So glad I found this video! I used to heat train my hair without realising it’s what I was doing and the styles would last so long and it grew! I was uneducated and ultimately damaged it by not looking after it well but after a bc & many years of growing it with back to back protective styles, I want to wear my hair out and enjoy the fruits of me labour. But yo I’ve really struggled to wear it naturally, it breaks a LOTS MORE when it’s curly because of single strand knots, it looses moisture so quickly, i never know what I’ll wake up looking like so it causes me anxiety because a style failing can really derail a day at work - it’s a lot! I’m gonna start heat training again but with all the knowledge I’ve picked up over the years :) thank you
I use to get the single knots a lot. I don’t get them that much anymore. Turned out I was combing wrong for my hair. I comb from the end to the root because that is what they tell you to do but it gave me those knots. So know I untangle my hair from the ends and comb or brush from root.
Just subscribed! 🙌🏾 I’ve literally been contemplating relaxing my hair but I definitely think heat training might be more ideal for me. Looking forward to more of your videos! I will ve tuned in for sure. Thank you!
Hi sweaty. My natural curls is loose bubbly curls and soft. My hair was 16 inches. I had to cut my scalp short because when I applied a relaxer my hair began to fall out and brittle on the ends. So I did a big chop and my hair is full with bubbly soft curls. I love my hair!! 😊
This just made me realize that my low porosity hair may have been the reason why relaxers took so long to “take” when I used to relax it… my hair was so “stubborn”… someone told me I needed a relaxer THE DAY AFTER I got one. 😩… It made me feel so bad about my hair. Anyway, I’ve been natural for 10 years now, & I still have low porosity hair. 🤷🏽♀️
Same! My mom would leave it on till it freaking _burned_ to try to combat the reversion. This eventually led to me getting a pretty bad burn on my scalp that convinced me to never relax again, since my hair obviously doesn't want (nor need) it.
I had 2 relaxers back to back in 2 days. 1 at home by my mom and one by my hairdresser. My hair still was kinky wavy so I had to get pressed and hot combed. 2 weeks later my hair reverted and no hair fell out. My hair built like a damn marine.
I have been detangling my hair all day! IM TIRED!!! I said that I will tex lax but will give heat training a try. Had a poor experience of heat damage from the blow drying process on my hair so have been doing seasonal silk presses ever since! Chiiiiilllllle ima have to try something! Because I wear braids alllll the time back to back. So when I once in a blue moon try to wear my hair out it literally reverts back almost immediately! I be about to cry 😂😂. It’s so crazy and so thick. I told myself I’m going to start getting my hair done and straightened/trim after I take my braids out. And I think my hair would be more healthier that way. It’s just gonna be SUPER hard to get past the stage where it’s not trained.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but my favorite heat protectants are silicone/oil-based because they're *_very_* silkening/lightweight(not sticky), and don't revert your hair like water-based heat protectants. Silk Elements Olive Heat Spray, & Ion Heat Protectant Spray are my faves & they're both at Sally's.😇
So glad I found you at the right time! I want to be able to silk press but keep my curl pattern. Now I just need to figure out my hair porosity. How do I figure that out?
When your hair is in its straight state, hwo do you maintain it? Do you wrap it every night or twist it up? Thank you, love your channel & am newly subscribed.
I seemed to never get it right I changed from wash and goes to blow outs.I do a blow out once every 4 weeks and go right into a style that does require manipulation I usually do 4-5 cornrows after I take out the braids I do a dusting or trim. I do this once a month and I've gotten wonderful length retention. Great video
This is a very helpful. I’ve been consciously growing my hair out for almost two years now & have gained 6 inches of growth (outside of trims). My hair has grown so much more than I expected and it’s becoming very difficult to manage myself. I’ve decided to start heat training so it can become easier to manage. I’m thinking of blow drying my hair every two weeks after my wash day since I always do my hair mask during that time. Which olaplex product do you suggest? Thank you gorgeous!
I blow dry my hair every week (wash day) to keep my hair stretched and then flat iron it every 3-4 months.…I do genetically have high porosity hair so I have to make sure I keep up with protein and everything
Thanks so much for all of your helpful info! Do you have any thoughts on amino acid or smoothing treatments? I work out a lot and would like some help keep it straight
Wow! That’s a lot of heat! I use the Revlon blow dryer brush, with heat protectant, which gets to be a maximum of 175 degrees F and that seems very hot to me. I have a combination of type 3a hair with some 3b and 2c. Think that 400+ setting would destroy my hair! Sometimes I flat iron the edges where the hair is 3b but they also can get straight by using a small blow dry brush.
The hair care guide has exceeded its allocated quota. Any chance you can increase the quota please? I just found you and can't wait to start my heat training journey.
Listening to this...whew....'all' of it sound like far too much work, time headache & money. Ok, maybe I'm just lucky but wearing my natural hair, using 100% natural products, no weaves & braids ... zero split ends. Plus, l work out at the gym, love to detox (sweat). Not letting a hairstyle interfere with that. To each his/her own. Thank you for making this very informative video. 🫂.
I have 4b 4c hair and also tried the more natural approach, would deep condition once a month, try to stretch my braids etc. My hair is happiest blow dried 😭 i straighten my hair when i want ( not more than twice a month) and blow dry every wash. I wash and deep condition once a week or every two weeks💕
Try hair mask avocado honey egg and tell me how your hair feels after. The more I have learned about my hair the more I am excited taking of them. And now I hate flat Iron. I love my texture.
I'm considering straightening my hair more often, but can I reach tailbone length as a straight natural? I don't see many straight naturals on YT with long long hair. Maybe like 3 🥴
2 things that my hairstylist said that stuck with me is; 1. Natural hair doesn’t equal healthy hair! 2. ALL her natural clients heat train and have hair down to their waist She specialize in natural hair and said naturals can’t tell the health of their hair bc they’re scared to straighten their hair due to heat damage. keeping it curly gives an illusion of health but you won’t know for sure unless you straighten it to see. I thought my hair was so healthy when i first went to her. My hair was bra strap length upon pressing for the first time in 2 years it was so damaged from lack of trims it was uneven density throughout my hair 🥺. If she were to take off all the damaged hair i would have been back to big chop length 😭. She took off an inch and we agreed to gradually cut the rest. She gave me homework told me what i needed to do at home and what products to use. 8 months later my 4a hair has never been so healthy & thick and i have about 3 inches left to cut off the ends but overall my hair is very thick throughout and it’s longer than when i first went to her . My hair has never been this long and healthy at once. I’m on my way to waist length a goal i had since i first went natural 11 years ago never seemed to achieve. She said its safe to blow dry my hair weekly as long as i use heat protectant and focus on moisture with heat during my deep treatments (bc i had protein overload) She also has natural hair that is heat trained and her hair is waist length and soooooo gorgeous and healthy🫠🤧. I only wish i had met her when i first became natural 11 years ago
Wow thank you for sharing your story ❤️… Most of us hairstylist say the same things because we constantly see patterns of what works and what doesn’t work.
@@shelltalkshairthank you shell. Would you please make a video about effective protective styles i read in one of your comments to not do ponytails i started them but noticed my ends were extremely dry so i stopped
Thank you. Just cut my fine 4A hair after years of wearing a low bun because I was lazy lol. The bun was severely damaging. Cut it into a neck length blunt bob. Heat doesn't go above 330. Always a heat protectant. Wrap my hair at night or when I'm not going anywhere I keep it wrapped all day. Only touch up when needed on low heat. Thank you for your knowledge it is needed 🌺❤️💐
What about brazilian keratin treatments? Would that fall under chemical straightening? I Get one done once a year to loosen my curl Pattern and cut down (air) drying time. I do wash & gos, just like when my hair does not have the keratin treatment. Once it’s summer and i heat the salty beach water, the hair goes back to curly, unlike relaxed hair.
Great video!! My blow dry is always a huge disappointment.. after a clarify wash and deep condition my hair is super soft until I blow dry, then it’s a stiff dry hot mess.. does anyone know why this happens? I want to blow dry like the pros at home aha
Might be the products used. I noticed my hair was stiff after blow drying when I used a traditional leave in that I’d use on my coils. I’ve switched to a serum like Chi Silk infusion and it’s much softer after blow drying.
This was sooo helpful, been natural for about 10 years now and I love my growth but I’m tired of never being able to maintain a solo press. Do you recommend anything for the girls that work out?
AMAZING video! It was very informative. I am relaxed and colored. I stretch relaxers 3 to 4 months. Hair is at bottom of bra strap. Can I transition by heat training my hair and trimming off monthly growth to retain length? My hair is wavy at roots. Easy to do with good slip conditioner then I hood or air dry and 2 pass flat iron. Help me out sis lol
I am just starting my heat training journey & i just straightened my hair for the first time in 6 months. I trimmed about an inch off after straightening. It gets sleek at first but before i’m even finished with my head it’s starting to puff up. It’s really hard to get the ends all the way straight as well. Do you know why this is? Will repeated straightening over time stop this from happening?
Hey, so it could be a moisture problem. If your hair is deprived of moisture it will start to revert because it’s trying to capture moisture from the air. Or you need a bigger and better trim from a stylist who can let you know how much you need to cut off
@@shelltalkshair Ok i will probably have someone professionally trim it next time. If it is a moisture issue (my hair is high porosity) would i need to do moisture deep conditioning treatments? Or any specific product you reccomend? Thank you for taking the time to reply💓
@@laurenwilliams3674 Moisture retention will come from your routine. So deep conditioning 1 - 2x per month and not wearing styles that prevents the hair from receiving moisture consistently. And I like design essentials deep conditioners.
So if I want to straight my hair every one to two months a year besides summer when or how often should I take 3 months break what hairstyle should I do can you please help me like how exactly is your routine in a year mostly

They say put it in a bun and then wrap it in a scarf and then workout, shower, but do not remove the scarf at all until your hair is completely dry...so 20-30mins post workout/shower.

I need help! I find my edges and the front to top portion of my hair gets poofy after Day 4. My hair isn't heat trained yet, mind you. Are touch ups with a flat iron ok and if not how can I combat this problem as I like to wear ponytails mostly and the bushy look, of course doesn't work; but I don't want to damage my hair until my next weekly wash day. Great video
I don’t apply heat on my hair. Got tone s of retention
Thank you so very much. This is very helpful ❤
Thank you! Do you have a tutorial of your curls in the intro?
Hi. Can you explain further what you mean by "quality" ceramic flat irons? Or what makes a flat iron "quality"?
Can u do a video on the best flat irons ?
Thanks so much for all of your helpful info! Do you have any thoughts on amino acid or smoothing treatments? I work out a lot and would like some help keep it straight
Wow! That’s a lot of heat! I use the Revlon blow dryer brush, with heat protectant, which gets to be a maximum of 175 degrees F and that seems very hot to me.
I have a combination of type 3a hair with some 3b and 2c.
Think that 400+ setting would destroy my hair! Sometimes I flat iron the edges where the hair is 3b but they also can get straight by using a small blow dry brush.
Is heat training possible if you workout a lot?
I have not found any answers for this. I workout 6 days a week.
The hair care guide has exceeded its allocated quota. Any chance you can increase the quota please? I just found you and can't wait to start my heat training journey.
What do you think about the RevAir for blow drying?
I don’t straighten my hair often but I’ve still noticed thinned out heat damaged hair. Due to This my hair knots very easily
How long does it take to actually get your hair “trained”
Love the content
I'm considering straightening my hair more often, but can I reach tailbone length as a straight natural? I don't see many straight naturals on YT with long long hair. Maybe like 3 🥴
2 things that my hairstylist said that stuck with me is;
1. Natural hair doesn’t equal healthy hair!
2. ALL her natural clients heat train and have hair down to their waist
She specialize in natural hair and said naturals can’t tell the health of their hair bc they’re scared to straighten their hair due to heat damage. keeping it curly gives an illusion of health but you won’t know for sure unless you straighten it to see.
She said its safe to blow dry my hair weekly as long as i use heat protectant and focus on moisture with heat during my deep treatments (bc i had protein overload)
She also has natural hair that is heat trained and her hair is waist length and soooooo gorgeous and healthy🫠🤧.
Wow! I wish I could go to your hairstylist. She seems amazing and to really have your hair on track.
Where is your hair stylist located? I need someone that knowledgeable
Can you share the IG or the info of your stylist. She may be in my new area!
Thank you for your knowledge it is needed 🌺❤️💐
hey. could you please reupload your haircare guide?
Hello! I just found your page! Just what I was looking for… are you able to email the guide it say it’s unavailable?
Could you drop a new jot.form link for the download. The initial one has reached its quota of allowing people in. 🙌🏻
Great tips! ❤I’ll be looking into that because I’m so scared of heat damage because it happened to me already
You must have went to the Dominican's. Don't ever them go to them, they low key use relaxer and hate us anyway.
What about brazilian keratin treatments? Would that fall under chemical straightening? I Get one done once a year to loosen my curl
Pattern and cut down (air) drying time.
You probably need a blow-out cream. Try Kenra, Mizani, or Nexxus. Even Keracare makes a creme press for blow-outs & straightening.☺
Thanks for everything gorgeous ❤
Any ceramic blow dryer suggestions?
Dropping some KNOWLEDGE okay 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🔥👌🏾💙
So if I want to straight my hair every one to two months a year besides summer when or how often should I take 3 months break what hairstyle should I do can you please help me like how exactly is your routine in a year mostly
Hi sis, can u recommend some budget friendly products that are not olaplex please
just wondering how early in the hair journey does one experiment with heat training?
Do you have any recommendations for a ceramic flat iron?
I would use a titanium flat iron it’s better for the hair and reaches higher temps with even distribution.
@@jae941 ceramic is the one with even distribution, less damage but may require more passes depending on hair type. Titanium requires fewer passes on coarser hair, but beware of damage at temps over 400°F
Hi I was looking to download your guide, but the form errors out.
I have 4c and the length retention has been awful since natural. I noticed my niece had the sane Keibler but when she started to get pressed her hair grew. I also noticed her hair thinning. I'm thinking about a protein straightner but am in pause. What do you think about these so called natural straightners?
Hey girl! I tried downloading the hair care guide but when I press on it in my email it's not working. Can you please help??
How do you heat train your hair if you sweat in your scalp? I work out 3/4 a week and my hair just reverts back to being curly soon as I'm done.
They say put it in a bun and then wrap it in a scarf and then workout, shower, but do not remove the scarf at all until your hair is completely dry...so 20-30mins post workout/shower.
So do we use heat protectant or no?
I went to the link to download your hair care guide and I put in my email address but I didn’t get the download. The only thing I got was email saying hair care guide with my email address to click on to email myself and at the bottom of the email it said to create your own jot form. I’m confused can you please help me get the hair care guide?
Update: It took about 30mins but it finally came up and I saved it to my phone.
What ceramic flat irons do you recommend?
fhi
What should I use for deep condition? theres so many products out there, i dont know the right one. Do I just chose and stick to any deep conditioning product?
How did do the style you wear. Do you hVe video?
I need help! I find my edges and the front to top portion of my hair gets poofy after Day 4. My hair isn't heat trained yet, mind you. Are touch ups with a flat iron ok and if not how can I combat this problem as I like to wear ponytails mostly and the bushy look, of course doesn't work; but I don't want to damage my hair until my next weekly wash day. I can't find a video that helps with this. issue.
Can you still use gel when heat training your hair?
These are the answers I always want. Like which products can be in your hair as you blowdry/flat iron.
Does this mean I can get my natural hair back after stretching it with heat
Which olaplex products should i at home?
Hi I can’t access the form!
How do you stop it reverting? My hair reverts the same day
It could be your wash routine or your hair is deprived of moisture
i keep the blow dryer a good distance from my hair
Can’t download the heathy hair guide anymore.
Can you really put heat on your hair twice a month????? I’ve been getting my hair done as a male every 2-4 months because I’m scared of heat damage😭💀
SSSSOOOO I shouldn't use the comb attachment on my blow dryer👀😳
That’s what I want to know
Hey, could you do a video about products other than the olaplex that are good for the hair?
I've just started heat training last week using olaplex treatments, thanks to you :)
Very early days but I'm excited to see how it turns out x
Yes I can ❤️
Why shouldn't we deep condition more than 1-2 times a month?
You can over moisturize the hair and cause Hygral fatigue.
DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOUR HAIR. Some ppl deep condition every week and there hair flourishes. Don't listen to these youtubers who only tell you what's good for them. It's all about trial and error with YOUR OWN hair.
@@Shalayah2010 shes not a "youtuber"... She's a licenced cosmetologist. If there is anyone on this platform to take advice from, she's def qualified to inform others
@@Shalayah2010 She said in the video she's a licensed cosmetologist with a regular clientele obviously she knows what she's talking about.
@@athickie typical cosmetologist don't practice natural BLACK hair.
❤❤❤❤
I want to heat train my hair but I need a cosmetologist who is located in South Carolina whose willing to heat train my hair and keep my on the right path. Anyone know anyone?
Can you heat train with just blow drying like with revair?
Not really. But using the rev air seems to be less damaging
Just found your channel. you are so beautiful .
What style do you have in this video?
A blow out with wand curls
May not work if you have lower density and/or fine hair... welp :/
All this video talked about was damage and split ends. Where's the part that actually talks about how to heat train natural hair?
You said the words "press" your hair, but the captions read "suppress". Even though this was an accident, this could still happen as an African woman living in an country of suppression. Often having to wear wigs and use straightening combs in order to fit in with the norm. ua-cam.com/video/U48565qmqUk/v-deo.html
You know but then you're like oh you know my hair like the curls don't look good my hair freezes out all the time you know and stuff like that it's because you're doing this this is just a manageable level of damage this is just one of the levels of damage before it gets to the undesirable level of damage so this is just a desirable level of damage but you're still damaging your hair I would definitely recommend if you're like a perm hair person and you know for a fact you like perms and that's it and it's going to be like your lifelong thing that you're never going to not want you know then heat train you know maybe you don't have the money or maybe you just don't want to always use the chemicals like you know maybe you're like a boho person you know like a hippie person but you don't want to use all the chemicals and things like that to get your hair straight so you can do this you can heat train you can use heat on your hair on a regular basis and it can be straight longer and with greater ease that'll be my top recommendation over getting a chemical perm but if natural hair is your thing and you know that natural hair and everything that comes with it curls shrinkage all that stuff if you know that that's your thing and you know that that's basically something that you're always going to come back to or something that you're always going to want you never want to eat because little by little those girls are going to go away that's what he training is that's what it does and that's not repairable it's not fixable you know maybe a protein treatment to your curls or can't snap back a little bit more than before but ultimately it's over
I recently had my hair silk pressed it didn’t last not even a full 24 hours. My hair reverted so quickly cause of my own sweat
That’s because you hair is healthy and strong.
the guide is no longer available 😭thank you so much for the video 🤍
The guide isn't working 🫠
Can you heat train if you experience color damage? Also have fine hair?
