For anyone considering this mod, be aware that there is an appropriate cable feed-through between the body and the door. About 2-3 inches above the factory cable is a rubber grommet on the body. This is easy to remove with the fingers. Just punch a small hole through the middle and put it back. You can pass a cable through while maintaining a seal. Using a long fishing tool, you can find a path through the body into the cabin under the fuse box or steering wheel. This is the same hole the factory cable uses to pass through the inner layer of the body.
Erwin Maes: I have them on all my luxury vehicles and I thought it would be nice on my Smart. Plus where I parked at work is very dark and if you drop something your out of luck until daylight. I love them!
