The first date I had with my wife was at a Tim Hortons. After that first meetup, we then went on a couple of dinner dates and such. That first one though for us was just meeting over coffee to get to know each other better. We had matched on Facebook dating and had been talking for at least a couple of weeks before actually meeting in person. It is of my opinion that the first date shouldn't be overly extravagant.
This thing about "go on these dates and not that", "look for these things - they are red flags" is internet bs. When you actually talk to happily married people in real life, most of them didn't have "perfect" dating scenario according to internet. Perfect scenarios are invented by people who've been unlucky in love for so long they want to find a shortcut. There's no shortcut. It's your own character, knowing what people you vibe with, getting yourself to know new people and luck. And no one really knows which one of these you're lacking if you cannot find the one. Sometimes relationships that started with "oh, it's for couple dates only" end up being the love of your life. And other times "perfect" first dates leave with major heartbreaks.
I had this guy, tell me he no longer wanted to chat with me because he found a match with a girl and wanted to see where it goes, I was absolutely appreciative of the fact that he let me know and didnt just ghost me. I had literally come to the conclusion I would forever be by myself in my 40s, so I started making myself happy, doing things to not only make me happy, but to show respect to myself, without disrespecting others … and a couple of years later, my partner was so intrigued by me, tricked me into a date even though I had expressly told him I did not date coworkers. I couldn’t NOT give dating him a try after he so adorably blushed when I confronted him with the question “is this a date????” 🤣🤣 it’s been 8 years, and still going strong (56 now). He still opens doors for me, asks me for my opinion (and even follows it more than half the time now lol), and buys me a half cake from H‑E‑B for my “half birthday” (inside joke). A first date should never be a dinner date or a movie date. You will never see the real other person. Best first date I ever had was when she figured out I was driving to the boardwalk. Then like a kid in a candy store asked if we could play mini golf. The date ended up lasting about 10 hours. Mini golf, a couple beers, some pizza, and a few miles of strolling lets you learn a lot about someone. When I woke up later that day, I had a text asking if I could meet her on Sunday. I said yes, and Sunday she took me kite flying.

He doesn’t have to pay if she refuses the offer, obviously, but it is polite and making the offer in the first place shows genuine interest and a willingness to invest in the relationship beyond just time. That said, if she picked the place for them to meet it would also then be polite for HER to offer the pickup or taxi but it would be less expected since she’s already taking a risk by meeting him in the first place. Being treated as equals has a lot of nuances as it turns out.

Oh Lord, I am so happy my hubs and I found each other way before dating apps and smart phones. We still have the first emails we wrote to each other and just recently read them together and laughed about, how cringey and awkward they (we) were back then. But before the emails, we were actually talking to each other face to face and that's how we fell in love. And that was truly romantic. Will be 15 years soon, and we are still really happy. I ended up meeting some Tots when in Florida visiting friends who insisted I come down BC they were scared I would get back with the narcissist, abusive, a Grand Slam abuser covering it all-emotional, sexual, verbal and eventually, physical...I had forgotten how desirable I was-bl/blue/smart and sweet-Animal Law and other underdog law, and you guys helped so much)

A first date should never be a dinner date or a movie date. You will never see the real other person. Best first date I ever had was when she figured out I was driving to the boardwalk. Then like a kid in a candy store asked if we could play mini golf. The date ended up lasting about 10 hours. Mini golf, a couple beers, some pizza, and a few miles of strolling lets you learn a lot about someone. When I woke up later that day, I had a text asking if I could meet her on Sunday. I said yes, and Sunday she took me kite flying.
I have a feeling that first girl does that to every guy she can bait in. Gives them a pity story, they offer to get teeth done, she gives complicated directions knowing it’s gonna cause confusion, gets mad at them for whatever reason, and then demands they pay her bs fee after she manages to scare them away. @arh1234 Respect. Women want respect. Him OFFERING pick her up or pay for a taxi is the polite and respectful thing to do. He doesn’t have to pay if she refuses the offer, obviously, but it is polite and making the offer in the first place shows genuine interest and a willingness to invest in the relationship beyond just time. That said, if she picked the place for them to meet it would also then be polite for HER to offer the pickup or taxi but it would be less expected since she’s already taking a risk by meeting him in the first place. Being treated as equals has a lot of nuances as it turns out.

Oh Lord, I am so happy my hubs and I found each other way before dating apps and smart phones. We still have the first emails we wrote to each other and just recently read them together and laughed about, how cringey and awkward they (we) were back then. But before the emails, we were actually talking to each other face to face and that's how we fell in love. And that was truly romantic. Will be 15 years soon, and we are still really happy. I wish, everyone could experience at least one really good, healhy and lasting relationship in their life. 🙏

I have learned that I will take 100% responsibility of my transportation for the first few dates, until I am comfortable. I went on a first date with a co-worker, and we carpooled. After dinner, instead of driving me back to my car, he took me to his place. He kept asking if I was lost. Small town USA, BUT I have lived here my WHOLE life AND can read signs. He was 34 with no ambition living with his parents. We walked through the door, and his parents ran upstairs. He offered to play on his Playstation. I'm not very good. I bet he wanted me to handle his joystick. I not sure how, but I got to the point of getting back to my car. That was the moment I will NEVER rely on someone who I didn't know.
