Hello and welcome on my channel. Today I´d like to show you how to repair broken laptop hinges.
This is a very common problem. Hinges are broken and plastic parts damaged.
Changing the bottom case cover, palmrest or LCD cover and bezel is very expensive.
After several years I've improved my way of repairing the hinges in an elegant and cheap way.
I have repaired more than one hundred laptops by this way.
Many people try to fix hinges only with hot melt glue gun or seal up broken parts and It won't work last long. Only Strong Epoxy Glue is useless.
We only need basic tools. Drill bits, screws, nuts and rivets.
Sometimes we have to use Strong Epoxy Glue or any other strong glue for fixing broken small pieces. We need the original position of the threads.
All important parts you can buy from me on ebay.
    Rivets:
    www.ebay.com/i...
    Nuts:

Laptop Hinges Bottom case and LCD cover Rivets Complete Repair SET:
    www.ebay.com/i...
    Epoxy glue:
    www.ebay.com/i...
Optional construction strong glue what I used:
    www.fermacell....
It took me over one year to create this video.
This repair procedure can also be applied to various models.
I chose several laptops of different brands.

Thank you very much for this video. Just fixed my HP-15 laptop hinge using this method. In case anyone has this problem on an HP and is not sure of the exact hardware required I can help out. I only had one hinge that was broken & it was detached from the screen not the chassis. I used (3) M4-0.7x12mm flat head screws & (3) M4 Nylon lock washers. The 12mm are the perfect length. It is probably a good idea to add a drop or two of oil to the hinge to reduce the friction while you are in there. Barrel lugs would look better but may not be available at your local hardware store. Clearance hole was made using a 5/32" drill bit, I believe, but start with 1/8" and work your way up sizes until the screw barely passes through. You want a tight fit. Also, on one of the hinges, there was a very thin metal sheet riveted on to the hinges that was obstructing access to the mounting holes so I just pried that off with a small screwdriver. Easy project.

Excellent solutions with permanent fixes. But, some of your customers probably cried when seeing the Frankenstein screw heads sticking out on their laptops! :) To prevent the cracks on the plastic case, I would use washers under most screw heads. I would drill the counterbore holes to offset the washer's thickness to make them look less visible. Thanks for the great video.

I like the rivets idea, I didn't know those exist. I had some luck using a lot of epoxy and counter sinking the bottom side into the laptop and then covering it to hide it. I lucked out on that one and it lined up with one of the rubber feet which hides the hole beautifully

I have a question, you showed the Toshiba fix but it is only on the bottom assembly. My repair is on the top assembly over on the right by the on button . Do you have a video repair for the top assembly? If so please provide the link.

What an excellent technique!!! I think I am going to use this technique, because for my laptop, just gluing may not be enough. The glue may not stay since I have already applied lub oil to the hinge to free it up. Thanks a lot for great closeup views. You are very smart and practical. Wish you all the best!!! You should sell small assortments of the nuts and bolts you use in these videos on eBay, maybe with the glue as an option. Like "enough parts to fix both hinges on most Acer/Gateway models", etc. With link to your video and instructions on resetting the nuts & what size drill bits to use. I've had three laptops now that worked perfectly well & were on current platforms except the hinges going made them completely unusable. Not everyone can afford to care more about how their laptop looks than how it works. Hoping I can get the self-employed repair guy I know to consider adding these kinds of chassis repairs to his services. Thanks for sharing!

  • @Harley-ir4er

There is a way to prevent the bracket breaking the laptop casing in the first place. When you feel the laptop lid getting tighter to open. Split the laptop to access the hinge bracket. 30 seconds into this video you will see a large Nut on the end of the Hinge bracket. Turns this nut anticlockwise one or two turns, this will release the tightness on the hinge and allow the hinge to move more freely. This nut is spring loaded and will not loosen. Prevention is better than cure.

IT tech here, most common ones are Lenovo and Acer, Lenovo even the main frame breaks most often.
There should be a recall made by consumers, take a few shots of the broken laptop and lodge it with your country's consumer/trade centre.

Thank you for your work, I plan on following your solution but I have one question in mind:
screwing the hinge to the metallic cover with the rivet isn't an electrical risk regarding the connection to the ground ? The original hinge is screwed into the plastic and the two metallic parts isolated from each other (maybe so it breaks and later you pay the repair, but ...)
