raw egg is a must as they say. The ingredients from the hot pot almost cook the egg as it is thinly coated and the richness brings it all together. When I lived in SF there was a restaurant I frequented that had a sukiyaki / sashimi combo with white tuna. The hot and cold and flavor combo is the bomb. Still have fond memories of those lunches 40 years later.
My grandma was from japan and she taught us how to make this, but not this version. We dilute the soy sauce with water, maybe a 1:3 ratio and add sugar to taste. Some like it sweeter. We put our steak right in with the soy sauce and flavor the soy sauce that way. Add heavier veggies like potato and carrots, when those are cooked add softer ingredients like corn, mushroom and green beans. We eat this with rice and its super delicious, no need for egg either.
Hi guys! You guys chose sukiyaki so we made it for you! Many of you might have a difficult time finding shungiku so in place of that, I suggest watercress or Chinese cabbage. if you can't find shirataki, simply omit it from the recipe. Enjoy!
TabiEats shungiku is also called crown daisy or in Chinese tong ho. I've used mizuna and watercress as substitutes and additions. The yaki-dofu you can make on your own from firm tofu and pan frying it. I think it's Kansai style to finish the sukiyaki with udon noodles.
Oh yum :D
yeheyy
TabiEats what is shugiku in English?
Edible Chrysanthemum, I think.
My grandfather’s favorite dish! Thank you showing how it’s made. He always said it was never the same in the USA now I know why!
For those state side my suggestion for eggs are 1) find a local person to purchase from. Or 2)we now have pasteurized eggs. It is normal for them to look a little cloudy when you crack them it's related to the pasteurization process. Personally I go local!
Excellent presentation on preparing Sukiyaki. I have been wanting to prep it and didn't like most recipes on-line. I can see this is traditional. Thanks for the video. So simple and so good! Best food in the world!
You guys made this meal seem so much more approachable and doable! You're very good teachers and great cooks! Thanks! 😊
I eat raw eggs all the time - and I scare everybody with this! I was happy today to hear it is normal. Love!
Thank you guys so much, this has to be my favorite Japanese dish too, and its not that common in the restaurants around here - now I just need to find ingredients and I can make it myself!
I love sukiyaki!! Thank you for showing how to make the sauce from scratch.
Awesome job guys! Love Sukiyaki! And to all those who have not tried raw egg with it.....it just makes it taste that much better!
I love how Japanese cut the shiitake with the cross on them looks great!!!!!!! Oishiiiiii
It's really pretty isn't it?

Great video you guys!
Love sukiyaki and yes raw egg is absolutely essential. My grandpa used to grow giant negi and make sukiyaki for us. It was the best! When he passed away my grandma and mom were never able to fully replicate his recipe. This brings back fond memories ❤

I love Sukiyaki and Curry Noodles. Both that I ate while living in Japan as a child. I found one restaurant in Savannah Ga. that made Sukiyaki. It was delicious! I make Curry Noodles that takes me back to Japan.
Great Japanese recipes TABIEATS🙏🙏🙏

This video helped me in preparing sukiyaki hot pot and it was so delicious. Thank you so much.
i love sukiyaki. i had the best sukiyaki I've ever tasted in Hiroshima. I've never been able to get the same flavour in all the recipes I've tried.
GREAT VIDEO! just found you guys! will dig into your videos now!
OMG you guys made me wanna to rush to a Japanese restaurant to get my Sukiyaki fix ... Love you guys
I love sukiyaki! This looks absolutely wonderful. This is one of my favorite dishes, too. I remember the first time I had it, many years ago, visiting at a friend's house when I was about 8, I think. I was fascinated! It was the first time I had tofu, and I loved it. I've been hooked ever since! LOL. Thanks for the wonderful video! :-)
Oh that looks ono!! haven't had sukiyaki in ages! now I'm hungry! 😋
Making me hungryyyy... gonna have sukiyaki for lunch at work tomorrow!!
Looks so yummy!! 💕
I love sukiyaki! Only for the longest time I couldn't get thin beef! My local butcher couldn't cut it thin enough for me either, I had to go 3 hours away to a giant Japanese store in Chicago. Mitsuwa, it's so amazing!
But, my local Asian shop just started to sell super thin beef, I was so happy when I found it!! And it's really good cuts too! Can't wait to make it again! :)
I prefer rice with sukiyaki. Love it!!! One of my favorite! 💞🍶👌🏻
Yum Yum! love it!
OMG Yesterday we JUST had a Sukiyaki party in our Japanese claas at school XD It was so delicious
I‘ve just tried it. It taste like in japan. Thank you for sharing!
This is the 1st time learning the traditional way to eat sukiyaki. Didn't know there were a few steps.
Interesting!
Looks so good!
Thanks for the quick recipe! My dormmates did sukiyaki for my farewell party when I finished my year exchange in Japan. It's very nostalgic for me. :)
I love your videos and recipes!😍😛
this looks amazing - i will try tonight!
Looks yummy.. thanks
Thank you so much for making the vdo in english. I DO LOVE japanese culture, grew up with manga and anime and all the delicious japanese food. but I am not japanese. LOL, so this vdo help a lot. Thanks.
Just made this last night with some thinly sliced ribeye and additionally udon noodles.
That is the flavor I sought with regards to your sauce. I'll finish the rest for breakfast this morning.
Love you guys, good stuff....keep em' coming.
I rarely see sukiyaki on the menu in Japanese restaurants here in CA.
I've retired to the Sierra Mountains and it is imperative that you know how to make these things since there are no ethnic restaurants up here.
When I miss Japan, it is often a food memory that triggers the feeling. I love and miss Japanese cuisine.
Sharing a meal makes people like each other or as the feel closer with strong bond.
Eating the same food leads to trust and cooperation because they feel closer with the feeling of intimacy among those eating together, share the experience with eating and drinking.
oh man, i was looking for you guys cuz i saw a miso cod video the other day and couldn't remember who you were. so glad i found you.
I'm drooling!
I love Sukiyaki!
Ooh I love this video, so informative! (like most of your videos 😅) I never had sukiyaki but I want to try making it now. Glad I live in Europe so no problem with raw egg lol
Great video guys!!! and I must Sukiyaki is one of my favorite Japanese dishes!!!! :D
I love it. Raw egg dip I'm gonna try It.
If someone is watching EmmyMadeInJapan you know how crazy people get when you use raw eggs XD we here in Switzerland have a lot of raw egg in desserts like mousse, cake roll, tiramisu and so on, oh and mayonnaise too. They are pretty safe if you buy from a good farmer and fresh. I would loooove to taste Sukiyaki, also Oden thosere were my bucketlist foods, ohh I'm just a fan of brewed stuff in a big pot :D looked amazing, I think I will try it myself even I don't know how it shoul taste^^' Thank you so much for sharing
💜I love Sukiyaki yummm💜
Untill this day sukiyaki is the best dish I have ever tasted !!!
OMFH you guys that is super delicious. I just love any kind of Japanese hot pot, can't help it. Since I'm vegan, I had to substitute the beef with fried sweet potatoes and of course I left out the egg and Dashi, but it turned out pretty good... Thanks for the great recipe!
My favorite and now I can cook it by my own
OMG.. my mouth is watering guys.. Looks so good 😘😘😘 I wish was eating with you guys 😘😘
You're presentation is beautiful!!! I'm not a huge fan of eggs in general, so whenever my mom made Sukiyaki, it was always rice for me. I found it very interesting, in that cooking shirataki next to the beef, would make the beef tough. Thank you for sharing another awesome video!
I don't know the science behind it, but shirataki does that to beef. Interesting isn't it? :)
Thank you very much. Greetings from Turkey
🤩🤩 Sukiyaki so good
i lobe it

Hi Sinichi and Satoshi! I really missed seeing you both because of my schooling. This hot pot caught my eye because of it's heartiness. Looks extremely good!!! 🍲
Hey Lee! So good to see you again!
❤️❤️❤️sukiyaki with raw egg! Actually had this for dinner with my brother Jerome tonight in Ikebukuro.
- Karen
Lucky got sukiyaki shop in malaysia... Its been my fav food after sashimi
i sometimes eat on a japanese restaurant here in my place! i'll order it next time! i cannot make that by myself because i'm not really familiar with some of the ingredients. 😋😋😋
Whoop whoop!! Sukiyaki Mukbang!! 👍😜
There was a Japanese restaurant where I live that served sukiyaki with a quail egg. It was delicious, but it was served in a huge pot rather than individual pieces cooked, more like a stew than anything else. Also, quail eggs are small, so it probably was not nearly enough egg for the dish.
Eggs in the US are washed and pasteurized. They HAVE to be refrigerated, and have a much shorter "life span" than eggs that are left alone. I wish I could have some chickens, but there are a lot of coyotes where I live!
The music at the beginning is rocking, I like it!
great video.
Yayyy mukbang
yes right we have a Malaysia Restaurant they make it too in Germany but it looks total different
I learned to eat it with a raw egg, so I enjoy it in the USA and nothing bad happened! delicious ... Now please teach us how to use a 'donabe'. I cracked my 1st one and now have a beautiful (gifted) version. Help me keep it beautiful!
I love Satoshi !
I haven't had sukiyaki in ages. Maybe I'll try making it with tempeh. Your version looks great! Thanks for the recipe.
We don't eat this dish very often either because beef is so expensive here. This was a treat for us.
TabiEats I remember going shopping with Obachan. There were no grocery stores then, just separate shops for meat, dairy, vegetables, fruits, etc. The exchange rate then was 360 yen for $1.00. The price of meat was high. My mother explained that meat was used more as a flavoring in food.
Why am I watching this during lockdown. I can't even go anywhere to buy something like this.
I like so much😋
I was born and raised in the UK. Salmonella is a common risk when eating raw eggs. Even if it's safe to eat raw eggs in other countries like Japan, the salmonella is always at the back of my mind. We ALWAYS cook the eggs in some way before eating them. lol
I wish I could have tried that when we were there. Next time I guess!
Thank you , have always loved SUKIYAKI hot pot dish; many Japanese restos in the mall don't offer this ,so you say it's exoensive. Will make soon ! hugs
OMG, sukiyaki! I have never had it before, but I have been told it is absolutely delicious! It looks so yummy and very simple to make. I can't wait to try it! I don't live near an international market, so what can I use to substitute the shungiku and shirataki? Thank you so much for sharing! I've been making quite a few of your dishes for my family and I'm so happy that I can add this one as well.
+Trinity Li for Shingiku try watercress instead or the green leafy parts of Chinese cabbage. If no shirataki, you can simply omit it from the recipe.
Hi! Great video!Thank's for the upload! I can't find sake in korea only Mirin is available. What can I substitute for sake?
Yummy. Oishii so
greattttt arigato from La Union Philippines
Shabushabu is something I really wanna try
Hi, may I know the title of the background music? Thank you. Nice video.
i live in japan for 15 years and i love all japanese dish, i have no problem eating raw eggs, unfortunately there is no authentic sukiyaki anywhere in the US
Thanks I love sukiyaki. Hard to get out here in San Antonio. Yeah I leave the egg out😂
Im going to try this with udon noodles
double YUM!
I've only had it with raw egg and it's delicious
Hi TabiEats, thanks for sharing the video. I am a frequent visitor to Japan. in my past years i note that people in Kansai and tokyo prepare Sukiyaki differently. for example, in Kyoto, they used only sugar with the beef in the beginning and then some soy sauce. well in Tokyo, they would make the sauce mixture like you did (of course some restaurants have their own recipes for the sauce). The strange thing is that last week when i was in Tokyo, the restaurant in 八重洲 of Tokyo station used a miso sauce for Sukiyaki. can you please let me know that if miso sauce is common for sukiyaki too?
it looks so different from sukiyaki here in Malaysia!
sukiyaki is one of the most delicious paratis in Japan !!!!!
