    All that hesitation is everything they should have all paid attention to. A little anxiety is good, but that level is an indicator that a person is out of their element. Glad she wasn't physically hurt.

      @HellyeahRook 2 роки тому +14

      Yeah, her body was so tight and stiff, she could barely move. I've seen it a lot. I've even been her! When our bodies do that as a response to anxiety it's called "armoring".

      As soon as I saw her you can tell she's out of her league. I did the same thing. knew I shouldn't take it due to icing but listened to a friend who went before me. I went after him over a hill and saw him down and hanging on for dear life. Hit the ice and proceeded to cartwheel down and off a cliff half way down. Broke my skis, tore my jacket to shreds and beat the hell out of me getting wedged into an ice boulder field. Never skied anything tough again.

      @@cameronbooker445 Do you honestly think Scott Long meant to leave the skis on and point them downhill? No, you side step or side slip. At least that way you can control your descent. If you fall you have a good chance of being able to use the edges of your skis to get stopped. If you don’t have skis there is little chance to dig boots in and get stopped. Without skis on you are sure to become an out of control missile as she did. If there are trees, and hit one, you are screwed. So, no, never take your skis off to get down a hill...

    The quality of the snow is very good as well the weather conditions...
    So why not trying it that day?
    The fact that she was scared is ok, fear is always respectful, and her choice walking - sliding down finally seemed to be much safer than skiing down and just crashing somewhere...
    The only point is that the guy should stay last for safety reasons. If she had an accident at the top, it would have been much easier for him to approach her!

      My friend's mom fell down the entire run and ended up with a terrible concussion. You can definitely hurt yourself pretty bad on it if you go up when the snow is lackluster, but other than that this run is a breeze. Confused as to why she went down the run without her skis on. Doesn't seem like a great idea on any run, let alone the steepest one on blackcomb.

    If you cant do a solid jump turn on 135cm skis, stay well away from couliors.
    That said, I use to jump turn 216s and get stuck sideways between rocks 🤣.

    • @damienkeijzer2954
      @damienkeijzer2954 2 роки тому

      Wow, when and why did you have 216s. Longest I skied was 190, and that was for giant slalom/super g.

    • @johngillies6345
      @johngillies6345 2 роки тому

      Was in the days of 'longer is better' Glen Plake was using 208s in the bumps so i thought 'bugger it ill get 216s n power down big alpine lines.
      Trees and tight spots were far from ideal but at 40 degrees plus gradient you can near jump turn anything.

    I wouldn’t mind trying this run someday…..I have been skiing for 40 years and have always tried to challenge myself a little more each time I ski. I would need to work my way up to this slope for sure and definitely NOT do it on the first or last run of the day. Glad to see she made it down ok, people have suffered far worse. Paying $$$ for a day with an experienced instrctor is money well spent IMO, especially when trying tackle a run like this.

      I've been there, its a lot tougher now cuz Whistler peak is on a glacier and the ice has melted a lot so its rocky and steeper. Still possible 100% but a lot more sketch

      @@johns3106..... but if she got hurt now about 3 ski patrol have to save her and that puts them in danger because of her stupidity! I agree with testing your limits but she was in way over her head, clueless!

    • @johns3106
      @johns3106 4 роки тому +4

      @bjbhehir Yep...if I was standing there waiting on her, I would probably be pissed at the delay, and muttering under my breath that she shouldn't be there...but hey, we're entering a slippery slope when we start saying who should and shouldn't be in spots like this, because when you really get down to it: should any of us be jumping into a steep couloir?! Wouldn't it be safer for everyone if we just stayed on the couch?! As far as patrol being in potential danger on a rescue...THAT'S THEIR JOB! If they don't like it, they can always find something else to do. As someone who works a dangerous job (when I'm not skiing) I have very little tolerance for people working potentially hazardous jobs whining about the fact that they may have to put themselves in danger. If the danger aspect of your job really bothers you, you need to find another career!

    While I admire that guy's noble attempt to stop her from sliding, it was better that he missed. At the speed she was going down head first, if she had hit him in the legs, not only could she have severely injured his legs, knees or ankles, she could have gotten injured as well. Head, neck and shoulder injuries were a very real possibility is she hit him. At the rate she was sliding down that slope, she was just a 120lbs cannon ball.
    Now instead of just one person sliding down the mountain, you have two and both with possible serious injuries. She wasn't sliding towards rocks or a cliff and had a better chance of survival the further down she went since the incline was less severe below them.
