One of the greatest experiences of my life was getting a tour of the lab and parts of Edwards from Red Jensen. Al Bowers took the time to sit down and talk with me about his bell shaped lift distribution research. I can't thank Red and Al enough for their time. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience!
To see where the Prandtl research of Al Bowers led, follow the B-21 Raider; the first large scale production flying wing without drag rudders at the wingtips. NASA's patent on the bell curve lift distribution profile was issued just as development of the B-21 began, in 2016.
Starting at about 01:06 in this video: R. Dale Reed {along with Darlene Lister} wrote a book called *Wingless Flight - The Lifting Body Story,* which covers the development & testing of lifting body aircraft in the USA in the 1960s and 1970s.
Makes sense to me. Eflite has RC planes with a selectable "fail safe" mode.. When in "safe select" releasing all control sticks to neutral causes the plane to self level and fly straight and level until the pilot moves a stick. AND all new cars use radar and cameras that will not allow it the run into anything. If you don't brake IT WILL..
ArduPilot is opensource software which allows people to make fly by wire model aircraft with return to launch features. Autopilots for model airplanes used to be a dream, now it's a reality. A lot of the stuff shown in this video can be done by individuals with a relatively modest budget.
I like that you give this history lesson but get the facts straight when you narrate. And don't say that It's called the Neil Armstrong flight research center since 1946 because the following is the true case. . The facility took its current name on 1 March 2014, honoring Neil Armstrong, a former test pilot at the center, and the first human being to walk on the Moon.[9][10]
These guys are planning to bring down an aircraft or more than one . The airspace over New York and NJ is crowded. Can you imagine the effect of a car sized drone hitting an aeroplane ...??
Whats the budget? Some mind numbing, nausea inducing, unbelievable number! Could someone LIKE Elon Musk do it way better for a millionth less? What a boondoggle!
Dream job, really
"Using off-the-shelf components for cost reduction-"
runs a hydrazine powered r/c flight test vehicle to 20,000 feet

Makes sense to use this technology for development of technology
That turbo cub is massive it looks 1/2 scale
If they don't have tiny whoop races in that workshop I'm disappointed.
Look at those rc radios, maybe Kraft.
What a dream job. I would be in hog heaven…lol
I design build and fly rc airplanes in all my free time. If this was my job I’d be overjoyed.
Al Bowers! Prandtl! Wow!
Isaacman needs to give them a bigger budget
I have high hopes. But I've been let down enough to not trust any of them.
@ yes hard to get everyone what they want
Are they looking for volunteers
interesting visual timeline...
3:49 - Someone teach this man about Reynolds numbers
They know……

waste of money
No it's saving money by doing small scale tests.

How do I get a job at that facility 🫣😅 Would love to make my hobby my job! Would really be a dream for me!
