I've installed this into my Asus ROG strix z370i (mini itx for those of you new to the game). What a pain to install! You have to line the screws up screw them in so they just come through the board, apply the paste, hold the fan from one side then screw the screws in whilst holding it together! I had to do this whilst the power and reset buttons were in too cause they're a pain to put in(why they're not just one cable or adapter these days I'm not sure, what a rediculous old standard). This was much more difficult to install than the corsair aio H75 that I used to have in there (in push pull) but boy does it look good and I have more space in the case (corsair Carbide air 240). I left it 20 mins and have now powered it on. I have 2 less fans in the case now and it's quieter. I'll do temp checks in 20 mins! When noctua says not recommended...what if you use an oc cpu but you don't routinely at hi oc speeds or..which low profile coolers are best for oc cpu?
Depends on what you want from that CPU cooler and what CPU you are using. There are too many variables to just say that one particular CPU cooler is the best.

Get a bigger cooler if your airflow is not that great. This CPU cooler is made for low TDP CPUs and a case that has good airflow. I mean, it will work with your 10400f but it won't be a low temperature.
I have the same chip and am looking for a cooler, was looking at this or Noctua NH-U12a - since you've had this cooler has it made a big different for would you go for something more? Thanks :)
@@jarrodcrawley6595 I would recommend you to get the NH-U12a or the NH-D15 (depending on the space you have inside your case). Both coolers are close in price and performance.
You can, because both coolers use the same fan, the NF-A9x14. The only difference is that the L9x65 uses the NF-A9x14 PWM, while the NH-L9i chromax.black uses the NF-A9x14 HS-PWM chromax.black.
Great video! but most reviews throw an over powered CPU inside these small coolers, information on how it performs on ones it claims to be able to handle would be more useful!
Unfortunately, using different CPUs for different type of CPU coolers is both expensive and time consuming. Perhaps in the future I will expand my testing with different CPUs.

That would be pointless for two reasons: 1. the 9900K is made to be overclocked that's why you are paying more for it. 2. no CPU overclocks or undervolts the same, and if I do such things, then I get comments saying "hurr durr, your CPU is cherry picked, you try to make the cooler look better, shill!". So you see my problem? :)
Should work, but no overclocking and you must have a really good airflow inside your system. I'd go for something with more cooling surface, like the NH-C14S.
Hey, I am running i7 7700k. Just changed my case to the Fractal Design Node 202 and needed a low profile cooler. I have installed the NH-L9i and at 50% load am getting close to 95 C any suggestions? I know my processor runs hot but is there any way to improve that and does the low noise adaptor being on making a difference. Idling around 50 C
Yes, that low noise adapter reduces the speed of the fan. In your case, you should not use it at all, also expect the fan to run at close to its maximum speed to manage the temperatures.

Does it fit for AM4? Specifically for a Mini ITX board.
Yes it does, but you need the NM-AM4-L9aL9i mounting kit for AM4.
Hi, do you think this will be enough for 10700K?(not much overclocked)
You need a bigger cooler for that CPU.
@@TechLegend-com what about 10600k?
@@kenviolet4610 It might work, but I wouldn't recommend it, especially for unlocked CPUs.

Здравствуйте, с 5 в кулер запустится?
is it okay for the i7 9700? i have only 70 mm of space in my case, and I cant find any other good options. it is not the k version
It should be ok, but make sure you have a good airflow inside your case.
Is there a similar cooler for an i5 10600k? Because my CM EVO 212 dont let me use one of the dram slots. (Im using corsair vengeance rgb)
This kinda looks cool, Im not thinking about oc the 10600k tho
Nice review btw
Depends on what motherboard are you using. You could try the NH-U12S or the NH-U12A.
@@TechLegend-com The NH-U12S its what i been looking for, ty!!
Is it good for 65W TDP CPU? (Ryzen 5 4600G of course the NH-L9a version)

I can't get a Wraith Prism to review.
@@TechLegend-com oh, sad, thanks for the reply though!
@@vanguardas9927 It is difficult to get some coolers for a review, even if I want to buy one.
An even better test would be to see how it performs with an undervolted 9900k
That would be pointless for two reasons: 1. the 9900K is made to be overclocked that's why you are paying more for it. 2. no CPU overclocks or undervolts the same, and if I do such things, then I get comments saying "hurr durr, your CPU is cherry picked, you try to make the cooler look better, shill!". So you see my problem? :)
Can this keep a 3200G and 3400G cool under gaming?
It will but you must have a good airflow inside your case otherwise it will not work.
is the noctua l9 a good cooler for ryzen 5600x?
it is 65W TDP
Should work, but no overclocking and you must have a really good airflow inside your system. I'd go for something with more cooling surface, like the NH-C14S.
Nice. Could it handle cooling Ryzen 5 5600X?
Yes but no overclocking.
@@TechLegend-com thank you for reply!
Should this do the trick for my Ryzen 5 3500x?

Do you think this would work for the Ryzen 5 3600?
No, you need a bigger cooler for that CPU, the NH-L9i is only good for tight spaces and configurations.
@@TechLegend-com Thanks for the response man! I think I am gonna get a liquid aio cooler because I would like to sit around 65C with full load. Am also planning to switch cases now to the H210i so i can utilze a 240mm rad. Mainly because in the near future I would like to upgrade to a 3070.
@@saadmasood4797 That changes things, this cooler is just too small for high TDP CPUs. That's why you're getting high temperatures.

@@TechLegend-com ok, thanks
@@plastic6568 You're welcome!
I use this on a 9700k does a good job.
That's great to hear! What temp. are you getting?
Tech Legend I’m getting about 70c-72c under load. I have not over clocked the 9700k and I am using Arctic MX-4 Thermal paste and not the included paste. I have a smaller case which was my reasoning for going with this versus the larger cooler and I was worried the larger one may not fit. After measurements I should have room for a larger version but I will not purchase one unless I feel the need to overclock. The cooler is holding pretty consistent temps for me while playing games such as Call of duty or World of Warcraft.
@@BL4CKSTEEL Those are good temperatures. You can use the Noctua thermal compound, it is as good as the MX-4.

Not really, you need a better cooler for that CPU, especially since you want the best performance from that 3900X.
Yeah I though so, I saw a video from someone here in UA-cam who use to 3950x but I don’t know how hot it is
@@sguadron94 Basically, there is not enough surface area to dissipate all the heat, and even in this review, with the 9900K, the CPU barely handled the load. For something like 3900X and 3950X, I recommend something that is designed for higher TDP.
