A different way to find the quadratic equation for x is:
x=(1+sqrt(17))/2, x*=(1-sqrt(17))/2 /* There are two conjugate roots */
x+x* = 1, x*(x*) = -4 /* sum and product of roots */
Using Vieta's formula
x^2 - x -4 = 0.
x^2 = x+4
.....
