Thank you for making this video, David. I have been looking for this very kind of information in many books, to no avail. This is exactly what I was looking for. Simple, precise information, with reasons behind what you're saying! You really are the real deal, David. May God keep you and bless you.
Great information thank you. Wow I went back to my synths, samplers, drum machines and apply the knowledge, What a difference.
Thank you for sharing ❤️
This is the content I’m looking for
This is more than we expect from great sound mixing produções and engineers.
Thank you bmvery much!

Very useful and practical information. Thank you so much for this video!
Wow, this is great, thank you👍💯
I knew this guy was legit cuz he's got wall paper from a mix board. That is true love right there.
Yeah? Then you want to take a look at my setup now.
Thanks for your time. This helped me alot
Very detailed explanation. I understood clearly.
Thank GOD you're 100% giving facts. I've argued almost all your points with people. I'm sending them this video. Maybe they will listen to you. Try telling this to people who never heard of floating point, or think Mastering engineers need a 10 DB of "headroom" or else they "have nowhere to go" LOL. THANKS!
I cannot thank you enough for your concise, detailed and informative videos. Your approach to teaching makes it not only easy, but a true pleasure to learn. Your confident yet humble manner sets your lessons apart from the sea of opinion, superstition and misinformation that can engulf one on UA-cam. I have been a professional, working musician since the 1970s, and am just learning to record at home, in the box. As someone who grew up in an analog world (and had a home studio in the 1980s) there are many rules and techniques that I have to learn - and UN-learn! I just wanted you to know that your help is truly appreciated, and from what I read in the comments section of your videos shows me that I am not alone in feeling this way. You're a gem. I wish you and yours good health and contentment. Cheers, and - in bocca al lupo!
this is the best gain staging explanation! thank you!
this is sooooo important!...took me a bit to figure out why some of my plugins were clipping. I noticed my channel meter wasn't clipping, so i was not sure wtf was going on? after knowing about "gain staging" it made all the sense to me. Very important for people starting out to know this.
great video brother thanks!
A gold mine of information and explanation. Thank you so much.
this is very cool.. very useful..very informative.. thanks for this video
Amazing very useful!!
Nice one. Good timing on this one. Just got done dealing with a hybrid-headache!!!!! I learned my lesson on the gain staging!!!!!!!
@@mixbustv Shit, I almost miss those easy days of completely staying in the box. Although, now there is something seriously addicting about running out of the box!! Lol. This whole thing i's a fun ride.
I have got better at mixing because of this video
David, another fantastic video! I’m just actually getting into hybrid mixing and this was so helpful. I’ve revisited some mixes that I did in the box and found that I absolutely have to gain stage a whole bunch to be able to run them through the hardware. Thanks again.
I am Hooked to your channel and the information my friend 🙂
The best channel to watch!
🇨🇦🇨🇦
Really great sum up of everything! My new reference video about gain staging!
Dito: Actually, i'm finding that all of these videos are my go-to base reference for pretty much everything mixing! Amazing channel. heads above the rest!
Wow , so many questions solved regarding Digital audio processing
I made a question about the clip gain and you answered really fast. Thanks a lot for being so dedicated to the channel. In the end of the video you explain it really clear. But i deleted the question before i refreshed the page. Thats the best channel ever.
Very useful thanks!
Well this explains it 😎. Thanks David 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Thanks for all these infos
Really really clear. Thanks.
love this!!!!
This is all new to me but is going to be a great help soon
Clear and to the point, as always !!
@@mixbustv More THANKS to u for taking the time to make all your awsome tutorials.
Excellent!
For those who don’t get gain staging, it’s leveling your sounds below a certain volume level BEFORE mixing with the faders(NOT the faders on your individual sound) but the mixer
So what u saying is dont touch the faders till your done using all your plugins on each track but making sure you dont clip (reaching a certain output level) then going across every track to turn them up or down by ear so they properly sit in with the mix, so the master doesn't clip?
Another question: the limiter is used to turn things up if your overall sound is too low because you've made plenty of head room let's say around -10db to -6db with the limiter?
THX!
The Street Disciple #3 think of it this way, You have to turn things down in order to turn things up while maintaining a Balance of each sound under a certain negative dB but still sounding great sonically. In order to turn them down FIRST , you have to turn down your individual sounds (if fl studio, your channel rack) and create the balance there FIRST because that’s what’s happening before it even hits the mixer. It’s GOING TO BE LOW! That’s why it HAS TO BE MASTERED, LEAVE IT TO THE MASTERING GUY PLZ. Your beats won’t sound professional if you just do it yourself & don’t know much about mastering. What would you personally use a limiter for ?
@@malthethiefguydenreturnmys7834 soo, If I'm correct gain staging has to do with maintaining a balance below a certain volume to provide headroom as your signal output is increasing after usage of those plugins. But in order to maintain that balance down the chain is to make sure your input levels is the same as you had from the start or so that it just dont clip? Now after used those plugins to get the sound made professionally. Can move on to mixing which has to do with adjusting the faders to properly get tracks to sit in the mix and the master dont clip?
The limiter I was assuming you use to increase the overall sound of the mix without clipping (bringing everything to unity)
Thank you bro God bless you!
Just stopping by to say thank you again. You mentioned unity gain 100 times before in your videos. I didn't quite understand that although I knew about the importance of gain staging. I kept gain staging in my current mix stable but wondered why I got such an low level in sum and some inconsistency overall the mix. I checked each track an realized the in and ouput levels on many plugin chains differ, some differ even very much. I realized immediately what unity gain is and matched all in and outs. What a difference that is in sound and room in the mix now. The plugins seem to work and sound a lot better too now. Overall it's a complete new improved mix. I'm overly glad I stepped a small step further in understanding. Took me some weeks :) cheers
It's a perpetual process :) It's so much joy too. Have a great day. Cheers.
Straightforward tips and techniques from "rags to riches" experience on equiptment of all genres, and no frills atmosphere telling honest "wholesome" facts and usefull knowledge that are realworld, not trying to be equipt sponsoring, with biased opinions. MIXBUS is def top of the lists in my book. Sorry Warren,Mr. Albini, and ....ya,right! Lol!!
I take that back, all these engineers are the best, and still take so much time to put these awesome vids together. Its a great time right now, info is easy and everywhere, but stick to MIXBUS,leaps and bounds above most Mixing info channels, no BS. If ur not a member, stop n do it now. Dont miss out secrets, and formulas, and " how-to"s. Knowledge is everything! yeah, experience too...luck too perhaps, and a lil little mountain of money possibly good credit helps also.
Thank you MIXBUS TV!!!!
COREY M.
that was great help, thank you very much
I have started to think that if you’re giving all that information for free, how much will you give in your mixing and mastering courses!!!
I am so much interested in buying one of your course to learn God knows what!!!
Thanks again!!
♥️🇨🇦🇨🇦
Usefull and concise.
Thank you.
Ok I gotta say thank you I have a control surface so always tend to grab the fader.... thank you applying this technique next time. I use cubase wich has a gain knob on all the channels now I get it tho thank you so much.
You are an awesome teacher. I'm getting your coffee cup!
Thanks! I realize the signal coming out of my amp models are too hot, which is why I have to set the faders low. Need to calibrate them.
6:32 is pure gold
good vid u consentrate on detail i like that i gotta show u support and sub 2 ur channel and get da most from ur experince thank you. i be busting my head figuring out a good mix.
