A couple of weeks ago Nate Garcia, Lou Jull, and Ryan Lucas were going for a fast run down the Green Truss section of the White Salmon river in Washington state when Lou went into the cave below the 'Big Brother' Waterfall. Then Nate went after her with a float and also got stuck. Luckily, they are both strong swimmers and their buddy Ryan kept his head screwed on. With some quick thinking and nerves of steel, Ryan pulled them both to safety. This is how cool heads and strong training can get you out of a very bad situation.

So, let's re-cap:
(1) Nate forgets to bring his throw bag
(2) Nate drops rope and falls into cave and requires rescue
(3) Nate falls into river again while rescue of other swimmer commencing
Has anyone signed Nate up for a SWR course? ;-)
Then after falling in a second time tries to swim upstream into heavy flowing water

Never wrap a rope around your hand!
Clip the rope on a bight to the anchor point on rock. Crucial and really effective is a vector technique on rope. It allows to pull in rope easily. Glad you are all safe now 👍
It was webbing not rope, so less likely to burn and entrap hand if you fall. yet I agree with the call you made.
You could say he was uncoordiNATEd, seeing as he loves falling in.

Wow..good one. Salute to Ryan for saving both! His quick thinking and cool head enable him to keep the situation under control. Much to be learned from him in handling emergency situation. Just wondering what would happen if both of them in the cave and no one else around? How should one get out of such situation if no one around to help? Pls share so that a life can be saved.

That cave seems to be catching a lot of people. Dane Jackson has put up a video today where he rescues a guy from that very spot.
