Itchy Boots has been riding a pre-production version in India for the past few weeks, has some really cool little features to it, I appreciate the improvements.
The trouble is with itchy boots is she hardly talks about the bike, she talks about her trip..... I want to hear about the bike, loads of vids about the bike in detail now 👍
I think she did mentioned that she will review the bike at the end of the episode. Makes sense because she needs the mileage to say something authoritative.
Finally someone that understands the importance of a removable rear subframe on these type of motorcycles, and IMO a must also for modern street motorcycles.
Kaza Brown is actually named after Kaza a beautiful mountain cold desert in the Himalayas in India. It's in Himachal Pradesh state and Lahaul and Spiti district. It's a magnificent, beautiful and ramote high altitude cold desert. One of the best place in India.
Really shows that Enfield is run by motorcycle enthusiasts instead of accountant bean counters. Has been the downfall of Harley and has not done triumph any favors. Hopefully will attract some younger riders to.
@@kenj.8897 The quality is improving with each new model. Have had a GT650 with no problems. Much preferred it to Triumph street twin which had electrical and gearbox issues.

Faster isn't always better. Royal Enfield were synomous for torquey engines-reliable engines-simple air cooled engines with 2 valve heads & adjustable tappets-low compression ratio so you can push start if you have to, if you're stuck in the middle of no where. Long stroke motors that will simply take you where you want to go even with minimal experience as they simply climbed over everything in it's path, including rocks. No more apparently, we now have a radical departure-11:5:1 compression ratio-no long stroke-no air cooled motor-4 valve head & now double overhead camshaft rather than single-shim adjusted tappets-upside down forks-full digital display so not a lot retro here nor much of the old Royal Enfield DNA. I think it's a big departure for Royal Enfield & I guess partly driven by the increased competition in the market segment from KTM390, CFM 450 MT & now the Triumph Scrambler 400X. The air box under the tank thing isn't ideal on an off road bias bike so you'd probably want to inspect/ replace at the same time you do the tappets. The weight they kept quite about until the rest of the specs come out & perhaps a little underwhelmed by the weight figure given they saved 10kg on the new motor according to the engineer yet somehow overall we only got a weight saving of 4 kg. Comments have being made about the tank-Maybe it's something we will get used to but it does look out of proporsion to the side covers in my view but hey maybe that will appeal to the new market segment something that sets it apart. The figures from the dyno may suggest it has more torque than the LS410 however in the real world I don't think that is true judging by the sound of Itchy Boots riding her's & the way she was caught slipping the clutch, however I think this could be remedied by going 1 tooth smaller on the front. Perhaps an alloy swing arm & lighter material tank might help for next years model. They went longer-wider & taller & their was always a down side to this. Otherwise I think it takes them competently into the future with a more modern Adventure bike for this market segment, to make them more competitive & hopefully attract a new generation of buyer.
Well said there old chap, i do agree, i have the old one but i do like the new one. The simplicity of the 411 was the attraction for me and my god it is simple! My only issue was a little more power for the motorways, that's about it! I'll be keeping my old version for now. Oh you missed one thing, the 450 sounds nice buuut just doesn't match that exhaust note of the 411 powering up those Welsh hills!!
I think they are trying to appeal to more people that will ride primarily in urban settings and maybe take these offroad more mildly than the previous model. Can just about guarantee you won't see these out tackling trails as much as the OG. I'm still glad they are updating and improving though.
Eicma this year is so juicy! Kove 800 super adventure,twin cylinder, 90hp, wet weight 165kg. Amazing! Ducati 698 super Moto. New Honda 500x now called the nx500. Moto Guzzi adventure tourer.
This will probably get lost in the post-EICMA rush to see reviews… I’m surprised, given that RE has already leaked nearly everything you described, that you didn’t comment on the “Rally Edition,” which so obviously sported TUBELESS RIMS. This looks like it could be a big hit for RE. Wow there will be a street oriented version of this and I will be watching. Name another water cooled efi street single with standard styling. KTM doesn't do it no one else does either!
Power figures are reasonable for engine CC. Now I wish they make a new 700cc bike with reasonable power. Maybe 80hp. It should match with Ducati scrambler.
Best part of this RE is this is not like RE anymore it's modern, it's updated, decent power figures & it has some cool features.! & hoping it will be reliable as well, still not confident enough to buy it from 1st batch of production.
The first spy images etc i saw of this bike i wasn't overly taken by the looks, but the more of it i see now in full colour the more it's growing on me. What you didn't comment on is the difference between the standard and rally editions ?. The rally looks as though it might come in at a lower weight?.
Tubeless tyres are not as safe as Tubed. You have it the wrong way round. Tubeless go down quicker than Tubed. And, if you damage the rim on Tubed you are fuct. Start walking. If you are in the middle of nowhere, you are in serious trouble unless the AA are available.
Yup, a spare tube and a puncture kit give a lot more confidence in the rockysurface where side tyre can get demaged.i remember once we put a card board plus plastic cloth on the side wall as it was cut. And put a new tube with low pressure and was able to come back home. Lol fun times.
According to various "leaks", RE plans to use this 450 platform to spawn multiple models. A road-friendly scrambler derivative has already been spied testing multiple times.
Note that the bike comes standard with crash bars and a center stand and a luggage rack. Those items must add, at the very least, 15 lbs. My Moto Guzzi center stand weighed 13lbs alone.
For a long jurney into remote places, I'd stil pteffer an air cooled angine despite having less power. So I think that market for previous, more practical models stil exists. This new model will be a big cuccess of course.
Are there two different versions of this bike? The white one had a one piece seat and what looked like rim spoked tubeless tyres?? And other subtle differences… is that a separate model or just accessorised?
@@blackskunk54 Power, with the 24hp of the old one. It was very underpowered for the highway. Especially when there was a lot of uphill. I found mine struggling when the climb was steep and speed limit 65mph +.

Nah, the Yamaha Tenere 660Z was a single cylinder bike and it weighed 206kg. Or the KLR650 that now weighs around 219kg while being a single cylinder bike.

Royal Enfield have now released the official UK prices for the new Himalayan as follows. Base version. £5,750 Pass version £5,850 Summit versions. Hanle Black. £6,050 Kamet white (tubeless). £6,250 Hanle black (tubeless option). £6,300.... To much for 450cc and one cylinder.....
So, I can't believe that with a whole new engine design this is going to be the only bike they put it in. Makes me really curious about what's coming next

RE bike ar very much effective 👌 but it's a matter of surprise last year the company sold Supper Meteor 650cc n exhibit it's full assessories especially it's fog lights n panniers, but one year has been passed the dening it's assessories.

Retrograde in my opinion. Yes it may be better going fast but I bet its not better going slow over rougher lanes etc. I loved the plonky low revving air cooled engine. Also the simplicity of it. No radiator, no coolant pipes, fans thermostats and all the other gubbins in a liquid cooled bike to go wrong. Simplicity is a great advantage in a real adventure bike for real adventures. Whats with the upside down forks with exposed stanchions? It is not a race bike. Ride it in dusty dirty conditions and I bet it will eat fork seals. Give me the original any day.
In old hymalayan i couldnt seat becouse od those side bars on both tank sides. Im 194cm height and my knees where hittng them. Hope they have fixed that
I don't really get bikes like that. Single cylinder, and yet not exactly light. Why not make it a little bigger twin? 500cc for example. Kawasaki Versys 300 has a twin engine with about 40hp and weights about 20kg less...

Bob, you missed the tubeless spoked wheels on the Rally version. That is a massive upgrade from RE.
But, it's still not available yet. Will be available in the near future.
They're still working on getting them approved.

I think the concept of RE has evolved. With the J-series 350, the amazing 650 Twins, and now this... RE has turned the corner

You forgot to mention the tubeless tyre option……. Ever tried fixing a puncture at the roadside or rapid deflation of a tubed front tyre on a motorway?

Can you revisit the Rally trim bike while you are there? Does the seat feel taller? Do the different spoked wheels feel sturdier? Thank you!
The rally version got cross spoked wheels and a different exhaust from Arrow.

Former owner of a Himmy. This new one looks like a homerun. Seems like a lot the previous ones short comings have been addressed.

Had the updated version with the navi. Traded it in for a X-Cape a year later, due to reliability issues. And it was (and still is) too underpowered.

This new Hymalayan is pretty interesting one, but the weight for the 400+cc engine 198kg is too heavy, 175-180kg is reasonable
there's large reports of power cutting completely or throttle spikes in the sub 3k rpm range, RM must address this before usa sales.
