The 2024 Yamaha YZ125 two-stroke remains the same for the new year. Structurally, no changes were made, but Yamaha is offering a unique, 50th Anniversary look, using white plastics, '90s-inspired graphics, and a purple seat cover. In this video, MXA's Connor Styers rides the YZ125 two-stroke and talks to MXA's Josh Mosiman about the pros and cons of the Yamaha YZ125, versus the YZ250F and YZ450F models which Connor has more recently graduated to.

I was in my mid 40's and ride motox at local track since my 30's and owned so many bikes.. all 4 strokes.. I rode a friends 2007 YZ125 one day and the next I was at the dealer buying one. Absolutely 1000% the most fun Ive ever had on an mx bike. It reinvigorated the sport for me. Im also 230lbs and I still only ride my 125. I lost count how many people at the track told me the bike was "too small" for me. They aint got no clue.
I was 230lbs when I bought mine thing hauls ass!! 😂 I dropped to 190 for more hp to weight ratio 😂
@@andrewpereira1117 im too muscly ;) If I drop to 190 Id look like I was sick.
Do you find that the motor carries 230 lbs no problem or is it struggling? These bike reviews make it sound like 125s have no balls but I think they get so desensitized from riding 450s all the time
@@brettfrimmer6567 it rips, 230 is pushing it but no problem
Its just more fun to ride a lighter, smaller bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Extra power just causes more fatigue. Realistically, a 125 is enough bike for the majority of recreational riders.
They need a two stroke class. That's the sound of mx
#D
long live the 2 stroke... 1988 honda trx 250r owner with a 380 big bore...nothing like a 125 keeping it wide open.
Picking mine up on Saturday 🙏🙏💪
now to talk Triumph into making two strokes
Just call Ricky C.
@@markgaudreau8053 lmao. He has bin trying to sell swoll all season on that thing
A 350 would be better. The church of 350 would pretty much become a full fledged religion for an aluminum frame 350
The frame is already basically a yz250
World still waits for the YZM500...
Awesome and the best ! I ordered mine and ill get in 2 weeks 🤩can't wait !
Cool!!
Run Maxima 927 premix. Best stuff out there. Top ends last much longer. *Do 3 -30min heat cycles to break in properly* . Bike will last 20yrs if taken care of. #Yamaha #KTM #RangerRaptor
Thank's for the advice ! Be sure ill do the heat cycles properly.@@Davido50
Thankfully Yamaha still makes two strokes, fun factor is off the charts!
Over 7K is crazy to me for a new 125.. Its the same ol tech from years ago lol
I strongly agree
And almost seems like the new ones dont resell worth anything :/
Yeah ngl u got a point 😂😂
That's called inflation
It pay be the same technology but the parts still cost money to make assemble ship put together and sell.
ktm needs to go back to a real just pure carbeurated two stroke for their mx two strokes. real two stroke guys dont want a fuel injected two stroke that you ride just like a 4 stroke, people always say the yamaha hasnt changed in forever, but what is there to chnage about it, nothing. bike perfect
The gasgas version is still carb and no electric start
@@joshuacrispell2620 no, there all e start and fuel injection
The yz 125 hás this Legendary status that you can ONLY understand after you try it. Its a true piece of modern art.
My brother has the 22 yz 125 monster edition and we did notice with the stock setup it was held back alot but once we got the lectron carb and new exchaust setup it completely changed how the bike behaves throughout the rpms
"Back in the day", 2018 to 2021, there should be an age limit on who can say that. Back in the day I rode a 125G (1980), some 90's models and last I had was 2000. Loved them all. So much fun. Grinners are winners.
Imagine thinking it’s overpriced not considering all the new engine technology and everyone missing that’s it’s a 6 speed transmission.😆
Exactly why I've never owned a 4T nor will my son
Haven't owned or ridden a Moto since Two-strokes ruled the Earth. Two-strokes rule! Four-strokes are for HDs.
I race a RMZ450, but I ride my gf's KX100 for fun!
When I turned 30 and no longer had to race teenagers, I bought a 125 to race the vet class. The most fun I ever had racing.😊
2 smokes make the world happy
I would never just let the kicker just slam back on it's own, that's a good way to crack the engine case
1st here! Looking to buy a New YZ or 2 next month!
We need a YZ 200
Long live 2 smokers
Best bike ever ✅
Love that sound... 😍😍
Long live the 2-stroke!
When can we get dyno numbers on the Triumph amd compare it to another 2024 bike to see what it really is putting down
I had the 1993 YZ 80 it was brand new technology upside down forks. I was so excited I was a teenager. I saved up my money every single check I gave to the Yamaha shop from my job until it was paid for. I bought a helmet and put it on the desk in my bedroom and a picture of the bike up on the wall in order to make myself commit to the purchase. That was so fun for a couple summers and then I outgrew it. It was ugly, then it’s ugly now in those colours. That’s my opinion. 😂
Cool ❤, greetings from indonesia
😂 Dude I did chores around the house with this in my ear!! Braaap 🔥
made in Japan 👍🔥
The best

When are you going to do a MC125 video? Nobody has posted anything about them
Always love the yz 125 for pure fun ! Too bad the rider got hung up on mosimans mustache on that one corner 😅 is that the mini me Damon Bradshaw look 😊
In 2008, i was 14 & buying my first new bike. It was between a yz125 & yz250f. Ill never forget the salesman going on & on about how all 2 strokes were going to disappear within the next year & made completely illegal. He made it sound like theyd all be obsolete, parts would disappear, & id be disappointed. Consequently, i bought a yz250f. Ive been surprised & appreciative every year yamaha continues to sell smokers.
Man this thing is nice
Josh looks like he just joined the local barber shop quartet with that new mustache 😁🥸
I had the older 2012 yz125 and the late 2022 new model. The older ripped much better in stock form.
IMO the 2005-2022 were more weekend warrior friendly, a tad less top end HP but better low end and,
it's Mikuni carburetor settings all sorted out long ago.
If I put a 50 tooth on it it comes with a 50 tooth sprocket from the factory and these guys give advise
Make em yellow and black again and then you’ll have something!😊
No!
Agreed anything but blue balls YZ's
Love this bike especially the retro look. Would've loved it more if it had silver colored alloy wheels. Those black rims just doesn't have any contrast.
I’m thinking of going from my Honda 250rx to a 125x. I’m just not sure the 125 will have the power. I’m pretty sure it’ll be a blast to ride!
you will be able to ride the bike to its potential and limits; which is the goal.
I have video on my channel from a buddy testing my yz125 coming off his 2022 crf250rx. He had an absolute blast on it. The 2 stroke is definitely faster even tho the 250rx has more hp
@@JoseFalope223hp is almost identical between the two
Josh you forget say some things. YZ is lasts years winner in the fastest 125cc series in the world, EMX125. And same money what people spend for others suspension, can buy GYTR kit what make this bike ready for EMX125 level.

The black parts ruin it for me. If you're gonna do an anniversary then do it right like Kawi did.
I think the kawi 50th anniversary looks the worst out of the others
I think it needs to come with the purple rims
@@dormantmenaceno they should be silver like my 92 93 94 and 95 yz did
Im just over mixing fuel & oil. Did it for 30yrs. My modern 4-strokes MX bikes are smoother, faster & last longer (if good basic maintenance performed). Cant race 2-strokes very easy either anymore.
I wish these 4 stroke people would watch this. This bike just screams all the way around the track and also through all the turns. The 450 pros actually just putt through the turns. I’m not kidding. It’s like they’re not even racing. Makes no sense to me at all. Thank God Yamaha en KTM and a few others still make the 2 strokes.
People like both 2 and 4 stroke
@@Supernova869-s4i I am one of them that likes both and 4 strokes surely have a place. The 2 stroke is obviously a radical machine and made for motocross where as the 4 strokes do much better in the woods, hare scrambles, enduro, cross country, deserts racing
@@zackk695 cheers man , one more thing please .. does idling ur bike with engine on wear out the engine oil and count as part of engine oil change time ? If u know what I mean .. or is it only when ur moving (rpm) on the bike ?
@@Supernova869-s4i Yes, it does count as time because the engine is running but don’t worry about it unless you let it sit and run hours at a time. Don’t worry about idling and oil last far longer than you think. Look at test on oils on UA-cam. Cars change oil every 5,000 miles yet they have shown in studies that it holds up even at 50,000 miles though not well. My point is if you need an oil change but want to ride and not do an oil change then go ride. It won’t hurt a thing and still has all its protective properties
@@zackk695 ok so it's best to just turn the engine off and not leave it on idling if Ur having a break
Can l use it on road for transport or just ride for fun?
They could sell this bike for $4k....same basic bike as a 2006? I mean, it can't cost much to make the same thing for 20 years. We need to start pressuring them for cheaper bikes. I can get a brand new last year's kx450 for the same price. Insanity. No rainbows and Sunshine 😂
It's got new suspension.. some motor mods.. Don't forget how much raw materials have risen in cost, labor. Import terrifs ... shipping cost.. your kinda just running on assumption that it cost no more to build and supply the bike today than almost 20 years ago bud.. you logic is.. well they don't have to pay for r&d.. so it shouldn't cost jack diddly. Lol. What are you 17 now
So if something is 20 years old "witch this bike is all new two years ago" they keep the cost to manufacture the same the cost of raw materials the same people's pay the same the shipping the same the dealer network the same as 20 years ago. Like the previous comment what are 17?
Do they still have the rich jetting?
Depends on where you live n ride. That's how jetting works. Has to be for correct elevation/temperature... ect.
Yes it is rich at sea level. It would only get worse with more elevation so not sure what this guy is talking about.
@@jgs1703 if Its cold at sea level.. the air is denser.. so the bike would have a leaner fuel air ratio.. vs hot.. with less dense air. Resulting in a richer fuel air. Thats what.
I live in socal our desert go from freezing to scorching.. so it does matter. Regardless of elevation
@@dormantmenace temp doesn't make that huge of a difference, sorry. Elevation is a way bigger factor. I never have to adjust my jetting and ride anywhere from 32 to 100 degrees.
@@dormantmenace the jetting on a stock yz is rich regardless of temperature. I ride anywhere from 32 to 100 degrees and the stock jetting was rich either way.
Bitchenest bike money can buy love the white plastic and purple graphics
I think i need a 250!
Funny that Yamaha keeps making 2 smokes but THEY destroyed those with their garden tractor YZF 400...
... Like they feel sorry...
Soooo sikkkkk
With that whole new motor you would think the Yamaha engineers could have got at least 37 hp. For all the new changes its not much more hp than the 21' and they lost low end in the process. If they are going to lose the magnificent easy to ride power the 21' had then they should have shot for the 37 hp mark to make-up for the lost low end.
I’ll take one off the shelf if they FI it already😅
Ur 19. You a r a kid 💪✌️😉
Connor needs a ktm with all his airfilter hassle 🤣
Alexanne Plains
Rohan Ridge
Why don't they just bring all the 2 strokes back 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Emard Mill
Don't MX tracks usually have bumps on them? 😂

Ducati just won its first supercross title read it may have been in another country. They should never stop making 2 strokes there’s nothing any better to ride.
