    I called and talked to Eric today and he gave his time without rushing me and answered a lot of questions. I have a much better understanding on what I would like to get for my first handgun now.
    Thank you so much for being such a nice and friendly person Eric! The videos you guys make are always well thought out and very informative and that is very time consuming to plan and shoot. Please keep it up!
    I might plan a vacation out to your area just so i can buy a gun from you. You are only 11.5 hours from me and i love driving.
    I was very sad to hear about Barry passing! I know he is in heaven shooting for God now.
    Thank you!

    So glad that you included the P64 in this video. That has been my primary carry pistol as a deliver driver for years. It has never failed to fire at the range and is surprisingly accurate. I put the trigger spring and lighter recoil kit on mine and it is a joy to shoot. I picked mine up for $170 back in 2008 and it has been one of my favorite pistols that I own. It has gotten me out of several bad situations. Great videos guys.

    Got 2600+ rounds through my SD9VE. To this date, not one single FTF or FTE. I have shot any and every kind of 9mm ammo, even handloads on the 'hot side'. This gun just keeps on pounding. I never changed anything, after 1k rounds the trigger gets pretty soft and isn't as hard as it is brand new. Recoil spring is still in perfect shape to have a polymer guide rod. Not one light strike yet. Keep in mind I go all out when I clean my firearms, even taking the firing pin and all out to clean/check (after a few hundred rounds some brass shavings end up inside the firing pin tube). If you own one of these guns, or are thinking about getting one, they are great, probably the best if you want a cheap'er defense handgun, my opinion. I have other guns, the SD9VE is my T+E gun for my handloads. So really, the last 1k'ish rounds through it were all handloads (that way if my dumbass goes to far with the limits I don't risk blowing up one of my expensive guns :).

    The first two guns are just what I recommended to my friend under a budget for him and his wife. I really like my bersa 380. I had some custom carbon fiber grips made for mine and it really improved the grip and appearance. My slide has seen a lot of wear from going in and out of the holster but the grips still look like new, they have held up very well.

    The only reason I can think of for you to not at least have one Taurus is because you just don't like them because of their reputation. As with all firearm companies you have a period when quality was not the best or changes had to be made to the production line do to malfunctions. S&W had some problems with the shield and early sigmas and has been plagued with revolver issues including gap space. Springfield had some problems with the XDS. I oun a few Taurus pistols and never had an issue with any of them. They have been just as reliable as my Ruger and XD pistols. You can get the Taurus pt709/940 for under $300. The Millennium G2 is all new and supposed to be really nice and can be had for around $350. Then there is the 24/7 and pt809/840. I have seen them as low as $350. And even if you have an issue they have a LIFETIME warranty.

      I owned a Taurus Millenium Pro in .45ACP and shot over 5000 rounds through it..still functioned perfect and does to this day..I love my Taurus..in those 5000 rounds it never once had a hickup..no stovepipes, no hangups, no issues at all..and considering I paid $175 for it used from a local gun shop, I was more than content with it.

    Love his comment about letting people try out his Glock 19. It was the first handgun i purchased and I'm so thankful for the people at Vance's in Columbus, Oh for pointing me in that direction, and away from the cheaper guns i had been looking at it. I own a half dozen handguns now, including a very recent purchase of an HK 45, but the Glock is still hands down my favorite! Thank you Dan Bilzerian for turning me onto Zev Tech products; now i have plenty of (expensive) options in mind for modifying my Glock.

    Gents, I carry a CZ vz 82 everywhere I go...been able to get 9x18 ammo right along...while the CZ83 was going hungry(8-) Also have a P64 and love it for
    when the CZ82 might be a little too bulky...but the double action pull..Damn!
    Love the polygonal rifling in the CZ82 barrel... Both shoot pretty accurately
    for me...though the 82 hits a little harder with its longer barrel. Oh...and
    thanks for all you guys do to make lotsa good data available for new...
    and some of us older shooters. You Lads rock!98-)

      travis bickle Yeah...they hold up pretty well too. Now. the 83 is a little loose and sloppy...but a friend made a tiny little bushing to tighten up the barrel to
      slide fit. I'll get a little more range toy time out of it and then it can be parts
      for the 82.

    • @RandyLeftHandy
      @RandyLeftHandy 11 років тому

      Hell, where I live during the ammo scare, I could find 9x18 more than I could find 9x19 or even .40. 10 bucks for 50 rounds, you can't beat it. I actually thought about looking into converting a G19 to 9x18 just for range time.

    • @moonclipper45
      @moonclipper45 11 років тому

      RandyLeftHandy At a local gunshop, a lady came in and bought a little Sig
      .380 pistol to pack. But at the time they had no ammo to sell her. One lad who works there went to his car and got 25 rounds so the lady could at least try
      the gun out. Next day I took 2 boxes of .380 down there and the owner traded
      me 3 boxed of 9X18 for it. And I STILL see more 9x18 around than 9X17...
      thought supply is catching up on .380/9X17 lately.

  • @Captain__Harlock

    Im about to buy my first handgun, and while I like your list and I definitly want that .22mag cause ive seen those for about $150, my budget is about 500-600$. Im torn between two guns, the Glock 21 .45acp, or the 9mm Walther PPQ. Both great companies, both reliable and accurate shooters. I guess it comes down to weather having 15 9mm rounds is better than having 13+1 .45acp rounds. Can anyone give me a suggestion?

    • @3333glen
      @3333glen 11 років тому

      I haven't shot the PPQ, but I've heard good things about it, and its trigger. A recommendation depends on your intended use. As a range gun, I'd go with a 9mm over a .45. But then I'd consider a Glock in a 9mm, or the S&W they look at here, or a Stoeger Cougar. The Cougar is the old Beretta Cougar. It was the daddy of the PX4 Storm, but in steel, rather than polymer. They run about $400 I think at Academy Sports. Or, look at the Taurus PT92, which runs under $400. Taurus builds it in the old Beretta factory and some folks like it better than the Beretta 92. That .22 Mag is only for a hideout emergency gun.

    • @caseybennett4482
      @caseybennett4482 11 років тому

      The PPQ is an excellent weapon. Hands down the best striker-fired gun experience, out of the box, that I have ever had. It is also quite comfortable to carry for me.
      If this is going to be a primary carry weapon for you, I wouldn't go with the G21. The PPQ is a great choice, but if you want a bit more gun look at a G23. There is a reason .40 has become a popular round for LEO, and the G23 is probably the best platform for CC in a .40. You can also get the Lone Wolf 9mm barrel to switch it to basically a G19 with a heavier nose to maximize ammo availability.
      That all said, you will not be dissatisfied with a PPQ.

    • @metalhead142
      @metalhead142 11 років тому

      I have a glock 21 sf, it is by far my best shooting gun. If you do get it, buy a steel guide rod, it really improves accuracy

    • @Doubleantone
      @Doubleantone 11 років тому +1

      For self protection you will probably only get one shot. CCW weapons are for in your face point and shoot. They are not target pistols. I hope you never need to test these theories.

      @pac6010 10 років тому +7

      Why ? If you're buying a gun at some point you intend to use it as a tool for self defense among other things, why go cheap ?
      Just save up till you can afford a better gun imo.
      If you really want the cheapest gun that works that dubious distinction would go to the High Point. They come in right around $150 these days.
      However if you can afford one of those then you can afford to save up another few months and buy one of the ones in this video, or save up another few months and buy something like a Glock.

      Its not that bad.
      A box of 9mm range ammo is anywhere from $13-$17 dollars these days.
      Self defense ammo can be had for around $20-$25 a box.
      Even on a tight budget most people should be able to afford $50 every couple months to spend on range ammo and a range trip to practice.

    Even a .22LR will drop a human being. There are no toys that go bang. They're all killers. The .22LR is the preferred round of the assassin. Does the job and does it very quietly. This should tell you something.

    • @dylanknows3147
      @dylanknows3147 9 років тому

      Nah man a .22lr ain't ganna drop no one unless you shootin heads

    • @bubbab1199
      @bubbab1199 9 років тому +3

      +Rob ONeill (Rob O) It isn't because of how quiet it is because a .22 is still loud enough 2 draw attention. A .22 is a guarantee kill. The .22 don't have enough energy 2 leave the human body so it will ricochet all over the internal organs of the body. It is basically like making them swallow a grenade. If you shoot somebody in the head the bullet will just get lodged in the skull and it may not kill them. Shooting them in the chest is the best way 2 kill them if you're using a .22 rifle or pistol. The draw back is that if you're shooting from a long distance the .22 bullet will lose a ton of power and may not be deadly when it hits the target.

      +Bubba B I agree. I was shot in the guts by one in '84. Six major surgeries and 5 outpatient surgeries later, I still need more. Fucked up my life in big ways. Still carrying the bullet at the base of my butt. Went in the front and stuck in the back. Nearly killed me. I was only saved because my doctor had been a battlefield surgeon in Vietnam and knew exactly how to handle a gut shot wound. I came very close, even had a near death experience and spoke with a Spirit while on the Operating Room Table.

      +Rob ONeill (Rob O) The only time a gun will drop you where you stand is if its a kill shot. Mainly to the head. A shot to the heart will about 95% of the time kill you where you stand as well. Even if you shoot someone with a 44 in the chest and it misses their heart. They are still going to be alive, bleeding out like a son of a bitch but still alive and possible to deliver a death blow themselves before they expire. If its not a kill shot more often than not they will be alive till they bleed out, or bleeding stops, or a kill shot is delivered.

    First off I LOVE all these vids incd Gun Gripes. I was reading about an undercover FBI bust in NY NY that went sideways and the agent had a N American arms 22mag as his holdout. The UC had to use the 22mag and later the NYPD support team asked what they heck he was using. The NAA 22mag has another feature that when you shoot it at someone that is not expecting it the muzzle flash and sound is like a cannon. The 22mag is a great round for a backup IMHO.
    Thanks to MR Moss for lending the shop.

I got it in college because my school had a no gun policy, so I needed a deep concealment piece. Invisible under even the most bare summer clothing (I routinely wore it under shorts and a t-shirt in my pants pocket) and as they say, the best concealed piece is the one you HAVE!

    I have been looking for a pistol for the longest time that would fit my criteria:
    9mm
    very small
    SA/DA
    at least 10 round standard mag
    I couldn't find any really small 9mm's that weren't DAO, and I figured a Thunder 380 was the closest I could get. I WAS WRONG! Thank you guys for mentioning their Thunder Plus. It got me to go to the Bersa website, where I found the Bersa Thunder 9 Ultra Carry. While it seems much different from the Thunder 380, it is only a little larger, and has a standard 13 round mag. It has everything I want in a pistol, and even though you didn't mention it in the video, I likely never would've found it without watching this. With how much popularity the 380 has, and how I've never seen a single other product from Bersa, I simply assumed the Thunder 380 was their only notable product. I was wrong, and I'm glad I was!

      Sorry to hear you had a failure, what happened if you don't mind me asking?. I really like how mine shoots, the bore-axis/grip is REALLY low to the top of your hand and it really kills what little recoil the 9mm has for me. I wish ya luck if you give it a try again, it can be hard to trust something that failed you once, esp. firearms. I haven't actually been shooting mine since I picked up a Canik TP9SA though (I have a thing for the "sleeper", budget guns and that Canik is AMAZING, so much so I wish I could use it as an EDC) but the DB has been fairly flawless for me. The DB is getting re-deployed as the "truck gun" for the time being but not because it hasn't worked, it just got beaten out by a better "sleeper". For the backcountry I carry my 10mm G20. and my EDC/CC weapon is a Kahr 9mm.

    I got a Makarov 380 acp that was made in the early 90's for the American civilian market. It has an adjustable rear sight and it's chambered for 380acp. I love the double/single action. It's bullet proof. It used to be a great carry gun but now I carry either the Ruger ECP 380 as my pocket gun or the LCP 9mm. I recently purchased a Zastava M57 (7.62x25), brand new manufacture for about $270. I have yet to receive it, kind of a late Christmas present. But none the less, I would highly recommend either this model of the M70 (9mm version). They are very inexpensive and damn fine quality for what you pay for. Brand new manufacture, so the safeties included on them are designed for them, not just 'tacked on' for importation laws, etc. Now I mentioned the M70 model, basically the same price, almost the same gun except the cal. change. Since the 7.62 Tokarev round is starting to get more difficult to find, BUT their are still new manufacture ammunition that is made for it. So despite the higher price for the ammo, it might just be worth it in the end.

Easy to conceal holds 9 +1. My rear safety broke after about 500 rnds, gun could still shoot so nothing major that would leave me defenseless they mailed me a repair kit asap and it was a breeze to install. They make a version with out the safety though. Both are easy to take down to clean.

    In my experience teaching shooting to people who have never handled guns before, I would always recommend a single-action, slide operated, hammer-fired semiautomatic. They are simpler in design, thus easy to learn it's full functions, and much safer to handle. The 1911 is a great choice for someone who wants to own an automatic for the first time. As of this time, Kahr Arms AKA Auto-Ordnance makes a basic, milspec 1911 for budget price, and they have been for the last 20 years.
