Honeslty was suprised after 4hrs of binge watching yalls podcast that your only at 5k subs. These are top quality podcast with great content, excellent topics and discussions. Keep up the great work.
Cool comment... One year later and they're at 50k subs. Shows what's happening in the shooting market. @Vortex now goes to school in a limo and is the most popular kid in school. They've done well :)
As of 6/28/24 the current number has grown to 125k. However I must say it should be at 1 million. This channel actually has content of substance. Essentially every episode is packed full of information history humor.
Living in Ireland, the most prominent calibers here are .22 LR and 12 gauge. There are plenty of centrefire rifles but only 1 single range that goes beyond 100/200 metres. My local range is 51m (55yd) so my focus with my cz452 is consistent sub moa. My best group to date is 1/4 moa but average 1/2 moa regularly. A box of 100 CCI standard or subsonic rounds is €15 ($18.29) and something like Eley subsonic or SK match for 50 rounds is €7.50 a box ($9.14). Hopefully I can find a local range to push out to 100m this year! Love the podcasts guys, really great format you have going! Subscribed!
Good luck. I am impressed with how many hoops must be jumped through across the pond, just to enjoy some recreational shooting. Glad you have the opportunity to do so.
Re-watching this and I'm reminded that you, and probably this specific video, were what opened my eyes to the possibility of shooting .22 at longer range. Shooting at Bisley (in the UK) at 300yds after I got my .22 RPR and I figured it was a bit close for my 6.5CM, but thanks to you I wondered if I could do it with my .22. Not the greatest group, but (once I'd got sighted in) got all 10 rounds on the target which I was happy with... and much cheaper than if I'd done it with the 6.5! Amusingly no one in my club had even considered doing that before... but I suspect next time we're at 300yds I won't be the only one bringing out the .22.
Man, the after podcast conversation was extremely entertaining/interesting. It's fun hearing people just really get into a ridiculous topic. Though that's often how some pretty cool things are created.
Things were rough after WW2 so my dad was driving a tractor, planting cotton, while resting a .22 pump on the steering wheel...to sell rabbit pelts for hats made in Houston (and food). He learned conservation from his dad who would give him ONE .22 bullet when he was younger to hunt. All through a $12 rifle from the Sears catalog. Now about that depleted uranium round... Great show!!!
Just shot my first match of nrl22. Loved it !!!! People were very helpful. The money that some have in equipment and ammo is crazy but I can see how are you get hooked it’s probably the most fun I ever had
As always, an excellent show. So much fun and interesting info from Ryan and his calculator. . I have just returned to the world of .22 / .22LR and so I figured this would be an great watch during dinner. . . My first shot was also a .22, with my dad, at a very young age. Good times.
When I was a kid, our house was surrounded by farm fields. I was standing out back next to where a camper was parked. All of a sudden a bullet hit it, probably a .22LR. That thing at bare minimum had to come from a mile away. I was blamed for shooting the camper. No one ever believed me. Hopefully someone here will :D
I believe you bro 😂 my neighbor was shooting at a squirrel (I assume) in his tree and the rounds were consistently ricocheting towards the house. I could hear the whiz of the round, went out, yelled at him to stop bc it was coming my way, one hit the house, and my parents were pissed at ME! I feel your pain bro.
Just found this channel - (12/22) and find this podcast super interesting. As I own several Vortex products I was initially drawn to the podcast expecting to hear all things Vortex. Instead you guys waded deep into the .22 weeds and I was captivated . The after party was even more enticing. I’m ready to break out the .22’s I rarely shoot. Ya need another one to dive even deeper into the “what ifs”. Thanks!
I'm with you Mark! First thing I shot was my great grandpa's .22LR when I was around 7 or 8. Sadly, I don't know anything about the rifle or I'd tell ya'll. I think my older brother has it now. Anyway, somehow, I had 6 other guns before owning my own .22LR lol. I used to shoot my dad's a lot, but it wasn't mine. Not sure why it took me so long to obtain my own. Probably because I mostly enjoy things that can reach out and touch the moon lol. Like my 300 PRC. But I have a pond and the turtles were getting out of control. So I bought a Savage b22 Precision, slapped a Crossfire II 3-9x40 on it (didn't want the rimfire) and started culling. I love that little thing.
Try grasshopper hunting with a 177 pellet gun. Stalk stalk stalk get ready to shoot and he flies like a pheasant. It's all about training and having fun for pennies. Just a thought.
Great video guys! I also love the .22 rimfire. Those powderless .22 cartridges at 510 fps are a great alternative to an air rifles. They are so quiet as well. You should have mentioned the daisy rifle of the early 60’s I believe. It used a solid propellant pellet bonded to the bullet end (case-less). The ignition source was compressed air that the rifle would make by cocking a spring piston back in a chamber. The heat of the compressed air would ignite the solid propellant and fire out the projectile. Unfortunately the ignition wasn’t reliable, esp coupled with environmentally exposed solid propellant.
As for distance, I just watched a 22LR plinker UA-cam video go for a long distance shot. With a fairly high end set up, he managed to hit a coke can at 700 yards with Match grade 22LR ammo. Even when dialed in, it needed about 10 rounds to randomly land 1 on the can (the group size at that range was about a 2 foot circle).
Your "turn it up to 11“ reminded me of the wholesome pinewood derby car racing..... Now with graphite pocket axles, lathed wheels and axles, precise axle placement, canted axles, ect ect. There's always going to be those people who eek every last bit of performance from something. Great discussion!
Hmm I reload 22LR and I don't think I am psycho. I use the chemistry kit and the snap caps/matches. I think it's fun. Started getting into making my own black powder.
Wow... the last 20 minutes was fascinating. It was "go time" when Ryan turned his hat backwards. Listening to Seth what was saying was awesome. "Day drinking" ... hilarious.. . . It is now a year later and I wonder if anything came to pass with this brain storming. Ending with "oven mitts" was wonderful. Health and Happiness to at Vortex.
Listening to Ryan and Seth reminds me of R & D brainstorming sessions back in the day. Watching them carry on normally with the food while people here in Cali were freaking out over covid, stripping and decontaminating after shopping trips.
I have heard tale of a .22 and an old logger where I grew up in eastern Washington. Story has it whenever he would drink too much, he would wander off with a .22 revolver to hunt black bears. And as story has it, he was successful on occasion.
Henry is now making a lever action smooth bore .22 they're also calling the garden gun. Not much practical use, but sure sounds like fun! Also love the idea of the .22 ELR.
My old man has one and loves it. He runs shorts, shot and some super quiets out of it and its like a BB gun in the backyard. Perfect little critter getter! More than few red squirrels and chipmunks paid the piper already.
@@DSToNe19and83 My first thought when I read “smooth bore garden gun” was to use shot. I can see it being a great tool for that exact purpose if nothing else.
There were GALLERY guns at carnivals and amusement parks. The muzzle was chained to the bench so the rifle couldn't be turned from the gallery. The shooting gallery had steel moving targets. I remember shooting at Cony Island, Steeplechase Park. Winchester and Savage made those pump action gallery guns. I haven't seen any live fire .22 shooting galleries in 50 years. The air powered BB guns have taken over in shooting galleries.
Just so you know, I laughed talking about the garden gun... Henry started making a lever action this year and I bought one... we have 5 chicken houses (500 feet each) and the smooth boar is awesome in the chicken house on rats at 10-25 feet!!
So far I’m about half way through this program. My best friend and I competed with each other for years when it came to rimfires. He went as far as buying high grade a high grade Cooper. I had a Cooper TRP bench gun, but it honestly didn’t shoot any better than my CZ 452 American. It was easier to shoot than the CZ, but that’s when I decided to scale back to just shooting CZ. I still have an Anschutz 1720 for sniping hogs and such.
When I was a kid I would use a smoothbore savage to shoot invasive sparrows and starlings inside a tin shed. Dad learned the hard way to use the crimped end stuff after the capsule didn’t break up and the whole thing went through the side of the shed.
In the early 1970s, we had MoSkeet at Boy Scout summer camp for Marksmanship merit badge. Single shot Remington bolt actions, ...heavy and bulky...very frustrating. Also single shot 22LR rifles on the range. You could get the badge twice, once for shotgun and once for rifle. Back then we got free ammunition from the National Guard and every Scout attending camp got basic firearms training. Today's tree-hugger parents would freak, then back-then it was unremarkable. I spent the whole camp either shooting or sailing on Chesapeake Bay. Thompson Center used to make straight rifling for .410 shot-shells for T/C Contender pistols. I think they made straight rifled 22LR barrels too. A T/C receiver has a hammer with both Rimfire and Centerfire firing pins....
I zero my 22lr for a 100 yards, ruger 10/22 is my go to gun for coyote. I have shot my ruger 10/22 500 yards at pop cans. This back in the 80's when spitfire ammunition came out by federal. 1500 fps. Love that ammo. I wish you could still buy it.
I been shooting for 30 years. Guns were part of daily life growing up in rural Kentucky. All these years later ive accumolated a lot of guns..but a good ole 22LR is still my favorite to shoot 😎👍. Ive had a 22 in about eveything but my fovorite is the Henry lever gun. I just never was crazy about the semi autos. I tended to waste ammo with them rather than focusing on precision. Then the bolt actions were kinda boring. So the lever action Henry struck a good balance between speed and accuracy. Not as fast as the autos, not as accurate as the bolts, but right in the middle 👍
Bella Twina age 63, shot the N American Record Brown Bear with a single shot 22. Year was 1953. She was out hunting small game when she had no choice but to throw down.
There was a thread a long time ago on arfcom, where the author decided to test distance that 22 was lethal. He wrapped a thawed Turkey in a shirt and denim jacket and the premis was that penetrating through the turkey was equivalent to enough penetrating on a human. I think he got close to 400yds.
First off thank you guys for all the great content, keep up the great work. The question i have is when sighting a centerfire you just go get nice match grade ammo and start with your conventional sight in as described in vortex nation podcast ep.38. How would you sight in a 22.lr? Bore site of course but as most know there is no best 22lr its whatever shoots best to your rifle. so would you bore sight then shoot groups with multiple vendors and see which bullet had the best grouping and then adjust the scope to which ever was best?
I honestly think this depends on your own personal preference and level of anticipated use. For me, as a plinker and occasional squirrel/rabbit hunter, I’ve found that CCI mini mags make sighting in my rifle(s) easy and do the job very well (hunting), but also don’t drastically change where my bullet impacts if I switch to bulk ammo for plinking. If I were to get into precision stuff I’d probably buy a few types of higher end ammo and see what that precision 22 rifle likes and then just shoot that. I have owned a Tikka T1x MTR, CZ 457 and now shoot a Ruger American rimfire and honestly at practical distances I don’t notice a drastic difference.
Was 8 when I was given a lever action 22 with a barrel magazine to shoot domestic pigs in the pen. The imaginary cross between the ears and the eyes. This progressed to shooting cattle, usually standing about 10 yards from the animal. I have shot horses, bulls, wallabies, no problems. Hunting small game I used a 38 grain bullet shooting out to 100 yards. They would be my light arm of choice as a defense, allowing accuracy is the key.
i think the first gun i shot was a 12 gauge mossberg then a s&w 357, then beretta 40. then my first gun my dad bought me was a ar 15, but with the cmmg conversion kit to shoot 22lr. since then ive been a big fan of ELR 22lr ive been shooting 400 yard targets withe the standard ruger american rimfire and a 6-18x bushnell rimfire optic bdc scope(discontinued) but i want to go farther so i need more moa adjustment
My private range is set up as a 30 to 50 yard gallery or I shoot into a Hill With steel targets and bowling pins and other types of targets landscape bricks and things going up the hill and there’s so much different things to shoot at. And it’s because I’ve always loved the idea of shooting in these galleries are the gallery games at the festivals and I wanted to do something like that but for firearms
My first was a 12 gage, was a blast literally. My dad’s A5, the old school one. I think I was 10 way back in the day. I didn’t get my first .22 until I was mid 40’s, a CZ455 varmint with a Diamondback 4-12x40. Man I love that gun. I also have a Remington Speemaster 552, also a great shooter. Got interested in .22 PRS not too long ago. May go there🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. That’s a nice puppy lying on the table.
After listening to a couple of these episodes and then actually seeing what you guys look like, I was expecting Ryan to be a lot older. He has a very fatherly voice.
About Remington Snake Charmer Barrel measured 18 in Long it was regularly regulation I mean length just made for carrying on your in your vehicle for ranch and construction workers on their doors or have equipment just force rattlesnakes and venomous snakes so they can be shot with that 22 pellets shot long rifle BB round that you're talking about that snake charmer
Never enough! I went and bought the cmmg conversion for my AR. What a slick lil setup. Also went and bought a Henry. Between the ar conversion, other rifles and pistols I'm up to 7.
We are NRL and our most recent course of fire was 25 yards = Open Sights and Red Dots. If you had an optic, your course of fire was 50 yards. To say that target size made the event challenging is putting it mildly.
This makes me curious as to what your targets are. Ive never shot in a competition, but got myself a KYL rimfire target and can clear the rack at 50yds quite regularly with my .22lr Theres a competition like an hour from me, the king of point28 miles they hold every year. Ive been wanting to go, but havent had the chance. They shoot .22lr to 500 yards
In regards to the .22 BC 🤣 (22ELR) is this thought for highBC sub-sonic or super sonic round??? If super-sonic, will the boolit be able to handle the trans-sonic transition? I’m bored… I’ve watched the last segment 4 times now 👀
no... "most" 22lr has a BC from .12 to .19... subs will always be more accurate... you cant fit a better design and still have it fit and function in a normal LR
you talked about the remington pump 22, but i believe the remington 552 speedmaster semi-auto shoots 22 short, long and long rifle. i believe its one of the only semi autos that shot all three.
Jerry's Nephews at Clark customs did a similar shot already in the very underrated series shootout lane. I believe they shot 2 before impact and is current world record.
i would think with lead heads one could use a pencil sharpener (type) device to hone/control shape, but then not weight.. thoughts?? weight is likely more an accuracy factor than shape?
Just my 2 cents here but I had a red dot reflex sight on a 10/22 and it was an incredibly fun option for fast plinking under 50 yards or so. I also had another 10/22 with a 2-7 rimfire scope and found that I could still shoot relatively fast at 25-50 yards but it gave me the ability to dial up to 7x and shoot at 100 yards. An in-between option for you might be something like a 1-6 scope…no magnification or parallax on 1x but magnification if needed.
If you plan on taking your favorite old 22lr rifle to a NRL22 match and think you're going to be in base class like they indicated in this video, you might want to read the rules. The $1050 max for rifle and scope list price is (corrent list price) If your gun or scope is out of production or doesn't have a current SKU number it will not qualify for ( base class) My friend got all set up with a new rifle and Athlon scope and was well under the limit but Athlon came out with the Gin2 and stopped making gin 1s this will and did bump him into the open division. I'm just saying companies like Ruger, Savage, CZ and so no drop rifles all the time and scope companies do the same. The NRL22 needs to take a better approach to this rule, but if you get to shoot a few matches before you get kicked up to open class it's probably time for you to move on up! Lol just tell your lady you have no choice, you do have a choice but it all costs money! Lol Please read the rules before passing incorrect info Just remember if they're not current SKUs you're in the open class. Sometimes there is less compition in the open class so just move on. So if you've had your gun for a few years it's more than likely it won't qualify for base class
One thing that seems weird is that most of the target and competition ammunition is not made in the United States you would think that there would be more companies in the United States building competition ammunition federal builds a little bit but most is made by Lapua or Eley in England or Germany
I have a .17WSM that has a 24 inch barrel and I have zero doubts it would easily punch through the lungs of a deer or a pig. Or a human fir that matter!
Many times my 22lr goes a bit squirly on me at distance because as soon as it drops from supersonic to subsonic its ballistics loosen up and it looses any kind of repeatable accuracy. The idea of subsonic for distance is interesting...
Its true, youll see much better results with subs. Shoot for 1130 and under, as thats the speed of sound give or take. Atmospherics do change that. CCI standard is a fantastic loading, and rated velocity is 1070fps
My daughter took a badger @ 108yrds (from my blind to my feeder) with CCI subsonic 40gr lead hollow point. She was aiming for the head and nailed it in the neck............she's 8 years old.
22 shot shell number 1 use is teaching kids or newbies how to shoot flushed birds. Pump smoothbore 22 plus tall grass and shoot the grasshoppers that get kicked up.
There are companies that will test shoot various rounds of 22 to see what shoots best in your rifle. You can then buy a large lot of that ammo from them.
Question for Seth! What kind of engineering field is he in? I'm a ME major, and share his enthusiasm for the gun community! Just wondering if I have a chance to follow his career path. Thanks in advance. 4 22s sit in my safe!
I thought reloading my 9 mm was Tedious on a single stage press. 4000 rounds later. Fortunately I can do it well sitting around hanging out the family are having my morning coffee on the patio with my portable workbench I didn’t even realize I had made so many rounds until I saw I had Several gallon sized Ziploc bags filled with 9 mm ammo. It was one thing to do it for my competition ammunition something completely different when I started loading my plinking ammunition
Biggest animal I've shot with a 22 was a red fox. This was the mangy-est red fox you've ever seen, maybe had fur on a third of its body, this was late October and there's no way this fox would have survived the winter. I had a Lakefield mkII (Same as a savage). The fox was 65 yards away, I aimed at the neck at the base of the skull and took the shot, he dropped right there.
During the Depression my Grandfather and Grandmother worked the family homestead outside of Stamford, Texas. 22LR was the only ammo they could afford.

Well it is said in the reloading/casting crowd that lead is the poor man’s gold.
This was my favorite out of all your podcasts. Ive watched it so many times. Would love another 22lr competition style podcast!
Agreed. All my other calibers have been relegated to SHTF duty in long term storage. 22lr is the only ammo in constant rotation in my house lately.

Same here
It'd be a dream come true. All comparison videos of the 17 hmr are always comparing it to the 22 lr which makes absolutely no sense.
dont forget the 17wsm
@@chase7354 yea but once again the 17 wsm is in a different weight class when compared to the 17 hmr and 22 wsm. Although I do love the 17wsm as well.

best podcast yet, the off the cuff conversation at the end was great!
Great hearing some history of 22 cartridge. Keep up the great discussions and information about shooting.

I have heard tale of a .22 and an old logger where I grew up in eastern Washington. Story has it whenever he would drink too much, he would wander off with a .22 revolver to hunt black bears. And as story has it, he was successful on occasion.
.22 LR cartridge boxes used to all be marked on the opening flap, CAUTION-range over 1 mile.
They don’t anymore?
@@DSToNe19and83 well they have it in small letters next to the ballistics table on the back it says range 1-1/2 miles. Be careful.
Yep. Saw some today where that is marked on the front cover.
We need an update on the reload-able long range .22 ammo!

My first thought when I read “smooth bore garden gun” was to use shot.
That's good to know!!
Fairground galleries were everyday in UK twenty years ago, .22 short format. There were .177 springers, and airline pneumatics as well.
22LR is shaped like a pistol bullet which is subsonic round, you can force them over the sound barrier but 22LR is designed to fly sub sonic.
Can y'all do an updated .22 podcast, maybe specifically on the 10/22? That would be a great listen from you!
I wanna see the 3d printed/ high bc 22 bullet!
doesn't work well with FDM, resin shoots pretty through
There is a company that holds a patent on 3d printed projectiles from 22 to 40mm. Right now that are concentrating on 20G slugs for custom slug guns.
Bella Twina age 63, shot the N American Record Brown Bear with a single shot 22. Year was 1953. She was out hunting small game when she had no choice but to throw down.
Heard that story climbed a tree and shot it thirteen times in the head
There was a thread a long time ago on arfcom, where the author decided to test distance that 22 was lethal. He wrapped a thawed Turkey in a shirt and denim jacket and the premis was that penetrating through the turkey was equivalent to enough penetrating on a human.
I think he got close to 400yds.
1:21:07 Reagan's (would-be) assassin used explosive lead-azide 22lr rounds. We have the technology
Best conversation is the last 10 minutes.
Marlin 866 with micro groove Bbl. CCI minimags, prairie dogs at 350yds. Head shots.
What rifle is on the table? CZ 457 Royal?
At 1:10:20 what optic are they talking about?
Strike Eagle 5-25x
@@VortexNation thanks!
The last few minutes where they just nerd out on a hypothetical 1,000 yard .22 LR was probably the best segment of the Vortex Podcasts I've seen.
Awesome podcast!
Except for the shooting dragon flies. They eat mosquitos, so they are pure goodness.
can you do somethin about the 17wsm
After listening to a couple of these episodes and then actually seeing what you guys look like, I was expecting Ryan to be a lot older. He has a very fatherly voice.
About Remington Snake Charmer Barrel measured 18 in Long it was regularly regulation I mean length just made for carrying on your in your vehicle for ranch and construction workers on their doors or have equipment just force rattlesnakes and venomous snakes so they can be shot with that 22 pellets shot long rifle BB round that you're talking about that snake charmer
Long range 22 target shooting is like racing 50cc motorcycles. Oddly enough it’s way more fun than larger machines.
A lot of my Highpower practice is done with .22lr 40gr. standard velocity at 100 yrds. I have a match grade upper for my AR15.
Is it weird that I would rather watch/listen to this podcast than anything on “tv”
"Look in any safe, there is a 22lr", (I look at my safe and count 5 22lr guns) I have to many ... or is it not enough?
Never enough!
5 as well! Soon to be 6!
Never enough! I went and bought the cmmg conversion for my AR. What a slick lil setup. Also went and bought a Henry. Between the ar conversion, other rifles and pistols I'm up to 7.
Yeah I have 6 myself, 2 10/22s, a Henry pump, a cz 452, a browning Buckmark, and heritage revolver.
What about an episode about BPCR (Black Powder Cartridge Rifle) competition in the future?
We are NRL and our most recent course of fire was 25 yards = Open Sights and Red Dots. If you had an optic, your course of fire was 50 yards. To say that target size made the event challenging is putting it mildly.
This makes me curious as to what your targets are. Ive never shot in a competition, but got myself a KYL rimfire target and can clear the rack at 50yds quite regularly with my .22lr
Theres a competition like an hour from me, the king of point28 miles they hold every year. Ive been wanting to go, but havent had the chance. They shoot .22lr to 500 yards
@@nateh2652 the targets are 1" bullseyes. 25 on an 8-1/2 X 11 piece of paper.
Is a red dot enough if I’m not shooting my 10/22 past 100 yards?
The $1050 max for rifle and scope list price is (corrent list price)
If your gun or scope is out of production or doesn't have a current SKU number it will not qualify for ( base class)
My friend got all set up with a new rifle and Athlon scope and was well under the limit but Athlon came out with the Gin2 and stopped making gin 1s this will and did bump him into the open division.
Lol
Please read the rules before passing incorrect info
Just remember if they're not current SKUs you're in the open class. Sometimes there is less compition in the open class so just move on.
So if you've had your gun for a few years it's more than likely it won't qualify for base class
"and stopped making gin 1s this will and did bump him into the open division"
it wont, because no one looks at that.... even at the nationals....
Need to hear pod cast on 17 wsm rifle
my first cartridge was a 25-06 but right after that was the .22lr
This was an amazing episode, and it's due for a follow-up
My daughter took a badger @ 108yrds (from my blind to my feeder) with CCI subsonic 40gr lead hollow point. She was aiming for the head and nailed it in the neck............she's 8 years old.
As the saying goes among calibers: 22 is the king, 32 is the queen...
First time I’ve heard that!
22 shot shell number 1 use is teaching kids or newbies how to shoot flushed birds. Pump smoothbore 22 plus tall grass and shoot the grasshoppers that get kicked up.
Great episode!
There are companies that will test shoot various rounds of 22 to see what shoots best in your rifle. You can then buy a large lot of that ammo from them.
First firearm I ever shot was a .50 cal. black powder rifle, then a 30-06 the 22lr
“You have a degree in nerd” 😂😂😂😂 love ittttt
😂😂😂
Question for Seth! What kind of engineering field is he in? I'm a ME major, and share his enthusiasm for the gun community! Just wondering if I have a chance to follow his career path. Thanks in advance. 4 22s sit in my safe!
Oh nvm! Lol. I got excited and jumped the gun. Thanks!
WHAT IS THE BEST RIFLE BARREL LENTH FOR------22LR------AND---22MAG---??????
Reloading 22lr is the same reason you reload anything I shoot competition in Europe and consistently get 8th of a inch 3 shot gripes
NOBODY reloads 22lr or "accuracy"....
Great stuff
I thought reloading my 9 mm was Tedious on a single stage press. 4000 rounds later. Fortunately I can do it well sitting around hanging out the family are having my morning coffee on the patio with my portable workbench I didn’t even realize I had made so many rounds until I saw I had Several gallon sized Ziploc bags filled with 9 mm ammo. It was one thing to do it for my competition ammunition something completely different when I started loading my plinking ammunition
First caliber for me was a .380 or a .410. Beretta cheetah 84, and break action single shot shotgun
Right on!
I warm up on butterflies, then work my way to mosquitoes, then gnats.Never underestimate the 22Lr.
we blasted yotes at our old hunting property with a .22 LR , and it was an absolute slayer one shot drops.
I have a picture of my Mother holding a 3yr old me and my Grandfather holding a 460 Weatherby and me pulling the trigger. Does that count?
Biggest animal I've shot with a 22 was a red fox. This was the mangy-est red fox you've ever seen, maybe had fur on a third of its body, this was late October and there's no way this fox would have survived the winter. I had a Lakefield mkII (Same as a savage). The fox was 65 yards away, I aimed at the neck at the base of the skull and took the shot, he dropped right there.
NRL22 base class is currently scope + rifle being under $1200
Calico mane a .22 machine gun that was absolutely ferociously devesting.
