Build a Halls Popular 8x6 Greenhouse With Us!

  • Well, what an epic week it’s been!!
In seven days Clare and Duncan, with the invaluable and extensive help of their cousin Andrew, have built not one but two greenhouses on their kitchen garden and home allotment vegetable plots.
Watch the video to see some footage of the build of the Halls Popular 8ft x 6ft greenhouses, including how the footings were constructed, and hear a few pointers along the way to make a DIY project greenhouse build go smoothly. One of the greenhouses is constructed brand new, the other is a free marketplace greenhouse.
One greenhouse is fitted with beautiful staging from ‪@copagrey‬, and Clare talks briefly about the ease of making it and her plans for that glass house
There’s amini tour of the new greenhouse on the lawn, which will be used for seed starting/potting on. A great project that will take Clare one step closer to achieving a goal of part time self suffici ency as part of a “grow your own food” project.
Thanks for watching. Please consider liking and subscribing. All comments will be responded to. It really helps to grow the community and channel.

This is reassuring. I’ve spent three weeks building a concrete footing and mini brick wall, plus central and external granite slab paths on concrete footings. The 10 by 6 greenhouse goes up next week. Building a brick base accurate to about 1 mm was fun! The frame goes directly on the brick, no galvanised base.

As long as you’ve accounted for the fact the door runner sits under the greenhouse frame, so you need at least 4mm clearance or the door won’t run properly?

Very nice Greenhouse Clare, now all i have to do is put my Green Greenhouse together, i saw the tiny nuts and bolts and i hate them i always say to Tracey (my wife) that "these nuts and bolts are for people with small thin fingers not sausage fingers like mine" we did laugh at the time but by halfway through the build which was one of those metal sheds that we bought years ago for the bikes to go in, we were not laughing.

Hi Clare, I built my own greenhouse about 3 years ago, very fiddly, the frame went up really quickly but the roof, door and windows took the longest along with the window beading. I'm only tiny so I did struggle a bit building a 10x6. But now it's the hub of the garden and I get so much enjoyment out of it. I hope you and the family enjoy your new spaces. Hi Haydn, I have full sympathy for your fingers and thumbs over the black strips. I got a blister 😅
Glad you’re pleased with your greenhouse. Hope it’s full of greenery now. What are you growing in it? ☺️

Hi Clare, the way you are going you'll be opening a farm shop soon.
Staging looks really nice, I did laugh at you insta when you said it had been nearly divorce, those rubbers look fiddly.

I’m pretty sure we need therapy after those rubber trims. Didn’t help that the metal was cold too, I don’t think. At least it’s done now. Proud of us (and Andrew) for getting the project sorted. Couldn’t have done it without him.
Absolutely love the staging. It’s such a game changer. It’ll definitely outlive me 🥹🙈

It wasn’t tricky at all. I couldn’t film putting the glass in as Andrew was doing that, with us passing him the panes and clips. It was much easier than I thought it would be. Not sure why we were so scared of doing it now 😅

I can't watch this. I gave myself overuse tendonitis last weekend trying to build my 3x6 polycarbonate tunnel style greenhouse alone and have got half the frame and very little more progress. But at least my arm is mostly better now. I literally could not do any more and it's pissing me off!

Oh no.. I can imagine it’s quite fiddly on your own. I’m sorry you hurt yourself doing it. Don’t suppose you’re in Staffordshire and I could volunteer to help you finish it?

BEWARE...These greenhouses are not 6x8. They are over that size. I built my slab base to 8x6 and it was too small

    • @TheFarmyardGarden
      @TheFarmyardGarden  2 місяці тому

Yes, the overall dimensions are 8ft 5” x 6ft 4”. We noted that at the time of purchase but made our bases to fit the greenhouse base anyway. So luckily not a problem we encountered.
Annoying for you if you’d not noticed the spec sheet when buying.

The instructions are available online at the Halls website, and the photos are much better quality. My neighbour Reg’s Halls greenhouse is 20 years old, t’other neighbour Sue’s is 15+ years old.
