Hi, I’m looking at building my own small greenhouse using the glass units from removed double glazed windows. I was thinking of using polycarbonate for the roof but now I am reconsidering. Thanks for the video 👍👍👍.
Oh see now I think that is really exciting. I wish I had the skills or even the courage to do something like build my own greenhouse. Hope that goes well!!!
You are so encouraging thank you so so much for the information I listen to you like three times and I’m going to get ready to start of my greenhouse for the first time with no experience thanks to you. Wish me luck
You are so welcome! You will do great. It's absolutely not hard to get gardening at all, just start small and get to know your local. The weather and temperature around you will dictate what you can and can't grow successfully.
Really? This is considered really expensive for a glass greenhouse here… especially you see how much more expensive when you compare it o the £300 or so that the old polycarbonate cost
@@eliandkate ok you convinced me to look and I did find one like yours for a similar price. Yours looks gorgeous. I’ve wanted one forever. Maybe next year. I have already ordered a clear polycarbonate dome 15 foot diameter which cost $5000 US. I really hope it’s worth it. Have been concerned about wind so I looked for domes. If I lived there I would have been able to see one of these domes in person because they seem yo be at some restaurants but none here so I guess it’s a gamble.
I have a wooden polycarbonate green house. As the panels age, I will be trying to replace them with glass. It does do the job I want it to do and has for the last four years I've had it though. I hope to replace the roof panels at the end of this growing year, wish me luck!
They so do. I had mine for 6 years and my only complaint was it just didn’t cope with our windy garden. But it churned out tomatoes and peppers and all sorts 😀😀😀
Oh lucky you. So what do you consider a warm day? We were quite happy yesterday afternoon when we hit 7C with a wee bit of sun.... a few hours later we were in a blizzard. Sigh...

Only just watched this , as thinking of getting some sort of a greenhouse either this year or next year & this has been really helpful . Sounds like a glass greenhouse is so much better . Fab video ☺️
@@eliandkate I do think Glass Greenhouses last better , when I think my Dad has had his for over 40 years now & after watching some other videos , as well as yours , the polycarbonate really doesnt sound as promising lol
Ha ha ha It’s been a few years since this video and polycarbonate greenhouses have come on leaps and bounds. I’d say it’s definitely worth have a look and seeing for yourself these days
I'm thinking of getting a Polycarbonate one. Buy we get the odd windy day where I am every few months. Usually up to 40mph... any idea how much wind Polycarbonate can withstand???? And if I do get one, could I also do some additional work on it to reinforce it?
It's a but like how long is a piece of string these days 🤔 you get so many different types of polycarbonate greenhouse now some are super strong and designed for windy environments - like the polycrub. I think your best bet is to have a chat with the company of any greenhouses you are thinking about and ask them for specific advice about your situation. They would be the most knowledgeable on the specs . 😀
@@eliandkate I spoke with a few people who got the same one I've just purchased, and some said on really windy days their panels blow out... BUT.... they siliconed the panels in place and they say its flawless, completely waterproof and wind proof, no damage, and is very hot inside. 👍 excited to build it now
I have a wooden/ poly greenhouse. All windows and panels etc. have been sealed with silicon. We tried to place it in a less windy part of the garden (hedge nearby, but far enough to not effect light), but it has survived four years with more winds than that. We get a lot of wind. It's been very firmly bolted to the concrete. I hope yours works for you. Speak to the manufacturer for some confirmation that is should hold up?
I'm currently building a greenhouse in Southern Alabama out of wood with a clear polycarbonate roof, using old wood windows and glass on the sides. Trying to get it done before spring.
In the middle of picking which one I want. And that just sorted it for me thanks. Glass it is just save a little longer. I have a home made grow house and can’t wait for a proper one. What size is your greenhouse

Hi. Eli. Just picked up this video, am I in a time warp or something. Like I said, just picked it up, July the 2nd and you are showing snow outside, or is the grouse messing with my mind. That's a great greenhouse, definitely green 😃, I noticed no shelves up, sorry for that. I've watched a few of the new incoming videos on my email address, whilst enjoying a dram or two of F G. after a frustrating day. nice to converse with, about nothing in particular. Good luck to you and kate, how did she get on with the phography the other day. 👴 that's me the ancient Britton. Regards Geoff Maddison
Ahhhhh yeah that's a older video.... March 2020 before I had shelves and before everything was growing that year 🙂 if you check below the videos, there is usually a rough note of when they were published. Or if you click on the channel homepage, there is a section there called uploads which is all the videos from most recent back.... I suspect Kate might be hooked on photography 🙂
Hi. Loved the video. I was thinking of switching from glass to polycarbonate but may stick with glass. I've bought a house with a greenhouse which is sturdy but the glass needs replacing and is attached with rivets. Were is the best place to get replacement glass and will the supplier drill them for me? Thanks
This is an older video now and polycarbonate greenhouses have come on a lot since then. These days you get greenhouses like the poly rub which are polycarbonate with a wooden frame which are specifically design to withstand the worst weather the UK sees.
I have been researching greenhouses in dreams of putting one up this year. Someone on another channel pulled out all of their poly panels and covered with greenhouse tape to seal up the ends from getting dusty/mouldy and kept them more secure inside. I wish I could afford glass. Maybe poly panels to start and replace with glass In a few years.
Absolutely go with poly to start with. That's what I did and it let's you get a feel for things and see if greenhouses are for you. I'd one hundred percent recommend taping over the ends. I wish someone had to me about that at the start, would have made the job of cleaning so much easier. I also used duct tape to secure as much as I could in way of the panels to the frames. Honestly though, if it hadn't been for the problems with the wind, my little polycarbonate greenhouse did the job. It kept me going in tomatoes and peppers for 6 years.
You can get tape to cover the open ends of the polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is far safer than glass if you have kids or pets. Your greenhouse is high in the range of glass greenhouse, multi-panel horticultural glass greenhouses, which are comparable with polycarbonate pricewise, I'd say are quite poorer than polycarbonate.
You know I think there is a similar thing with polycarbonate too, in terms of different qualities. I'm sureine would have been really low on the scale.
Love the video. So useful and informative. I've subscribed. I'll watch your other videos. Thanks. Question: Which Rhino Greenhouse do you have? So many to choose from. Thanks
Glad you are enjoying the videos :D My greenhouse details are in the description for the videos (because I get asked so often) :D but just a heads up, I don't necessarily recommend Rhino greenhouse. I've never owned another brand so I can't comment on which brands are the best ones. Rhinos are incredible expensive so I would say do some shopping around and when it's safe, maybe go look at some greenhouses so you can properly get an idea of what you are looking for and what the different brands offer. :D
I have an aluminium framed greenhouse with glass. It costs me £5.50 for a glass panel when one breaks, polycarbonate in the same size costs £4.50 so not a huge amount of difference. I do prefer glass though for its weight and durability. I believe polycarbonate flexes quite a bit in high winds which can cause it to work loose from the frame. Being in Wales I'd definitely stick to glass 😁
@@eliandkate it's definitely horticultural glass which is thinner than the normal glass you'd have in your windows. About 3mm I think and 610mm X 610mm standard size. My glazier gets it in large packs precut. Not sure if it's toughened or not. I needed to replace a piece of glass the other week near the apex that was 660mm and had to get that cut from standard float glass (same stuff as windows). That cost me £14.50 for a single piece it was much heavier and 4mm thick so the smaller glass clips I normally use wouldn't fit. Luckily I had some larger types too 😂
ah yeah.... sorry doh moment. Mine isn't traditional horticultural glass, it's a tiny bit thicker - and it's toughened safety glass - specific to my greenhouse brand. Sorry - not enough coffee yet - not firing on all cylinders
`artnoon from Falkirk, I hope you are both well. The other big negative with polycarbonate ir that it degrades over time and will end up quite brittle. The only place I use it is on my cold frames simply because its easier than using toughened glass. My greenhouse ir the same size as yours and it too is built like a tank .... dont know why I want to grow plants in a tank but hey ho such is life ... atb Jim
hello my greenhouse is very exposed and gets destroyed in the wind.. so i've been taking all the sheets out for autumn / winter each year. sick of doing this heh. so i'd like to build it strong. the frame is good. at the moment i have a glass roof and twin walled polycarbonate for the walls. however the polycarbonate is way too bendy in the wind, so once one bit of it blows out, the whole thing gets wrecked. so looking at options.. my question to you is how thick was the polycarbonate you had before? i'm in ireland, so similar climate to you. thanks for the vids.
Oh I totally feel your pain. I had single wall in the walls... Sounds weird saying that.... But that seemed to stand up fine to the wind. It was always the roof which was double wall, about 1cm the thick in total, which got blown out. And like you said, once one bit went. It drive me bloody nuts. I ended up gaffa taping it all in place. I used about 4 rolls of the stuff.
need to fix it up quickly.. would love it to last. dunno whether to spend a load on glass, or just get thick polycarbonate. here's an example of what i've woken up to. admitedly after a particularly bad storm. but still. these happen.. i.imgur.com/WVb9YZ1.jpg
Glazed with glass or poly? I'm struggling to understand how glass can be so much more expensive. Surely a lot of these greenhouse suppliers are ripping people off?
Been using cheap tunnels, lucky to get a couple of years out of them, was looking at the vida xl greenhouse polycarbonate was that the same as your one, thanks :)
We have a smallholding on the edge of the Peak District and it's a very exposed site. An early introduction to the possibilities here was to have one of our pole barns blow about 50 yards across the road and into a neighbour's field so we don't muck about when it comes to structures! We use 10mm polycarbonate attached with wood screws and mudguard washers at no more than 300mm intervals to heavy tanalised wooden frames for both the greenhouses and cold frames. There is no way the polycarbonate is going anywhere and much of ours is over 8 years old and still perfect. Unfortunately, there are so many aluminium greenhouses sold with 4mm polycarbonate held in by clips etc and with far too big panels they give the whole polycarbonate thing a bad name. Properly done it's great but my advice is to use 10mm and forget the thinner sizes.
This is true. It's all about how each element works together. There's no point in having a solidly designed and built frame (whether timber or aluminium) if you then skimp on the panes. At the end of the day you get what you pay for, so it's important that you do your homework and ask the right questions of each potential supplier. Personally I intend to look for 6-8mm UV-resistant clear polycarbonate in an aluminium frame (decisions based on my local conditions, and personal finances) but if I visited a supplier and wasn't allowed to thump or jiggle a pane in their show-home greenhouse, I'd walk away.
Hey Clive, welcome aboard :D The company we use don't do it anymore but you could try www.greenhousestaging.co.uk/folding-staging/ I bought from them for a friend and she is chuffed with it. Tell them we sent you :D
@@eliandkate thank for your reply, looking forward to getting my new greenhouse and getting started, will be watching all your videos and getting all the great tips many thanks Clive..
Thanks for sharing! I'm currently trying to weigh up between poly and glass. Maybe you could help me with your opinion? I've jst bought my first home this year, and always had a glass greenhouse back with my parents so I want me own now I've moved out. I love glass, and would defintely get myself a glass greenhouse. However, I don't know if this is my forever home, and I could be moving on in around 5 years. I don't know how easy a glass greenhouse would be to dismantle and safely move to a new property (in the same town). I'm wondering if I should get myself a glass greenhouse when I'm in that forever home (with the perfect south facing garden). What do you think? Would poly be a better option now, and then get glass when I'm in a property I know I'll be in for the very long term? Or am I over thinking it? For reference, I'm in the south east of the UK and don't have to worry about strong winds too often.
Hey Emma, if you haven't decided yet, here's something to know about poly - we got a Palram Canopia Oasis hexagonal one this year and one stand out thing about it is how noisy it is even in a light wind. It's like having three Rolf Harrises standing in the garden with wibble boards. You'll understand that if you're from the UK, otherwise just imagine a few guys out there practicing playing timpani. Anyway this was a bit of a bear to build but it looks great. I'm reasonably sure that the next time we get winds like we had at the start of 2022 here most of this thing will be on its way into orbit. We'll see. Would I buy it again? No, I'd get a normal looking greenhouse with glass. Good luck! 😃
@@ElJohnerino Thank you, that is very useful to know! I haven't got one yet, but the reserved spot for it is right below my bedroom window and I think I'd go mad with one wibble board, let alone 3! This pushes me towards glass a bit more!
Hi Eli, I am considered a greenhouse so am rewatching all your greenhouse videos. Could you tell me if the polycarbonate greenhouse you used to have had clip in panels or did they slide into grooves? Thank you. Regards to Kate. 🌱🥕
@@eliandkate Thanks Eli. I have been dithering about what size and type for 2 years now! Like you, I didn't want to go to expense in case I fell out with gardening but it looks like I am hooked! I currently have a plastic one - nightmare! The sides blow in the wind and knocked all my plants and seedlings off the shelves. All my seedlings, cauliflower, broccoli, salad leaves, beets, got destroyed in the gales the other day leading me to think I must now get round to a proper greenhouse. No more dithering. And no more cutting corners. I think I am going to get a glass one. Thanks again.
@jenkitching43 oh exciting stuff Jen….. There’s absolutely nothing like the feeling of a new greenhouse…. It’s like that whole magic of Christmas thing when we were kids
Hey, welcome to the channel. My greenhouse is actually one of the standard size 8ft by 6ft. It's ok for an average household but I always wish I had something bigger (I think everyone does). It looks more spacious on the videos because the lens gives a wide shot.
just a heads up, I'm going to do a video without the wide angle lens to specifically let everyone see what a 6by 8 greenhouse is like size wise. I'll put a note out on the community posts with a heads up before hand :)
Excellent idea as I'm really considering purchasing a proper greenhouse now. I really do enjoy your video Eli you have a great way of explaining yourself to novices like me. You should be proud of yourself and I hope you get as much enjoyment out of making the videos
Ha ha ha yes it's transparent the same as the rest of the greenhouse, however as you can see it was snowing that day...so the snow has settled on the roof.
I actually haven’t noticed any glare at all but I guess it’s like everything else, the situation will be specific. If you are friendly with them, I guess you could get them involved before you install. Test it out with a sheet of glass and ask them to tell you if there is glare as you stand in different areas ?
believe it or not, I did exactly what you asked me to with the subscribe button, bell and thumbs up. Humans are so easy to influence...I guess thats why they call youtubers influencers. Thanks for an informative and interesting video, really don't know where to start with my little greenhouse donated by my neighbours, never imagined the replacement glass would be so expensive. x
Oh no! There's nothing worse than a huge bill like that. Exciting that you got a greenhouse though... so what are your plans? Anything exciting? Not commenting at all on you being good and doing as you are told ha ha ha
@@eliandkate Well, I have to buy something, be it glass or plastic to make the greenhouse warm. I managed to kill 3 of my 4 tomato seedlings, I bought them from the garden centre on the day before lockdown started. So now I have one lonely tomato plant that I am determined to get some tomatoes out of. It's starting to look like I'm going to spend a considerable amount of cash on this little greenhouse so that I can have maybe 24 tomatoes in my salad bowl over the summer period. Growning veg can be b****y expensive sometimes.
Must confess not not knowing what that is sorry Worth noting that this is quite an old video and polycarbonate greenhouses have come on a whole lot since then
@@eliandkate Fair play, it's just some trim that goes over the frame, supposedly it helps to keep the water out. Currently clearing a space and digging out a footing for it. I have my heart set on an Elite Belmont 8x4 with all the bells and whistles
it's a bit difficult for me to say as I'm not there with you looking at it, but if it's like the sticky protective film you get on new items to stop them scratching then yeah, it'll come off eventually anyway so you might as well
The polycarbonate panel has film on both sides, the instructions say,One side is clear film, another side is white color film, need to remove 2 side films from all edges before installing the Polycarbonate sheets..Also says the clear film needs to be exposed to sunlight,my question is does it have effect on the plants growing and producing fruit?
Hey Joey, I don't work for Rhino so I'd recommend getting in touch with them but they've said before that they'd ship to a relative port where you could arrange further transport and installation. I'd recommend you get in touch with them and ask about your situation.
Actually things grew every bit as well as outdoors or under glass. Plants dont actually need UV light to photosynthesise (although there are beneficial to an extent). The positives of polycarbonate filtering UV is because like humans, too much UV can be damaging. If UV filtering is a factor in your decision ( say maybe you live somewhere very sunny) then polycarbonate is certainly a lot cheaper than having to buy shading for your greenhouse on top of the expense of the actual greenhouse.
I am in New Zealand and I had 2 Edenlite glasshouses in the past. I loved them but during a storm, my second one lost its roof trusses and the glass panes crashed to the floor. Thankfully no one was in the glasshouse at the time. The insurers replaced it with a twin-walled polycarbonate Rion greenhouse. It stays much warmer in the evening and I am able to keep growing tomatoes right through winter. No problems growing the fruits and veggies I want to eat.

As a 4th generation Canadian Scot, I am subbing just to hear more of that soul-soothing brogue....and because I'm about to embark on my own greenhouse journey.
Well I’m chuffed to have you with us wee yin 😍😍😍😍
Just love listening to you. The accent is so darned cute. I got a tickle from it! I prefer the glass! Pretty greenhouse you have!1
Nice chat on pros and cons. You also had 9 kinds of weather in one video!
Ha ha ha yup the weather is very changeable in Scotland… sunshine, rain, snow, wind all in a couple of hours is not unusual 😂
Wow it’s astonishing that you could get a glass greenhouse for that price. Not here in the US
Woah that is expensive, I’m guessing it’s going to be a belter though
Excellent video, you answered all my questions
Hurrah 😀😀😀
I have a wooden polycarbonate green house. As the panels age, I will be trying to replace them with glass. It does do the job I want it to do and has for the last four years I've had it though. I hope to replace the roof panels at the end of this growing year, wish me luck!
They so do. I had mine for 6 years and my only complaint was it just didn’t cope with our windy garden. But it churned out tomatoes and peppers and all sorts 😀😀😀
Hello from Kentucky we are having our first warm day of the year
Oh lucky you. So what do you consider a warm day? We were quite happy yesterday afternoon when we hit 7C with a wee bit of sun.... a few hours later we were in a blizzard. Sigh...
Thanks for the practical video. I have never owned a greenhouse and am doing loads of research. The information you provide helps me a lot. I loved BEFORE YOU BUY A GREENHOUSE. I wish I could purchase a Rhino but they aren't available in the USA. I love your accent!
I bet you'll find a US company making greenhouses that are just as good :D
Thank you for sharing your experience, i am going to use your experience in my project
Hope it helps
Seriously good vid ladies, ta!!!!! It's obvious that you just love gardening and sharing your knowledge...thanks again, from the windy heights of Laois, Ireland xx

Are you going through our back catalogue on a rainy day Anthony?
@@eliandkate 🤣🤣Wouldn't ya think!!!!🤣🤣 but I never knew that this greenhouse buying thing is sooooo complicated...but thanks to your down to earth realnesss (sorry Rupaul!!), I'm learning!!! And glass seems to be the way for us...fingers crossed!!
thank you very informative been saving for a green house for a while now please keep the videos coming
Oh exciting gobblygooke. It's a big purchase but it does open up so many opportunities for your gardening.
Thanks for your video, I’m currently wanting to invest in a greenhouse, I’m in North Jutland Denmark, but coming from Florida I’ve never needed one before, so research begins! Thanks for your help.
Research is the fun part
Wow that's a really nice looking greenhouse. You really do nice up keep. Cheers!
Thanking yer kindly. 😀
Thank you! Very informative. I appreciate the time you put into making this video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Only just watched this , as thinking of getting some sort of a greenhouse either this year or next year & this has been really helpful . Sounds like a glass greenhouse is so much better . Fab video ☺️
There have been a lot of changes to greenhouses since I made this video, these days you get some brilliant polycarbonate greenhouses
@@eliandkate I do think Glass Greenhouses last better , when I think my Dad has had his for over 40 years now & after watching some other videos , as well as yours , the polycarbonate really doesnt sound as promising lol
Right -I'm going for glass haha thank you x
Ha ha ha
It’s been a few years since this video and polycarbonate greenhouses have come on leaps and bounds.
Oh good luck, that will be awesome!!
great video, loved it thanks very much have subscribed! now just got to choose a greenhouse...
Good luck. The new greenhouse is one if the most exciting bits of gardening
😀
Such a helpful video!! Thank you so so much!!
In the middle of picking which one I want. And that just sorted it for me thanks. Glass it is just save a little longer. I have a home made grow house and can’t wait for a proper one. What size is your greenhouse
My greenhouse is quite small, just 6ft wide and 8ft long
Much smaller in real life than it looks on camera
Hello . Lovely greenhouse. I'm thinking of a halls 6x10 with toughened glass. I shall line it with bubble wrap to keep the heat in . What type of heating do you use . Thanks Chris.
Hi Chris,
I don't use any heating. My greenhouse is au natural!
Interesting that in 2024 (June) the Rhino greenhouse in olive like yours starts at £1,999. Crazy inflation in last 4 years. Thanks for your very helpful videos.
Yeah that quick a price increase. About 700 pounds in about 6 years.
Although, the price of everything has risen a lot
@@MikeB_UK halls make’s really nice models. After watching this video I’m going for Hall Popar 8ftx6ft with toughened glass in black colour and it will cost me around 700£😁
Great video, really informative - thanks very much! Very impressed you had the courage to do a call to action at the end as well, earned my sub for bravery!

@@eliandkate you're very natural in front of the camera and it doesn't feel forced or awkward so go for it!

Hi.
Very helpful video! thanks Eli!
Glad to help
Loved this, so helpful for a newbie on the fence so to speak. Thanks for sharing your experience, stay safe 🌱 x
Glad it was useful. It's always handy to find out about other people's experiences
This was very helpful. Generally how much snow do you get and how did the poly hold up with snow?
Hey Robin, We don't get a lot of snow at all. We're in the vast so it's generally wind and rain we get. Very little snow 😀😀😀
Great video, new to this, you can answered every question - invest in a glass greenhouse
Ha ha ha if your budget allows
Love the video. So useful and informative. I've subscribed. I'll watch your other videos. Thanks. Question: Which Rhino Greenhouse do you have? So many to choose from. Thanks
Glad you are enjoying the videos :D
My greenhouse details are in the description for the videos (because I get asked so often) :D but just a heads up, I don't necessarily recommend Rhino greenhouse.
Being in Wales I'd definitely stick to glass 😁
jeez that's cheap glass :D
I'm guessing it's not the toughened horticultural stuff?
My greenhouse ir the same size as yours and it too is built like a tank .... dont know why I want to grow plants in a tank but hey ho such is life ... atb Jim
I think that's probably the best use for a tank
@@eliandkate Yes but it would keep my garden plans on track!! lol
hello
my greenhouse is very exposed and gets destroyed in the wind.. so i've been taking all the sheets out for autumn / winter each year. sick of doing this heh. so i'd like to build it strong. the frame is good. at the moment i have a glass roof and twin walled polycarbonate for the walls. however the polycarbonate is way too bendy in the wind, so once one bit of it blows out, the whole thing gets wrecked. so looking at options.. my question to you is how thick was the polycarbonate you had before?
i'm in ireland, so similar climate to you.
thanks for the vids.
I used about 4 rolls of the stuff.
need to fix it up quickly.. would love it to last. dunno whether to spend a load on glass, or just get thick polycarbonate. here's an example of what i've woken up to. admitedly after a particularly bad storm. but still. these happen.. i.imgur.com/WVb9YZ1.jpg
oh god, that's horrible!!!
Hi Can ask what are the dimensions of that greenhouse in the video please?
6ft by 8ft
Warning, as I keep saying in videos, it looks much bigger on camera
@@eliandkate ok thanks
I just glazed a whole 8x6 it was £3 a panel n cost £99 for the whole greenhouse which I got for nothing so at £3 a panel it was cheap as chips
Hmmm sorry I've never heard of that one.

Thanks you for this video it was exactly what I was looking for 🙂
Glad it’s useful
What is your roof made of?
The greenhouse roof is polycarbonate the same as the rest of the greenhouse. Those panels are corrugated and have a protective UV coating.
Same here. I put up with my 10x12 poly greenhouse for 9 years. Building a glass greenhouse this summer. I will NEVER use poly again
Good luck with the glass greenhouse build. An exciting wee project for summer.

Great video thanks.
Glad you liked it Greg!
So which website did u buy it from and what is your greenhouse called???
ha ha ha My greenhouse is called Olive because the paint colour is called Tuscan Olive :) It's from a company in Norfolk called Rhino.
Where did you get your greenhouse please?
Maybe worth noting that polycarbonate greenhouses have come on a huge amount since this video was made and you get some really great ones now.
Polyvinyl cuts down the ultra violet light that plants depend on so twin wall poly will keep warmer than glass but won’t encourage growth .
Hi Eli, I am considered a greenhouse so am rewatching all your greenhouse videos. Could you tell me if the polycarbonate greenhouse you used to have had clip in panels or did they slide into grooves? Thank you. Regards to Kate. 🌱🥕
Hey Kate
Mine was clips but it was a long time again now and from what I’ve seen, polycarbonate greenhouses have drastically improved since then
@@eliandkate Thanks Eli.
@jenkitching43 oh exciting stuff Jen…..
There’s absolutely nothing like the feeling of a new greenhouse…. It’s like that whole magic of Christmas thing when we were kids
Very informative thank you
This vid is a wee bit out of date now Colin. There are a lot of good polycarbonate greenhouses out there now

ah that is phormium

Hi Eli I'm a new sub really enjoy your channel kudos. Can I ask what size is the glasshouse you have it looks like you have loads of room for growing
This has been my first year of proper vegetable growing and I have really enjoyed it this year so thinking of the upgrade to a real glasshouse. I really do enjoy your video Eli you have a great way of explaining yourself to novices like me. You should be proud of yourself and I hope you get as much enjoyment out of making the videos
awwwww thanks
Your Glass GreenHouse top doesn't seems transparent. Please explain .
Ha ha ha yes it's transparent the same as the rest of the greenhouse, however as you can see it was snowing that day...so the snow has settled on the roof.
Thanks.
My neighbors are up on a hill and concerned about glare coming off glass. How does glass compare to polycarbonate with respect to glare?
I actually haven’t noticed any glare at all but I guess it’s like everything else, the situation will be specific. If you are friendly with them, I guess you could get them involved before you install. Test it out with a sheet of glass and ask them to tell you if there is glare as you stand in different areas ?
Hi. Can I ask where you buy your polycarbonate sheets? £10 sounds very cheap. Thanks.
It was from our local BandQ but this was a few years ago now, I very much doubt they’d be that price now. 🥲

@@eliandkate Well, I have to buy something, be it glass or plastic to make the greenhouse warm. So now I have one lonely tomato plant that I am determined to get some tomatoes out of. It's starting to look like I'm going to spend a considerable amount of cash on this little greenhouse so that I can have maybe 24 tomatoes in my salad bowl over the summer period. @@eliandkate Fair play, it's just some trim that goes over the frame, supposedly it helps to keep the water out.
I am complete novice in the process of setting about installing my first greenhouse, so I've been spending some time watching as many videos on the subject I can find and reading up on whatever I can (for free). Currently clearing a space and digging out a footing for it.
I have my heart set on an Elite Belmont 8x4 with all the bells and whistles
I think you’re doing it right…. Research away and get as much info as possible…. It’ll make a difference 😍😍😍
Does the plastic film on the polycarbonate panel on the greenhouse have to be removed?
it's a bit difficult for me to say as I'm not there with you looking at it, but if it's like the sticky protective film you get on new items to stop them scratching then yeah, it'll come off eventually anyway so you might as well
The polycarbonate panel has film on both sides, the instructions say,One side is clear film, another side is white color film, need to remove 2 side films from all edges before installing the Polycarbonate sheets..Also says the clear film needs to be exposed to sunlight,my question is does it have effect on the plants growing and producing fruit?
afraid I can't say. You'd be better checking with the suppliers.

How well do plants grow under polycarbonate? it naturally blocks about 98% of UV.
@@eliandkate Thank You. Im thinking of building a shelter/greenhouse using polycarbonate corrugated roofing.
ohhh. good luck! That will be awesome.
No problems growing the fruits and veggies I want to eat.
awesome that they were replaced easily enough - we don't need the stress of loosing a greenhouse :)
