This is the best review I have ever watched. So thorough. I’ve had the Blink XT2 since November of last year. I bought a third one two months ago without realizing it was the new Blink Outdoor and the mini. Just this morning my free cloud trial ended. I am now replacing my XT2 models with the newer one since I will be switching to local storage. I wanted to add. As of today that I have noticed. Local storage is viewable in the app. It takes a little to load but not very long as it is pulling from the usb. This makes me happy. If you delete the footage in the app, it will still be on the usb until you delete it there. And yes if you do not have a subscription the clip backup is not there. It will then show you the cameras that can use the local storage.

Thank very much for doing a "hands on" review of the Blink system ... Your review is so much better than any that I've found on this product. Very informative and the distance increments are very much appreciated. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for these videos! The work you've put into researching and meticulously testing each of these cameras is impressive, and was incredibly helpful in making a decision on the best option for our home.

Just wanted to let you know that I have enjoyed your reviews more than anyone else's. You go into detail about all the features, how to use them, and even demonstrate their use. Everyone else just list and compares features--the viewer never sees for himself what is going on, just hears the canned review at the end. My only suggestions: 1) Also add review of computer usage to access the features and videos of the cameras; other (written) reviews I have seen note that some manufacturers have slower, web-based connections that make computer use less than satisfactory, but I would prefer that interface for the larger image you would have access to. 2) Also would be interested in how cellphones or computers handle multiple cameras as one time. Otherwise, excellent job and high marks, and this is coming from a recently retired computer technician who has provided technical support for major clients (Apple, Morgan Stanley, NYC, U.N.).
Found this really helpful and recommend your video to anyone new to the Blink family. Very thorough and informative review with great instructions especially for outdoor installs. It's more accurate to view the Blink Outdoor subscription as optional backup of the video files to offsite cloud storage. This IS a benefit in the event the sync module is stolen or destroyed before the video files can be backed up to other local storage. The USB doesn't need to be moved to a PC or similar to download to local storage back up. Each video file can be downloaded to the mobile device's own storage by pressing the download symbol (down pointing arrow) while viewing each video. Then the video files can be shared (uploaded) from the mobile device to other device storage via email, text, NFC, etc. Or simply share the video files immediately while viewing them.

Blink users in the forums have long ago suggested the app uses a ring tone that will blair loudly and continuously until the user terminates it (like alarm clock apps). - The video components of the camera is the most fragile part and will permanently fail if the unit is subject to impact or force (eg, when simply trying to force the camera onto one of the mounts). Other parts of the camera such as IR, motion detection, audio are very robust. The camera has failed when the app says "No live feed" and (IIRC) "No thumbnail" error messages. - Continuously delete unnecessary videos (pretty much all of them) to save on cloud and thumb drive storage. More importantly, in the event of intrusion, much easier to find the pertinent videos if very few of them to rummage through. - My one tech support session to Blink went well. The tech reps can run remote diagnostics of the Blink system and components. The tech rep sent me a replacement cam and return shipping label under warranty for the failed one. However, he wouldn't also replace the camera that was destroyed by an intruder citing intentionally damaged products aren't covered by warranty. - Overall, Blink is a very good system for its INTENDED market (affordable, quick and easy install, adequate performance). Much better performance such as wired 4K NVR can be acquired at higher cost, effort, and time.
@Draco Savage Yes, the cameras' microphones pick up sounds loud and clear both from live feed or video file playback. You can clearly hear insects, small animals, people talking, etc. Motion detection is what first alerts you via the Blink app, not sounds outside. Then open either live feed or file playback to see and hear the A/V.

I guess I will buy XT2s while it's still in stock. I got a 2 pack just to try it out. I have been using it for a month now and it is working great for what I need it for. If they will start turning blink into a subscription based security system, they could have at least made major improvements from the XT2s and not omit the free storage. Or even better, maybe came up with an alarm system or sirens to integrate with it. It is difficult to justify paying for a subscription when it kinda is a stepdown from XT2s at this point.

I just bought a 2-camera Blink system the other day and one thing that was so frustrating was the attachment fitting to the back of the camera. It took me forever to snap the base on and this was for both cameras - I was worried that I'd damage the front of the camera while pressing down. Once it finally attached, subsequent attempts were much easier. One other issue I'm having is with the video playback - the lighting on the video shifts mid way through to a different intensity (light areas become darker, colors get muted, etc.,). Doesn't happen to all video playbacks but enough to annoy me. Overall, though, quality is better than past cameras I've tried and the distortion is minimal. We'll see how it plays out going forward.

Excellent review and intricate, you should receive some kind of gratitude from the manufacturer for this excellent review which has no doubt helped with promoting this product! Just one question I'd like to know...can you connect more than one phone to be alerted with just one camera?
Thank you for this thorough review. Amazon had just placed these on Prime exclusive deals at £55 (approx $76) each so many in the UK will be interested in this review.
Hi LifeHackster, I opened a support ticket with Blink and got the following answers from them: Q: If I choose NOT to subscribe to Cloud Storage for the new Indoor or Outdoor camera, will I still be able to record video clips into my Local Storage? If there is no active subscription, am I still able to record Indoor/Outdoor camera video into Local Storage? A: Thank you for contacting blink technical support, Regarding your question about the Sync Module 2 there is an option that the videos will be first stored on the local storage or USB before it will be uploaded to the cloud storage every 24 hours so that means if there is a video you want to save all you need to do is connect the USB device to your computer and import the file to your computer storage before it gets uploaded to your cloud storage if you are subscribed to cloud storage. Yes you can use local or USB storage as your main storage if you don't want to subscribe in the cloud storage. Q. If I choose to store videos first in Local Storage, will I be able to browse them in the Blink App before they get uploaded to cloud storage (which may take up to 24 hrs), or is the only way to view them by disconnecting the USB drive and plugging it into my computer? A: Regarding your question, Yes you can view them on your blink app, The option of you connection your USB local storage to a computer is you may copy or transfer the videos to your computer.
I really hope that will be the case... when I was checking the features.. it made me remember the Arlo Ultras...the same scenario...and when they updated... you can view it from the app but you need to be connected on the same network as their base station.. which is basically, you can only view it when you are at home... I really hope Blink will follow the statement they made in the box of the camera.
any idea how much is stored locally on a drive? is it only 24 hours at a time? or if i go on vacation can i go back and view footage over the last week or so? thanks for any info! im sick of everything being subscription based.
Just had to pause the video. If blink just actually added monthly subscription they are dead. That’s a BIG reason why they’re popular. Lol. Whoever inside blink suggested this just killed the company.
@Richardo Diaz, although margins may be low, they are selling a product. If a company develops a product, it is their responsibility to make sure it makes a profit. Unless their entire plan is to make profit from subscriptions. So, it's not about being free. People want the cameras and to be mostly done with the camera maker after that point. Imagine buying a TV only to have to pay the manufacturer to use it. It's enough to have to pay for cable, or any other service providers. I avoid products that want me to pay out forever. Especially something like this.
@@finesse1570, Amazon having money has nothing to do with it. Greed is when a company wants more than something is worth. Amazon is in it for money. Though I avoid subscription anything. I don't need nor want cloud based anything. I rather keep it local and configure my own setup.
Keep up the great work man love the vid nobody goes as in depth as you do in as little time, only one little suggestion maybe explain what some setting mean more and state ur concise opinion a little more you’ll have more subs in no time keep it up
Hi. May I ask the speed of your wifi connection at home? Also, what is the range or acceptable distance of the outdoor camera to the sync module? Thanks.
Any feedback on this battery-wise? Specifically interested in how long the batteries last on a medium traffic area with 2-3 motion alerts a day with some variability....
Battery life is terrible. My XT2 camera lithium batteries that were included only lasted 3 months with motion detection in high traffic areas. I ended up buying 16ft micro SD cables and plugging them into the back of the camera which powered it 24/7
I just bought the new blink and will be returning it once it arrives. Just saw this video and found out that there's a monthly subscription now. I thought the subscription plan was for the Blink mini only. Blink is going to lose a lot of customers with the whole monthly subscription plan. The only reason they compete with Ring is because of their free cloud storage.
No offense but it’s only 3 dollar a month subscription or 30 a year for 1 camera or 100 a year for up to 10 camera. It’s not that expensive. Let’s be realistic here, on average u probably spend more on coffee annually. If u can’t even afford that small amount of subscription then u shouldn’t be buying this :/
@@DesperationGaming For what I need them, I think that they are more than enough. I wanted something that was inexpensive and was easy to set up. The picture is clear and records every spot that I need it to record. It's not going to be any 4k, but it's also not no graining distorted quality. Also the battery is still holding, and it's the batteries that came in the box.
I am on the fence about this product. I love the size. It definitely has good picture during the day, however the IR seems to be lacking even on high. However that can be corrected with some minimal motion lighting. The other issue is, if I cannot check the local storage from my phone, this is a 100% no go for me. It is between this camera and the Eufy 2 Pro.
You can’t? I skipped around some parts. I just got the 5 camera set in the mail today. I set it up on my phone but I’ll install them tomorrow. I did test one camera and the video is still saved in the app. Is that what you mean?
If this has the same integration with Ring that Ring cameras do, and the subscriptions were interchangeable, I'd see this as an option, but for a separate cost I just don't see it as worth it.
Having a number of Blink outdoor cameras I have found a lot of problems related to the sync module and the camera combo. The Blink design team decided to dumb down the camera ( to save money/ battery life? ) They put the smarts in the sync 2 device the gets your configuration from your phone app and then updates the camera. Why did they have make this so complicated. When you have a problem you need to figure out what component is the problem. Both devices require a strong Wi-Fi signal to work. It can and is very frustrating trying to make it work. Because it’s battery powered it needs to wake up from sleep mode, this saves battery life. When it finds motion it will wake up and start recording video. This takes time so you miss out on what ever it sensed. Also calling up the camera for a live video takes forever. Seconds go by before you get a live stream. Motion detection is very spotty and sometimes doesn’t even record anything. Over all I would recommend a different outdoor camera. Don’t buy this camera! You will thank me I’m sure. But The Blink mini does not require a sync module to function it uses Wi-Fi only. Runs off AC. It will record a much longer video clip the camera will come on it a second with no delay. I do recommend the Blink mini. The ones I have work great 👍🏼
Thanks for the review of these 2 models! Getting ready to go see which it is my local Costco has on sale right now. The 5 cam system for $250 sounds reasonable for our limited use. Now I'm somewhat familiar with features to look for. Thanks again! 👍🏻 🤜🏻💥🤛🏻
Hi... what would your recommended if im looking for indoor/outdoor camera system that allows me to use them for continuous recording... cloud or/and local video storage... but it also needs to work through window (even if i have to sacrifice motion detection as long is continuous recording)....thk you
Watch my “through the glass window setup” videos..I have several of them and you can use the Wyze Cam or Eufy indoor cams and set it to record continuously.
I want to continuously view on my camera and not have a Button that I have to push every 30 seconds And more than 5 minute viewing. Can this be done with these cameras
I just got new 5 Blinks indoor cameras no difference in video quality and sounds with the Blink XT2. Also, it takes 15 sec-to 35 sec to start a live video.
anyone who pays storage for videos and photos is a moron, your right; it is not worth it even if it was 50 cents a month. Buts its not it is $10.00 a month, $120 a year $480 for 4 years, oh yes add the tax too. Thats unethical
Also LifeHackster, have you noticed if your existing Blink (original, XT or XT2) cameras becoming less responsive in the past 2-3 months? I'm experiencing that with mine.
It's not batteries. For a period of time, roughly around mid 2020 to early 2021, the Blink service was just screwed up and I was getting inconsistent recordings and unresponsive cameras. That coincidentally happened to be around the time they were trying to implement paid subscription service. Now all my cameras are working well again, and I did not change anything in my setup.
Amazon released this new camera a week after I had bought, and installed, the five pack of cameras at my house. Kind of ticked me off, especially when I read that the new sync module can't be used for the older models. If I could trade all of my cameras and modules in to get the newer ones (I bought a three pack before the five pack), then I'll do that.
I think you will be better off with your Blink XT2's...you will still have the free cloud recording. If you have an account before April 15... then you will get the most out of the new version like the free cloud recording and back up to a thumb drive... after that, you will need to have a subscription.
The echo show 5 works with the blink camera system. It’s easy to connect all your cameras to the echo show. You can easily ask Alexa to show you any live view from any blink cameras
$3 per month per camera?! Pass! But I will say that Blink's settings have many more options than Wyze. I hate the glossy finish too. When will companies just stop selling us finger print magnet, scratch attraction glossy finishes?

Wow, thank you, simply stated. The best on youtube.
One of the very best reviews I've ever seen on a product.
Kudos to you 👏
Dude, you nailed this review!! You literally answered all my questions lol I was ehh about it at first but after this, it’s arriving tomorrow 👏🏼👏🏼 😂 you earned my sub 🙏🏼
Excellent review and intricate, you should receive some kind of gratitude from the manufacturer for this excellent review which has no doubt helped with promoting this product! Just one question I'd like to know...can you connect more than one phone to be alerted with just one camera?
I think Eufy is good at listening to customer feedback and making corrections
Yup same but the blink is so good and Eufy is good to
True...
Eufy's video compression is still horrible and that hasn't been updated since their start. I can't give them props for anything until that's fixed.
This review is on par with some of the best reviews I have ever seen. I see 300+ down votes on this review. I wonder what the 300+ people didn't like.
Have you done a comparison with the Wyze cameras and if so, which do you prefer and why? Thanks.
Thank you for this thorough review. Amazon had just placed these on Prime exclusive deals at £55 (approx $76) each so many in the UK will be interested in this review.
That's why I am here haha I have a couple of blink minis one faces outside, I'm wondering should is this a better choice
Hi LifeHackster, I opened a support ticket with Blink and got the following answers from them:
Q: If I choose NOT to subscribe to Cloud Storage for the new Indoor or Outdoor camera, will I still be able to record video clips into my Local Storage?
Finesse definetely they are crazy
Everybody except for Eufy are going subscription based...
Richardo Diaz theyre an amazon company lol oh they got money they just greedy
Excellent review! I've been on the fence on the new outdoor camera and this video has helped make my decision. Thanks!
This was so helpful! I just ordered 3 of these...just wondering how far away the module can be from the cameras? Thanks again!
I have the same question! Please let us know!
Yer Hot Buttercup, does that answer your question..
Thanks.
This is an incredibly thorough video. Thanks!
I ended up buying 16ft micro SD cables and plugging them into the back of the camera which powered it 24/7
Wow you are so thorough. THank you so much. definitely a thumbs up for me!
So what are your top 3 recommendations for outdoor wireless cameras? Thanks.
Solid review man I loved the ft test
I just bought the new blink and will be returning it once it arrives. Just saw this video and found out that there's a monthly subscription now. I thought the subscription plan was for the Blink mini only. Blink is going to lose a lot of customers with the whole monthly subscription plan. The only reason they compete with Ring is because of their free cloud storage.
No offense but it’s only 3 dollar a month subscription or 30 a year for 1 camera or 100 a year for up to 10 camera. It’s not that expensive. Let’s be realistic here, on average u probably spend more on coffee annually. If u can’t even afford that small amount of subscription then u shouldn’t be buying this :/
@@JY-ds5mo none taken. I would have subscribed but I already had a ring doorbell at the time.
Excellent, thorough, video! Thank you very much.I’m off to setup my system.
Always love your videos. Really info rich, and helps figure out what to get and what to avoid.
Thank you.
Thank you for this amazing review. I just purchased the 3 camera outdoor set. I will be testing it out and seeing how well they function for my home.
You are welcome.
How is it??
@@rickschwab8270I’m confused about what he said myself. 🤔🤷♂️
What do you mean?
Thank you as you made things so much easier.
You didn't say anything about the range of the camera from the sync module.
Great tutorial , brief description , honest opinion. Good stuff
Thanks.
If this has the same integration with Ring that Ring cameras do, and the subscriptions were interchangeable, I'd see this as an option, but for a separate cost I just don't see it as worth it.
It is a separate cost..
Tell me
@liz Exactly.
@@LifeHackster hello, I have a semi truck and I would like to put a camera inside my dry van trailer is there a wireless camera you can recommend?
A painless yet thorough review. Best out there. Thanks. Subscribed.
I appreciate it.
Can't wait to see when you review Ring's Always Home indoor drone cam!
cameraz99 that thing is so creepy
It's a dumb idea. You'll have to leave all your doors open. Which makes it harder to heat or cool rooms and is also a fire hazard.
Don't review that shit man.
But
The Blink mini does not require a sync module to function it uses Wi-Fi only.
Runs off AC. It will record a much longer video clip the camera will come on it a second with no delay.
I do recommend the Blink mini. The ones I have work great 👍🏼
Love my blink. Got a notification at 4 am showing a deer eating my bush I planted. I scared him away with the voice feature
Nice and thorough review my man, so much appreciated. Cheers
Thanks for the review of these 2 models! Getting ready to go see which it is my local Costco has on sale right now. The 5 cam system for $250 sounds reasonable for our limited use. Now I'm somewhat familiar with features to look for. Thanks again! 👍🏻 🤜🏻💥🤛🏻
You Sir, know how to make a review. I'm impressed. Subscribed. 💪🤜
If this pushes down XT2 pricing it's a win.
Yes.. and there is really no updates on the features.. so the XT2 is going to be a better buy..well..until their stock runs out..
I believe the Xt2 is not capable of saving on the local sd card of the new module2 though.
Robert yes, but you will still get the free cloud recording of the XT2s
@@LifeHackster not if you purchase now.
Amazing review...So in depth video.great job!!! Definitely getting a follow my friend.
Hi... what would your recommended if im looking for indoor/outdoor camera system that allows me to use them for continuous recording... cloud or/and local video storage... but it also needs to work through window (even if i have to sacrifice motion detection as long is continuous recording)....thk you
Watch my “through the glass window setup” videos..I have several of them and you can use the Wyze Cam or Eufy indoor cams and set it to record continuously.
I want to continuously view on my camera and not have a Button that I have to push every 30 seconds And more than 5 minute viewing. Can this be done with these cameras
@@rhondafrederick9151 wyze V3 cameras are amazing for the low price.
I agree about the gloss finish, draws your attention to it.
@@2bdefacto it’s actually $4 a month or $48 a year
Thank you for this video, definitely I go with blink cameras
This new blink beats the wyze out door hands down!
Yes..I agree..
Great job on the review, really appreciate the thorough coverage
The Wyze Outdoor camera, that's my guess! Saw your review on that camera and it (the camera) wasn't very good in my opinion...
Sorry not the WCO ... it has other problems.. but the answer is the Arlo Ultra (somebody answered already).
Arlo Pro is my answer. Love your videos. Paul from Louisiana.
Sorry not the Arlo Pro...it was the Ultras.... Thanks.
Also LifeHackster, have you noticed if your existing Blink (original, XT or XT2) cameras becoming less responsive in the past 2-3 months? I'm experiencing that with mine.
I haven't noticed anything on my cameras..
Perhaps the batteries are starting to run down?
It's not batteries. For a period of time, roughly around mid 2020 to early 2021, the Blink service was just screwed up and I was getting inconsistent recordings and unresponsive cameras. That coincidentally happened to be around the time they were trying to implement paid subscription service. Now all my cameras are working well again, and I did not change anything in my setup.
You just couldn't have done a better video! Great review! Thanks
So helpful and meticulous review! Thank you so much for this! I love that you showed what it looks and sounds like. Keep up the good work!
Greetings. I'd like to know more about the Echo 5 show.
The echo show 5 works with the blink camera system. It’s easy to connect all your cameras to the echo show. You can easily ask Alexa to show you any live view from any blink cameras
The channel creator liked the comment but never responded to the question, lol.
No sub from me.
I think this was a good review. Very useful information. Thank you.
$3 per month per camera?! Pass! But I will say that Blink's settings have many more options than Wyze. I hate the glossy finish too. When will companies just stop selling us finger print magnet, scratch attraction glossy finishes?
I know... I don't know the reasoning why they made this one glossy... the older matted finish were fine..
Thanks for the video, very thorough product testing and assessment. super helpful!

This video was excellent. Thank you.
I see no difference in video quality with the Blink XT2
They are the same..daytime and at night.
