that's like saying cavemen got by just fine without a microwave. We didn't NEED it before, but evolution demands it. Basic principal. It's your property. You should be able to have it on you. If you take it out during class thats a different story
#Exactly Because the limits on device use has to start at home because the parents are a child's first teacher. And someway or another whatever a child is used to at home is going to someway or another spill over into the school that they go to.
#Exactly @@kamikazekid94 . But everyone wants to make a big spectacle over student device use in school like we have to stop this or it is the end of the world type thing.
I understand both arguments. If I were a teacher, it would be impossible teach with this distraction. However, we live in a crazy time with not only mass shooters but teachers being assaulted by students and students being assaulted by teachers. They are all over YT because students had cellphones. If I were a parent, I would want my child to have access to cellphone. I don't have an answer but I would think parents and teachers should be able to understand where the other one is coming from.
I think at that point, if you cannot trust a teacher or a school, you ought to either have your kids moved or a different classroom or different school, or homeschool if you’re that concerned! That or you advocate having public cameras in classrooms for surveillance sake.
As a millennial who graduated high school in 2008; we didn't have smartphones back then but did have cellphones still. But we weren't allow to have them out in class and if we did we would have them taken away til the end of the day and have to go back and get it from the teacher at the end of the day. Back before cellphones we would get called to the office if an emergency call was made. People are such cry babies these days including the parents.
I graduated in 2008 as well. I had a razor up until my sophomore year of college. Only a few students had the I phone 1. It was the rich students. Today’s kids are born with smart in their hands. I agree with this. If I had to make a call I’d go to the office
I graduated high school when smart phones were starting to takeoff. For half of my years in school, I didn’t have a mobile phone at all. But when I got one, it was either a flip phone or a basic phone for the purpose of only making emergency calls to parents and things like that. The same applied here that if we got caught using our phones in the classroom, it would be taken away from us until the end of the day. Before then, if parents needed to be contacted, they would be contacted through the school’s main office. And in some instances, you could only hope that they would be contacted because sometimes they would never contact them despite you really needing them for whatever reason.
They didn't know their kids are being engineered to be robots at school. Parents can certainly need their kids at points in the day. You need to coordinate and God forbid, there could be serious emergencies. Theres only so many things a school can communicate over a 12th century intercom
As a millennial, these parents clearly don’t care about quality education and the learning environment. Phones are a clear distraction. Just leave the phones in cubby pockets at the door during class. It’s not that hard.
It's totally less distracting to instead be looking around at all the other teenagers that you may be attracted to. Or looking out the window. Or at magazines. Or doodling. Or a million other things it would be if it weren't phones. Bullying happens in person, too. Unrealistic comparisons still happen because someone has much better skill with makeup and hair and can spend more money on fashion. And stopping access in school doesn't stop it everywhere else. Until schools are small enough to keep track of students and the excess of guns is taken away from the public and cops are caring instead of bullies themselves, I don't think we should force cell phones out. Some kids need them for safety. Some need them for comfort. Some need them for contacting friends for support when they don't fit in locally. There are as many good things as bad. Leaving phones out of your possession just increases the chance of them being stolen. And does nothing to offer help if a fight breaks out, someone's being bullied, a gunman arrives, etc. Cell phones are the least of our problems.
Yes teachers are quitting because they can't get kids to put the dang phones down to learn anything. Then they try to take it away and students are physically fighting 4 the phone! It's crazy. Soon we won't have teachers left to teach. I saw some schools removed mirrors in the bathroom because kids were in there filming videos. Oh and not to mention all the bullying being done through social media! Smh. These kids aren't using the phones 4 help during bullying. Their filming so they can post it for views!
I really don’t agree with banning cellphones in schools because if that kid isn’t able to reach out to their parents during a school shooting, that is a terrible thing. I saw a sign on the road the other day that said “This could be your last text”. And now that I think about it, kids need their cellphones just in case something bad happens, and if they need to text their parents just in case, and that will be the last words that kid texts on their phones. In this case, this is unacceptable to ban cellphones in classrooms.
I know where you coming from, but but because of a bunch of bad apples that didn't put their cell phones away during class time and use them at inappropriate times of day, it has to get banned for everyone. It sucks, but that's what happens when people don't take responsibility for their actions.
You can literally have them get a smartwatch for location tracking and contacting them for that. A smartphone is not necessary, nor ideal for that situation as it can put your kid and their peers in danger.
I am not a parent and thank God because this would just not fly with me. If I'm the one that's paying that phone bill, then I'm going to be the one deciding when and where and how my child would have access to it. If they wanted to try and tell me no, then I would welcome them to take over paying for it as well. School administrators have a weird complex going on, where they think they can control and mandate kids that they didn't give birth to and don't financially (or even emotionally) support. Get a clue.
@Rainybasket Lots of kids don't use their phones in class. I know I didn't, unless there wasn't anything else going on. Stupid bans like this punish all the kids, even the ones that don't do anything wrong.
Gen X here. We got through 12 years of education without cell phones. You can survive without them. Trust me. I'm glad we didn't have them too. We didn't have helicopter parenting then and we're far less neurotic because of it.

@@jusletursoulglobaby 99.999% of the cell phone use is not anything to do with mass casualty events. Kids are developmentally years behind as a result of living on these damn things. The have almost no capacity to look someone in the eye and socialize normally in real space. They have no ability for self entertainment without the screen. The 16 and 17 year olds I see these days don't act anywhere near that age. They're watching little kid cartoons all the time. Few of them have any initiative to learn how to drive or even ever leave the house on weekends. The reason so many young men these days are "incels" is not because of feminism or any of the thousand other things they blame it on. They, and the young women their age have no practice at socialization. I stopped at a high school prom when a friend dropped of her daughter recently. Not only didn't any of them have dates, they didn't dance, or ever even talk face to face. They all stood around staring blankly into their screens and by 10 p.m. all of them had gone home, relieved to get away from all human contact so they could settle into their screen time again. Many of them seem to have no substantial waking existence away from their screens. Many are nowhere near ready to begin even the tentative steps into independent adulthood that they should be on the cusp of doing at that age. 17 is the new 12. We're not doing them any favors by keeping them attached to an electronic umbilical cord 24/7.
I’m in 11th grade and some of my teachers are doing this, one of them got a bunch of board games and everyday we have her class she makes us talk to the people at our tables for 5 minutes. It’s honestly really nice I feel like I’ve learned more about my classmates in the past few weeks than past years
No. It has nothing to do with wanting to always be able to be in contact with our kids. Its that our schools are extremely unsafe, and since the goverments and schools refuse to do what is necessary to protect our children i need to know exactly where my child is if there is a shooting since uvalde showed us if i want my kid to survive i may need to go get them my damn self! Protect our kids, NOT YOUR DONORS!
@@reaperdragon1 terryschulz DOES make some sense: many kids are having mental health issues specifically due to social media and cell phones. It would be interesting to see if there were any data on how much not having cell phones in schools reduces discipline issues (AND mental health issues) at schools. As for wanting your student to have a cell phone in case of an emergency, that would be fine. So, that means you are NOT using it during class to confirm pickup times. Or that they forgot their lunch. Or students contacting their friends in a class 2 doors down. If you check your child's cell phone usage, I think you'll find a LOT of usage between 8 am and 2 pm, and I'd guess that most of it had very little to do with a school shooting at your child's school.
My problem how you supposed to catch teacher or other students in wrongful and illegal act if student can't take out their phone to catch them in the act
Students won't record other students and turn them in. As for teachers, kids don't have to record anything, if 2-3 students all give the same story to admin, the teacher is in serious trouble. In many states, there's legal issues with using recordings like that anyway. And most of the time, they're not use to give admin evidence, they're used out of context to post on tik tok or other social media to either make fun of the teacher, or get them in trouble for something hey didn't even do.
I’m okay with the way my son’s school district is implementing a cellphone ban. He has his phone when he is in between class and before and after school, but not during instructional time. An emergency can go through the office. Anything else he can check when he’s not in class.
Gen Z guy here and I 100% agree that cell phones should be banned or taken during class. I graduated in 2018 and I easily got through school without having a phone in class. Heck I even hand wrote my notes because it's easier to memorize. These days kids are way to addicted to social media and they want to do everything except pay attention in class. Funny enough these were also the same kids who were constantly needing help, extra credit, or tutoring. Every year I would give my parents me schedule so if they needed to get in touch with me they would call or text between periods or during lunch. My phone would either be in my pocket, bag, or facedown on my desk. Maybe if kids actually paid attention to class in grade school they might not have such a hard time in college and beyond.
I'm also Gen Z and I agree that phones are a huge distraction to kids. I'm graduating next year from high school and I'm ready to get out of there. Kids these days need to learn and not be on electronics. One time last year in history class, two of the girls came to class late and refuses to put their phones in the phone caddy and I wanted to roll my eyes because they are constantly on their phones. It pisses me off because they don't want to learn. Also, with needing help or getting a tutor is for everyone. I have a learning disability and I always get help whenever I'm struggling or wanting to have extra practice. I also have extra time when I couldn't submit the assignment in time because it takes a lot of time to complete. Extra practice for a topic in class is good so that you can be good at it or even help others. But I get when the same students who don't pay attention get extra help a lot just because they want to boost their grade up. I see students do this all the time in some of my classes from last year so I don't blame you.
@nataliejones8308 Hey best of luck to you with graduation. I should have clarified that getting extra help or tutoring isn't bad or embarrassing at all. I also got extra help at times. But the kids I was referring to would need extra help and tutoring because they weren't paying attention in class. 90% of the time this was because they were distracted by their phone or computer.
@@MuhammadAli-qk2fe There's a good chance they weren't paying attention in class because they couldn't pay attention cell phone or not, or couldn't understand what was being taught. Sometimes the cell phone is the symptom, not the malady. People have ADHD, they have Autism, they had bad home lives, they're terrified a bully is going to jump them, they have learning/processing/emotional disorders. Basically, they have other things that make school harder for them. And if they weren't using phones, they'd just do something else.

But what if there's a school shooting? I doubt that "contacting you from the office" would be sufficient enough to lull your concerns in that circumstance. Also, what if there's gross misconduct going on? I'm not a parent, but if I were, I would want my kids to be able to have direct communication with me because the world isn't what it used to be, unfortunately.
Mom here. This is not feasible in a school with over 1,000 kids or immediately when school lets out. Or during after school activities that are off site or in school when the office is locked.
@@diegoromeo7237 Here's the thing, Kids will distract class with or without a phone. If they are not interested in the lesson or if they have other things going on in their lives outside of school that is keeping them from focusing then they are going to distract or go off task. Period. And that's what is never being mentioned here. For me, what it's come down to is they are using phones to hunt for a reason to be a bully and no one is teaching the ones who are being bullied the concept of blocking the bullies. Then again, bullies will bully without a phone too. I was bullied in school and there was no such thing as cell phones for the younger folks back then. Back then you had to be a business person to have a mobile device given or afforded to you because it became a tool to do your work on.
Like, I agree with banning cellphones, but also, “ban guns, not phones.” There’s so many problems and we go to fix them, and there’s one problem and we don’t go to fix it.
Except the phones have caused more widespread and persistent damage to kids in U.S. and all over the WORLD than guns have. And the phones and social media have played a part in increasing school shootings!
I understand but you shouldn't ban phones during lunch or passing times thank God north Dakota hasn't done this yet it's so dumb to ban phones at lunch and passing periods
Proof parents are getting dumber sadly. I don’t want to insult the parent, but it’s as if they don’t understand the experts in educating children have realized cell phones are a distraction for the kids. It’s one thing if you say, I want my child to have the cell phone on them so that they can make an emergency call to me if necessary. That makes sense, but when an educator comes back at you and says your child won’t put this phone down and listen to me in class the parent should recognize the problem. They don’t want to listen they want teachers to educate their children while the children are busy trying to text their friends or look at UA-cam or make a video for TikTok. It’s almost as if the parents don’t know the kids are at home, distracted by the cell phone. I thought schools have had cell phones banned in classrooms for a long time. I graduated from high school 11 years ago and vividly remember cell phones not being allowed not even during lunch.
And most junior, middle and high schools (especially in Florida) have security guards who use metal detectors to screen students coming in as well, in addition to banning phones.
When i was a kid, if something was distracting a student from learning the teacher was allowed to take it away from them. And if they were lucky, they got it back at the end of class. Why are they still not just doing that?
I remember when there weren't cell phones and we got along just fine. As for picking up something on the way home, they will get the message after school. As for an active shooter situation, they should probably ring their phone in case they are hiding.
Are you aware of how big of a problem this is? Kids are anxious and depressed, and worse, parents project their fears onto kids and expect that they can contact kids at all times. Sick and sad.
Yes. This is serious. Nobody can have phones because they can distract the students from studying math and science and others. That’s why they leave the phones in their houses before they go to school.

It’s very obvious banning internet and social media in school is good but parents need a way to directly communicate with their children in an emergency situation.
Simply add "cellphone jammers" at the school. When students are under this "electronic umbrella" that spans the school, all phones will display "NO SERVICE". In case of emergency, the school office flips a switch... umbrella off, cellphones all work. Logistically, trying to put phones in bags, or phones in a box is to costly to maintain, babysit phones, administration of handing phones back out..... DAILY.... The ectronic umbrella concept is much easier to administer and control.
I get the concerns of the parents. We live in a prime time of school misconduct from teachers and school officials alike. Compare trying to get footage from a security camera if your child reports teacher misconduct, or bullying, or sexual assault, to people with phones not accessible by the government that can record, store, and share these things. People in the comments state that their generation did fine, and they are correct. We live in a different time now, advancement of technology = advancement of policy. Do you think Rodney Kings beating would had been recorded if there was a cell phone ban after hours? Only reason people believed is because of that recording.
I work in the school system, I have to travel from school to school and deal with these children when it comes to the yearbook. They are feral, they are addicted, they are raised by the Internet, they lack respect, critical thinking, imagination and have absolutely NO emotional regulation when they don’t get what they want.
the solution is really simple: *_parents, utilize those parental controls!_* i *still* use the screen time features on my teen’s iphone to allow (or not) access to certain websites. also, she has to have my permission to DL anything from the app store. if you do elect to let your kids use social media, make school hours downtime, & those apps will be blocked. my child commutes to and from school on her own, and we live in NYC. i’d be a mess if i couldn’t be in touch with her with all the craziness going on. with 500+ kids in her school, i can’t rely on an office phone being accessible.
I'm a senior in high school and I also have screen time on my phone. I didn't put screen time on my phone. My parents did. I want to thank them for not having me to be addicted on my phone 24/7 and I'm doing pretty well with it now. I only use it to listen to music, access the apps for school, listen to music and watch videos (I only watch videos when I get things done and at least be productive for the day along with Instagram). I'm thinking of giving myself screen time in college or be less on my phone unless I want to contact my friends from high school or in college or even my loved ones. When I become a mom, I'm not letting my kids to get their phone until they are responsible, mature, and know what it takes to have a phone. If they are in middle school and wanted a phone, I'm putting screen time and allow (and not allow to) access certain apps during downtime or when they run out of screen time. They would thank me later of why I put screen time on their phones. If they wanted to talk to their friends on discord or wanted to listen to music, I would definitely give them more time on discord/spotify. I want my future kids to learn so they can be successful in life to be a construction worker/actor/musician/etc. I don't even care if they want to be famous as long as they have talent, professional, and maturity. The states and schools should petition the FCC and federal legislature to allow limited area cell phone jammers in the classrooms. The low area jammers only cover a small area and can be turned on when class starts and turned off manually or based on pre-programmed class schedules for individual classrooms and hallways. Areas outside the jamming area in the school will still allow students to use their cell phones.

I’m with the school board on this issue. School is supposed to be a place of academic learning, and cell phones are an unnecessary distraction. If you have an emergency, the procedures in place prior to the existence of cell phones have not changed.
Unfortunately, speaking as a former autistic school student who went to school without a cell phone or a smart phone, if a student wants to fight or disrupt class, etc. they are going to do it with or without a device. most likely, they’re not. it’d be an additional workload for the school secretary, and she would *not* be willing to take on the additional tasks without the additional pay. messages wouldn’t be delivered on time, if at all; and worried, frantic parents (such as myself) would be the result. that’s just the school’s vantage of why it’s a bad idea all around.
@@07Flash11MRC actually, they must relay the messages, that is the school's responsibility. And no, people don't need to switch to homeschooling. Get a grip on reality.
I think they're the better parents that don't want to ban phones. By banning phones it just removes responsibility from teaching there is a time and place for phone usage. Advocating for responsible phone use is better than just outright banning phones.
@@tomgames8616Before this ban, virtually every teen kept using their phones in schools, and have been a major distraction to the whole class regardless if only one student had it. Kids are not learning really anything in schools if they’re on social media all the time.
Gen Z. Ban the phones. We have phone pouches that are locked from drop off till school end. Ring the office if you have problems. I loved this because nobody was on phones. I also loved this because I was smacked into by somebody looking on their phone while I wasn’t. I was looking they weren’t, they got mad at me for not looking where I was going, that definitely left some emotional damage.
Or how about when my son was being accused of leaving school every day at 11 oclock, and when i went and sat on the st in my car at 11 oclock, my son was no where to be seen.. called the school office and was told, your son signed out for the day..called my son, and behold he was IN CLASS where he was supposed to be. The schools are untrustworthy, and I, for one WANT my child to have their phone on them.
It's because they are really not parents. It's kids pretending to be parents. That's why the schools have offices for emergencies. Kid in school to focus on school.
I definitely can see both sides to this. I graduated in 2015 from high school. If it was not for cell phones, certain teachers would not get exposed like what we saw in 2016 when it came to the presidential election in which a professor let her feelings be known about Trump. But, these kids are out of control on social media. This is why I cannot stand applications like TikTok. It is ruining these kids attention fans. And I am glad that teachers are speaking on this. However, what are we supposed to do if there is a school shooting. And parents need to get a hold of these kids. If we remember, there was a shooting at I believe it was a FedEx facility a couple of years ago, and because of the policies that they had people could not have their phones out at work. Which caused them not to be able to get a hold of their family members. I don’t think that workplace should be instituting policies telling people when they can or can’t be on their phone. They are adults, so they should be responsible for themselves. I am personally sick of the nanny State.
My MiL avidly wanted all her kids to have one by age 8. I told her my kids, her grandkids wouldn’t have one UNTIL they bought their own. If they need a phone the school has an office. She later took random parenting classes and came up with the brilliant idea that perhaps phones early in life weren’t smart. Some people have common sense and others require a therapist to tell them that a red light=stop.
I think there should be a delicate balance, sort of like a middle ground between responsibility and having a mobile phone at school. What I mean is that I think that mobile phone should be permitted in schools but children have to be taught to be responsible and not be using them in the classroom when they’re supposed to be learning, and paying attention to the lesson. If parents took the time to teach their children that they shouldn’t be using their mobile phones in the classroom then schools shouldn’t have to be pushing to have them banne altogether. I just think they should have them in case of emergencies and that’s it. Will children take advantage of having a mobile phone? Absolutely! But like I said, this is why it’s ultimately up to the parents to teach their children that with having mobile phones, especially in school, comes responsibility. It should also be the parent’s responsibility to take their child’s privilege of having a mobile phone away if they notice negative impacts on their child’s education or if they get reports from the school that the child has been using their phone in the classroom instead of paying attention to the lesson.
Just to clarify, I’m not taking the side of these parents. I’m just basing this off my own experience since I actually had a mobile phone in school, but since it was a regular flip phone or basic phone, there was not much to do on it anyway other than necessary phone calls in case of emergencies. So I never got in trouble by getting caught using my phone in the classroom instead of learning. But then again I already knew and fully understood at that point that I was in school to learn and not to play with my phone. That being said, I agree with most comments in this section that these parents are just enabling their children because they’re not accepting the fact that schools have to take these measures to ban mobile phones since kids nowadays have smart phones, which have been proven to be very distractive in the classroom environment.
I can understand both sides. Phones need to to be accessible but not a distraction. Every class should have a storage rack at the front of the class where phones can be stored and picked up at the end of the class. If there was a shooting, the phones would be nearby but not in the hands of kids during class time.
That’s unsafe, and stupid. Ultimately it’s up to the kids themselves to learn, if a kid is distracted on their phone then that’s their issue if they fail the class. You shouldn’t be banning them outright also, like during lunch’s, for the kids trying to find there friends or someone that sits alone.. I sure won’t be staring at the wall when I’m done eating, I’d be on my phone. During class I understand, it during no educational times you should be allowed to use them
Future phones will have new hardware that will allow the school system to control your registered phone legally, as long as you are a student and within the operational limits of implemented systems within school grounds. Confiscating phones simply will not work.
I survived without a cellphone in school. The classroom had a telephone. If a parent needed to reach students, the front office called the classroom to have the student come to the office to receive the message. There weren't school ___ers back then, but if they were the telephones in classrooms, offices, and so on could have been used to call 911.
What is wrong with this generation of parents? Like we didn't grow up know our phones are a distraction and it's only worse now. We as a country really don't care about our children's education and it's really sad.
has no one ever heard the quote with great power comes great responsibility? it's not the phones, it's just the fact that we're giving kids that aren't ready or responsible enough access to them.
I was almost 16 years old when I get my phone. My brother was 14 when he gets his phone. I am slightly more the responsible at using my phone than my brother because I have a school mode on my Samsung 52A . My parents never taught me this and I did it at my own free-will after acknowledging how addicted my classmates are to their phones. I have make As & Bs. I am now a college freshman at 4-years private liberal arts college. Also to added, I am also special needs to and which makes it even more chanlling which is because I have been recently diagnosed with Inattentive ADHD. In the past , when ADHD was diagnosed the researchs and expirments only done on impulsive and hyperactive boys. My spelling and grammar are bad because I am special needs not the usage of technology.
what is wrong with parents. My kids do not even have one to ban. A cell phone is not a need for kids. Time the parents quit letting kids dictate and take control of the rising new criminals.
some of these modern parents forgot what the world was like before cell phones I guess. They're goofy for pushing against this tbh... sending kids to school with the tablet that raised them.
We need this cell phone ban, kids now these days can even complete an assignment without looking it up on the phone. This is our next generation of the country and for them to really on technology too much is just going to screw us in the future.
Because of all of the sh**tings going on at least let us keep our phones on our bodies cuz like last year I had to problem and also as an artists phones aren’t distracting, let me guess the US government is going to ban taking sketch books and drawing pencils to school -.- And also i honestly don’t care about this “law” I still keep it in my pocket lol I ain’t putting anything that could be stolen in my bag

Idk I think social media makes things seem much worse than they are.
Exactly, thank you.
I graduated in 2008 as well. I had a razor up until my sophomore year of college. Only a few students had the I phone 1. It was the rich students. Today’s kids are born with smart in their hands. I agree with this. If I had to make a call I’d go to the office
When I was in high school we all had beepers, no cellphones and if we were seen with a beeper we would have it taken away until the end of class.

Why are parents texting their children during the day anyway?
Coordinating pick up, coordinating schedules

We must have phones in school no exceptions
Yes teachers are quitting because they can't get kids to put the dang phones down to learn anything. Then they try to take it away and students are physically fighting 4 the phone! It's crazy. Soon we won't have teachers left to teach. I saw some schools removed mirrors in the bathroom because kids were in there filming videos. Oh and not to mention all the bullying being done through social media! Smh. These kids aren't using the phones 4 help during bullying. Their filming so they can post it for views!
Poor kids would steal them
After retirement from a school district, parents have to choose. Educate without their phones or not. Phones do more damage than not.
You could have commented, or not. It wouldn't have made a difference, or maybe it did.
As someone who used to bring their phone to school the only time I would use my phone would be when classes were over or in between breaks and lunch.
I agree.
Get a clue.

You don’t need a cellphone for that. Smartwatches can do the same but better.
Smart school policy.
What if there's a shooting hows he gonna run to the office
The bans annoy me, as I want my son to have quick communication with me if anything bad happens at his school. Not just wait for the school to let me know. I have little faith in our school district. And it’s a different time today than it was in other generations. But I also understand that not every (not even most) parents, parent their child like I do. My son has a Bark phone. So it’s well monitored/locked down. Also, he is not allowed social media.

It’s very obvious banning internet and social media in school is good but parents need a way to directly communicate with their children in an emergency situation.
200 years we didn’t have them and it was fine.
Nah, even longer than that. We didn't all have cell phones until the new millenium.

Teachers are mostly in support of banning phones in the classrooms, and have cited phones as a major issue to them.
the solution is really simple: *_parents, utilize those parental controls!_* i *still* use the screen time features on
my teen’s iphone to allow (or not) access to certain websites. also, she has to have my permission to DL anything from the app store. if you do elect to let your kids use social media, make school hours downtime, & those apps will be blocked. my child commutes to and from school on her own, and we live in NYC. i’d be a mess if i couldn’t be in touch with her with all the craziness going on. with 500+ kids in her school, i can’t rely on an office phone being accessible.
Long story short, I want my kids to be happy and successful and not be on electronics a lot.

@@tomgames8616 THIS!!!! When I have kids, no matter what age they are at, I'm going to teach them how to use phones responsibly. When I was little, I had a house phone that I would use to call my grandparents or a friend or a loved one.
@@tomgames8616 It's a great idea or should I say ideal, but it would be like putting a plate of cookies out in the middle of the table at 1:00 on a Saturday afternoon and telling junior no cookies until after dinner. Or maybe telling the dad...? :) The point is, it's too tempting. "I thought my mom was calling." "I only checked it for a second, what's the big deal?" "It IS my mom calling. It must be important!" "I need to tell them when to pick me up." On average, 2-5 kids in my classes have shown they can be mature and responsible in their cell phone use (that's out of 30 kids average). Heck, tomgames, even you must realize that not all adults use their cell phones responsibly. I see them on their phones while driving. I see them making a clerk or teller wait, while the have a line behind them, while they handle the "urgent business" on their cell phone. And you think the average 14-15 year old will be able to handle that responsibility?
The states and schools should petition the FCC and federal legislature to allow limited area cell phone jammers in the classrooms. The low area jammers only cover a small area and can be turned on when class starts and turned off manually or based on pre-programmed class schedules for individual classrooms and hallways. Areas outside the jamming area in the school will still allow students to use their cell phones.

Phones are off during class, if they use it in an irresponsible manner it's confiscated till end of class.
Responsible phone use, it shouldn't be that difficult to teach students.
my school disallowed phones before other than music or electronic books (when allowed) but they took those away 😭

Also, parents need to participate in this by not giving their kids smart phones until after they graduate out of high school. Why won't those parents give their kid a dumb phone and making them work up to a smart phone?

BAN CELLPHONES FOR ALL KIDS!!!
Are school office staff ready for the influx of phone calls and messages they must relay to students.
most likely, they’re not. it’d be an additional workload for the school secretary, and she would *not* be willing to take on the additional tasks without the additional pay. messages wouldn’t be delivered on time, if at all; and worried, frantic parents (such as myself) would be the result. that’s just the school’s vantage of why it’s a bad idea all around.

❤🎉 now I know why cell phone ☎️ was banned when I was in high school 🏫
During class I understand, it during no educational times you should be allowed to use them
No phones at schools.
Thats not why kids are there.
Exactly. It's almost as if phones are an unnessesary distraction.
Or just leave the phones at the office when they come and they can get it after school…
That's stupid.
Just tell kids to use their phones responsibly.
Future phones will have new hardware that will allow the school system to control your registered phone legally, as long as you are a student and within the operational limits of implemented systems within school grounds. Confiscating phones simply will not work.
