When I was in college I learned about some high schools that were structured like colleges they were for self driven kids that were academically gifted in a very good way. This place is like the Harvard if middle schools. It is privately owned.
Anyways depending on the school they could have many deans so each child gets more attention. But to normal schools they will only have One principal then when you get into college they are Dean.

It not phones but the students work ethic and how they learn. I am on my phone a lot in school (I’m a senior in high school) many teachers make us put away in our pockets and no correlation between phone use and grades. If a student is failing a class it not the phone it’s the student. A phone can be a distraction but students can have a phone and do work. I do it my other classmates do it so it’s not the phones but how the student was raised and how they treat school. I know a super smart girl who was always faced down on her phone and she made the honor roll for both quarters (I made for the first quarter I got a c in a class). The difference between her and others is she know what she’s doing and to do work before going on the phone. So in a normal American school if you take the phones away they’ll just talk, doodle and procrastinate. So you want to see better grades then teach your kids to pay attention and to have self control.

As someone who literally broke her arm in school and my teacher wouldn’t let me go to the nurse (and this was back in 2008) I was glad for my flip phone. Yes, that teacher did get in trouble, and yes I was able to get to the orthopedist because I had a cell phone. In an ideal world, we would be able to trust that nothing would go wrong and that we wouldn’t need cell phones, but they are also there for emergencies. All we need is god forbid something horrible happening in one of these schools and these kids not being able to contact their relatives for this to all blow up in their faces. Sadly, we live in times where people are insane and schools are targets. I am very much against this.

Wrong. Very few people had phones even back in 2008 - everyone did fine for decades before that. Do you think an entire generation of kids's mental health and education needs to be put in jeopardy because, in your anecdotal experience, had to use the phone once? In a scale of what's more harmful to this and the next generations, KEEPING the phones is much much worse.

They need to learn how to communicate with their peers and school staff, how to conduct themselves with others and have real conversations, at lunch time as well, that is part of the school day. As far as relearning how to concentrate, losing their cell for several hours a day will most definitely help with that. Parents need to start taking phones away during homework time, at the dinner table and at bedtime in order to relearn how to have a conversation and that includes the parents.

My local county just started giving all students grades 6-12 Yonder pouches this year. I think that it is a good idea. I think that people forget that if there is an emergency and they need to get a hold of their child that all they have to do is call the school and they will see to it that the child will get the message.

You know i think this is absolutely genius. Im in highschool currently and used to see kids on their phones all the time. I wasnt on mine often because im not addicted since the only social media i really have is UA-cam which i rarely check to begin with. My school doesnt have the yondr pouches but they have cracked down on the phone policy.
My only major gripe about this, and i know it was not mentioned in the video but lots of school are also cracking down on things like headphones too, while i think thats also very wise in most cases theres some where it isnt. Where i say this ban isnt great is for certain people with stuff like ADHD or autism who use headphones to suppress noise during work time (not while teacher is teaching). I myself am one of those students that needs something to help suppress the noise of kids talking because it overwhelms me and then im on the verge of breakdown for several hours. Im also not the only kid with this issue. Thats the only part i disagree with
