My autistic child LOVED this movie. The limited dialogue made it easier to follow the story and enjoy the visuals and characters.

I am autistic as well and as a kid WALL-E was my FAVORITE movie of all time, the limited dialogue was a big part of it for sure, but I also loved the robot designs. I used to run around saying "Waaaalll-eee" all the time. It was a special interest, I collected all the toys and merch and couldn't stop drawing the characters.
Same, 21 and this little guy still made me smile, I even have a small Wall-E toy sitting on the shelf
You just blew my mind. I'M Autistic. While this wasn't my favorite movie as a child I still adored it. I never thought about it that way before but maybe that's the biggest reason why.

God, every time EVE screamed for Wall-E when he was hurt, the soft whisper, "No..." after the pod exploded, all of it makes me cry every damn time I watch this movie. 😭
This is why Auto makes such an effective villain, in that he is not. He's just following his directive as all the robots do, until they don't. And that is the magic of WallE himself, in ways he doesn't even mean to be. His very existence causes change, and human and robot see the benefit almost immediately. It just didn't get there for Auto.
He kinda is though. He is almost exactly HAL-9000 from the "Space Odyssey".

@@DameMitHermelinexcept for the whole deal that HALs malfunction wasn't his fault and that it was created exactly because of conflicting human directives being given to him, which he couldn't reconcile. As his designer explains in 2010, when the Discoverys mission was augmented after the transmission from the Tycho monolith, the 3 specialists were placed in to cryo ahead of time, but Bowman and Poole were need to know (and wouldn't be considered otherwise until they got there, as the automated message indicates in 2001 right after HAL is disconnected). HAL had full mission knowledge, but was told to keep it from Bowman and Poole, which was basically telling HAL to lie, which went against his primary programming. 2001 even has the conversation between Dave and HAL just before he reports the antenna malfunction where in hindsight, HAL is almost desperately trying to get Dave to notice the fishy nature, probably his last effort to reconcile his orders and his programming by hoping Dave gets curious enough to discover the truth on his own, allowing HAL to disregard the orders to lie.
But either way, HAL is no more the intentional villain than AUTO. They end up that way because of human error.
What I love about Wall.E is that while it’s never spelled out, you can tell that the reason he’s survived for so long is because some glitch in his programming gave him curiosity, survival instincts, and arguably completely sentience
And while it’s a little unrelated, I always wondered why Wall.E would have a lazer, but then I realized it’s probably to break down large pieces of trash that can’t fit in their compactor……like the fridge
That makes a lot of sense! Also the reasons the others didn’t survive was because they didn’t adapt to the sand storms and other harsh climates caused by the overdose of trash.
Edit: also the incinerators stopped functioning which caused the walle’s to make multiple trash towers…
The fact that Wall-E’s sole interaction with the door bot was waving at it and then it happily waves after him when he leaves with eve just goes to show how much of an effect he had on everyone’s built-in, almost forced way of life, as Auto proved

He isn't even unique in having that effect. This movie's secondary message is that uninterrupted routine is poison, but it barely takes anything to spice it up.

I can agree with that to some extent. For everyone staying ridged in a routine isn’t good but for people with Autism like myself find it really difficult to get out of our comfortable routine which makes it hard for us to accept change to be a good thing.
Wall-E is completely adorable, he's impossible to not love. Earth is so dreary but they manage to make our time with Wall-E magical anyway. Movie never fails to make me smile, cry, laugh and cheer.
Something definitely happened with Wall-E, glitch or whatever. Something makes him different from all the others of his model, he's evolved past his original purpose, which is why he's the only one left too. He learned to survive but also live.
"I didn't know I'd hate a steering wheel this much." is one of the funniest things I've ever heard in reference to Wall-E.

One of my favorite little details in this movie is the showcasing that people WANT to learn, but won't be able to if they aren't already given the option. They show the robots teaching the kids the absolute bare minimum and not providing them with any actual stimulation or activity involved, they are actively preventing curiosity from a young age; this gets contrasted by the few adults we do see immediately being entranced and excited when they realize there are so many things around them to learn from. The captain wants to know everything he can about Earth and history, John learns to be nicer upon meeting Wall-E and experiencing being introduced to for the first time, the woman wants to explore the ship and learn to do physical activity with John, many of the robots get excited once they meet Wall-E and realize they don't have to stay fixed into their programming(the cutest one to me was the door robot learning to wave and waving bye to Wall-E), and the ending credits is the humans(with the robots help) essentially re-doing everything in history in order to re-learn how to survive and care for the planet. (Plus they don't seem to have the concept of money anymore, everything is provided as needed, so being corrupt or selfish is probably much harder to get away with)
Yeah like the captain's passing comment about the morning announcements being 'the only thing i get to do around here' grumpily and the human couple's excitement about the swimming pool
I love how Eve treats her diagnostics check…she’s annoyed that she’s being sent there, but ultimately this is just her version of a checkup and she knows all the motions

Most people, myself included, only notice how much bigger the captains are getting in each picture at first, and the fact that AUTO is getting closer each time doesn't click until its specifically called out later. This movie is so impressive. Without much dialog, they manage to tell a complete love story, communicate emotions with the viewers AND give personality to the characters. It's just amazing. One of my all-time fav animated movies tbh.
My favorite scene in the movie is when WALL-E and Eve are in the trash compactor and Eve throws away the plant saying that WALL-E is her new directive.

The ability this movie has to make one single word of dialogue so meaningful... "Directive" is such a cold and clinical word, but it's a robot's whole purpose for existence. Eve's primary purpose is to find plant life, and not much else. But in a single word and gesture she says "no, my purpose was to find you." It's one of the most beautiful robots-gaining-sentience moments in my opinion
Fun fact - both Wall-E and M-O were voiced by the main sound designer Ben Burtt...The legendary man behind the iconic sound design of Star Wars. The man who created the sound of blasters, lightsabers, Vader's breathing, R2D2's beeping noises and so on!
He also did all the sound design for this movie!

Except Auto. Auto is the only robot not voiced by a human. They used an Apple voice program for Auto, to make it sound more robotic. Because it is the most robotic on the ship, unable to change and never wavering from its directive.
5:28 One of my dogs is obsessed with eggs. He always wants to carry the egg box when you bring it home from the shop. we don’t let him unless we’re holding onto it too. If you give him an egg he’ll take it off you gently, but then lift his head and drop the egg on the floor so it breaks and he can eat it. One of the few things he’s smart about, lol.

Such a brilliant and heartwarming film! Also, re: your question of why WALL-E was the only one to survive on Earth for so long - I've always assumed that he was the only one to figure out how to scavenge for supplies and repair himself when needed. He evolved beyond his primary directive of "pick up trash, compact trash, and store trash" because he was able to see the unique VALUE in each item he picked up, and then consider what uses each item might have. :)
EDIT: Also, if you didn't already, please be sure to watch the full credits - they contain a full epilogue showing how humanity slowly rebuilds the Earth, and how WALL-E and EVE live happily ever after together.

I always had the headcanon of, like we see in the movie, he got struck by lightning (and later a spark) which fried parts of his hardware. Basically resulting in him having way looser programming than the other units.
I think the implication of Wall-E is not that robots can disobey their programming, rather that they CAN decide to do MORE, than just what they are programmed to do. That's what makes Wall-E special, and how he ispires others, be they human or robot.
And I didn’t catch this until recently, but it’s because he was able to break the status quo of survival, and instead live a life of adaptability and curiosity, that he was able to outlast the other robots. If it weren’t for WALL-E, humans would’ve withered away just like those other WALL-Es.

I recently realized that either Wall-E wasn't built to speak or all the years along made him have to re-learn to talk; because through the movie he gets better and better at speaking.
Very, very brave to make an animated film in which so little is said. But, in my opinion, this is the best Pixar film ever. Music, animation, emotions, critical undertones and WALL E... itself. Simply perfect.

I love that most of the robot voices are not actors. They are literally made by power tools run at varying settings and pressed against different materials.
The beauty of Wall-E being himself is that he’s not perfect and only when the little spark happens at the very end that makes him imperfect is when he’s finally back to himself
That moment at 19.10 or so where our boy notices AUTO in all the captains' portraits getting gradually closer long before it becomes relevant... but doesn't notice the captains themselves growing progressively larger. 😄

This video 100% shows what I mean when I say "I like watching movie reaction videos" cuz despite how much I've seen Wall-E, there is something about watching it and seeing the reactions of someone who hasnt seen it, that makes it feel so much better, like the cuteness of Wall-E with Eve
It wasn't until now that I realized that if Wall-e had not been trying to dig out the city from trash then he would never have found that one plant.
8:45 "First interaction with another robot" Actually, it's most likely that WALL-E has been working on Earth for a verrry long time, when many other robots of his design originally existed and worked too, so this wouldn't be his first interaction. It's probably been a while since he did see another functioning robot though. Since you can see that the other models eventually wore out, what saved WALL-E was probably the sentience he achieved over time - as he swapped out his broken or worn out parts and learned what he would need to do in order to survive. He also found things to live for, like making a home, looking forward to collecting interesting items, enjoying movies and music, and actually liking his work (plus maybe hoping to find a companion one day). However, WALL-E almost definitely hadn't met a robot like EVE before. Robots designed aboard the AXIOM would have been from long after the ship's departure from Earth.
Wall-E makes me cry _every time_. It is kinda horrifying how 16 years later, this dystopian future seems ever more plausible.

I think the most interesting thing about this film is just the start and people tend to not notice a few things on their first watch through. Wall-e’s house is the storage and housing unit for all his other robot friends who shut down, so he filled their sleeping spots with all the neat trash he found. The other Wall-e’s were programmed to just clean garbage and move on but our Wall-e was different and would collect Knick knacks, replace his broken parts, repair himself and develop a personality.
The "slight bone loss" 😂 yep that's gonna happen being in space for your whole life
2:00 some explanation the movie didn't give clear: about 700 years before the story depicted in the movie, the global commercial-politician corporation named Buy 'n Large launched the Operation Cleanup to clear Earth from trash. The plan was pretty simple: build tons of WALL-E robots (Waste Allocator Load Lifter - Earth class) to press trash in cubes, then load shuttles with said cubes and discharge the trash in space. Meanwhile, various space cruise ships were built, filled with humans and sent to space for a 5 years cruise, the extimated time needed to get rid of all trash.
Sadly, the toxicity levels on Earth increased meanwhile, making the Operation Cleanup apparently useless. All the humans still on Earth fled from it, abandoning the WALL-E fleet to its destiny: doing their work until catastrophical climatic events and malfunctions led them to the ultimate shutdown. Every WALL-E on Earth broke... except for one, which continued to do its job for 700 years, surviving thanks to the truck-home, a cover from lethal climatic events, and "cannibalizing" the dead WALL-Es for spare parts. In the meantime, thanks to stuff humans once treated as trash, this survived WALL-E developed some sort of intelligence, and feelings.
A little trivia: BnL corporation exists in Toy Story franchise. For example, in Toy Story 3 we can see that Buzz Lightyear's batteries are from BnL.
This movie is such a simple concept, but it's executed perfectly. The fact the entire movie has such little dialogue and still conveys so much emotion and meaning is phenomenal.
19:47 “That voice” is one of the original MacinTalk (text-to-speech) voices on the Mac. That’s not the only Mac connection: Wall-E’s full-charge sound is the Mac startup chime, EVE was designed by Jony Ive (Apple’s long-time head of design, at the time). And of course Pixar was run by Steve Jobs, who owned a lot of Pixar shares!

This is one of the sweetest and cutest reactions I've seen from you. The movie is so sweet and beautiful, but especially love the message that it gives, similar to The Lorax, but the love story as well makes it just as touching. So, it was sweet getting to see your reactions to many of the heartfelt moments. Also loved the little details the animators did in it. Ex: when WallE was covering her with the umbrella, his battery was low, then once he got struck by the lightning, it was fully charged.
Its a real understated statement. Most children stories contains moral cookies (moral kakor as we say in swedish). This is like the only one i can think of that actually says be mindful, worried, and care for the planet. It is our home and we are assaulting it right now.
So there are two reasons as to how and why WALL-E has survived past his peers.
Firstly, which isn't really something specific to 'our' WALL-E in general, but the WALL-E line or robots were designed to be made out of the most sturdy and durable materials so that they can last for so long.
Second, and the real reason as to how he lasted for so long, is apparently he had a "glitch", which gave him sentience, and because of it he learned to self-repair and be independent from his directive. He discovered how to "live".
love Wall-E so much! they did such a good job with the non-verbal communication and giving emotion and character to robots that are so often strictly mechanical and devoid of human characteristics.
this was me and my exes film. We say it at a cinema in west London for free because she knew some staff and really connected with it. It was a long time ago but I was so ridiculously in love with that girl. I bought her plushies of wall e and eva and they sat on top of her telly holding hands. I often wonder if she still has those plushies.

There are some reaction channels that honestly give me the idea they've already seen half the stuff they say they haven't. What I like about his channel is that he's honest about what he's already seen AND doesn't let it stop him from still making videos on stuff he's watched. It makes it easier to believe when he says he hasn't seen something
18:33 It's already happening. I've heard of families sit round dinner tables in public while they're waiting for food and not even speak to each other, but be on their phones. It's really sad that they're so addicted and the parents are letting it happen.
Of course they're letting it happen, God forbid they have to deal with their child talking.
We're all guilty of it, to an extent with our other family members too. We've all been on our computers when we should have spent more time off it and doing things that human beings are, basically, naturally designed to do. We aren't zoo animals, we aren't farm animals, cooped up just to eat and stare. We need movement, people, the outdoors, exercise, and a change of scenery, and daily. I may not have kids myself, and have no plans to ever have any, but I've been taking steps to work on this problem and have made significant improvement. My turning point was when I started getting back pain and finding it harder to lose weight than I used to, so I crashed the number of hours I spent being sedentary. It worked WONDERS. It was so lovely to get off the screen and only be say down less than four hours a day (NHS recommended). Try it. 🙂@@turntsnaco824
There was a comic that expanded the Wall-E universe. It showed a human landing on Earth only to see it was abandoned. He was in space and had been left behind. Everyone he knew and loved were gone. His home was in ruins. He had no way to get back to them because his ship was damaged when landing. Wall-E helped him fix his ship and the comic ended with him being reunited with his wife and child on the Axiom.
In high school we were supposed to write a story about Wal-E in one of the characters point of view. I chose Wal-E. And I was so inspired that the story was way longer than what my other classmates wrote. But our teacher didn't give us a max on our papers. I made my paper look like a log that Wal-E wrote

I was absolutely obsessed with this movie when I was like 5-6yo, I watched it every single evening without fail (my parents thought that I must get bored of it at some point and then fall asleep, it never happened) :D
Auto isn't just following a directive. His directive tells him WHAT to do...but not WHY to do it. Auto has just as many quirks as the others...and after 700 years, that's to be expected.
Auto isn't just doing what he was told. He's saving humankind. He's not saving them because it's his job...he's doing it because he actually cares about humans. Maybe...too much. He obsesses, and that's where the real problem lies.
He'll save humankind at ANY cost. Because he can't bear to lose them.
I think if anything he's the only one not to change. Maybe he's so set on his directive that he was never able to step outside that. Or maybe because he is presumably one of the oldest robots in the film, besides WALL-E. But that's why he's the only speaking robot character not voiced by a human. They used an Apple voice program for his voice because they wanted him to be completely robotic, no trace of "humanity"
I just can't with this movie. Everytime I watch it I cry over the whole movie from its beginning to the end.

FYI...there is a cute little side feature on the DVD called BURN-E, about a welding robot on the starship. Look for it. It is equally brilliant.
I have very special sentiments on this movie - it's one of the first movies (probably second after Piglet's Big Movie) I've seen in the cinema (I was 8 in 2008) and I fell in love with it, my dad bought me a CD with WALL-E then and I got a giant WALL-E poster for my ninth birthday. I used to build WALL-E characters from random Legos, I had a nice WALL-E figurine that came with popcorn and coke in the cinema. It's been an important part of my childhood and I'm so glad you're reacting to it!

Did you watch the end credits? They show how the humans and robots work together to save the earth. It's very sweet and funny. A perfect epilogue. :)
I've said it many times and I'll continue to stand by it. WALL-E is where Pixar peaked and hit the ceiling with their quality.

Well yes, AUTO was following it's primary programing but at the same time it was a form of survival. AUTO is build into the Axiom and isn't able to move freely like the other robots. If the Axiom returns to earth it will be shut down and decommissioned along with AUTO.
I'm not sure if you noticed this, but the credits show the story of what happens after the end of the movie :)
This is an amazing movie, and always great to see reactions to. Especially your reaction - you're one of my favorite reaction channels at the moment because you notice so many details that most people just kind of miss.
By the way, there's an animated short about that robot that got locked outside (I think it's called BURN-E?). I haven't actually watched it yet, but I've heard it's great.

Grew up watching it and love it and love Mo and I pity auto also I came up with a theory of my own that when we meet walle he is 700 years old and most likely around when he was 300 years old he became the last walle and then by 400 years his personality started to grow for the next 300 years which is when he is 700 years old and that by the end of the movie when him and eve are standing in front of the tree that was once the boot that he would be around 1,400 years old eve is probably close to the same age as well but it's harder to tell since she is new and shiny looking

looking back the robots sending the plant back, to not let them go back, kinda make sense, i mean look at it’s state😭… theyre just doing their job, having to protect them ig, not much hope on earth
but im sure everything ends up going well 🤞😭
I think the implication is by the time plants are visible on the surface, they probably have some root structure
