This has got to be one of the most hilarious yet adorable animated films I have seen! I loved the relationship between the two sisters and how real it feels. Enjoy :)

Sad fact, the song Nani sings to Lilo was originally composed by Her Royal Highness (HRH) Princess Liliuokalani in 1878 as a love song to her people,,, before the US locked her in her home and overthrew her land. She lost the people she loved, just as Nani was loosing Lilo
This film was so ahead of his time
She was Queen of Hawaii
Yeah but now we have Hawaii so there ya go!!!
I did not know that! 😮
Woah... She sounds like a good princess.
Btw, lilo’s parents died in a car accident during a storm. That’s why she brings pudge the fish a sandwich every so often. Remember, “pudge controls the weather.”
Right, the one day she didn’t bring him a sandwich her parents died.
@@LiaaaaaaaaAAAAAHH And she keeps feeding him to protect Nani
there are so many little details in the film .. for example in Nami's room you can see medals and trophies in the background indicating that she could have had a career as a surfer but after her parents died she had to give up surfing to care for Lilo .. or Pudge the fish is so important for Lilo because she believes he controls the weather and she wants to prevent it from raining/storming again so that no one has an accident like her parents did
Oh, that's why Lilo feeds Putch the fish?
@@nina-raedelong158 yep
Pudge
Why’d she abandon Lilo to go find the One Piece?
@@jibjibs9401 Because Arlong hated Hawaiians and killed her mom. But Stitch liberated them on his journey to become King of the Pirates.
This movie MAY be about an alien... but it's probably the REALEST animation Disney has ever made. There are whole breakdowns of this movie that will point out little details that will just BREAK YOUR SOUL. Nani giving up her highly successful surfing career to raise Lilo after the death of their parents?! I mean... just damn...
17:48 it's worth noting that Hawaii has a history of their culture in many ways being banned except for where it is being performed for turists, leaving the people there with all these "fake luaus" as Nani called it. Because of the way Hawaii was colonized, even now you can see the remains of what they did, and how for the sake of turists some places still are a more performative, fake version of hawaiian culture. For what i understand, that's why Nani says what she says; and more importantly, why the writers have her say what she says. It's a call out to a specific reality.
Pudge the fish controls the weather. The adults know what happened to Lilo's parents, which is why their expressions became hurt when she said it, and also why Lilo's reaction to a doubtful insult was so sudden and violent.
Yeah her outburst totally makes more sense after realising they called her crazy for doing something directly related to her parents death.
@@thecocoacouchthat’s why Lilo making sandwich for the fish maybe in another time theres no storm will happen and never lose anyone again
How can a little alien be so destructive yet so cute at the same time?
Stitch.
That's just having kids
The real villain of this movie: Pet Store Owner
She put what she believed to be doggy roadkill in a cage with living dogs. What was the thought process there? Hey guys, I’m trying to cut costs here, so we’re gonna play zombie apocalypse! Here, eat your own kind! Pudge will have to eat tuna at some point!
Then when Lilo wanted to name it, the lady was about to shame her for picking an unusual name. What a rude move.
I mean not all animal that go into a shelter make it

I understand that you appreciated the silliness of the alien hijinks, but this is a movie that actually fascinates me way more with its realistic aspects. A nineteen-year-old kid suddenly elevated to single mom, unable to pursue her own passions if she wants what's left of her family to be able to stay together, trying like crazy to care for a pretty obviously neurodivergent and very young sister but completely unequipped to do so. Of course both sisters struggle with anger-that's what happens when you're scared because you're way out of your depth.
There's a lot of poignancy to Lilo's loneliness, and she's one of the best drawn and most realistic small children in media, weird interests, conflation of an elevated vocabulary with a complete lack of understanding of higher nuances, violence and vulnerability all together. She's great. But it's Nani I relate to. The way "Mom" is so far beyond her, her desperation, fury, resentment, and tenderness all together and all at once. I didn't ever actually have to raise my sisters. But I remember what it's like to be more responsible for them than I should have been before I was ready to be.
Sad fact: Lilo means Lost and she named him Stitch, meaning he healed her and put her back together again as she also did for him. 💔💔
5:35 so the whole thing about lilo taking pictures of tourists is a bit of a commentary about how disrespectful tourists can be towards native Hawaiians taking pictures of them like they are some tourist attraction
The cut content shows this more and is hilarious. “Tourists! Prepare for your doom!!”
Nani is an amazing sister. She didn't tell Lilo not to give Pudge the fish a sandwich, just suggested an alternate when they didn't have peanut butter because she understands how important the ritual is for her (he controls the weather, their parents went for a drive in the rain and died). She has Lilo's photo's developed despite them being of the overweight tourists (there's a deleted scene that shows more of Lilo feeling like an outsider, how she's treated as a tourist commodity in her own home, so the taking of pictures could be seen as her taking back some of that power). Didn't let Lilo take blame for Nani getting fired. Let Lilo name Stitch Stitch, did the borrowed 2 dollars thing. The singing of Aloha 'Oe
Lilo thinks that pudge the fish controls the weather because the only day she did not feed him her parents died thats why its so important for her
Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream is the best! Lilo and Stitch shows that family can be broken, or "different", but once you are a part of a family you stick together, and no one gets left behind. And love is the tie that binds. This movie is just fun, and lovable all at the same time.
Team mint ice cream doesn't taste like toothpaste
Originally Jumba's giant red ship was going to be a 747 large passanger plane, and it would be flying tightly between tall buildings, but then September 11th happened and they had to completely alter the scene to be what it is now.
Have you seen the Road to El Dorado? If not, you HAVE TO . Much recommended.
TOTALLY
YES!
I'm sure people answered but here, Lilo takes pictures of tourists because tourists are constantly taking pictures of everything else, his name is Stitch because Lilo's name essentially means mend.
Slight correction, I'm pretty sure Lilo actually means "lost" (thus Lilo & Stitch = lost and put back together)
@@chronosclaimsall Oh yeah... What the hell word am I thinking of? Does the word I'm thinking of at least close sounding?
Just realized you watched the original version. I dont know how many changes Disney did, but in newer version, Lilo doesn't hide inside the dishwasher, she hides in a weirdly edited drawer because disney didnt want kids hiding in them
She was hiding in the dryer next the washing machine.
Then changed it because kids were at risk of getting stuck in the dryer at home.
@@hilarywitt No kids were at risk of anything. 🙄 Disney decided it was "problematic" and decided to alter art which is a no no. You don't censor or change art.
The latest one I've seen, they made it into some kind of pizza storage thing. It's a big thing with a door like the dryer, but has a picture of a pizza on the door😊
@@LunaticKD1991dude shut up lmfao literally it’s one of the smallest details possible and yes, kids copied that idea ever since the movie released. Just because you never witnessed it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. You’re not the center of the universe.
Fun fact: The sound effect of the dryer door closing is still heard, despite being changed to a pizza box. So despite them making a visual edit, they still couldn't be bothered to remove and replace the sound effect to match the new edit. Dryers are made out of steel and pizza boxes are made out of cardboard and both sound very different when being closed as a result.
If you notice, when Stitch bites Gantu, he then asks if the bite is infected. Same thing happens with Mirtle when Lilo bit her, she asks her friends if the bite is infected. I just love the similarities both Lilo and Stitch have and the development both of them had in the movie!
10:46 HOLY CRAP IT"S NOT THE DISNEY+ VERSION!?!?!? In that version the dryer was replace with a random side table with a pizza box. Which really makes no sense since the reason Nani figured out Lilo was hidden in there was because she hears the dryer door close
Yeah, I'm happy someone is watching this movie the way it was originally intended to be seen.
Why was that changed? 😂 oh shit probably cuz kids saw it and went and hid in dryers. Lol
@@paulchavez3039 oh shit maybe it's because some parents are lazy as shit and don't teach their children common fucking sense anymore.
This right here is why I only *begrudgingly* subscribe to a streaming service, and even then, I still buy a dvd/bluray when I really like the movie/tv show.
I am sick of being nanny-stated from every single angle.
@@Vousie I heard that scene was altered on the Blu-ray release though.
The way you keep calling Stitch "So cute" is itself kinda cute, ngl 😄 That little "Eh!" you imitated Stitch with, was so on point!
Nani is the BEST big sister in the history . She loves lilo so much ❤
Funnily enough, I would say that this movie is the most grounded in reality. Not an epic tale, but just the very human struggle of a young woman, on the brink of Adulthood who suddenly lost everything and now has to find a way to make her new life work and a young girl who has to cope with a worldshift so monumental, she is barely ble to comprehend it.
If you thin about it for a Moment, Nani is _18._ Imagine being on the cusp of Adulthood, thinking about maybe going to college, maybe even going to the mainland, what will your future be, what job would you take - and than, suddenly it is all ripped away. Your parents re dead, you have to organise a friggin _funeral_ for them, you have to understand wills and bills and how to run a household, you have to find a job _and_ you find yourself as the sole custodian of your much younger sibling, effectively making you a the single mother of a 6 year old at _18._ Your younger sibling is clearly traumatized in her own way, lashing out, starting fights, being ostrazised by others, but you can't help her, because you didn't even ahve time to deal with your _own_ traume, much less hers. YOu strat working low paying tourist traps, just to keep the lights on and pray that you'll make it through tomorrow.
And that isn't even mentioning the fact that they are Indeginous Hawaiians having their family ripped even further apart by the American Government which comes with a whole _host_ of cultural and historical baggage (Since I haven't watched the reaction yet, I do not know if you know this, but the Song that Nani sings to Lilo "Aloha'Oe" is a song written by Queen Lili'ukoalani, the Last Queen of Hawaii as a farewell to the freedom of her people as she had no choice but to sign papers that but it under the jusritiction of the American government, after they had manouvered for years to make Hawaii economically dependend on them to force this exact scenario)
Hits harder when you realise Lilo means lost😩
lilo and stitch aka lost and put back together 😭😭😭😭❤️
@@erikaleighhh nah cuz when I found out a few years ago I had to cry a little bit😭 it was too adorable and yet so sad
@@leyaaa01 i cried just reading your comment 😭🤣 that’s the saddest yet cutest title to a movie ever

Loved this reaction! The reason Lilo takes photos of tourists is given more context when you look at a deleted scene. In the deleted scene, tourists ask her if she speaks english and treats her like a tourist attraction, as they often do to this day against the indigenous hawaiians. So it's implied that she takes the photos as a form of like, 'revenge' or just a way of treating them how they treat her!
Cool fact: Tia Carrere, who plays Nani, is a singer/actor who is actually Hawaiian. This was her first time playing the correct race; as she's played others race types in other projects
Every time a reactor says that alien looks like piglet, I'm like, calm down, it's just a cartoon pig-like alien. However, given the blue tigger at 4:14 I'm now inclined to think the resemblance is intentional.
I mean it's freaky, I'll give it that.
This movie is near and dear to my heart because my mother's side of the family is from Kauai where this takes place and there are real places that have murals to honor the movie. I still live in Hawaii and I will forever love this movie. There are so many small things like Lilo wanting to control the weather through feeding Pudge because of how her parents died. Nani has trophies from surfing and she gave it up to raise Lilo. How Lilo and stitch both bite someone. It's so good. Aloha from Hawaii! 🌺
I had no idea they had murals of this movie! That's so cool
I love how before the movie came out, the ads for it involved Stitch terrorizing other disney movies and getting the girls 😂
I always found those stupid and lame
@@lordshenfan6625 dang man, you sound like so much fun.
It comes across as strange that Lilo is so frantic about giving Pudge the fish a sandwich at the beginning, but it's actually extremely sad because she says she believes Pudge controls the weather. We later find out her parents died in a car accident in the rain so we now know she feels she has to keep that fish happy to keep people safe 😢
Since so many people below have left such great comments about the deeper meanings of this movie and family and Hawaiian culture, I'll just toss in a fun Easter Egg in case nobody else has left it yet -- in the scene where Lilo is showing Nani that Stitch can play the record through his mouth, on the wall behind Nani you can see the stylized Chinese movie poster for "Mulan" next to Nani's surf trophies and pictures!
This movie is one of the most underrated movies of all time in my opinion. I almost start sobbing every time I watch it when Nani sings to Lilo and Lilo tells Stich she’ll remember him 😢 It has way more emotional depth than it has any reason to.
That speech Stitch gives the Grand Councilwoman gets me every time: "This is my family. I found it all....on .... my own. It's little and broken, but still good. (looks back at Nani and Lilo) Yeah....still good." 🥺😭
Also, to answer a question on how David "spit" fire that I've seen a few times in other reactions: Fire dancers drink (but most importantly, don't swallow) either straight alcohol, kerosene or paraffin lamp oil from a bottle and spit it out onto the flame to make it erupt, so that's most likely what he used.
Oh my god, this has been in my head as one of the top movies I've wanted you to watch because you're so emotionally intelligent/attuned/sensitive and would love the adorable complexities of these characters and situations. (Plus you're already making your way through classic animated Disney films, so it fits perfectly!)
You asked why Lilo names him Stitch...
Well 1st you have to know that "lilo" means "lost/separated from", which makes it seem weird her parents named her that, but they probably just liked the sound of it. It's simple but rolls off the tongue easily & sounds pretty to the ear. So Lilo at the age of 8 certainly has been told at some point the meaning of her name & it's in her subconcious. When the movie starts you can tell it's only been months since the parents died, as both sisters are still adjusting. Lilo feels lost & unsure & angry due to that. As Nani tells her, others treat her "differently" because they don't know what to say to a grieving angry child. What platitude is going to make sense to an orphaned 8 yr old? That makes them uncomfortable & they withdraw, leaving her to be bullied by the classmate that has money. Lilo isn't thinking about it too deliberately, but as you see in her wish prayer she's aware she needs a friend that will help her put her life with her sister back together, make her feel stronger. She's depressed, scared Nani or someone else she cares about will die in another accident, & Nani is so stressed. They need to be "stitched" back into a whole family, & maybe adding a new member will help.
The "lost" theme also applies to many in the story if you stop to think about it.
Ooooh, its the unedited version where she still hides in the dryer 👀 😂
It’s been said that Lilo was the first Disney character on the Autism spectrum
Fun (?) Fact: originally the chase between Gantu and Jumba would take place amidst a city, with them flying a Boeing 737, but during production 9/11 happened, so they had to re-do it all with the spaceship and in the middle of nowhere.
Sad Fact: the reason Lilo gave Pudge the Fish the PB Sandwich, as you surely recall, was because he controlled the weather... her parents died during a thunderstorm in a car accident. Lilo was making sure, in her own way, that wouldn't happen again, presumably to Nani...
Yes!! Lilo & Stitch. Best music ever in this film. Elvis Presley. ❤❤
Such an underrated movie! Hope you enjoyed it
@10:48 Fun fact: In later releases, they replaced the dryer door with a pizza box cause they didn’t want kids to mimic locking themselves in there
When this movie came out we were doing a gymnastics routine to Hawaiian songs. I wouldn’t shut my mouth about Hawaiian rollercoaster ride! Lmao
They ended up changing the song so I would be quiet lol it actually worked with the routine wonderfully:)
this is my fav disney movie!!! I feel like most people do not realize what a tearjerker it is based on the silly concept
After 9/11/01, my family drove to Walt Disney World for Fall Break. The tragic event was still extremely fresh, and I suspect that people feared theme parks would be attacked next. As such, there were not very many people in attendance, allowing for such things like getting off a ride and going immediately back on because there were very short lines and the restaurants weren't very crowded so normal conversations could be heard. I have not returned and have no intention of it, not because it was sad from 9/11, but because it'll never be that not-crowded again.
At the time, there was a workshop showing off the current movie in production. It was "Lilo and Stitch." I'll always remember that and associate it with those times.
Stitch is the cutest 🥺
When i was younger people called me Lilo and i used to be annoyed with it lol
I think they said it as an insult but idc now cause i think its cute
*watching the intro that this might be a light hearted film*
Ummm sure……😅
Lmao, I had the exact same thought.
Man, I haven't seen this movie in a long time and kinda forgot how great it is. Don't get me wrong, I remember it being wonderful... but I guess what I'm trying to say is; thank you for reminding me of it. It's AMAZING!
I named my two cats Lilo and Stitch (he’s got extra digits). This movie is one of a kind just like Stitch.
The 911 attacks almost made this impossible to release and that's such a crazy detail about the movie
And that’s why the chase scene near the end is the way it is. Was originally intended to happen in Honolulu, in pretty much the same way, even crashing into a building. But of course sadly 9/11 happened and they had to redo the scene entirely.
@@calebb.6416 So in the original story, an entire city saw alien space craft flying around?
@@greywolf7577 pretty much yeah. Not sure if it would’ve been changed that much though. Just the chase itself.
They also changed the fight scene between jumba and stitch
In the original copy Junba uses the plasma rifle and a real knife
It was switched to the new scene with him using household objects
watching this movie as a kid is almost certainly what gave me my love for found family stories! i've always loved how the aliens, stitch, david, and the sisters became a little family unit during and after the events of this movie. it's so pure!
i work at a dog boarding/daycare place and we've got a regular who's a brindle french bulldog named stitch. i will say, the namesake is very apt lol
I applaud you for not being instantly exasperated at the Grand Council Woman calling Jumba and Pleakley (twice) with expectations of them having already caught Stitch/626 as many other reactors have, who basically respond with a 'just chill, lady' attitude, not really seeing the situation from her perspective, which is not great. To her, the mission, which from where she stands is basically a lit matchstick thrown in a fireworks factory, really should have been over and done with by now, the reason she made that bargain with Jumba was precisely because he could capture the destructive 626 quickly and quietly, and the longer he remained on the loose, the greater the risk of the "mass mayhem and planet-wide panic" they'd been trying to avoid from the start, let alone the fact that she had to but her faith/trust in the evil genius that created the problematic experiment in the first place, with only a nervous-looking Earth 'expert' to keep him in line
if want more Lilo and Stitch, I would highly recommend the follow-up movies and tv series, in chronological order:
Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch has a Glitch (or just Lilo and Stitch 2, depending on where you are I guess)
Stitch! The Movie (basically the start of the cartoon series)
Lilo and Stitch The Series
Leroy and Stitch (basically the series conclusion)
I love Nani and David they are really over looked especially Nani as is implied that she was very good a surfing’s from all the trophies and from what is shown she’s like 19 and is now having to parent lilo
10:48 I'm so happy that you're watching the original version where Lilo hides in the dryer...
Me too, the original way it's meant to be seen.
Is there an alternative version?
@@Celeborn93 yeah they changed it to a pizza box which is dumb imo. It should be the parent's job to teach their kids not to hide in a dryer.
@@kirara2516 Fun fact: Despite being changed to a pizza box, the sound effect of the dryer door closing is still heard in the edited version. Oh sure, let's go ahead and make a visual edit, but yet not be bothered to replace the sound effect to accommodate the new edit.
@@kirara2516 That sucks lol. Man this cotton parent culture is tiring.

My favorite Disney movie ever!!! This one's for the weird kids.
I love that Lilo didn't question how he was riding the bike so fast & making it around the island stupid fast
Grew up watching this and love it and the second movie plus the original TV series that lead up to the third movie called Leroy and stitch
#2 favorite Disney movie (after Tangled)
This is my husband’s favorite movie.
The neuro divergent queen Lilo!
Lilo and Stitch was released in 2002. This was a big year for the girl who did the voice work for Lilo. This movie was a big box office hit, she was an actress playing a key character in another hit film released in 2002:
She was the evil girl, Samara (the demon girl who crawled out of the television) in The Ring.
I had a Miniature Schnauzer for 15 years
He looked just like Stitch, but black and white instead of blue
Their mannerisms were similar too
This show actually birthed a whole series and several specials involving further adventures of the characters.
Most notably it's revealed that since Stitch is 'Experiment 626', Jumba has a container holding dormant capsuls containing the other 625 creature creations he's made over the years. Each with different powers and abilities. And when the capsules are scattered across the island Lilo is charged with finding them all and giving them homes and a purpose.
The best part about Lilo and Stitch was the way Disney started marketing it.
They put Stitch in other disney movies, the three I remember is Aladdin, Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.
It has nothing to do with the movie AT ALL it was just starting the marketing for the character.
It did work as Stitch got sequels, a TV series, his own park ride (I think it got replaced not too sure) and he's also a very popular character in China and they made their OWN TV series.
No way you laughed almost in sync with Stitch when he came out of the crash!!!!
Originally, Stitch, Jumba, Nani and Pleakley was going to hijack a Boeng 747 to chase Captain Gantu and the chase was going to going through the capitol of the island but then 9/11 happened which forced Chris Sanders and the others to change the 747 into Jumba's ship and change the setting among the mountains of the island (plus having the ice cream guy gag be set near a river, showing that his ice cream isn't safe anywhere) and adding the bit where Jumba reveals his ship. This happened late in production, just half a year before the movie's release in 2002.
Nani = prettiest Disney character imo.
If you want some really good Disney Animation, I highly recommend Princess and the Frog if you haven't seen it
The way you nailed the impression of Stitch going "eh" at 32:35... that was so adorable 😂

Mint chocolate chip ice cream tastes like frozen thin mint girl scout cookies to me.
Lilo is the girl character energy we need today. Just uniquely herself with legit flaws not just adorkable quirks. She just feels so much like a specific kid you could know with her own fixations and priorities.
I ❤ Lilo and Stitch٫ it's one of my sister's favorite movies lmao 😂😂😂

You HAVE TO watch the sequels to this movie: Stitch (which is like a pilot for the tv show), Lilo and Stitch: the TV Series, Lilo and Stitch 2 (takes place during tht tv series), and Leroy and Stitch (basically a finale for the tv series)
Here is the end to the mint flavor toothpaste debate. Toothpaste… IS FLAVORED. If you dont like mint, dont get mint! Get bubble gum. Because mint is a normal flavor for people to enjoy! Do people not like lemon because of cleaning products
This is my favorite Disney movie! 😊The soundtrack is great and Stitch is adorable and hilarious!
I saw this when I was younger, but it kind of went over my head and somehow I didn't connect with it despite being in somewhat similar situation (while my parents were alive, it was my sisters that really raised me). I find it very emotional now and can connect with it better.
I had completely forgotten about Lilo and Stich glad you didn’t.
I want to know more about the Grandcouncil Woman and Agent Bubble’s history in 1972, convincing aliens not to destroy the planet
Fun/not fun fact. They were originally supposed to fly through a city at the end , not mountains. But then 9-11 happened so they changed the scenery
Think the original ending was also supposed to have them hijack an airplane, not fly the red spaceship. Pretty clear why they changed that detail….
@@DataGirl3 you’re correct, I think you’re able to find the original footage somewhere on the Internet.

Holy shit you got the unedited version!? In the original Lilo climbs into a clothes dryer but was later edited to a table and pizza box due to a rash of kids crawling into them and getting hurt from them being turned on.
Im guessing that is the version offered outside the US. Ive seen that dryer version on a few recent reactions.
Literally no kids did that.
Disney just arbitrarily decided it was problematic and censored it.
No kids were doing it after watching this movie. 🙄
Lilo & Stitch is one of my favorite Disney animated movies.
Stitch is my favorite alien. 👽
my favorite movie Stitch has Style the red one
Its crazy how 9/11 effected so many movies. There were originally flying through the city but it was changed last minute to the mountains
I love that Bubbles just casually saved the world once.
When Lilo tells Stitch about her parents and then asks him "What happened to yours?" The LOOK on his face, knowing he doesn't even know / think he has any, so sad.
this movie was a huge part of my childhood, back then i would watch it at least once every month, it's been like maybe 15 years at least since the last time i watched it, god i forgot how much i love it
Lilo & Stitch is the first of the new Disney movies as Lilo is pudgy and before this movie Disney had impossibly thin people. It's quite interesting to think about it. After this movie Disney went with much more realistic people.
This film is SO UNDERRATED! I remember seeing this in Theaters, and then we got it on VHS when was released at the time with VHSs.
A piece of trivia I don't see mentioned yet; The final chase sequence originally involved a hijacked earth airplane, but after 9/11 they quickly overlaid it with a spaceship before release.
When this movie came out my best friend went through a really hard breakup with her fiancé. A couple of times I had to stop her from unaliving herself, and it usually consisted of me putting her in my car and going to the theater to watch this movie. It got her through hard times and gave us some good memories in a dark time.
The advertisements for this movie were awesome when Stitch kept interrupting other Disney universes like Aladdin's "A Whole New World" for example.
