I was so privileged to spend over 4 hours with this amazing man and his gracious wife. It was a birthday treat and so much fun. Gavin and Sam made my partner and I feel so welcome at their new home. We ended up with some terrific images and now have the memory of a truly wonderful day. If you ever get the opportunity to learn in person from Gavin, then please, go for it.
Having no dancers to shoot in 2020 lockdown I turned to tabletop photography and I was surprised how all the different techniques kept me engaged in lighting solutions...LOVE your work...loved meeting you at Adorama in NYC several years ago!
Hi Gavin - I'm trying to do some rim lighting on glassware. I have a strobe light but I can't get the wireless trigger to work. I tried using the strobe on constantly but it just gives too much light, and there's a ton of reflections of the ambient light on the glassware. Is it essential to have the trigger? Is there that much difference between a constant light source and a flash? And do you know if one brand trigger would work with a different brand light? i.e. a Godox trigger with a Phottix strobe? Thanks for your amazing level of knowledge and the fact that you've made it available to the likes of me :-)
Very useful information. The light coming from behind makes a "sun dog" effect on your scrim other than photoshop, what can you do to eliminate it? The Spiffy light looks interesting. Thanks Gavin and Sam!
Hi Alan. It's the weave of the material that creates that effect. You can often get around it by double diffusing but that takes up space and uses up light. The other way is to use a non woven material. Tracing paper, frosted perspex or translum are all things I've found work well.
Hi there , just discovered you through Olympus , love your videos can I ask how do you use a lighting stand to you be a good table ? , do you sync with Olympus capture ? To what software. . Lots more a quick this is how I do this please , thanks Colin
Blew me away with the unexpected Convex Lens Equals Inverted Offset Colors! 💥 Wow, loved that! So a 2nd glass of water in front of the 1st glass would invert back to un-inverted, huh? 😲 Thanks for another great video. Hey, P.S. I just found where you tackled this on 4.23.2020. I'll watch it now... Water Reversal Photography: Take and Make Great Photography with Gavin Hoey.
Hi Sam. Yes it is. The Bi-Color KYU-6 seems to be out of stock but you can pick up the previous version (look & work the same) www.essentialphoto.co.uk/product/lumee-bi-colour-led-light-bracelet or there's the colourful RGB Spiffy Gear KYU-6 amzn.to/35TB9XS
Watching this wonderful video years later !! Even though I started watching Gavin when he used to shoot with a Canon 60d. I moved to Olympus too. Anyone here has any idea how to use a light stand as a makeshift table as Gavin does her? Sounds like a great idea for people like me with very limited space.

Could you have set your white balance for the glass to get the exposure??. Eric of Pa.

Hi, I would like to ask about your background (textured gray) is that fixed or removable? Can you share the details for that? Thanks.
Great video Gavin Hoey
Thanks Kirsty. Working on the next one already 👍
@@GavinHoey your welcome
Is it possible to purchase the Spiff-y light here in the UK?

It's inspiring sir great work
Love your videos 👍
could someone explain how to add the background so easy please?
Pixapro tell me that they do not sell black perspex/acrylic sheets. Do you know of other retailers, please?
That's a shame. Never fear, Amazon to the rescue! amzn.to/3fooxez
Thanks Gavin. Please keep up the excellent work.
"What if you don't have a blue bottle?"
If you're working with clear bottles, fill with water and add food coloring.
You'll turn the bottle into a lens so the effect will be different but different isn't always a bad thing 😉
@@GavinHoey True, but since there's nothing but BG behind the bottle, you're not "lensing" anything.
@@nathandavis5099 You're always "lensing" something, in this case it would be the background and sounding area. Give it a go.
