Some 10 years ago I started watching your videos. Your unique style and playfulness captured me immediately. After many years I still remembered your name and found you again. Thank you!
I love your videos. I had saved your “How To Photograph A Splash Of Water” tutorial five years ago and had recently rewatched it for my book cover I am doing. Please don’t stop making videos because you have one of the best photography tutorials out there.
Hi Patty. It does make a difference (I ran out of time before I got to cover this). Just like the aperture inside the lens, the smaller the hole the less light gets through and the smaller the bokeh. However go to big and the effect isn't seen at all. The size needed varies for each lens, so no simple answer other then testing and fine tuning.
Hi Marcus. I haven't used UV light (aka black light) in a photo shoot but I've seen some great results. If you go down that route make sure the type of UV you're using is safe for you and more importantly, your model.
You can make a snoot with a piece of card wrapped around your light, tapered to taste. Hold together with durex (in the sixties, in Australia, Durex was like Sellotape), hold on with sticky tape or lacky band.
Excellent work. May l ask, what is the name of the small light stand that you used to mount your studio flash onto? I'm looking for a low stand and that one fits the bill nicely - could you let me know the make/name if possible, please? Thank you, Su :)
Hi Su. I've just updated the video description with a link to the light stand. It's a solid stand that will outlast any camera or flash that I own... and probably outlast me! amzn.to/3pd4kvq
Gavin- Love your videos. I previously tried the Bokeh after viewing your holiday bokeh video, and I was disappointed in some of my "shaped" results because the Bokeh shapes get cut up and deformed when moving away from the center of the frame. is this normal and why does it happen, and how can you avoid it. Many times when we see shaped bokeh, all of the shapes are pretty close to perfect.
Hi Ralph. Yes it's normal. Perfectly centered boken cutouts is the answer and in my experience VERY tricky to nail! I have a suspicion that some photographers out there might use post processing tricks to improve their photos 😉
@@GavinHoey After spending hours on trying to eliminate them, it was my suspicion that they were copying them in post. It really came home when I was watching a tv program and saw the distorted bokeh on the sides. Thanks again.
Gavin - I follow you on Instagram. You often state that links to some of your images & videos can be found in your "bio." I have no idea where to find your bio. Can you direct me? In particular, you have most recently posted a few images of 24 cut-out white hearts plus one red heart. I would really love to see your video or info on how you created these. They are outstanding! Thank you.
I hate to say this, but the higher elevation shot of the marble on the book renders an image that is more than reminiscent of a part of the female anatomy ... which might be OK for Valentine's Day. 🤣🤣🤣

Gavin keep making videos. This don’t make you money, but man are they the best! Everything you do is taught with expert knowledge.

I owe you a thank you not for this but for the video saving custom brushes.
Magnífico vídeo! Muchas gracias!! Saludos desde Marmolejo (Jaén - Spain)
I have a wedding to shoot in November. The heart cutout on the lens is a great idea!
Thank you, Gavin and Sam! Always fun, always interesting, and always something new to try!
Gavin, last of the great romantics 😁😋. You aced it again with this tutorial 👍
This is so cool! I may need to try this soon, but with a diamond and star shape cutout!
I love this! Thank you! Does it matter what size the heart shape is for the cut out?

Love your work Gavin!
Have you ever done photography with black lights? The ones that makes white fabric kinda glow blue.

Hi Gavin I have a question how do you power your smoke machine on outside shoots ? I have a shoot coming up but no electricity!
Short answer John... we don't :(

Great video Gavin
Thanks Kirsty 👍
@@GavinHoey Your welcome Gavin

Wow
I have a question. If the light bulb is tilted, shouldn't the heart filter on the lens be tilted too?
That'll be down to artistic interpretation Diana 😉
👍♥️
A ring works better in a book.
Also you may not have noticed your C-Stand arm is upside down.
Me gusta mucho tu canal pero antes podía traducir lo que decías y hoy no . ser problema de UA-cam?
Maybe not configured for Spanish subtitles?
