Yeah he wrote man on the moon and another big hit or two. He wrote a lot in the band and played instruments besides drums on the records. Talented guy.
Phenomenal drummer and musician. R.E.M started to go downhill after he left. He pretty much played every instrument and was an underestimated vocalist. And helped write most of their best songs. 'Find The River' is a perfect example.
Everytime they got back together to play these occasional events, the "three-legged dog" as Michael Stipe described R.E.M. after Bill's departure, became four-legged again, even if for a short, sweet while.
R.E.M. and New Order are two of the scant bands that have had the gall to use a picture of their drummer as the cover to their best records (Life's Rich Pageant and Lowlife, respectively).
Wow. This brings back some memories-was there in the same room. Peter sounded under mixed even then. This was the first time that I actually could clearly pay attention to Bill's drums on BTB. Seeing all four back together and with Gregg Allman was an experience!! I can see what Peter was talking about though. It's got to be unbelievably sad on these special occasions.
I like Bill Berry’s drumming. He’s so dynamic and punchy. I can tell the difference when it’s not him playing. They lost the foundation they built the house on after he left. It’s just like Stipe said they were a three legged dog afterwords and it’s just not the same.
He's always looked like that. Even back in the early days. He looks like he's struggling because he's playing rock music with a swing feel. Kind of like a cross between punk rock and Motown. He and Mike have been playing together since high school They are locked together and in the pocket. One of the greatest rhythm sections of all time...
great to see the original 4 back again! strangely, peter buck has a different opinion. he said once in an interview that he finds it quite sad and slightly awkward when bill rejoins them on stage because it's obvious that his (bills) heart is no longer in it like it once was. i'm sure they loved belting this one out like old times though!
@@ClueSign Oh, it was a reference to when they made the announcement Bill was leaving the band. He was talking about how hard a decision it was because he'd been pounding the tubs since he was none years old.
@@Aristotle2000 I miss REM. The last time I saw them was at Jones Beach Theater during a thunderstorm in 2008. Modest Mouse opened, and J Marr mentioned this show in his book. The stadium seats got struck by lightening, and the show was delayed. Half the people left, and REM came out about an hour and a half later and opened with Credence, then went on to play two and a half hours.
The 4 of them. Greatest rock band ever.
Bill is so important in this band!
Yeah he wrote man on the moon and another big hit or two. He wrote a lot in the band and played instruments besides drums on the records. Talented guy.
We miss Bill Berry!!!
+salozmen29 Bill Berry forever!
Berry is the one of them... it is like a family. One leaves and he is so missed
Awesome, how the guys still get together and play every once in a while!!

True , Bill Berry did everything himself. The others just mimed.
they some great work though post bill.
Berry is a beast and maybe their best track ever
Those drums! Bill Berry. The best.
Everytime they got back together to play these occasional events, the "three-legged dog" as Michael Stipe described R.E.M. after Bill's departure, became four-legged again, even if for a short, sweet while.
That 3 legged dog still had a mean bite in songs like "Bad Day" and "Man-Sized Wreath".
Bill ❤

REM is STIPE, MILLS, BUCK AND don't forget BERRY
i think Bill Berry favourite song. this reason is why REM perform this song with Bill Berry in 2006 :)))
❤heart full but wordless.

Bill Berry played of his ass this entire performance. As he did in others. Priceless
old people rocking that will be me in a few years
BILL MADE R.E.M. !!!
Their greatest album.
Murmur was far better!
Agree
Life’s Rich Pageant is also my favourite album of theirs.
That's a powerful drummer behind the drumset! Go Bill!
Peter Buck always had the coolest moves and real attitude needed to be a band’s lead guitarist.
Gives me goosebumps 🔥
Great to see a video of R.E.M with Bill Berry doing what he does best..........
oh my God Bill sounds awesome ......this guy is amazing
Good gawd they were good live. Wow.
OMG!!! Bill Berry is the greatest, Thank you Heidi!!!!!
glad to see bill berry playing the drums!
Bill Berry was SO important to REM. When he left, the band was never the same nor as good. Same with Moon and the Who.
I like Bill Berry’s drumming. He’s so dynamic and punchy. I can tell the difference when it’s not him playing. They lost the foundation they built the house on after he left.
It’s just like Stipe said they were a three legged dog afterwords and it’s just not the same.
SOOO cool to see Bill!!
It must've taken a lot of practice to look that uncoordinated and yet still manage to perform his drum work perfectly. Kudos, Bill Berry.
He looked pretty damn coordinated to me.
It's a drum pattern that's all over the kit, but it works for the song!
He's always looked like that. Even back in the early days. He looks like he's struggling because he's playing rock music with a swing feel. Kind of like a cross between punk rock and Motown. He and Mike have been playing together since high school

Weird to think that was 20 odd years after they released LRP and now it’s just 20 years again after that!
is this one of REM's best or what??

I have seen pretty recent videos of Bill and Peter playing guitar together and both are smiling and having a good time!
Warms my heart.
Best American Band ever. Sorry, but not sorry.

i also enjoy see Bill Berry on drums :)
this turns me into butter
Oh yeah!
Where is Pete's guitar? I can barely hear it.
Dreadful sound engineering. Amazing drumming!
I felt after Berrys Departure the bands consistancy of quality took a nose dive
I feel Berry and Mills are very underrated in general.
Yeah, the guitar just disappears.
All drums in the mix!
yes
turn up the f'n guitar!
you are very welcome :)
yes I agree :)
you are very welcome :))))
yes i agree :)
fender :D
“This is gonna be loud…”
i really love your comment :))))
It’s so funny seeing an ultra hip band playing in front of such a buttoned up crowd here. 😂
smoking!!!!
Any questions? They are just better and when Bill is drumming it just means more.
That guy in the back with the unibrow looks like some guy who's been pounding the tubs since he was nine years old or something.
It's the original drummer, Bill Berry. If you were trolling, well, you got me.
@@ClueSign Oh, it was a reference to when they made the announcement Bill was leaving the band. He was talking about how hard a decision it was because he'd been pounding the tubs since he was none years old.
heidi thaks for sharing :)
What event is this that would bring Bill Berry out of retirement? Wish I was there.
2006 Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards in Atlanta GA.

Buck tech issues. Love that this sounds a bit rough.
@SmileRelaxAttack thank you. i do not know word in english :)))
Band sounds tight, the sound guy has no clue
Fuck I miss The Nineties.
This song was from Life’s Rich Pageant which came out in 1986.
Rapid Ear Movement.

@leefoster222 yes it is :))
con bill berry es otra cosa .... y sin bill berry era como un perro con tres patas ... grande bill
REM cover band idea: BILL BERRY'S BROW
Love it.
Is this the GA hall of fame ceremony?
@kisut7 Bill have brain tumor in Lausanne 1995. he decide to quit REM afterwards.
heidigretel it was an aneurysm
I've always thought the drums sounded the best on Lifes Rich Pageant.
why bill out from REM?
@heidigretel why bothering replying to that numpty? even any half r.e.m fan/music fan should know that
REM AND Bill Berry.......PARDON ME???
This crowd dont deserve rem
That crowd grew up listening to R.E.M.
Mike’s bass sounds awful
not very insurgent
Michael Stipe got embarrassing way after we knew he was gay. Big rock star life style is f'd.
you are very welcome :)
