There's a limitation that is not called out on the website or product information sheet. You need at least 6' of free space on either side of your saw blade to calibrate. If you have a custom workstation setup like the one I built and cannot move your saw you will not be able to use this device if you have less than 72" on either side of the blade. I found this out during the calibration video and now have to return the device. Hope this helps someone else out in making informed buying decisions.

Still watching the rest of the video while typing this. When you compared the time spent to make the 10 inch cuts usig the M1 vs tape measure. It was difference in speed of about 21 seconds. The tape measure took about 5 secs per cut x 4 cuts gets you to exactly the different between the two measures. However, most of us would use a stop block to repeat those cuts. I do realize though that depending on the actual length of cut you may not always be able to use a stop block when on a job site. Most times you will be able to by switching the stop block from one side of the miter saw fence to the other. In a shop where many of us have a miter station and tape measure built into a fence and stop blocks on both sides of the miter station, I don't see this being that much of a time saver. I did also notice that you have to be careful to make sure you hit the 10 inches when sliding that board under the wheel on the M1. If you set a stop block instead of the M1, you don't have to stop and keep an eye on anything for the most part. I am thinking maybe a stop block set right as I set the M1 for the first cut. Then I just don't have to eyeball that M1 anymore for repeat cuts.
Hey Robert, yes if you have a shop with a stop block capability, the time difference changes slightly. In this application, the M1 shines when in the field and you don't have the luxury of making stop blocks (unless you have a very expensive stand but still may take longer) or when you need to make a variety of cuts even if they are slightly different sizes where a stop block wont work. The M1 certainly cannot replace everything but does have many applications where it makes taking measurements significantly easier!
It would be great if you had a supporting app or something that allows you to input your whole cut list so that you can then reel them off cut after cut. I know that you can do this just from looking at your paper cut list but to do it through the m1 would be a cool feature and it would make it even more appealing to buyers!
The kerf of the cut may be bigger than the thickness of the blade. If so do you forsee any issues with accuracy? I guess at the end of the day you have to specify the offset whether it's the blade thickness or kerf and its up to the user to come up with that number?
Yes, measuring the kerf is certainly better than measuring the blade thickness (and will be more accurate). We rely on the user to collect this measurement and is pretty straightforward to do and adjust if any inaccuracies are seen in the cuts
And if it were, how much length will it record continuously? Would it be capable of running 1200 feet of board if that material was well surfaced and free of dust?
@@youngcrxw9983 hey Elijah, there is no external communication port on the M1. Hey Araw, the speed is comparable (if not better) in many cases on the M1 as well as works in a portable setup where you may not have the ability to clamp a block at a given point
Hello! Not directly and most saw fences are not high enough to support that amount of travel for the arm. If you really wanted to, you could make your own adapter piece that attached to the fence with enough clearance for the arm to work in which case it should be no problem!
