    It's ridiculous, but there are no 4 out audio interfaces for DJs without the other bullshit like inputs for recording, phantom power, MIDI, etc that makes sound cards huge in size and overpraised.

    • @rpaulseymour
      @rpaulseymour Рік тому +1

      Yeah… I’ve been searching for hours. These just don’t exist and no one makes audio interfaces for djs anymore. I don’t get it. And this is years later. What happened? I’d kill for that Griffin.

  • @DanceDude73

    I agree with everything he said about the NI Audio 2. Plus I've had the sound drop out several times while playing, when I moved the interface for various reasons. What happens is the mirco usb on the interface has pressure from side to side and the sound drops, even with the lightest of pressure. Then I usually have to reboot Traktor or play with the audio settings. I wish I hadn't bought it. Another DJ friend stopped using his due to the amount of crackling sound.

    What if I wanted to use the audio coming from my Android's headphone jack, as a sampling source to an audio interface to a Toraiz SP16's input?
    (Because the SP16 doesn't allow me to play audio files that are longer than 64 seconds)
    Which audio interface would be my best option?

    • @ExStaticBass
      @ExStaticBass 8 років тому

      Just make sure you download the latest drivers for the device. If you get any playback issues like clicking or popping, play around with the bitrate and sample rate until you find the right combination. If you find it necessary to run it in 16 bit mode, don't worry because the people your playing for will never notice. Most party people aren't audiophiles. The Audio2 Mk2 is a great device. I use it myself with Traktor Pro S3.

    The entire portable music community is screaming for a portable audio interface that can power the ipad with lightning. The bigger things like the scarlet dock can do it so we know its possible over lightning. People are deliberately staying on 30 pin dock ipads because of this issue in some cases. You need power. You can't rely on battery in a live environment.

    What about Steinberg UR 22? Is it possible to use it for internal mixing just like this three soundcards? I realise there is only one stereo output, but can I use headphones jack output as channel 3 and 4 for cue? Or will I see only channel 1 and 2 avalible in output routing preferences? [Traktor Pro 2.6 OSX]

    • @Mojaxx
      @Mojaxx 10 років тому

      I'm not too familiar with the UR22, but as it does only have 2 outputs (meaning a single stereo output), you won't be able to pre-cue your mix with it.
      Any of these three interfaces reviewed here will be much more useful for DJing purposes.

    The crackling your experiencing is most likely due to a bitrate mismatch. Honestly if your going to do videos like this, you should know these things. If this is something you know about, it might have been good to include all the things you tried to fix the issue. As to the fact that you made no mention of it, I am left to assume you don't.
    While it could be processor related, I seriously doubt it. I use the Traktor Audio2 Mk2 unit myself with no issues on any device I've ever hooked it up to, even iPads. My advice is to play with the playback bitrate and see if it solves the issue. Though the device is capable of 24bit sound, it may run better at 16bit. The difference between the two is almost imperceptible from the crowd's perspective. You may also want to play with the sample rate if changing the bitrate doesn't work. If you've already tried all this and still have the issue, then it's the iPad bottlenecking the whole operation and not much can be done about that. I've been in the business for 20+ years and I've learned to work around things like this when necessary.
    This is also why I don't use iPads for a job you should really be using a computer for. The older ones weren't really designed for this kind of external peripheral. The newer ones aren't much better. Also, any time you use something that's dependant on battery life it's a fail. If your set goes longer than you expected and you don't have enough charge to see you through people are going to notice when the music stops. I've seen this kind of fail in person and what some crowds will do to a performer is not pretty. If you have to use an Apple product then use a Macbook Pro or one of their small form factor PCs. Personally I use an MSI Dragon GT70 with WIndows 8 and it works flawlessly. It has plenty of USB ports and 4 hours of battery life though I always have it plugged in. I don't want to hear that "Macs are better" speech because I've use both and the only real difference is price. It's all in how you set it up and what software you use.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 10 років тому

      Mini USB plugs usually sit rather tight, so it should be OK. On the other hand, ANY USB cables need to be arranged neatly out of reach. It's very easy to damage the USB socket in a laptop if you yank the cable! And then you're gonna have a really bad time.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 10 років тому

      All of these cards are output only, no inputs. These are useless to your purpose.
      The cheapest single device that will suit your purpose that i can think of would be Mixvibes U-Mix 44, which has 4-channel input and 4-channel output. Also check out Numark StereoIO.
      One curious soundcard that i think is worth mentioning is Terrasoniq Phase X64. It costs extremely little nowadays, is well made, has a ton of features, can do everything you can think of and then some, for dozens of recording and playback scenarios. It has MIDI ports, you can build a small synthesizer right into it, it does turntables and CDJs (up to two stereo inputs), it can do microphones and instruments, you name it. But it has wonky drivers, and the chart explaining the huge array of tiny cryptic switches will take up a whole wall, it's the most complex device that you could possibly make on a handful of square inches, so prepare for a degree of frustration. This is probably the most German soundcard in the universe, and is very reminiscent of prior items developed by same engineers under a different brand. Considering these engineers keep going bankrupt once every 2 years, i'm not sure how long this device will be supported though.
      A cheaper solution would be two soundcards, like Behringer UCA series or blue extruded aluminum 7ch Chinese USB soundcards, which have a single 2-channel (stereo) input each.
      Please be aware that many DJ software doesn't allow the use of third-party soundcards for license reasons, and this restriction is enforced technically.

    how can the griffin be a dj audio interface when it only has one stereo phono output?

    • @Wuppie62
      @Wuppie62 5 років тому

      It has 1 stereo output for your mains/loudspeakers and another stereo output for your headphones. It can handle 2 stereo input (so 4 channels) signals, coming from the 2 decks in your DJ software/app. Your DJ software/app can send the signal from 1 deck to the L+R RCA output, while you can pre-listen/cue the other deck with your headphone.

    so question cuz I'm a total noob can I hook my 2 turntables up to the mixer then hook the mixer to the sound card or do I have to hook everything to the soundcard?

    • @oldskoolhead0
      @oldskoolhead0 7 років тому

      with these sound cards there are no inputs for turntables you would require a native instruments a6 for vinyl control with traktor scratch, with these cards the sound is output from computer via usb to 2 outputs to your mixer, the traktor scratch a6 or a10 have inputs also for turntables with time code control, if you just want to be able to play standard vinyl on the turntables and mp3's seperately with no timecode control then you would just hook up your turntables to the mixer as normal and hook the soundcard (audio 2 or reloop play etc) to the computer usb with the outputs going to 2 seperate channels on the mixer, then you could play music on 4 channels 2 from vinyl and 2 from pc but you would have no timecode control of the pc side, of course you would be able to change pitch etc on screen controls but this is not ideal for mixing but ok if you just want to play unmixed tracks from vinyl and mp3

      if im understanding what you are trying to achieve right, you have soundcard but not enough channels to route the sampler? some software allows the use of multiple soundcards but im afraid im not familiar with serato or rekordbox ive always used traktor scratch or vdj plus if the sampler requires an input signal from timecode this would not work as these cards have no input, if the sampler only requires an output then it may work you would just have to set it up in audio preferences but this is providing the software allows the use of multiple soundcards which im sure a google search will provide the answer to this

    I haven't had issues with the Audio 2 mk2 on my ipad mini retina. It even runs entirely off of the iPad's power. I've no idea why you're having so much trouble, but I'd suspect it's because your iPad is an older version, and you've got it jailbroken.

    • @Mojaxx
      @Mojaxx 10 років тому

      I did also test it with other iPads too, after having those issues.
      Performance and compatibility on iOS just isn't consistent enough, especially given that the DJ Connect, and NI's own Kontrol Z1, perform flawlessly with every iDevice I've tried (including my jailbroken iPad 2).
      Glad it's working out for you though. But I would be remiss if I didn't point out the issues that might affect some users.

      What does jailbroken mean?

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 10 років тому

      suffist PC operating systems (both Windows and OS X) are open to third-party software and are not "jails", they are flexible and allow installing any third-party software, even such that would modify the operating system.
      Android allows installation of unlicensed third-party software, but the programs themselves are "jailed" (proper term: "sandboxed"), they cannot modify the operating system or interfere with each other. Removing this restriction is called "rooting". Rooted device may or may not receive manufacturer operating system updates. Some devices can be rooted by leveraging an official mechanism, while others require hackers to find exploitable bugs in the base operating system.
      Apple iOS devices, like iPhone and iPad are completely "jailed". Not only are programs forbidden from modifying the system itself, you are also restricted to applications published on Apple App Store. Apple decides what kinds of applications the developers are allowed to publish, and their terms are rather restrictive. Modifying the operating system to circumvent this restriction is commonly called "jailbreaking". This is performed exclusively by finding and exploiting bugs in the operating system. Jailbreak will not survive updates, and indeed it takes hackers some time to find a way to jailbreak a new iOS version, so system updates are generally not available on jailbroken devices. But on a jailbroken device, you can use third-party software to add or replace operating system features, beyond what can be done by officially published apps, or add support for third-party hardware.
      This reviewer has jailbroken his iPad in order to modify the operating system to allow video recording of the screen content.
