I went ahead and purchased the same monitor brand and model thanks to this video. Thank you Sir. I think Yaesu uses older technology for certain items such as the monitor output to keep costs low and also help us using cheaper hardware such as old fashioned monitors. I think they could have gone with VGA too, wouldn´t matter. HDMI has other functions that we would never need in this type of thing. 73 de W4BTK. Enjoy your tea!
Yaesu maybe should have used HDMI for ease of use but obviously the license would have cost them. DVI is more than good enough though for a Radio display. Thanks M3VWN

Yes it has probably caused them more problems than it’s worth and literally for the sake of a few extra dollars/pounds for a HDMI license. Thanks for visiting the channel.
Definitely not worth the risk. The issue is hdmi straight through cables wont block hdmi bi directional voltage comands that a modern tv might send into the radio. I think some hdmi only monitors might be safe but im not finding out. I called yaesu on my new ft710 and like the 10 they recommended either use dvi d monitors or some sort of multi converter box unit. I picked up a dell 19 inch pc monitor from local goodwill thriftstore $7.49 and a $12 dvi d sheilded 10 foot cable from my local pc recycling store. Ive noticed on my 710 the resolution is ok on monitor but not as sharp as radio. Good video and similar prices in states on amazon. 73 from kg7hvr

You can use a hdmi monitor as long as your dvi d to hdmi lead is unidirectional and not bidirectional. The fuse that blows in the radio is a surface mount and not a conventional type.
You could but those are normally USB powered and most folk won’t be using anything like them. Also by the time you pay for that cable this monitor is not a lot more. I see recently this fuse issue has been addressed in the FT710 with the use of a Polyphasor resetting fuse as well as a bit of ESD protection.
