Sad News, New Radio Toys and a Giveaway!
As it has been close to a month since i last posted any content i thought i should show my face with a short update.
If i am honest it has been quite a sad month, firstly getting told off the Vet Rosie had a matter of weeks to live then within two weeks she passed away, literally in front of me too which was a surreal experience.
God knows why but this hit me quite hard, dare i say as much as a human loss.
Anyway a couple of weeks ago i picked up a Vibroplex morse key and a Yaesu ATAS 120 mobile antenna that i will do separate future videos showing setting them up and also in use.
Also around a month ago i finally made a 1000 subscribers so big thanks.
Here is the link to the giveaway video from around when i first started making content so be sure to subscribe, like and comment on that old video if you want to be in with a chance.

How To Install T&K Brackets and Mast for Amateur/ CB Radio Antennas
I cannot see why Yaesu etc should not be allowed to offer 27MHz TX on their radios within the country's CB Radio Rules. In Australia, 4 Watts AM and 12 Watts SSB PEP. If the FT 710 could do that without this mod, I would be happy. I have an AX144 with no mods or extra power and I can talk across Australia on SSB easily at the moment.
@@stewheelie7874 I guess they could but i doubt anyone would pay Yaesu money for a 27mhz only radio. A lot are using these for 11m but most probably not within their countries rules. Yaesu don’t seem to care, same as the retailers who offer the modifications. I do see your point though.
Im trying to learn as well
I might do a basic series in the future showing my journey as i think it will take a good few years to master even to a steady level.

Thanks Rob, You’re definitely right saying they’re members of the family.
Hi Neil.. is this a S0239 coupling for the pl259 plug.
These are the usual male SO239 mount fitment Glenn, so basically the antenna is a PL259 that fits SO239 mounts if you get me.
@@gtretroworldYeah so it's basically the same as screwing up a normal base fed dipole like a half wave.. Im Going to order one later today but I live in a bungalow and wondering just how obnoxious it will look when up in the air 😂 What do you think are they too much or are they not that bad in size..? My neighbours aren't an issue I just don't want anything to obstructive.
@@DeltaXray444 Ignore the Above Glenn as i thought you were referring to my latest Video with the ATAS 120. I didn’t even look where the question originated from in studio 😂. So yes just the usual PL259 plug to the antennas SO239, as for the size put it this way you’re not going to find anything smaller unless it is trapped.
@@gtretroworld I meant to ask you the antenna in the instructions says it's set for centre frequency.. do you know what channel that is and what the swr is. Im Not sure if you mentioned it in the video or I may have got cross wires.. Also sorry to be a pain in the ass.. if the antenna is set up as per the instructions is there any need to cut the ends or is that necessary.. I've only ever put up a five element before but it was a mates and everything was pre marked with a black marker pen so the swr was set, I've never taken a new one and assembled it so im a little fuzzy headed as to what to cut or not to cut 🤷🏼♂️ help me out buddy I've only been on the radio 47 years and im a nube. 😂
@@DeltaXray444 I set mine for my requirements for 10/11m but it was quite a tight bandwidth, worked extremely well with a quick tune of the ATU though. I cut it for around 27.800mhz at 1.1. Unless you plan on using 10m i would drop the centre a good chunk lower. Hope this helps.
Expansion done! The FT works perfectly on all possible frequencies, as well as its ATU. Thank you.

Thanks…I should really do a video with the H3 & H8 testing harmonics, maybe one for the future.
You are supposed to talk into this mic from the top, not the sides right? I thought you were supposed to talk into the "front" like most condenser mics, but when you took off the windscreen it looks like you are supposed to talk into the top like an SM57 dynamic mic. Does anyone know? Talk into the top, or front?
@@ozzcows That is a very good question as it looks strange in design but if you look closer the mic element is in the front and very directional. I run this with a lot of gain as i hate bending over to talk into it which then invites side noise. Ideally it needs to be on a boom and directly in front of you. Maybe i should do it few audio demos. Edit: Just noticed i was supposed to do a few voice demos a while back for a viewer so i will organise something.
Horrible radio Crap instruction book Should be banned from the market.
I have used this numerous times and it actually performs really well. Unsure about banning it but you’re well within your right to dislike it.
Horrible radio Should be banned from the market
Could i ask what you dislike about it?
In a word , EVERYTHING Crappy sounding microphone Ridiculous instruction manual Mine would literally not even talk across town. So I threw it in the scrap pile and went back to my cobra 142 . Anytone ares 11 radios should be banned from the market
Has it got the same roger beep like the original
The beep is quite similar, it can also be programmed via PC if you want to change it.
I agree for a modern radio it feels and looks as solid as the old radios of yesteryear. Basic but excellent ease of use.
Why mod for MARS if you are not a MARS member
I would honestly say most opt for the MARS mod just for 11m and WARC especially on the older radios. I think MARS modified is just a term that everyone relates to wideband TX.
@@gtretroworld I think it's for bragging.... I wouldn't buy a radio that was modified.
Shocking, DNT M40 😂😂. So I was a massive electrical head from day 1, well almost. I moved to Sheffield at a very young age, my mate introduced me to the CB, would have been 1980, just before FM became legal. Anyway, after making my self a lot of money fixing CB's, converting Melos's, installing roger bleeps, I saved up for one of the 1st mountain bikes. Anyway, I've forgotten what the two boards were called, so on one side we had (CYBERNET), "I think", you know, York JCB 863, Rotel 240, Harrier CBX, Barracuda etc. Then on the other side we had (Uniden) "again, can't remember". So Uniden 200, Audioline 341, Cobra 148 GTL DX. If I am mistaken on the board names please correct me, all I know was the Uniden boards were better than all others for blead over. There weren't many CB's I didn't have at one point or another like the door stopper-Amstrad 901, fairy light bleed over box😂😂😂😂
Brilliant story and a similar sort of thing to myself if I’m honest but instead of the mountain bike i bought HiFi and the late 80’s is where i was more serious about electronics. I was always a Fan of Uniden boarded radios although Cybernets were slightly more sensitive. I actually don’t mind the Amstrad 901 and still have a few. I’ll drag them down one day and try them on here. Thanks for the good comment.
@@gtretroworld Yeah, I mean in 1980 I was 7/8, I got into hi fi's a bit later, I was a big fan of Technics, tbh, I always wanted Alpine to make some stacks, they made some amazing car stereos. I miss the CB days, I live in Norwich now and the CB is done here. A lot of ppl now use CB Radio app on phones or Zello, but it's just not the same. A Colt 1200, that was my first side band, I thought that thing was so cool until the Cobra 148. Thanks for the reply. You have some classic old radios there. I think the worst radio I ever saw was a Murphy homebase, I'm sure it had big suckers on the bottom. I'll check out some of your other videos, give them a like for you 👍
