I love the way you go into extra detail and take the time to zoom in. No one else has done that. Thank you so much. I'm new to Serger work. And I'm working to figure this all out. Thank you so much for your efforts and time.
Your video is a treasure. Thank you! I bought my serger 1034dx last month and i was looking for a youtuber that explained the functions of the butons controls, not only how to thread. The way you teach and show in details, with a nice and perfect image, is wonderful. Read the manual is good too, but a well experienced teacher is better. I wish you a happy New Year.
Thank you for this video. I have struggled to find video resources that match the machine that I have. You have just assisted me with creating my first rolled hem.
I am glad you were able to figure this out. I have the same machines. I am not using my surger much because I feel so intimidated. I don't even know what the other pressure feet are for that came with the machine. I'm a more visual learner when doing anything new in the sewing world. That's why I watch your tutorials! Thank you Jeanette for all you do for us! I appreciate you!
Thank you for your honesty! I always see people zipp through everything and never a bump, it makes me feel like I'm the only one that doesn't get it. I found the video very helpful and informative. Thank you!!
I love the way you showed your mistakes it REALLY helped! Love your explanation I hate trying the rolled hem with that foot on my sewing machine it’s awful!!!!!
Thank you, dear lady. I tried to understand the explanations in the book. I didn't understand. Your detailed explanations helped me a lot. You are a good teacher. I have the courage to try the rolled hem. Greetings from Bucharest, Romania.
Jeanette, you are a life safer! I tried to do a rolled hem on my Brother 1034DX but failed miserably. I managed to remove the stitch knife correctly, but my stitch length, stitch width and other settings were way off. I kept creating big gaps of space in the thread of my rolled hem scraps. This video solved the mystery! Yaaaaaay! Like you, I got so frustrated and agitated, but now I'm doing rolled hems like a pro! Thank you!❤❤
Hi Wiselady. What is so funny about this whole adventure is that the setting was in the manual...LOL!!! I love doing the roll hem with this machine. It looks great! Enjoy your serger!!!
@@BoricuaSewingCrafts Yes. I definitely will, thank you. Now, I want to "roll hem" everything in sight! LOL! I'm gonna do the narrow hem next. Check this out....I had the information HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW MARKER and, still failed to pay close attention to the exact settings found in the manual. I will make sure I thoroughly read it in the future! Enjoy your serger as well. 🙂
Thank you so much for this video. I just got my Brother 1034DX yesterday and I was having trouble figuring out what the R meant (like R-2). Now I get it! I think I need a prize just for threading it the first time...lol
Tha know so much for showing this. I nearly went insane yesterday trying to figure this out! I've had the machine for a year and felt so intimidated to cigure it out. I needed the rolled hem to make doll clothes. I feel much better seeing this instruction. I listened to another lady yesterday and had zoo much trouble figuring it out! Thanks!😊
You are a born Starrr a Great Teacher Illustrator keep doing what you doing you brought joy to my Life i have ordered my new brother 1034DX Serger i search high and low for the perfect demonstration and i appreciate your help. Thank You.
Wow! So awesome! Imagine getting frustrated enough to read the manual. I am guilty. First time I have seen your videos and truly appreciate this one a lot.Thank you! I subscribed so I can see more. I am old but I can still learn more. And, I share things I need to my e-mail so I can simply search on it. Lovely dinner napkins! I will pull out my fabrics and Will play with a spare piece of fabric and then, because of your instructions…I will be successful! ❤😊
Thank you so much for taking your time to explain every single step in perfect detail! I have a similar server that I've had for several years and have used it only to finish hems and edges. Now I will try to make some beautiful dinner napkins.
Thankyou so much for doing this video, you explain everything so well. Please keep making videos to teach us more about this serger, I have the 1034D which has been sitting unused for a while. 🙏🙏🙏
Excellent video with very clear instruction. I was able to use my serger to roll hem around patches for jackets and ball caps. Thanks so much for your videos on the Brother 1034DX serger.
Thank you! Lol i had my serger was in the box for months before I started using it and I only used it for making shirt seam. Couldn't figure out how to do anything else that machine scared me lol. Like I always say love your videos and the way you video everything and how you explain everything. I can't thank you enough for helping! 🥰
After having this serger for five years I have finally started using it. Thanks so much for this tutorial! Now I can play and work on adding napkins to my repertoire! I love your idea of embroidering initials, too!
Thank you so very much. I have the Madame Sew Set and am thrilled that you gave me the confidence to use them. I am sewing upcycle projects and making unique clothing for me. The rolled hem adds such an elevated look to the finished product. I have a Baby Lock Verve (purchased last year) and find you videos so amazing and useful! Girl, you good!! patricia
Congratulation's !!!!! I don't have a surger but glad you figured it out. Not sure what its for. The hem foot now that is something I can try. Thank you for showing it !!!
Thank you for this video!! I bought the DX just to be able to do a rolled hem but, didn't even know it was called "Rolled Hem" and was confused with the Serger edge. And you could lower the blade and just do the rolled hem over the Serger edge stitch.
Girl u crack me up..love your personality…much like mine when your. ‘Pissed off’ as u said i don’t know of any seamstress that does not want to throw there machine in the corner from time to time…as most of us u learn to walk away…Cool down…Laugh at yourself take a deep breath and regather later on…just found your site today…Yaaa for me…and am enjoying your vlogs…what better to do then to giggle at your personality…also when it is rainy and gloomy…like today…also i decided to purchase the same serger as u did…just by watching a few videos…especially yours as they were very detailed…its much easier then my 35 year old one…bought it second hand 6 mo. Old with a three year warranty…the young lady wanted to purchase a bigger one…win win for both of us… By the way i am an older lady (67) with glasses also. I will stay tuned…love your personality as I truly enjoy it…Lol
Put the needle into the corner first, which holds that fabric down so that you can then pull fabric right into the tunnel. (If you don't put the needle into the corner of the fabric first, it is very difficult to pull it into the tunnel. )Then lower presser foot, and start sewing. Keep the edge taut, and as you sew you have to keep that edge in the same place so the fabric gets caught by the thread, and does not roll too much and have raw edges sticking out from under the roll. (I read my owner's manual to figure this one out, lol. ) I get beautiful rolled hems that way, BUT you will still have that little "tag" at the corner where you started, that you have to cut off.
Jeanine! Thank you!!!!! I am going to give this a try. Thanks for the awesome tip! I really want to master doing this. I love the way the stitch looks!
I'm a moderately confident sewer but the Brother 1034DX has been problematic for me. I use the user's manual as a reference tool regularly, and I was able to figure out how to pull out the "finger" to set up the rolled hem, but I didn't really understand the chart recommendations until I watched your video. Those adjustments made all the difference!! I mostly sew costumes for a halau (Hawaiian dance and culture students) and the rolled hem is SOOOO much easier and neater than ironing and folding over a standard hem when you are dealing with a skirt that uses 4-5 yards of fabric! Also perfect for hemming the various ruffles that get added to sleeves, dresses, and skirt bottoms! Thanks for making & sharing! :)
Glad you found the video useful. I am going to be taking a bunch of serger courses soon. I'm looking forward to it. I plan on making more videos on the serger.
I use needle nose tweezers to get it started on the single needle rolled hem foot and swear by spray starch before hemming with it. I practiced without starch until I got it ... but my first garment rolled hem was on satin and I starched. PERFECT. The serger rolled hem would have given my hem too much body for that garment but the serged rolled hem looks much better in some other applications, like your napkins.
I’m really excited, I just got my new brother machine and I noticed that you’re using the madam sew kit which I had purchased when I bought my heavy duty singer sewing machine a couple years ago. I’m thinking it’s the same thing. I haven’t pulled it out to verify. But thank you for your video. I’m looking forward to trying this!!!
Hi, thank you for all the info, that was really nice. I think if you put a piece of fabric under the foot presser is going to help you w/ the second method you were trying, I think I saw that in another youtube video.
Thank you so much for this. I’ve had my serger for 2 years ad just opened the Box 3 days ago. I have a 🎉question. When doing a rolled hem can you use the knife withit?
LOL! It sure was a struggle trying to figure this out. Once I learned how to use, I love doing the rolled hem too. It doesn't add a really nice finish.
Just a quick tip; if you cut an angle on your fabric before you start to feed into the rolled hem foot #30 it will be easier to roll it as you go. I've sewn hundreds of yards that way. Practice on scraps for sure.
I have the same machine, thank you for the videos! I used the same settings as you list with cotton quilting fabric, and it seems a bit "gappy' what setting would i adjust to make the hem solid?
Hi Carmen. Chech the manual. The will have the correct settings in there. I learned this the hard way LOL.... Look at page 19 for the stitch length and page 25 for the tension set up.
I think you can learn a little of things if you read the user's manual. Also...the manual us available online for anyone who may have lost, or misplaced it.
This drived me mental. So many videos but it just wasnt coming right. I didnt had the manual as my over locker is old and only used it for serging. Its mt first try at this. Thank you for the video
Madame sew rolled hem foot … how do you remove at end when hemming a dress that’s has seams … it’s a circle with no end … I ruined my dress hem .. head to cut off end and … anyway . How do you remove it from the foot ?
What fabric you used? This setting doesn’t look good on my cotton fabric also Its single fabric , no doble so I wonder if thats why your settings dont look good on mine
Hi Ssisters! I don't disengage the cutter. I exactly use it when doing the rolled hem. I just cut very little of the side of the fabric. I want to make sure it catches.
HI Shantell. I use SureLock which I purchased from Joann's. I also purchased from Threadart as well. They have lots of colors and sell the set. The serger is fun!!! Enjoy using it!
I’m pretty sure in the settings the R-6, for example, is R (5) through 6. Or R through 2. This is to account for different fabric and needs. Also, the 2.0 that you placed are the feed dogs. This is for stretch materials. Closer to the 0.7 would be for woven fabric. That has nothing to do with the stitch length. The settings for your cotton placemat will not be the same for a single layer rayon. Then finally, the finger that you removed is to evenly space stitches. It’s for overlock because it’s a serger but it’s just to evenly space the stitches. A rolled hem isn’t going to have space in the stitches, hence, there’s no reason for it. Happy serging!
The next time you change the needle put a napkins of a piece of paper underneath it. This way if it drops it falls right on the napkin or paper and you don’t have to worry. Someone gave me that tip! :-)
I love the way you go into extra detail and take the time to zoom in. No one else has done that. Thank you so much. I'm new to Serger work. And I'm working to figure this all out. Thank you so much for your efforts and time.

Hi Evelyn, Glad you enjoyed the video. The serger is really good. I love it!

SPOT ON TUTORIAL,,, GREAT EXPLAINATION
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it! Enjoy doing the rolled hem on your serger!
Hi, thank you for all the info, that was really nice. I think if you put a piece of fabric under the foot presser is going to help you w/ the second method you were trying, I think I saw that in another youtube video.
Thanks for the info! I will give that a try for sure!!!
Thank you so much for this. I’ve had my serger for 2 years ad just opened the Box 3 days ago. I have a 🎉question. When doing a rolled hem can you use the knife withit?
Hi Gail. I leave the knife in the machine.
😂 It's good to see someone struggling in the same way as I do. 😅 Who needs a rolled hem on the sewing machine anyway? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh Bonnie, Thanks so much for that tip. I'm definitely going to try that. I didn't think do doing this!!!
For this foot to start. Make a few stitches on the fabric so u have a tale to feed it in n u can pull on that thread to start it
Thanks I'm going to try that. I am new to the serger world so any tips are great! I am having lots of fun using the machine!
Thank you for sharing you rock!
My pleasure!
thank you 😀
You’re welcome Eve! Glad you enjoyed the video!

Thank you for the video

I love this tutorial, which thread spool goes in to the needle? Thanks for sharing 😊
The second one to the left gets threaded to the needle.
@@BoricuaSewingCrafts Thanks I'm going to try it 😀
THANK YOU VERY MUCH 🎉
You're welcome 😊
You don't need to cut off the serged edge because the machine will cut it off when you do the rolled hem. I know because I've done it. 👍 😊
Madame sew rolled hem foot … how do you remove at end when hemming a dress that’s has seams … it’s a circle with no end … I ruined my dress hem .. head to cut off end and … anyway . How do you remove it from the foot ?
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
Woolly Nylon Thread in one of the loopers. Maybe that will help.

You are so welcome! Glad you found the video helpful!
Thank you soooooooo much
You video help me to solve my rolled hem problem
God Almighty bless you 🙏
I don't know if I missed something, but did you remove the knives? I haven't even taken my serger out of the box yet.
The removal was done in 8:30 timestamp of the video. Take that machine out of the box and have fun with it!!! You are going to love it!

What can you do with used-up serger needles??
Hi Sazon. I don't keep old needles. I replace my needles after 8 hours of sewing. I put them in an old pill bottle to get rid of them.
@@BoricuaSewingCrafts cool..thank you
What fabric you used? This setting doesn’t look good on my cotton fabric also Its single fabric , no doble so I wonder if thats why your settings dont look good on mine
It could be the fabric. I used cotton fabric but it's was thick. I purchased it at a sew and quilt show. If the fabric is thin then it will curl up.
On the serger do you have to disengage the cutter? Or is it on as you do the rolled hem?
Hi Ssisters! I don't disengage the cutter. I exactly use it when doing the rolled hem. I just cut very little of the side of the fabric. I want to make sure it catches.
Thanks so much. You are the best! I love all your videos and how u you teach is so easy to understand thank you!
Do all does feet work on a Brother SE 1900?
HI Christiane. I haven't used all the feet in this set but according to the madam sew all of them should work on the SE1900.
What type of cones did you use? I am new to my serger.
HI Shantell. I use SureLock which I purchased from Joann's. I also purchased from Threadart as well. They have lots of colors and sell the set. The serger is fun!!! Enjoy using it!
I have never had any luck using the pressure foot on the sewing machine for the rolled hem. Very frustrating.
I didn’t find it easy at all. I’m going to stick with the serger. I like the look better too!
Super video.I assume that you use the knife for the rolled hem Correct? Cheryl W.
HI Cheryl. Yes. You don't remove the knife. You just remove the stitch finger. Look on page 23 of the manuel.
What would make it wider?
You can change the stitch length but usally a rolled hem should be very thin.
@@BoricuaSewingCrafts thats what I thought! Mom loves watching your videos but she doesn’t understand 😂 she only speaks spanish 😘
HELP!! What am I doing wrong?? I followed your steps exactly by my rolled hem is really skinny.
the rolled hem is suppose to be a skinny stitch.
Mine was super super skinny and looked ugly. I figured. I figured it out though - the needle was not in correctly! Thanks for this lovely tutorial!!
What about the air flow, did you figure out what went wrong?
Yes. I didn't have the tension set correctly. The air flow is a nice machine but honestly I like the way the 1034DX stitches better.
@@BoricuaSewingCrafts I can’t send mine back I purchased it from Texas it in route I should have waited
Thanks! I really love the serger! It’s a fun machine!
I got the needle out almost dropped in the machine
The next time you change the needle put a napkins of a piece of paper underneath it. This way if it drops it falls right on the napkin or paper and you don’t have to worry. Someone gave me that tip! :-)
