Adam West killed several of Penguin's thugs in the '66 movie. Val Kilmer killed Two-Face in "Forever." George Cloo ey is the only one to not kill anyone onscreen before Pattinson, but he is canonically the same as Michael Keaton and Val, so he inherited their body counts.
Since everyone carries their own sins, including the poor, the film uses symbolic scenes to convey deeper messages. In one such scene, the city is submerged in water, representing the cleansing of all sinners through baptism - even Batman. His emergence from the water marks a transformation, signifying that he is no longer driven by vengeance Remember, Batman's enemy also says, 'I'm vengeance.' This highlights Batman's mistake. His initial identity as vengeance was flawed, and the film uses this to show his need for transformation.

Batman is a human without powers but he's far from a regular guy. He trained for years all around the world to dominate all aspects of crime fighting: detective work, forensics, interrogation, spy craft, fear tactics, physics, chemistry, engineering, martial arts, Scape arts. He studied all types of martial arts and even created his own style. He also studied with ninja masters.
At 47mins you guys were talking about how unless Batman kills, it's insanely hard to achieve anything because even judges will be paid off in Gotham. But this is what makes Batman have such great story telling, he knows it's insanely difficult, but he'll keep going to get the job done.
This movie portrayed the fear element of Batman insanely well, which I think is necessary due to this Bruce Wayne has only been active 2 years and is still learning. As a criminal in Gotham, you literally will almost never know where Batman is or will be, and he could instantly appear in front of you if he happened to be near and wanted to, which is TERRIFYING and one of Batman’s best elements. I also have a feeling he’ll develop more of a douchey Bruce Wayne persona in the upcoming films as he gains more experience in the vigilante world because he is still young and makes a few mistakes in even this movie and is also on very thin ice with the police, showing he still needs to gain proper experience/trust before he is full fledged.
Robert Pattinson is my favorite live action Batman what a great performance. I love that his Batman grows from a tortured vigilante to a beacon of hope. This movie is a comic book masterpiece.
I'm so glad you guys did this before the trilogy. This is the truest live action representation of the Batman we see in the comics. While the trilogy is really fun to watch, it isn't super comic accurate. Watching the trilogy first can sometimes sway the opinion on this version, just because they're used to the version of Batman, Christopher Nolan created for his vision, instead of a more comic accurate Batman.
I agree with what you're saying, but I don't think the word you mean is "Comic Accurate". Maybe the TDK Trilogy was too clean, but it's literally a mash-up of stories taken directly from graphic novels. Then again, I've never had Bruce Wayne money, so I don't know what that life would actually feel like or look like. Robert Pattinson's Batsuit looks like he put it together himself, while Bale's looks very professionally manufactured. I love that Robert Pattinson's Batsuit looks specifically made to be practical. Bale's suit that shoots the arm spikes is COOL, and that does come back at the end of the movie, so it's definitely a MOVIE PLOT thing... whereas Robert Pattinson's Batsuit is 100% designed for function. The fact that the grapple guns are wrist mounted, and that the extra grapple/darts ammo for them is just strapped to the other side of his arm, probably pre-strung, he's got the wingsuit going on, and it's light enough that he can just wrap the wingsuit around hm like a coat, take the cowl and the chest armor off and stick it in the backpack, and just drive away completely inconspicuous. That Batsymbol is literally a chest-mounted pocket knife, and he carries around a quick-use syrette of pure adrenaline... and has a specially designed port in his suit to administer it, directly into an artery. That's hardcore. I mean, since The Dark Knight, we've been almost conditioned to expect the Batsuit to pop up from the ground in some specially made chamber that displays it perfectly, but here's Robert Pattinson driving around town wearing MOST of it, and with the rest of it just chilling in his BACKPACK. That's crazy. And cool, because he doesn't give two shits about that money.
@@reflectionist the characters are what made it less comic accurate for me. As cool as he was, I never read a Batman comic pre dark Knight that has Joker like he was in the film. The most comic accurate Joker was Cameron Monaghan followed by Jack Nicholson.
@@__Black_Sheep__ That's wild. I'm not sure if I would agree with that, either, though. Even though Cameron Monaghan and Jack Nicholson were both GREAT. In his first ever comic appearance, the Joker dressed up like a cop. In The Killing Joke, he says, "If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!" Granted -- Jack Nicholson's Joker origin is the most accurate, with the accident at ACE Chemicals, but he doesn't seem like Joker, and he didn't kill the Waynes. The Long Halloween is about that "escalation" as the corrupt cops and the organize crime machine start to give way to the supervillains and "freaks" out of desperation. One time, Ra's Al Ghul hired the Joker to slow down a pursuing Batman, which ultimately ended up with Joker capturing Robin and beating him to death with a crowbar and leaving him in a warehouse rigged to blow with oil drums. Even in The Dark Knight Returns, the guy's a non-issue until he shows up and hijacks the plot. After the first few viewings, even I had to admit that he is pretty funny in The Dark Knight. "You think you can steal from us and just walk away?" "...Yeah."
@@__Black_Sheep__ Hey, nothing against you or anything you said, I hope you didn't think I was being rude. That's kind of the beauty of the comics, you know? Batman's been a character since 1939, there are many, many different interpretations of the character and all of them are valid to some degree or another. Shit, even Robert Pattinson's Batman has seams on his mask that match where the lines are on Adam West's Batman mask. Across the hairline and the square over the nose, see?
The Penguin series has started airing , its the direct continuation and leads to Batman II . You should definitely check it out . The first episode that released was just phenominal 🔥.

15:58 shotgun rounds don’t move much faster than a lot of pistol rounds, the extra speed really Coming from the barrel length or amount of powder But even still, let’s say it’s 12 gauge buckshot, each pellet is about 8.4 mm (depends on the kind but still) it’s not UNREASONABLE, for his armor to stop buckshot, but it WOULD hurt like hell, which we see later
45:31 I guess they couldn't lock him up, because Batman's shenanigans produce inadmissible evidence - plus hauling him to police would also get them all tangled in the legal mess of the pile-up they caused at the highway.

It's interesting to see the reactions of people who know basically nothing about Batman except the basics. The fact that Bruce trained for years how to become the Bat, and the reason for his no-kill rule are lost on you. Plus, the Penguin, the Riddler, Falcone, Maroni, and Catwoman are all from a long time ago in the comics and they've all been a big part of Batman's identity as his villains, so it's weird to see someone go into it absolutely blind. And then there's Robin, who hasn't had a live action movie appearance since 1997, and it was horrible, so movie producers got afraid of using the character at all, and that's why everyone forgets Robin exists, let alone that there are at least four different characters who were Robin at different times.
Besides the obvious: Batmans parents were killed in cold blood. I think its important to mention that because of that he knows and understands the cycle of violence. He understands that even if he killed the worst villains under his city more and worse would only follow, this is actually portrayed quite well in the dark knight trilogy. But also he sticks to the no killing philosophy because he has to become the symbol of justice to Gotham. He has to convince himself even when its difficult to believe in the possibility of redemption. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, he is afraid of becoming the villain/monster himself, as explained by the cycle of violence. If he lets himself become a part of it it destroys the symbol and allows himself to sink deeper into the darkness allowing himself to kill easier.
