Thank you. The biggest insight into emissions is what pressures and number should be at and what to watch for. Also didn't know that those doc's could be repaired. If you could let us know where they could get repaired and usual cost. Thanks alot.
Typically just the DOC repair runs about $1200 plus the DPF cleaning, plus parts (gasket kits) and labor. So this may run you about $2500-3000. I live in Southern California so AQMD and EPA are really coming down on these repairs, because they say the soot from the DOC can not be collected unlike the DPF filters. So unfortunately I can't give out the name of the place I used for this. But if you find a place that cleans DPF, ask them and maybe they can refer you to someone that does.
Pedro, had truck come in this week. I ran Regen saw scr inlet nox was 1650ppm and outlet 3ppm. Conversion was 0.255. both nox active, I ran out of time, but next day coworker replaced inlet nox, would that be great remedy for those numbers? I believe code read nox raw.
Great video.. I’m looking to buy a truck in Tampa and Im Hesitating on the extended warranty( 5k)witch covers the one box. For a year. What do you think?
I would go over any extended warranty carefully. Most One Box failures happen because of engine issues like injectors, software updates, poor maintenance and extended warranty companies love to weasel their way out. On the other hand, they are worth it (IMO) as long as they cover things like injectors, leaking head gaskets, OIL PUMP and OIL LUBRICATION. I had a customer who's engine failed due to oil pressure issues and they specifically did NOT cover this. He ended up giving up the truck once the major engine repair was too much. So just go over what is covered and what is not covered. Also, follow their recommended maintenance even though it may differ from the manufacturer. Hope this helps.
What is your advice on how to keep your one box from going bad. I had my one box replaced a month after I bought my truck. Luckily I had warranty.. And I don't idle my truck and now I'm in the process of getting it replaced again. I had DPF filter replaced also. I didn't kno about the DEF pump filter changing.
Regular maintenance Using good clean diesel (possibly adding fuel additives) Using good quality DEF Changing your DEF filter maybe once a year. Valve adjustments (every 100K miles) Change your air filter once a year or depending on mileage Minimize your idle time These are just a few things I can think of.

I have a question for you may be you know Why dd15 has problem with 6th cylinder head intake valve 90 percent in cases? Why they worn faster than others?
@@HarshJatt great question. My buddy who rebuilds cylinder heads says the same thing. I think it could be the because it’s so close to the gear. But I really don’t know. Once Detroit switched to the single lobe on the intake valves , the valves get out of adjustment much faster.
Carlos I have three codes spn 5246 fmi 0,15 and 16. The dpf inlet pressure is 0 psi and outlet press 932 psi before regen. During regen the inlet pressure is 2 psi and the outlet is 0 psi. Before regen both nox sensors read 1650 ppm. During regen inlet nox 3200 ppm and outlet nox 80 ppm. Can you help me to understand these readings?
I just went through this nightmare but after fitting new Def pump, new nox sensors ,new filters, new awning kit, and spending eight thousand and lots of downtime, the lights and 25 percent derate came back after 200 miles. Back to the shop and I was told to replace the box, which isn't available, costs over fifteen thousand and is on back order for four months. I'm not doing it, I'm getting it deleted, sell the damn truck and go back to company truck. Good bye owner operator. It's been a nightmare with high diesel prices, low broker rates and this dd15 nightmare.
I don’t blame you my friend, most Owner Operators are definitely modifying the One Box because the cost is too damn much. The troubleshooting is very time consuming and of course gets expensive. Something has to be done about the fuel prices, it’s killing business and small businesses.
I can't find the video where you show how to run a 5hr regen. I ran a parked regen, let it cool off, turn off the truck for 10mins to allow acm to shut down, started truck and ran a park scr efficiency test. Test usually lasts about 2hrs, but mine finished (completed successfully) in 20 minutes. Have any pointers? Conversion efficiency is at 92%, but conversion efficiency low fault keeps coming back after each run.
The fault code may be stuck in the ACM, sometimes you have to run a regen back to back for the code to clear. There are times when fault code will not clear. What year is the truck?
Hello I’m having similar problems with my one box. One thing that i noticed during a def quantity injection test is that it was a total of 200mml. Should that be some kind of concern since it’s over spec?
That sounds like the def doser is leaking. If you have the DL8 software, run the test and monitor the rpms of the def pump as well as the quantity requested/dosed readings.
Turn around time for repairs is about 1 week depending on how busy the shop is. If the One Box is having face plug issues then you may have additional problems like the injectors or possibly other engine components.
So your video is the second I’ve seen where you were able to repair the DOC, is that what mainly goes wrong with the one box? Very knowledgeable video thx
A blocked DOC is a result a few things. 1- excessive idle 2- bad injectors 3- poor maintenance 3- local driving (city, stop and go traffic, heavy idle) This can cause the face of the DOC to be blocked and the pressure to be high and limit a successful regen. Long distance or over the road is typically best to prevent DOC issues.
Hey, Carlos i have a problem with my freightliner cascadia 2018 dd13. I'm getting the code 520372 16 and the hole where the doser goes bolted in to the box it's plug with crystalized def , i took it to a mechanic and did a software updated to the amc and replaced my def doser and still the code is coming after 100 mile. The mechanic told me that i need a new one box because the scr are not working properly that's why the def is crystalized at the hole where's the doser is bolted in to the box. I appreciate if you can give me an idea of the code 520372 16 and if this code relates to the hole of the doser being plugged with crystalized def? The scr can be service?
The closed loop simply means the system has maxed out the DEF being used or injected. What others codes are you getting? Those codes will help determine what steps to take next.
Hey, Carlos thanks for replying. I'm only getting the code 520372 16 other code is coming out. I work at the ports long beach and San pedro only do a radius of 15 miles back and forth. If an scr efficiency test is done to the truck and if it pass and the nox efficiency is over 70% it means the one box is in good condition? This week I worked, and the hole where the def doser goes was crystalized so I had to removed the def doser and removed the crystalized def at the hole where inject the def so I could continue working. Did this procedure every 30 miles 3 times a night so i get the code. Low quality def can cause this code 520372 16?
Depends on what is wrong with the One Box. Is it just plugged? Is there damage internally? Are the DOC filters pushed forward? Are you getting soot getting into the SCR?
@@ivanhernandez5682 you may have to find a DPF type shop that can try and clean it out. It won’t be easy but I had a similar issue with an SCR for a Volvo with heavy DEF, they were able to clean it but it took some time and wasn’t cheap because of the labor involved.
Hi Carlos, I was wondering if can tell me what software you use in your shop. I use the standard diagnosticklink but is very limited to what you can do. Your videos are very detailed and easy to follow. Thanks for your help.

If the DOC needs to be repaired, cost is usually about $1000 -1500 which includes cleaning the DOC and pushing them back into their original location. The DPF cleaning is extra. Some places charge 200-300 for bake and cleaning. The One Box replacement is about $8000 for a refurbished factory reman. A new One Box is more expensive. The DPF is not included in any of those nor are the sensors.
You cannot fix it, you can clean the two cans and you can clean out the filter end you can see. But there is two more of those filters in the bottom of the box. This whole system is designed to fail and require maintaining so Freightliner can clip you for about 5000 every 300,000 miles are so. And then sooner are later get you for about 15 to 18,000 for a new box.
Wish I came here sooner. Great video and content! I just had my one box replaced. (Not cheap). Anyways, seeking your advice. 2013 Cascadia with 650K miles on it. Hello I deleted all of this !! Now I can smell the tail pipe! Would you recommend putting it back? Can you please tell me! Thank you Like you’re videos.
Delete usually mean the filter system will have holes made through it. So now you may have to buy everything new and that will get expensive. Check for exhaust leaks, that may solve the smell issue.

@@bashiromar7137 hopefully I can go over these codes. 5246-15 means the fault codes have been ignored Engine Derate On. 4364 -18 means SCR NOx conversion Efficiency Low. Could be bad NOx sensors (inlet and outlet). Could be bad DEF quality or could simply be a bad One Box (SCR ). 3251-0 means DPF Inlet pressure hose assembly, could be a bad sensor, plugged pressure sensor. You might need the DPF filters serviced but before you do that, try having the DOC face cleaning routine done. It takes 4.5-5 hours to complete, this may help you. Also, have your mechanic or technician monitor the DOC and DPF pressures. This will help confirm if the DOC is plugged.
Could be, you have to run a parked regen and see what the DOC inlet and DPF pressures are. The pressures will tell you if there are any DOC issues. I would start there.
I used to go by the book on the torque but it seems rather low and I had some issues in the past with leaks. So I typically just tighten the clamps to where it is snug and then a little extra. But the manual states the following: Torque the flat clamp (31-34 lb ft) Torque the V-band clamp (10-12 lb ft) Again, based on my experience, you can go tighter on the clamps to ensure a proper seal. Use a socket and ratchet and tighten by hand. No air tools.

Typically just the DOC repair runs about $1200 plus the DPF cleaning, plus parts (gasket kits) and labor. So this may run you about $2500-3000.
@@48whodat can you blow compressed air inside the doc?
Wish I came here sooner. Great video and content! I just had my one box replaced. (Not cheap). Anyways, seeking your advice. 2013 Cascadia with 650K miles on it. Should I sell or try to find a driver? Trucking is simply an investment business for me, not my full time job. I don’t even have my CDL’s! Let me know your thoughts!!
What was the cost to replace one box? My one box is failing 😭
Any update?
@@crystalmacon9469 I just had to “fix” mine..unfortunately 16K is not something I’m able to spend at the moment

@@aroshakkar Where did you get it done at? I need that contact information? Do they have a referral program?
Hello
I deleted all of this !! Now I can smell the tail pipe! Would you recommend putting it back?
Can you please tell me! Thank you
Like you’re videos.
Delete usually mean the filter system will have holes made through it. So now you may have to buy everything new and that will get expensive.
Check for exhaust leaks, that may solve the smell issue.
@@CarlosDieselElectric thank you bro for taking the time to answer my question!! I did check and it’s coming from the 1box 😞😞
Hey Carlos where are you located?
We are in Montebello, Ca 90640
I have nox conversion efficiency problem and I tried everything but 2 codes 4364 and 5246 are not going away can you help
Where is the fmi? For example 4364 fmi -
@@CarlosDieselElectric 4364 Fmi 18 and 4364 fmi 1 and 5246 fmi 0 and 5246 fmi 16
@@CarlosDieselElectric and thanks for reply . I have had learn lot of things from your videos
How much to fix it all like you just did?
Parts and labor runs about 2K.

4364 fail 18, 3364 fail 2, 5246 fail 15 y 5246 fail 16.
How you clean your doc
There is a DOC face cleaning routine you can do using the DDDL software or the One Box has to be sent in to a DPF shop and they can clean it.
@@CarlosDieselElectric how much is the cleaning
Are you hiring entry level techs?
My cascadia broke down and Freightliner told me
You need to change whole one box dpf
It cost 12000
My truck is 2016 530k miles on it
My question is is it worth to spend that amount of money
Thanks a head
bashir omar first of all, what is the truck doing? What are the fault codes?
If it did fail, what caused the One Box to fail? Anyone can put a entire new One Box assembly and make it pass and clear the codes but you have to know the failure. Because if the Box fails again within one year will Freightliner cover it?
Give me more information on what is happening.
Carlos Diesel Electric thanks for the reply
I went to the shop 3 weeks ago
They changed dpf out let sensor awning kit clumps and doser injector they clean everything then after 2 loads
I got stop engine light check engine and this spn 3251 fmi 0 and truck was no power at all
I towed to Detroit diesel shop
They check every thing they said you need to change inlet sensor and both dpf filters
Doc face plug cleaning routine
After i spend $$ 8000 all that staff
I left the shop and hit the road 150 miles away
I got weird noise on injecters i got towed to the freighliner they said your problem is injector #3
They changed the injector i took the truck to the road test 29 miles away
I got 6 codes spn 5246 fmi 15 spn 3251 fmi o spn4364 fmi 18 and 5 derate then i tried regen but the truck was never going to stop the regen
It takes 3 hours single regen then i got towed back to the shop
Now they saying you need to change the whole one box because the fuel injector caused the problem
No i am wondering if this truck worth to put that money
There is one year warranty
Any advice helps
Thanks a head
Never buy a dd15 you will spend thousands on this one box.
thanks that's very helpful, you are a genius.
I'm having nox efficiency very low code 3364-1 is there will plugged DOC have an effect on the code?
Could be, you have to run a parked regen and see what the DOC inlet and DPF pressures are. The pressures will tell you if there are any DOC issues. I would start there.
What were the torque specs for dpf filter clamps?
I used to go by the book on the torque but it seems rather low and I had some issues in the past with leaks. So I typically just tighten the clamps to where it is snug and then a little extra.
But the manual states the following:
Torque the flat clamp (31-34 lb ft)
Torque the V-band clamp (10-12 lb ft)
Again, based on my experience, you can go tighter on the clamps to ensure a proper seal. Use a socket and ratchet and tighten by hand. No air tools.
Thank you
