It's amazing how he manages his pick! At 1:56 he tucks it between his fingers to use his thumb and index finger separately, then at 2:00 he retrieves it and goes back to picking. Then at 2:05 he presumably puts the pick in his mouth and does the two-finger tapping, then at 2:18 he retrieves it and goes back to picking.
John 5 is awesome. As a metal fan and player I can appreciate everything he does. Simply put, he is a hybrid mix of every top player from every genre of music combined. A humble guy on top of that just makes the guy easy to appreciate his talent.

I think from now on John 5 will be on my top ten list of all time great guitar players. I don't care for the style he plays with Rob Zombie or for Marilyn Manson but his own stuff is pretty darn good and when he does things like this or on his banjo, Mandolin or whatever else he happens to be picking I am mesmerized by his playing. I have never heard Page, Hendrix, Clapton, Van Halen or anyone else play so many different genre's and do it so well!
+1 to the knod for Hank... Recorded this song when he was 18 years old in 1949...( sold over a MILLION in 1949!! ) John's a student of great guitar pioneers. A great guitarist who mastered finger style, John goes beyond in taking it to a subtle change in adding more edge. Like Setzer did for old style rockabilly, John has utilized old school technique into modern day playing. THAT makes a great guitarist. J5's dad is "Guitar guy" who plays with the ventriloquist, Jeff Duham.
I doubt if there is any music on earth this guy can't play. I was front row at a Rob Zombie show; and although he looked enthusiastic, I got the impression he could have played those songs with his toes instead of his fingers. Pays the bills I suppose. 🤣

Do not get me wrong, he was extremely talented, but in death his legend grew WAAAAY beyaond what he actually did.
