Just spent days researching "heater blowing cold" all over google and youtube. Just finished taking out the passenger side blend actuator only to be puzzled when it didn't seem to be the issue! After tweaking my search a bit I ended up here. When right in the middle of the vid he offhandedly says to check the cooling fluid. Could it really be that dumb? That this might all be due to my lazy oil change people having never actually done all the "points" of their "30 point oil change" in addition to me living life assuming they were?? Yup, cooling fluid was pretty much bottomed out. Refilled and heat is back. You sir, are a life saver! Not just for saving my cold-azz in the middle of the coldest part of the year but in also saving my whole engine starving for water! Huge kudos for mentioning that simple little thing that literally no other video or forum ever did! Totally earned a like/sub.
I'm gonna say it again.. Thank you man!! I almost gave up trying to DIY a no-heat issue on my BMW -until I watched your video. The information is invaluable. The dealer estimates $2500-2800.
The issue is it only blows cold air on the passenger side, no issues on the driver. I was able to follow your instructions and ***diagnose*** the problem. It turns out to be a hinge that had came loose. This hinge connects the stepper motor to a flap to direct air flow through the heater core or around it. It was a pain to get access to it (under the dash) but I just had to push the hinge back in place.
The side that had heat, would you say it was as hot as you selected it to be from the controls or a bit colder than normal? I have the same problem. Thanks in advance!
Glad you mentioned that water sound in the dashboard. I hear that noise every time I turn my car on.
I guess it's worth mentioning that if your car is overheating, turning on the heater is a nice way of adding some additional cooling.
Fuddy Duddy true that...
That trick has saved me a couple times, when radiator fan not working properly turn the heat all the way up an the heater fan all the way up too, it helped me get to my destination within operation temp
What if I turn of the air instead?
@@shoushikochou if you turn on the air conditioning, engine temps will rise. The heater core is a tiny radiator that will cool off your coolant. The air conditioning is run with a compressor and makes the engine work harder to run it. Furthermore, the a.c. condenser gets hot and is usually in front of the radiator meaning you will blow hot air over your coolant.
What if its over heating and hot air is not blowing hot and does not help cool down?
I totally mean this as a compliment, your vids are getting much more funnier, and, more informative as well. Your editing has improved a ton also. Keep up the great work. Well done, cheers....
You've offended me greatly....you're BANNED ...haha no I appreciate the comment. cheers
I’m here because I’m having a heater problem and you are educating me quite well. Thank you.
Well done, doesn't help me in my situation, but I always appreciate an informational, CLEAR video.
Nice and simple on cars like this, modern Bmw systems are ridiculously complex, 10 blend motors, moisture sensors, solar sensors, computer controlled flaps/vents, and if one device on the bus network fails it defaults the whole system to defrost only...
Very competent mechanic. Eric the car guy should subscribe
I had 2 chevy s-10,s 1 truck and 1 blazer.... Both had this tendency. Took me a while to figure out, exactly what you said....i tell my friends about this all the time. They never have heard of such a thing ,but i think its more common than we think. Great vid.
You explained the system very well.
Thank you sir.
Great video ! Your explanation is the best I've watched so far- it really helped me understand what could be wrong with my heat.
Great video you make things easier to understand
Gald to hear Brian.
Thank you for this white board explanation. Best full explanation I’ve found. I replaced a leaking expansion tank during the summer and I’m thinking from that point forward I lost my cabin heat though I didn’t really know it until winter came. Been trying and trying to track this down. Very difficult.
i appreciate your efforts and time spent educating the masses, you've helped me in numerous ways so from the bottom of my heart thank you sir!
One hose of the heater core is connected to the water pump or the coolant cannot circulate. The other hose is usually to the back of the intake manifold or the block depending on the make.
im in a 2004 KIA SPECTRA LX/EX . Thanks for your expertise i followed thru and now the warm air is coming at vents but not really hotter for winter & defrost very little air when temperature is all the way hmm.
Wow, cars are a pain in the ass.
you are the best tutorial guy on you tube , thanks again!
Thank you so much for your efforts! Your videos are amazing as always. Cheers.
Glad you like them, cheers
Ratchets And Wrenches windshield wiper problems
Thank you very much for taking the time to make these vids. They help a lot!
Mann! I WISH you were my teacher in automotive class 11th and 12th grade.
I have a 2002 tundra. I have no heat from my air vents. I have flushed the coil, put in new thermostat, burp my cooling system. Hot water runs in and out of my coil, but no hot air comes out of the vents. AC works fine. Could use any advice, for what I can do next. Thanks
for the video.
Hi Thanks for the video. I'm going to go out and look at my setup and then come back and rewatch your video. One suggestion, perhaps use your ruler to touch the parts that you described. I couldn't quite tell which parts were which with you just pointing.
Thank you man, this is the most clear explanation i ever seen, un saludo desde Mexico.
I have a 1996 vw jetta 2.0
The heater core broke somehow. What are the best solutions besides calcelling the hoses that go to the heater core?
All the second gens don’t have a valve on it so it’s best to put a on off valve on the inlet hose so you can turn it off in the summer to get the most out of your air conditioning especially in these ram trucks
Great video! My VW is very slow to warm up and there is no heat coming either! But the temperature stays at the normal level after the engine is warm! The heater core hoses are very hard to get to check their temperature.
Did u get this fixed mine is the same ?
I put my truck up on ramps and did the purge method you recommended I got the heat to work great!! but now it’s cold again it must be a bad heater core at this point then right ?
Very helpful....and very easy to follow... good job man!
Very properly explained information. Thanks alot. 1🤘🙏
If the blower motor runs only on high, it's the heater resistor.
That's what mine is doing also I only get cold air and the motor reads cold
I chk also, the Montero 2001 Xls 3.5 don't have cabin filter. I tried to buy in Auto Zone it does not have that parts even in other store.
If don't have funnel, you can pour it straight out of the bottle, just be careful! Lol start pour close then lift bottle up slowly.
what goes wrong when smoke start to come out of vents?
Is it okay to take out your thermostat during winter. I got more answers out of you than other videos thank you my friend
Gregory Grand no, do not remove your thermostat, ever. Engines get very hot, and even in sub-zero temps you'll fry an engine without proper coolant flow under load.
How does heater control valve works? I think my heater control valve is always open. My A/C doesn't work blows hot air, but Max A/C works(takes awhile to cool. 2007 Ford ranger
Very intelligent man
I have a mitsubishi outlander 2010, my car blow just warm air on idle but when im at 2krpm hot air coming out, i have change coolant and make it bleed and still same problem, both hose going to heater core are hot
Hi when my temperature control switch is on 18degrees it blow cold but as soon i turn the switch a notch it the start to blow really hot. What could be the issue?
My problem is blowers are working fine all pipes are warm I get warm air coming in the car but after 5 to 10mins the air blowing in car starts to get cooler any ideas
I want to check the radiator fluid,.......but I can not****
The Radiator cap appears to be permanently attached?
You can turn it,......to the stops,... but it don't allow the cap to come off?
2002 Buick Rendezvous.
Heaters gunna heat.
good one.
😹😹😹
Thanks. I have heat from half of the vents but not the rest.
Great video very informative 👍
What's your thoughts on putting CLR through the system?
"get the hell out of Dodge" well played, well played hahahaha
:)
Careful with garden hose,do not put too much pressure through your heater core.
yes true
How do you fix ac actuators that sound stuck and e brake and ABS light that are on won't turn off
So my car has no heat or ac, and the blower works. If it’s hot outside I get hot air. If it’s cold outside I get cold air. I’ve let it sit for an hour and I still don’t know what the problem is. No way I have a coolant issue if my heat gauge by the gas gauge always sit near the middle after warming up. And still no heat or ac. The defroster seems to work though. Any help?
anyway i live in indonesia, i need help on my AC.
it gets cold only during the night driving (or when it rains), but during middday driving it wont get cold. what could possibly go wrong? thx in advance
great video if helped me a lot of i fixed my car thanks to you video thanks you you the best
I just did this to a dodge dakota and it seems to work partially BUT my lower hose did not get hot !!! what does this mean??
My heater on driver side giving heat near the door side, but other louvers not giving heat, what do you think is the problem? My car is Montero 2001 3.5xls
This worked 💯for me. Thanks!
great video
Got to love good information!!
I have only cool air coming in no matter where I turn heater to. (air conditioning works). Any way to test the heater blend door(s) actuator? In my car it is on firewall behind driver's side of dash board. Looks like a nightmare to R&R it
Thanks for very informative video!
If the hoses on the heater core get turned around will this make any difference?
How about fix air conditioning please
A friend of mine had the coolant in his 6 cylinder diesel changed by a local shop. Neither he nor they knew (or bothered to look up the fact) that the engine had at least one bleeder screw.
Air was trapped and cylinder 6, which was apparently very coolant sensitive, was damaged.
Cost him an engine.
That sucks, the shop should have paid for it.
As I recall, and it was a long time ago, it was a known vulnerability in the engine and it wasn't really disclosed. I think the manufacturer covered it.
nice and simple thank you
Your welcome.
amazing videos from you. Thanks a lot
What if cold air is blowing out of one side and hot is blowing out the other?
cheers mate ur very help full.thanks
Good video.
Super helpful video
Excellent, as always!
Thanks for watching and commenting, cheers.
very informative. great vid
Looks like my 2nd gen Dodge! You ever own a Cummins ?
very informative, thank you!
Glad you like the video, thanks for commenting.
great video with some great tips
Gald you liked it. cheersPaul.
I'm getting hot air from one air vent and not the other, what should I do?
thanks for this ...
A few days ago I couldn't get any heat whatsoever in my car, so I flushed the heater core about 4 times and alot of rust and gunk came out, and now I get some warm air but still not hot, and it only lasts a few seconds then back to cold air. Its got brand new coolant in it n everything so idk what the problem could be. Anyone know what would help?
awesome video!!
Iwish you are my teacher
Thanks for this great video!! But I have a question.. my car heater will stop working if i drive the car!! What do you think is the problem? It's BMW 2007 328i
Thank you again!
Did you ever figure out why mines doing that too
Porque no se calientan las mangueras que van para el haeter
I have a 94 1500 Chevy ..if you ever need to make a video my truck is yours
Ok thanks for giving me your truck.
Ratchets And Wrenches very cold where I am right now. Truck overheated lost radiator fluid put new radiator fluid temperature gauge not working. From this video I'm guessing is thermostat but I don't want to be wrong what's your thoughts my friend
Thanks 🙏
Good video. Some cars, like the bmw e34, have 3 hoses going into the firewall. 1 for each side and 1 return
Good to know, thanks for commenting.
I am getting heat but my fan has started making noises sounding like a bad bearing. It is not a constant sound and the noise will change sometimes if I turn the fan off and on. I have also noticed that there is occasionally a sound that comes from under the left side of the dash that sounds like someone shooting a tin can with a pellet gun. It is just one single "toink!". but it has happened a few times over the past few days...the fan noise is brand new. I drive a 2003 Pontiac Vibe, automatic trans. Any help would be appreciated.
Sounds like a problem I get all the time because I am too lazy to remove all the leaves that fall between the engine hood, from Canada and this is typical of the small crunchy leaves entering the blowing system (fan motor or along that route), hope this helps a bit, the different sounds are the leaves deteriorating and making new sounds, try cleaning around your blower motor or vents.
How about when the hot air will only come out of the defrost vents? 96 Crown Vic will only blow air out the windshield defrost vent. When I change the setting to the floor vents or cabin vents, nothing changes. It just keeps blowing out the defrost vents...
Probably a detached or broken cable between setting handle and the flap that directs the air.
Having an issue forwarding this video to a friend.
Question,if turn the climate control to heat, and turn the blower fan to ON position is automatic, kick ON the RADIATOR FAN.
The radiator fan no, but your blower fan. Your radiator fan or ac fan will come on if you turn your AC on.
With skill like your's in presenting, you should be on Fox News :D
I applied, no one with an IQ above 100 is allowed on Fox Noise.
@Womb Raider they may require low IQ, but Faux News requires zero IQ. herpderp
My battery drains in like 15 minutes, I recently replaced a ALT fuse and a fuel pump ecu. Doesn't anyone know what it could be? I can never start the car
You probally live somewhere that's mostly severely cold the majority of year. The more a vehicle is exposed to outside temps below 80 degrees the faster it will wear out and break down.
EXCELLENTe'!!!!
tx
I need someone to check my car can’t find the problem core look like is working but no hot hair
Will changing engine coolant help make heater hotter?
No
the only car that i hear liquid gushing around is from my car with the best heating. it's the other one that doesn't have good heating
Hey what's your opinion on performance thermostat that comes with a performance gasket??
Performance thermostat probably means it has a lower preset opening temp. They are okay if you have a moded engine. Its no big deal but use the gasket that comes with the performance tstat.
hectot zepeda My experience is that a 220° thermostat will take too long to open. By the time you almost get there, THEN it comes on! A 160° thermostat will cause the heater to take too long because it opens too soon. It can also cause over-heating because the thermostat allows too hot a temp. water to flow. The thermostat slows down the flow to help the radiator to cool off the water flowing thru it.
This is great. I probably just need to bleed it. I'm thinking i may have a $1000 problem.
Oh, make sure no more than 10 PSI! Flush!
How about if coolant is all over my car carpet?? Have to change the heather core??
Depending on design it could be seals/O-rings on the input/output of the core that have failed.
topcityjose yes
No, just change the carpet. Park the car.
Can anybody out there give me any suggestions my heat only blows hot when I give it gas when I come to a stop it blows cold I topped it off at the coolant so it's not low about to work on it tomorrow was just going to replace the thermostat the water pump flush the heater core and Bleed It any other suggestions on what to do
To me, it sounds like a water pump wearing out. Good luck, and yeah, I could be wrong..... But, I'm thinking that the only other issue might be air trapped inside your cooling system..... That happens to be what I think my current problem is...
@@mikemagnum7987 i replaced the pump and flushed the heater core and bleed the sys and it work great now
Blend door?
How do you do it on a sealed radiator,?,no radiator cap on mine,?
Then you use the expansion tank:)
