Thanks for featuring my painting of good ol' Phil !!
No problem
Great work
Nice painting
Excellent work!

Limp mode on the A4 will probably be the VNT vanes sticking in the turbo. Pretty common issue that can be fixed with Mr Muscle oven cleaner. It's a common enough issue so maybe we could get a CT video of how to sort it. Maybe starring Ethan 👍

If you`d ever been in a traffic accident you wouldn`t find it amusing
"Hello, police, what's your emergency?" "There's a man laying in the road." "Is he hurt?" "Not yet..."
The weirdest quirk I ever had in a car was my first car - an MG ZR 120. Brilliant fun car, but it had a habit of trying to kill me every now and then when turning right out of a T-junction. Basically, every now and then it'd just lose almost all of its power when pulling away, and it was only ever with turning right at a T-junction. Being a new driver, having only ever driven a surprisingly-reliable brand new small Peugeot up to that point, it caused quite the significant panic...during which I discovered the only way to avoid being killed by oncoming traffic - clutch in, rev it up past 5.5krpm and dump the clutch.
Of course, this had the effect of suddenly launching me forward, into a gap that may or may not have still been there given that I'd just trundled out into the middle of the road at about 4mph.
Loved that car, but I'm not convinced it loved me back.
Had a zr160 which had the clutch bite point of a on off switch. Many times did I wheel spin out of junctions trying to get Into a gap 😂
Oh it also had a habit of blowing coolant hoses on what felt like a weekly basis?
@@phur3i0n - I've currently got a ZS 180, and the clutch - aside from badly needing a replacement - is similarly an on/off device rather than the usual smooth continuous affair.
I don't care, though, because it's an otherwise hilarious car. I may even chuck it in for a "Roast My Ride" at some point, just to see if the boys have a) a properly-developed sense of humour, and b) taste that goes beyond "Hurrr, durrrr, E36..." ;)
I had a MG ZR 105 and it was the funniest little machine ever. The top of the gear knob would come off if you tried to go into 2nd or 4th😂. I was way too tall for it so my legs were always on the steering wheel. Great little car but god it was scary sometimes😂
@@mrphildo9899 - there's nothing quite like an old-school MG, with their traditionally "British casual" approach to build quality. Nothing quite fits and everything rattles, but somehow it always manages to translate into a car that's quirky but brilliant fun.
So that's why MG went out of business then, lol?
Turns out building dangerous, potentially murderous cars is not a good strategy to retain customers 😂

Best podcast around
Hahah, right! I just started my channel where I take trucks to the mountains and wreck em. I just wanna make some people laugh.
Car Throttle you guys are great! I hope you guys get your own Netflix series or something alongside your youtube stuff. Would be awesome.
Yep, I got a first gen. Saab 9-3 cabriolet from 2001. It has it own unique quirks, fun car! A very solid 2.0L turbo engine, which can make (with stock everything, only stage 1) 230 HP and 350 Nm. It will actually leave Golf GTI's behind when you have good gear shifts and launches (and tires)!
Do not expect a sporty (as in good steering) car. The steering is a bit weird, because you can feel every bump and is quite direct (while it is comfortable, with a big steering wheel, etc.) while the car itself is lacking some body rigidity (you need to make some steering corrections in corners when you are pushing it) while the car is being set up for comfort
I dont know why but im hooked on you guys podcast. i can easily relisten to it over and over without a problem!
I love how Gareth the only one using windows laptop and Jack finally can afford a laptop
Naufal Kusumah he just robbed it
Naufal Kusumah windows is better

44:56 Agreed. Also, only 3-series that looks better as a coupe than a sedan is the E36. The E92 and the E30 and E46 coupes looks more like 2 door sedans than coupes.
Best body style sedan/saloon all the way
Back to I-TA-LY (shows Italian hand gesture)
😂 lmao
Why did Gareth scoff at the guy buying a classic mini.
Epic little cars, dont knock it until you try one!
Not fast but the most fun in 4 wheels i have ever had
Yep absolutely! Also, it's quite cheap to make them go pretty quick, power to weight is a beauty. Ours will only do 85-90, but it accelerates like sh*t off a stick!
It’s mine haha. They are great fun but I’m fighting a loosing battle with rust. Getting a new front panel, both wings, both a panels, scuttle, dorr skins, rear panel and then I’ll have more metal than rust. I liked Gareth’s idea of the Saab but since miles is going I wouldn’t mind owning the post famous Octavia in the world
Austin Minis are the best Minis!
I can remember circa 2003 being in a college mates B reg Mini (deseamed and bumpered, Hi/Lo's, roll cage, bucket seats, 1275 engine, minilites etc) getting very close to a roundabout at the back of the Trafford Centre at around 45mph. I asked whether it should be time to start braking instead of still accelerating, to which he replied, don't worry....with literally the lightest of touches on the brake pedal and the tiniest left right flick of the steering wheel we had navigated said round about with 0 body roll and I was absolutely astonished at how quick it went across!
I feel bad for poor jack getting stitched up sitting on the ramp🤣 right leg must be deeed
32:53 that was my first thought, Saab 900turbo gives cool retro looks and it should be pretty reliable and it’s a turbo car
One last hoorah for Myles
Absolutely loving these podcasts guys this is getting me through the week 👍
Jack is the real MVP
45:36 i would choose Shooting Brake, basically a 4door coupe estate. it is cool
My 1998 toyota rav4 swb has a quirky headlight where once you turn on the high beams, you have to get out and smack the headlight and then it would come on. Its pretty much like one of those touch activated lamps.
The 1st and only lodcast i've watched/listened to!! My fav part of the week😁💪
quirky cars, I had a bertone x1/9, where the remote boot release and bonnet catch (mid engine) was inside the passenger door frame and locked with the key - think now with deadlocks, how secure!
The best body style imo is the long gone 3 door estate/shooting brake, like the old Opel Kadetts, Ford Escort, Volvo P1800ES etc
I used to have a ‘14 Chevy Malibu and for some reason the key fab would set off the alarms on 90’s Subaru Outback. It was the funniest thing ever, just leaving the store with a couple Subaru alarms going off.
Just got a 53 reg Mini Cooper that came with both windows broken. After a few smacks in the door cards, problem fixed.
Best quirk ever in a car!

@5:31 the biggest van you can drive on a standard uk license would be a Luton or similar box van.

@@nutshot_brawler8466 moral of the story, always watch the video to the end before going to the comments
I had a Citroen Xsara estate affectionately known as the green turd which was full of annoying quirks but stubbornly refused to ever manifest a proper mechanical issue and die.
The locks did the whole whack-a-mole thing for ages until the drivers door lock and door handle died entirely, to 'solve' this issue I simply stopped locking the car (who'd want to steal it?) and had to open the rear door and reach through and open the drivers door from the inside, this habit still plagues me and I have to fight the urge to open the rear door first 2 cars later.
Another quirk was that the front electric windows seemed to change switches every other day, sometimes you'd try to open the drivers window and the passenger window would open, sometimes the drivers, sometimes both or sometimes neither.
The windscreen wipers wouldn't work unless the lights were on which was inconvenient but not the end of the world. The rear windscreen wiper worked occasionally but only for the purpose of making you jump, you wouldn't realise you'd knocked the stalk forward until it suddenly screeched across the rear window at random and then returned to its slumber.
The automatic choke was a really bastard below 12C and would come on intermittently as you were driving, it'd be running fine and then it'd start lurching and stinking of fuel to the point where I reckon I was getting about 10mpg out of a 1.4 in the cooler months, the only cure was to rev the tits off it until it started to overheat and then it'd stop. Interestingly the auto choke wouldn't work on really cold mornings until roughly the 4th attempt at starting so that was fun.
The final quirk that I can remember was actually an intentional design feature that didn't really work as intended at any stage between leaving the factory and being scrapped from the design about 2yrs later. The car had passive rear wheel steering which allowed a bit of toe out on the outside wheel when under load, this was supposed to make the long ass boat of a car more nimble in car parks. The problem was that you couldn't really get sufficient load into the outside wheel to activate it at car park speed, it only happened at 30+ when you chucked the car into a corner with some gusto. It wasn't super dangerous or anything but every now and then you'd get the car leaning into a bend and then you'd get a weird kind of oversteer creeping in and you had to reduce the steering angle slightly to correct for it. It only caught me out once when the boot was slightly overloaded and I spun on a roundabout as the car suddenly decided to oversteer about halfway round an otherwise normal turn.
I do kind of miss the green turd in a strange way, it was slow, shit and a disaster waiting to happen but it'd always get you where you needed to go despite constantly threatening not to. Oh and the warning lights would always briefly flash on at 72 mph, no idea why, guess it got scared or something?
Man I love these podcasts
22:58 mine 1.9tdi did the same try cleaning the EGR that fixed mine, or the vacuum regulator is bad and causing overboosting
Great work again Car Throttle, stage 4 restrictions here in Melbourne and curfews etc so Mums M2 Competition will be clean and tucked away in garage more now hahah, :o), love this series keep it up :)
My other car was off the road over winter so I had to daily my classic mini to work in the winter. I finish at 2am so it was 2am and -5 degrees. I have to put my key in the door to unlock it as 30 year old minis don’t have central locking. In the winter the locks freeze shut so in order to get in i have to get a lighter and light my key on fire to heat it up then put it in the lock yo unfreeze it.
Just watched in that’s my question lol
I went off at the chicane (it's a bit of a blind bend in a dip) in my E30 on the first lap at Castle Coomb many years ago. No damage and I carried on. Great fast little track
JACK NEEDS TO CELEBRATE HE HAS A LAPTOP OMGGGGGG YAYAYAYA
Hi guys just wanted to say keep it up great content 👍
I’d agree with jack about the Impreza saloon/estate. If I wanted an estate Subaru, I’d buy a 90’s/very early noughties legacy 😍
Good to hear jacks a fan of the defender :)
Main reason why I don't stop to help people along the road who appear to have broken down (even though I'd like to), is because of the warnings and stories about people on bridges, or laying on the floor on roads.
Jack, the Audi going into limp mode randomly could be turbo pipes/turbo vains.. worth a look! I had a pd Leon which got progressively worse and the turbo pipes needed replaced
It’s a very similar situation with our old Skoda Octavia. Among many other issues
to jacks "quirk": the passat of my parents had a similar issue. it always switched to this mode when it was still cold/ not fully warmed up and you gave a bit more throttle. it was a gummed up particle filter. the problem was "solved" by driving the car, once warmed up, kinda high revving for some time every now and then burning the filter free of any residue (since we live in germany we would just go down the autobahn at 200kph for 20mins. obviously when we actually had to go somewhere, not just for the heck of it)
+Car Throttle I live in JA and i saw one of the old jaguars you guys used in project mud type parked in someone's driveway
Longer podcast guys nice!!
My neighbor was recently clearing out a previous owners garage and throwing stuff in a skip.
Having recently bought a mig welder I needed practice and he let me take some scrap metal from it.
I found exhaust parts and cut them up, ran beads and spots all over them for hours.
Turns out it was an exhaust from a Saab 900 Turbo and I'm scared about how much money my "scrap metal" was worth.
I have my E30 as a daily driver and it’s quirky for sure lol. My driver’s window gets stuck and won’t roll up or down until I violently slam the door while holding the button down. I need to smack the dash to get the left half of the dash lights and the tempt gauge to turn on. The car charger is just a decoration at this point. The fender liners like to unmount themselves randomly every few weeks. My ignition key can be easily pulled out while the car is running, and It only locks from the trunk. It’s the best car I have ever and I wouldn’t give it up for anything! And the M50 swap has (almost) never failed me in the last 15-20k miles
100% touring! Love my E91.
Unpopular opinion though... Does anyone else hate it when they see people who cable tie their numbers plates over the bottom grill even through there is a recess in the bumper. Not only does it ruin cooling, it also just looks shit!
Sell or give Miles back to his former owner, who put the miles on it.
They tried that already
@G S W I just rematched it I thought they had gave it him back but was wrong. 100% need a petition
OMG that is one piece of proper art!!

"wait, WTF were they actually taking about?! 🧐" lol
Yeah, in Finland kids chuck icy snow blocks from bridges during winter.

Hatchback because you've got the cool 2 doors (or 4 if you feel spacey) and a big boot and door. Additionally, they can differ largely in style from Toyota Celica to VW Golf.
Hi Guys, love the podcasts. Unrelated question to ask you what video editing software do you use for your channel?

25:00 europcar gave me recycled ♻ Renault, I mean dacia like that in South Africa. Brnad new car piece of crap. Aways went off at the intersection. But its great for hijacking. It scares the bandits cause they think your expecting them lol
For me the body style I'd go with is probably the Hatchback. Useful and fun to drive generally.
Alex the jingle is very popular with deaf people
Ive had the same issue with my A4 - it’s the veins on the turbo which have gunked up resulting in over-boost. Use mr muscle oven cleaner to free it up (lots of instructions on net) Now that would be a fun video!
Hey I know how to fix your limp mode on the audi. Its called the Mr. Muscle fix for VW cars. Your essentially going to fill the exhaust side of the turbo with oven cleaner. Leave it while you reassemble it drive to clean it out and you're good for about 20k miles.
The weirdest quirk i ever experienced was in my first car, a 1987 Jaguar XJ-S that I bought second hand in 2011 for $1500. The windscreen seal leaked so whenever it rained water would leak down into the fuse box and short out various circuits including the windscreen wipers. The net effect was having functioning windscreen wipers up until it would start to rain at which point they'd just stop in the middle of the windscreen. The heater would always stop working in the winter and the A/C would always cease function around May of each year as well. I sold it on but missed it too much and am now doing a full resto on an '86 XJ-S.
Shooting-brake and coupé are the coolest body styles in my opinion. I do like a 5 series saloon or any American muscle saloon. But a fast car has got to be a coupe or shooting brake 👌🏻
My favourite quirk a car had was my old polo: The central locking (vacuum system) broke, so being the poor student I was, I just used the key in the door... Until I broke the door lock, and only a week or two later I broke the passenger lock, so I had to open the boot, and lean in the car to open the door from the inside. Sometimes I'd just jump in the car entirely from the boot.
Oh, and it would also randomly cut out while driving. I had 3 garages look at it, including a proper VW dealer, and nobody could figure it out (or wanted to proper diagnose it)
That's a vacuum leak but it sounds of the way it stall those when you're driving along or taking off was it idling weird as well
@@neilmurphy845 The car actually ran pretty well, it had some idling issues, but I fixed that by cleaning the junk out of the throttle body, it had new sparkplugs and everything, when it ran, it ran pretty well. Then in the middle of driving, it would cut out sometimes, often I could just restart it like James does, while still in motion, but sometimes it just wouldn't restart for a while until it had sat for a bit. The problem got worse over time, and nobody could figure it out, so I sadly got rid of it. It wasn't overheating either, it must've been some electronics gremlin.
@@kennytheamazing ya must have been a wire or computer or something sounds like some sort of crank signal intimately cutting out

My two friends were driving home from pub when throttle cable snapped from pedal, so what they did the passenger was leaning to driver and listening to instructions and puling cable , but since they were drunk and ignoring each other instructions they were driving full throttle for like 12km. Car was golf 2 diesel 4 speed
The footwear of you lot 😂😅😂😅😂
Saloon vs coop. This should be a full pod.
Quirks in vehicles: last year (i was in 9th grade) we were in a double layer bus on our way to school. Me and my friends found out that a kick at a secret place at the top front seat ACTIVATED THE DRIVERS WINDSCREEN WIPERS. We got kicked out😂
Best body style is surely hatchback? Tidy 2 box layout and good proportion!
@Jack - I have an Alfa 159 and it was going into limp mode... it was coming up with Check Gearbox and would only go to 3rd gear. I got around that when driving by flcking it to N then back to D and it would go into the right gear to match the speed... I plugged it into a cheap bluetooth code reader (fiver) and it was coming up with cruise control. It was the brake switch not sometimes reponding. It was only 20 quid to replace and easy to do myself (I'm a bit of an Ethan...). Might be something worth checking?
That Glaswegian accent was on point 😂😂

A local truck driver was nearly killed a couple of years ago about 3 miles from my house when a group of young lads through sandbags off of a fly over completely destroying the passenger side A pillar folding the roof and smashing the windscreen. He was extremely lucky that they did not hit his side of the cab.
The only weird quirk I've had so far was with my Renault 5, I turned right on an intersection, floored it and the car went back to idle, stopped responding to throttle. Pressed in the clutch tried revving, no response, let go of the clutch and I had throttle again. Never happened again
It's really time for Alex to get an Alfa with a Busso V6.
