I went with the Corsair MP600 Mini SSD and Hagibis MC100. Had to format the ssd with Mac's disc manager before it showed it up on the iPhone 15 Pro. Thanks for the recs!
How's it been so far? My Hagibis MC100 should arrive here in 4 days. Looking at the Corsair MP600 mini SSD or the Core edition which is cheaper. Lower speeds, but still more than enough. Should work too.
Thank you for your research with the SSD for iPhone, question, I also want to connect the Røde Wireless Pro, do you also have a solution for this? thank you in advance
Man. You are really awesome. Thank you for putting in your valuable time and effort to give all these very clear options and testing parameters. Amazing.
Hello! Great video! My question is, will the two options you mentioned for external recording also work for an android phone such as a Samsung S22? I'm speaking of the Acasis with Corsair MP600 and the Hagibis with the Crucial P310. Thank you!
Will the Acasis with 6 port big drive running an 8tb ssd still communicate with iPhone through the usb 3.2 ports. And will the 40 watt connection communicate with iPad Pro?
It should, yes. Though it might be required to have it connected to the power outlet. As for the second question - yes, the pass through charging should charge the iPad Pro.
First off, thanks so much for this video. It was very well composed and touched on all of the important points that I wanted to know. One question: When filming with the cooler attached, do you hear the fan in the recording?
Thank you! As for the fan: yeah it produces a slight hiss, yes. It can be removed in post with some software like Isotope RX, but yeah that’s an extra step.
bro should i buy this or go with t7 shield because both are same money , i want to backup photos and videos from my 15 pro max pls suggest me the good one in amall budget..
Thanks so much for this in depth review. I`m looking for a good ext Storage device for my iPhone 15 pro with ProRes capable speed and the best price and dimensions. I think I`m going with the Hagibis (+512 GB Sharkspeed SSD) because I don`t have to unplug it for charging and the usb c cable is even slimmer than the one on the acasis. Really nice comparison!
I too was considering the Hagibis MC100 before finding this review. Thanks for the analytics, much appreciated! I went with the Corsair MP600 Mini. Initialized disk with Disk Management (Windows) and formatted exFat. I wont keep files on this drive, as I plan to offload them to the laptop.
Wow! Very impressive analysis; thank you! I'm hoping your recs will work with the Hohem iSteady M6 gimbal, without being too top-heavy. Any thoughts? In any case I will upload to a desktop/laptop and edit there or using Capcut etc. Well done.
Hello - great video ! I purchased several of these also to find the best option, and I established that cosmetically, the JEYI enclosure was the lightest, more direct and compact way to record ProRest video into my iPhone Pro Max 15. My joy at their great design quickly turned to disappointment when each attempt to record ProRes gave me the "write speeds too slow" dialog after spinning to process the file. I am using a Sabrent Rocket 2230 and the JEYi connects, lights correctly etc. Based on your recommendations and tests, I do not quite understand why the write speeds are not sufficient ? Thank you for any help...
It might be due to many reasons. The few that come to my mind: the SSD may be quite full and/or JEYI box gets quite hot. The default iPhone app records the highest bitrate possible (ProRes HQ), so you may want to try recording something more lightweight: ProRes or ProRes LT.
Awesome comparison of SSD drives, would you consider reviewing the DockCase Pocket Photography Edition M.2 2230 Enclosure to the Hagibis and Acasis enclosures? It has some smart features and an interesting display to show read/write speeds, as well as 1/4-20 threads to mount to other parts of a camera rig. Very nifty and useful. But it doesnt have the USB PD port that the Hagibis has (although the Acasis is missing that feature to).
it would be so easy to create a case that plugs into the usb-c slot on the iphone and that runs an m.2 drive in it, i really dont know why all these ugly alternatives exist
Honestly, a good idea, I’d love to have one. The main problem that one has to make a case for the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. :) And once one upgrades to a new phone, they’ll have to wait for that manufacturer to produce the new case and buy it then.
@@GeeksTable You have a point there, though i do find it weird that no one has even tried to make one and failed. There seems to be a market for it given the many youtibe videos about the subject. I even wondered whether Apple have outlawed this or soemthing because it would open them up to adding more storage (unlikely though)
Hmm, at around 19:30, are you sure the 9 degrees C on the Hagibis MC 100 with power and fan is correct? Shouldn't it be 19 degrees at best? Air cooling simply can't get temperatures below ambient and I doubt you were in a 9 degree c room whilst recording all these data points given all the other temperatures listed. The rest looks fine so I'm assuming this is just a small typo, pretty good data overall
Thanks for the feedback! I had the same impression of that fan before I bought it and tested it - I thought it’s just a pass through fan, but Razor did something similar to what you’d have in a full PC cooler: it has some sort of material inside which - when the fan is on - gets really cold (I mean COLD cold). Of course I measured the phone and enclosure the same moment I took the fan off and of course in a few moments it was above +9 because of the surroundings, but I stand to the accuracy of my measurements, it really cools the stuff down.
Hi Alex, I bought Acasic EC-6609 Air as your recommendation. One thing I noticed that it's get warm when connect with my iphone even I'm not shooting video. Is that normal? Does Samsung T7 get warm too?
It may work but you’ll need the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter and a constant connection to the power outlet. Also the speeds will be limited to 480 MB/s.
Firstly, let me commend you on a brilliant presentation... excellent. Just some questions please, Alex. I'm not very savvy so bear with me. I use an iphone 12 mini because I like smaller phones. Without understanding cables and compatibility etc, can I attach a Hagibis device to my 12 and easily transfer the photos and videos to the device while I'm travelling? My need is this - I travel for 5 weeks at a time and prefer to travel light. Take pics and videos all day, then wish to store/transfer them each night for when I return back home at the end of the trip. Please advise... and thank you again for your excellent work.
Thank you! I appreciate it! Short answer: you can but it’s not easy and quite clumsy. You may need to attach your phone to the “Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter”, then Hagibis to that adapter and finally the Lightning charging cable to that adapter. The other part of the charging cable should be connected to the outlet of course. Without the power it won’t work. Also the speeds will be limited to 480mb/s. My take: it’s not worth it. Alternatively just search for some Lightning Flash Drives, buy one and copy the stuff to there once the iPhone 12 mini is full. Usually those flash drives have their own iOS app to manage files and usually that app looks like a 5yo made it but better than nothing. The speed will still be limited to USB2.0.
@GeeksTable: Great video! I just a quick question about an older video of yours named "iMac 2021 with VESA - unboxing & review". In this video you unboxed your iMac with a VESA adapter and mounted on a monitor arm. I am having a similar case - but my question is - These preinstalled VESA adapters cannot be taken off and install a spare standard Apple stand if we wish to do that?
I’m afraid it’s not that easy (aka impossible). The VESA adapter (and the stand) are attached from the inside of the iMac. So in order to swap, one has to literally tear the iMac apart.
@@GeeksTable Jeez :( That would be like troublesome and if I wanted to get it done I would have to hire someone? Is there anyway I could get in touch with you over email? I am really stuck and would appreciate your two cents on the situation. Thanks bro.

Hi, was wondering if the iPhone would get hot when recording ProRes for 2 hours with Blackmagic App to external ssd not attached to the iPhone? Does it actually use the internal iPhone SSD at all? And if recording internal (provided you have a lot of internal storage), would it make a difference temperature wise if recording internal or external? And can you attache a USB microphone to the Hagibis MC100?
yep, iPhone gets quite hot regardless. I get overheating message after approx. 30 minutes of ProRes HQ recording. So I’m unsure if you can get 2 hours without a cooler attached to the phone. Hagibis has a model MC100 Pro, it has an extra USB for the mic.
