@@THEDPJOURNEY agreed, I do not like to be overly expensive for mobile accessories and would rather pump that money into camera gears instead. And I already has all the 82mm VND filters, polariser, dark mist filters laying around.

Yeah also true. I tested one of these rigs with the 67mm thread and saw how stacking their kit filters will vignette on 13mm, amongst MANY other issues that could take a whole other video to cover Funny how no one talks about them: they don’t wanna piss off brands I guess

Great to hear, keep me posted then, would love to check them out since you guys seem to know the perfect combination of features to pack in such a small handle. Feel free to share my video
Finally thank you! I always wanted a cheaper setup and saw the MagSafe lens attachment as a cheaper option but couldn’t conceptualize other cheaper parts that would make it more functional.
Thank you, again, for this advice. I appreciate your stance on *buying the equipment independently, testing, and reporting out on those tests I modeled my iPhone rig after your first example, and was glad to use my own filters instead of mediocre filters from a hardware manufacturer. Intrigued about how to leverage MagSafe for more modularity.
Yeah it took me a while to find a good combo honestly. I honestly had concerns about MagSafe, but then realized it's stronger than I expected. It's always good to be cautious if you add a heavy Filter or stack a bunch on top of each other. Thanks again for your support.
Freewell is still great, but again, you'll just need to buy their filters, which is still a limited selection. But since you have it already, then no need for this rig. This one is more for a budget filmmaker who needs a more portable and practical solution.
Another brilliant video, packed with so much valuable information-it’s definitely worth watching two or three times. I highly encourage everyone I meet to subscribe to this channel!
THANK YOU for making and putting this vid out in the universe! Super helpful! I've been on a mission to create a pockable, functionalabl, and flexible video rig with my iPhone. Your solution is perfect!
I watched your last video and 3d printed the parts based on your design and it worked great I just found there was a ton of light leaks coming through front screen of the phone so everytime i used it i had to tape the front to prevent it. I’m so HAPPY you released another solution! I’ll definitely be trying this rig out now.
Really glad you tried the first one, and yeah this one is more focusing in Magdafe solution for speed of setup basically. Hope you also like this one once you try it. Thanks again
@THEDPJOURNEY That's gonna be my first rabbit den that I look into. I'm VERY accustomed to hacking and modifying stuff to get what I need. So, I could probably find one of those filter holders that would, at least, be modifiable. My main goal is to be able to use that handle/tripod/Arca-Swiss-Plate thing.
Thanks to the algorithms to put this video in my feed! Really like your presentation and in-dept knowledge yet still keeping it understandable. Subscribed and following you now.
Awesome Video, thanks a lot putting together and showing a budget friendly Smartphone Rig. I was always under the impression that iPhone Rigs are can be expensive but happy that I am wrong. Now I am more eager to buy both filter mount and the articulated handle.
Yeah I believe this would be a great start before you consider investing in any other more expensive rig. You might end up never buying one anyway after this. Glad I can help
Yes, the magsafe filter mount is awesome. It is so flat that it even fits behind a phoneclamp. I should've listened to you and by 82 mm filters. I got 77mm and on the wide angle lens of the phone, it shows up on one edge. Thanks for your minimalistic set ups! They're great and excellent for travelling and low budget!
Great setup and video! I'm on my own quest for the holy grail of iPhone rigs and it seems that the market is still evolving for more compact and versatile accessories. Your combo might be the closest option to my current needs 🙂
Thank you so much for the comment, yes, the market is still evolving, and every brand wants to have their own cash grab from their proprietary ecosystem, hopefully with my video and a lot of other filmmakers’ DIY solutions, who got frustrated from their lack of care about what we really need, brands will come back to their senses and start creating rigs that are Following the standards other than their own
I feel you, but if you already have a bunch of them, it's what makes sense. Which filter sizes do you have, was always curious what others have or invested in
Fantastic! I ended up getting the same magnetic mount setup (minus the add-ons + VND filters, I got a cheaper one, but also from K&F) Overall a very solid setup! Thanks!
This is awesome ... Unfortunately I have a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL but I have a Magsafe case on it. I can do just if it but still have to find a ND filter to fit over my camera. Great video
Small rig sent me their rig actually, found many massive flaws in it that I couldn’t review it. One of the reasons why I thought of this one. Thanks again for your support
Absolutely, it’s just more expensive. Now it’s on sale. But out of sale it’s 50% more expensive. I’ll upload a short to show how you can fit it in this setup
Excellent, excellent video: Content, presentation, explanations, thought through details and viewing time - Bravo, Bravo-! I will check if this rig works for my IPhone 13 Pro Max, if so I will build this fantastic rig for the very reasons you mention it’s perfect for me, many thanks for sharing your experience with us! Looking forward to your upcoming Videos. A simple man. Zack🙋🏼
Thank you so much Zack for your super kind comment and compliments, really happy you find this setup good for you. Let me know how it goes once you check it on you iPhone 13
I saw it, but it has 3 problems: 1-it takes the place of the MagSafe that I need for the handle. 2- it doesn’t have a a MagSafe magnet on the exposed side if I need to mount the handle maybe . 3-it doesn’t have a built in battery, so it’ll need power still through external battery, forcing me to go back to my top handle setup+battery With that said, it didn’t solve much for me
Jumped on getting one of those tripods, I have a few employed for various tasks. While I’m not a film maker as an artist I love photographing everything with my iPhone Pro. Finding ones one set-up is more fun that being locked into one brands system. Wonder if I might benefit from filters in any way?
This setup doesn't work if you have a 16 pro max. According to reviews. FYI. The increases size cause light leakage. But I happen to have the exact case you have with my 16 pro max. Lol. This setup looks amazeballs. Gonna get 3-4 of the parts next week to start. Very good video.
I mean I personally didn’t see any light leaks that would affect the result at all. It’s so small it’s hard to leak anything. Even if it did, it’s a super easy gaff tape fix. I assume these reviewers are not filmmakers and don’t know how to fix such simple issues.
What a great rig and video! Sadly, the Magsafe filter mount link currently directs to an Amazon search results page without this filter mount on it :( Any chance you could provide us with a new link?
I would LOVE to see your review on Red Komodo and Komodo X. Wanna understand the elephant in the room, since for many DPs this camera is a big deal for the price.
Honestly most of cameras out there are pretty good for high production. Unless you go for big boy toys like Alexa. It all goes down to what features you need. Global shutter in Komodo is one big thing, but it’s important for very specific type of scenarios anyway. I have the Raptor, I feel the X has similar (if not identical) performance.
This is great! Could you make a follow up video if this is a good fit with the new Lexar Professional Go? if it is it would be a perfect rig because you'd be able to - connect an external mic like the DJI Mics - connect an external cable for charging - while still having an external SSD and the rest of the rig ready
True, I did consider that solution, but its size is pretty big it prevents me from using the 82mm filters. I would use it though if I’m not using filters. I still need to test it though
Excellent video as always. Seriously appreciate your production value/presentation. In theory, could one put a strong enough magsafe ring on the back of the magsafe tripod, then attach a magsafe hub on the back of it? (I realize you'd be stacking 3 magsafe adapters at that point, so the weight distribution, compatibility, and safety concerns may arise there, just a thought!)
First, thank you so much for the kind words, about the MagSafe stacking, I think it should be fine because the weight is not added to the phone side, but to the other side basically. But my only concern is how it might interfere with the field of view of the 13 mm lens, unless it’s a very flat USB-C hub.
@@THEDPJOURNEY Right. My concern was the filter compatibility too. But more so the overall fit; I don't think I'd be using the wide lens in most cases when configuring the ssd and mic on the phone itself. Not a fan of the wide anyway. So I see the value in attempting this build without the handle solution. I may go this route. Give it a try sometime!
i love the setup! personally i go for neewer case (not cage) cause it can fit any 67mm filters even stacked them + the new lexar go hub ssd, cause it just work, no hassle of try and error, and also the case also have magsafe, i can use any magsafe accessories
The magnet may be strong but on my case the glue mounting it to the case failed and my phone dropped (fortunately on grass). I had to super glue it and for now seems to hold. A physical bayonet type connection would be more secure.
A MagSafe sticker is for sure not recommended at all. That’s why I was recommending that specific case since it seems to have a strong magnet. Even with that I won’t trust it much in a very action type of shoot. Glad your phone survived
You should add the Hagibis SSD instead then you don’t need the hub. The Hagibis SSD has three USB-C ports, one for mic, one for power and one for the host phone. You should also add USB-C L adapters for the Mic and SSD if you want to stick with this setup so they don’t stick out but are flush with the battery. :)
I already checked those out, and someone else already commented and recommended those. In a nutshell, they won’t work because you still need to add a battery to it and it will prevent you from using the MagSafe handle as well. Also keep in mind. This would eventually stick out once you start adding cables and Mike receiver, which could end up interfering with the field of view of the 13mm lens.
Yeah I was actually thinking of working on a short update video to answer all these questions, but in the meantime, you can use this case from NEEWER that has a 17mm lens mount and it's also magsafe compatible. geni.us/iPhn16PMNEEWERCS
Thanks for sharing the video! It’s great! I tried this on my iphone 15 pro (“mine is not max version”) Everything is good, except the “82 mm” cpl vnd k&f filter. It is too big and it does not fit well together with the magsafe handle. Also the filter is too heavy.. If you use the same cpl vnd k&f filter on 15 pro or 16 pro - not max version -, it would be better to get a smaller one with this set up.. (not 82mm)..
Thanks!
Oh WOW!! Thanks Maggie, a beautiful XMAS gift!

Outstanding
Cheers thanks
now trying to figure out where a wide angle lens would fit in this arrangement.
I have a solution actually. Working on shooting a video aboutbit
Now I need to figure out a way to apply these great insights and lessons my Android system. 😂
You could always use a phone case with a MagSafe ring on it!
great suggestions..great vid. subscribed 🙌
Much appreciated! Thanks for subscribing.
great work
Much appreciated
wow, just WOW.
Is there a way to mount anamorphic lens to this rig? Not sure if there are any that would match this.. unless with a clop-on mount?
Yeah I was actually thinking of working on a short update video to answer all these questions, but in the meantime, you can use this case from NEEWER that has a 17mm lens mount and it's also magsafe compatible. geni.us/iPhn16PMNEEWERCS
@@THEDPJOURNEY Thank you for quick reply!!:)
Realy good one this keep it in mind for sure, but how much footage of time can I put one the ssd 1 tb card
It all depends on you resolution and format, but it should be more than enough for a day’s shoot unless you’re shooting in 120 ProRes all day long
@@THEDPJOURNEY say 4K and 25fps I want to use it for travel 🧳 do you have any idea …. Thanks so for
@@THEDPJOURNEY and on HEVC H2.65
If i were only interested in a light + Mic + portable charger, what would i need from this list to make that happen? 5:20 answered my question
