- Did you know London Cab Drivers have a unique language they use that is related to their industry and the city they work in. In this episode I'll introduce you to some of these intriguing words and phrases and explain the meaning behind them. Apparently Islington High Street used to be such a rough area late at night that cabbies used to switch off their lights going through it. Wish I'd known that while walking back to Spitalfields after a leaving do some 30 years ago!

I’ve heard another theory on the term ‘Butterboy’; in that it refers to older, more experienced cabbie putting a younger - newly passed out driver in his place by saying : “what do you know, you’re nothing but a boy”. ‘But-a-boy’.

Hi Mark, I always enjoy your videos. I think it is very unfair to ask a cabbie to get you there quickly, especially nowadays with all the 20 mph speed restrictions.
No driver wants to risk a fine and points on his licence.

Just become a PH driver and few days ago had a passenger picked up at 13:55 and she had to be there for 14:00 and the route was 15 mins long… started the usual mumbling, turn off music, how long etc.
Yep hurry up jobs are a pain! I tell them now that they will be late after all it was them that didn’t manage their time properly
London ex-Uber driver of 7 years. Packed it in late October ‘22. Got this frequently. Always women with their head up their ass. Used to drive them to the nearest Tube station & boot them out. Dip5hits that can’t manage their time.

I thought 'Butter Boy' meant , 'Oh he's But a Boy' ( a Newbie / Inexperianced ) Are you sure your explanation is Gospel ?
This one I literally had 5 or 6 different interpretations from london cabbies! Had one today saying it was because butter-boys stole the butter from the bread of the older drivers, thanks for watching and your feedback is great! M
