• How does a London taxi... - Авто та транспорт
As long as I've got a hole in my posterior (that's putting it politely) there's no way I'll sign up to that company, which its moral compass is completely way off.
Hello Mark, My name is Kathleen O’Keefe and I am the owner operator of a (Wilmington, North Carolina) ILM Airport Taxi. I admire “the knowledge”. I too have encountered Uber here at the airport, some of the other cab drivers also do Uber and Lyft. I tried Uber at one time, but I don’t like their business model, also, their vehicles are never inspected, mine is inspected every quarter, Uber charges 20% of whatever you earn, plus they charge $3.00 to $5.00 for every ride you get, and they do surge pricing, which can be 3 times what I charge on the meter. I like being a taxi! Like you here in Wilmington, North Carolina, we are right now in our fat season, however come October we start what we call the thin season until March. Lucky for me I have some very nice top shelf clients that help me get through. I like watching your videos because I get to see London. I am originally from NYC, but had a very different life there, I would never be a cabbie in NYC. Keep up the good work, looking forward to your next videos.
I prefer professional drivers that know where they are going, instead of non professional drivers who rely on a sat nav.
Look at their Corporate history. Money trumps all. Misogynistic and racist culture
In Glasgow about 60% of our black cabs are part of an owners association. We have an app similar to uber and a call centre. We can get work from the app or from street hails. They also have corporate account work from lots of different organisations. Councils, banks, railway operators etc. Surprised the London Cabbies don’t really have something similar at scale, given the amount of business that takes place in the capital.
A couple did get launched but then sold the trade out . 😮
We did have something similar to that called Comcab but that’s long since gone. No we just have the big standard apps. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a busy Xmas
I Did not do the knowledge to only go join Uber . No way
I have nothing to say other than wishing the black cab trade the best - best product for the customer and that’s the final word. Said from a twice daily user!
The sad thing is, a lot of people just want the cheapest ride. I know black cabs have suffered a lot since uber came about, and all the other cheaper rides. But, the drivers don't speak English or even know London,
I drive for uber, best bit advice i can give is stay well clear.
Hi mark you are 100 percent right great video
Thanks Baz, you have a great Xmas!
Hi Mark have a great Christmas 🎄
In my opinion I wouldn’t slate them before knowing more. There’s nothing wrong with having a “backup” for fares if street hailed work is low on the ground at a particular time… I drove private hire for Uber in Glasgow. It’s the more popular option for visitors as they can use their app even coming from the US for example. Safer for the drivers as there’s much less chance of being robbed or having a fare dodger.
I definitely wouldn’t slate any driver on a ride hailing app, as I say in the video I wish them all the best. I do think that some of the big tech companies need closer scrutiny as far as fair practice and driver support is concerned. Thanks for watching and have a great Xmas!
Last January wasn't too bad
Actually thinking back it was ok wasn’t it, hope we have similar this year. Thanks for watching
Hi mark it up you are doing a great job and having fun making some brilliant videos superstar Ali Walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6 Walsall churckery
Thanks for watching Ali! I appreciate your support
I surrendered my badge, the cab trade has been sold out, again!
Do you recon that whilst trying to learn the knowledge being an Uber in London is a good way to learn?
Yes! I know many students who are driving for ride hailing apps and learning the K at the same time.
You could do that. But when your doing the knowledge. You need to focus on the knowledge. So once you do the routes. You need to read over them and memories them. So doing work and doing the routes at the same time would be hard.
Without even watching your video, I have seen enough videos from Uber drivers being scammed, verbally and even physically abused by passengers. Moreover from what ive seen most Uber drivers are not paid too well for what they have to put up with. As for me I would always prefer to pay a little extra for a properly licensed chauffeur who's vehicle is inspected to higher standards and is regulated by some official body. I'll be doing a bit of international travel in '24 and will be using a proper taxi service. Especially when I go to the Philippines.
I’ve nothing and against any Uber driver I really hope they make good money to support their families and are treated well by these big tech companies. The video talks Marie about the Uber offer and how they had a fractious relationship with the taxi trade.
I would not download it , but drivers very desperate would probably snide off
They are getting g a lot of publicity out of it.
I was on the understanding that if you were a Hackney carriage driver you weren’t allowed to work for Uber. You had to be a private hire driver?
We can work for many ride hailing apps if we choose to, and they offer the facility for the Hackney carriage or we can work for none. They are booking platforms that connect a licensed driver with the customer. Legacy booking systems like comcab and radio taxis did the same thing, just the technology has changed really
No chance and any driver signing up with them should hand in their badge.
Uber has supposed to have changed into an organisation that now will follow the rules and regulations of every major city it operates in and adhere to its regulations.
It still uses its corporate clout to manipulate the law. Cross border hiring was never an issue until Uber appeared.
Wish i could have been a fly on the wall at TFL offices when Uber discussed bringing us into the uber fold with Mr Kahn.
How much money did Uber spend on its papers with the Adam smith institute to destroy the London taxi trade.
I would never drive for those jokers . This was tried before and it failed last time . What has changed??
Definition of madness, trying the same thing over and over again and hoping for a different result.
Could you not just take the cash from them then run ?
a bit pay back
I’m trying to find out if any other cabbies had done that, if so I might do the same! Thanks for watching
I'm not joining.
Don't see the deal could be lucrative, better than sitting on a slow moving taxi rank scratching you're Golfballs 😂
Do uber take wheelchairs? No ? isn,t there a disability act?
I understand your old boys don’t want to give in to uber but just remember what happened with blockbuster & Netflix .
We do use ride hailing apps as it is, and we have certainly been around for way longer than Uber. Thanks for watching!
@@Marktaxi blockbuster was around for longer but look what happened to them when they didn’t want to move with the times
@@bigjohn5689 I don’t think Bockbuster started in 1897! I already drive on 2 ride hailing apps one charges no commission
@@Marktaxi blockbuster started in 1985 and ended in 2014 . If they had taken the deal with Netflix and moved with the times they would have still been around. This is the same issue with the black cabs. They would rather hold a grudge against people who choose to move with the times, Be smart be sensible .
@@bigjohn5689 If you’d like to book me on a ride hailing app you will find me on @taxiapp or @freenow both ride hailing apps are very much moving with the times.
Don’t do it.
Uber P/H drivers used to pay 25% commission , they now get fleeced over 40% so you can see what Uber's model is.
Dont do it guys , youve worked to hard to let that company mug you off anymore than they already have.
As far as I’ve noticed there is still no black taxi option available on the Uber app so I’m guessing their recruitment drive has failed considering it’s nearly March, thanks for watching
@originalpickaxe you are 100% correct. It's a race to the bottom. Don't join you will end up working longer hours. More milage for less and less fare price.
IF the black cab drivers decide to join uber, most likely they will incorporate a 2 tier system for the passangers. Expensive fare black cabs and a cheaper fare for non black cabs. The passanger can decide. If they are in a rush most likely will take the black cab, if not then they will opt for non black cabs. The issue with uber is they keep lowering the fare price. Each year its getting lower and lower. My advice would be to stay away from the uber app. They are taking advantage of the drivers. Below minimum wage.
No way uber. Sorry I would never work for you!
