10 years ago the 328 coupe offered a 3.0L 6 and put out a measly 230hp and 200ft-lbs, today's 4 banger besides being a lighter engine and better fuel economy gives you an extra 25/95 over an engine that is 50% larger. Maybe you got spoiled by driving EV's or high output cars but 0-60 under 6sec is quite respectable, but for today's congested roads and high price of gas, it is more than adequate for 90% of the population. I have C300 wagon with 255/273 and it is plenty quick for what it is, way more peppy than my previous W203 and W204 with a 6cyl. Would I prefer the C43, of course but not at the +$15,000 premium and added fuel cost. Though some of the extra cost items for the BMW 430 are crazy expensive
BMWs have got very heavy of late! Sure, ever increasing equipment levels and safety regs inevitably add weight to all cars, but still I would've expected BMW to control the weights of its cars better! As regards to the grille, I like it! I think it makes the car's looks more purposeful and sporty.
Totally agree. I’m often impressed with how well Porsche can keep the weight of their sports cars in check so it can be done. That initial acceleration demo was the most anticlimactic thing I’ve seen on yt in awhile 🤣
@@steveo85 Now imagine a 420i with 190 hp.
I like the grill (without a plate of any sort having to be on it). I really like the overall look of the car. I LOVE the fact this thing (or any German car) is made in Deutschland....huge plus. As a desert dweller I'd like the option of no moon/pano roof.
Great review! Looks like Malaga Cove and upper Lunda Bay drive.
Could the manual seats be because of the current microchip shortages? Some manufacturers are cutting features left and right to deliver cars to clients as soon as possible instead of having half completed cars rotting away in various lots.
Excellent work, M.
Not in this case. As we have seen in other episodes, they will list what is normally a standard feature as a 'credit' on the monronie when they are pulling the Chip bait and switch.
totally off-topic side note, but i like the cool socks you wear often in your episodes!
Thank you, David!
Your reviews are A+
hmm even tough i am not a big fan of the new grill, i think it works pretty good with this one.. and as you said it stands out in the parking lot
I will get one, waitting for 3 months .
Hey Motorman! Unrelated question but was wondering if you are going to drive the Genesis gv70 anytime soon? Been planning to purchase one but want to see what you think. Cheers!
Not planning on it
I like it, but I would need dual electronically-adjusted front seats as standard for the price. 👍
Love this guy!!!
The 4 or 6 Cylinder didn’t need the schnoz for cooling but just to stand out in a parking lot. Yes it looks better in gloss black that matches the trim. Can BMW get you the six to test?
I’ll never get past the grille. Completely unacceptable. I thought I’d get used to it but just can’t.
My parents still have their '72 2002. I grew up a total BMW nut, until '04 when I got my CTS-V(the poor man's M5) and became a Cadillac nut. While both have slid a bit over the past two decades, I have almost no love for BMW anymore. It's sad...
Meanwhile in Europe we see the 420i 😭
Is there no 430i in Europe?
@@GTrike I mean yeah it's there, but the base is 420i.
Nothing wrong with the 420i I got one yesterday and it feels rapid, you have to push it which makes it more engaging to drive!
Why don’t they sell Diesel BMWs in the USA? My 3 series BMW has plenty of passing power and it get 40 to 50 mpg
Because the EPA is corrupt and is completely under the thumb of CARB, which is vehemently anti-diesel. There might be more to it than that, but that's my understanding.
@@LordBass im sure there is more to it than that
That's a good looking Alpha Romero!

I don't understand why BMW ever implemented a 2.0T instead of developing a successor to the N52. Fuel economy on those naturally aspirated 6 cylinders is still great and it would feel a lot more premium. 2.0T should be reserved for front wheel drive "hot" economy cars. 255HP from a turbo 4 does not feel like 255 HP from a naturally aspirated inline 6. The death of the 330i is what killed enthusiasts from looking at BMW as the drivers brand. Honest to god, I prefer a TRD Camry over a modern 330
2.0T will use less fuel than 3,0 - no question about it.
Its also lighter, cheaper to produce and service. Car still does 0-60 in less than 6 sec.
Most of the people who buy this version wont feel the difference.
Usually 4 cylinder engines were the base in BMW, nothing has changed here.
You can still buy inline 6, just like in the good old days.
FWD Toyota is more a car for enthusiasts than a BMW?
To be clear, I love 6 cylinder engines (but Vs) and I am not a fan of BMW.
@@jareknowak8712 That's called a 320i and there's no shame in that. I'll be sticking to the manual transmission naturally aspirated inline 6 engines. The issue is that BMW put a more aggressive tune on a 320i and called it a 328i and 330i for the F30 generation. It's just a shame BMW doesn't make 'em anymore. If BMW called the tuned 320i a 325i and kept a naturally aspirated six cylinder in the line up as the classic 30i series model with a manual transmission option I would have bought one this generation. There's a reason Albert Biermann left after the 1 series. BMW engineers don't have input like they used to. It's all about bean counters appealing to a more ignorant class of buyer.
I think I’m starting to get used to the grill. I can’t believe I’m saying that. I’ve also started thinking I would actually buy a Toyota Prius. I’m tired of this midlife crisis.
B46? Confused.
Gran Coupe 4 cylinder in need of a Dinan chip tune!
very nice car as coupe limousine.
NICE CAR
$57k car with manual seats?? Why isnt the memory seat part of the premium package??
Picked up a 2022 430i gran coupe yesterday and mine has electric seats and memory. I wonder if that one was due to the "chip" shortage.
I love hatchbacks. But 3,800 lbs, 255hp 4 cylinder, and near as makes no difference $60Gs... I'm sure they'll rent out a million of them, but no thanks.
M50 is the best option for this body and performance. Incredible car
B46 or B48?
I was thinking the same thing. Looked it up and apparently the 46 is a more emissions friendly version of the 48. That being said it seems that the b46 the updated 48 and is often just called the 48 most of the time.
Yikes that front grille is an eyesore, good grief!
What ever happened to the straight six? Too much forced induction on a micro 2.0L. It was fine for my 3dr Mitsu Eclipse but on a 3800lb sedan. No thanks.
Get with the times man… Turbo Technology in the Eclipse was developed over 20 years ago.
That 4cyl turbo is plenty, Motoman is spoiled with driving fast cars all the time
2.0L is not a micro.
5.8 sec 0-60 in a base model is not slow by any means.
@@jareknowak8712 Well, we do size differently.....
Displacement matters. Yes, you can push a heavy car around with an overworked small turbo engine. But in the long run, increased heat, pressure and stress will prematurely weaken engine components. Engines should outlast the rest of the car, not fall apart in 60K, or become a service nightmare, like most BMW 's kept beyond warranty (or for the second owner). Planned obsolescence is at work here.
@@wintermagebarthow8481
Yes, in Europe we do size differently.
Turbo engines have been used here for years.
Americans are used to big displacements, due to technical deficiencies and gasoline priced like water.
You think You know something about engines that BMW engineers don't?
You can still buy inline 6, if You want.
When you.gping to stop doing the silly still shots on the test drive? Looks so out of place.
So a new 430i has less cylinders and less power than a 15 year old 330i. That's just sad.
2004 330i has 225hp@5900rpm and 214lb-ft@3500rpm and weights 3285 with the manual (from my 2004 sedan brochure) So the 330i does have a better power to weight ratio 👍🏻
@@steveo85 My dear fellow youtube commentator, the year is 2022, 15 years ago was 2007. A BMW 330i from 2007 has 272hp, or at the very least, 265hp.
@@filip000 Oops math, thx for the gentle correction though cupcake. Still nuts that a na 330 from 18 years ago still has better p to w ratio👊🏻 Apples to apples with the current i6 no comparison and the 4 pot from today easily beats the ones from the last decade. Still, this car deserves more power.
Thats only name code, this one is base model, 330i was not.
Base model in E90 had 122hp (gas) and 116 (diesel).
@@jareknowak8712 Again no, base model is 418d.
57K for manual seats! U want a hatch for 57K? Get an 2017 F type R with less than 30K miles. You get a hatch electric seats and V8! Hahaha
As usual with the German brands, over-priced($57K), under-powered (255hp) 4 cylinders. Throw in this orange color and the hideous grill, No Thanks!
God i hate the gran coupes. Get a 2 door, coward
Same here.
A good car in need of an electric motor (or two)…?
M50 is how it’s done
