    Round of applause to the chainring for surviving to the end of the video 😂

      its always the "just one more" try that gets you. Though I'm glad it *only* got the bike instead of you.
      Sick riding, really using the suspension, and of course making things look easy on that when I wouldnt even get close on my stock xD

      Good job getting your 5010 working again, pity you broke it again?
      Hope will not be an other year before you can ride it again?
      Have been digging in some new lines, that would make a good edit, when you are able to travel?

    “You’re not gonna start hitting that 5010 with a stick, are you?”

    funny timing this vid. The shin-dig podcast just put out a podcast with Martyn Ashton, and he believes that the best way to make trials more mainstream is to do it on more relatable bikes. Nice work like always Ali

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  3 роки тому +6

      I mostly agree with him BUT there’s a few viral videos out there that prove you can still reach a big audience with a modern seatless comp bike

      I'm new to trials and have a Hex. Tried some moves on my Salsa Bucksaw, and they seem much, much more difficult due to the weight and geometry of the bike. Particularly, the seat was really in the way. Do you know any good full suspension mountain bikes that have a really low, out of the way seat when the dropper post is dropped?

    • @judechandler5102
      @judechandler5102 3 роки тому +1

      @@at5504 unfortunately not. Very often women's model bikes, like Giant's Liv lineup have lower seat tubes, but mountain bikes just don't require the flexibility of movement that trials bikes do. I frequently ride trials on my 1994 steel Marin Muirwood, which has geometry not far off a modern road bike. Even with the saddle slammed, there are some moves I simply cannot do because I cant get my body low enough on the bike. Honestly I quite like how that requires imagination to overcome. Have fun on your Hex. Its a superb bike

    • @at5504
      @at5504 3 роки тому +1

      @@judechandler5102 I'll will of course keep goofing around on my Bucksaw, but often figured even a normal 27.5" bike would be easier to handle that my Bucksaw for trials moves. The Hex is awesome. It's hard to want to do anything else, even 7 months into it, it's my favorite bike. Whenever I'm in the market for my next mountain bike, I'm certainly going to look for qualities like ultra-low seat clearance so I can do trail rides and then goof around with trials moves and feel comfortable.

    I had to ditch the vid and come back later. Some of those crash reels are incredible. As much as I admire your riding style and aspire to one day be that controlled and smooth, what Id really like is to have the patience and commitment to try a line that many times in a sitting. Dude, your mind is strong! Respect

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Jude, I like to think most trials riders have the same mindset...we know our ability and that something is achievable and it just takes the right combination of body weight and technique to get it done, walking away from something I know is doable is just the worst!

    That camera angle from the chain stay was sick! I get stoked for u when u complete a line youve been struggling on, watching the vid saying 'come on Ali u got this'! • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks guys! So a full suss dedicated to just trials riding, no compromises to make it good at MTBing too? There's a couple of contenders, the Banshee Spitfire (the 26" version) looks cool, Maybe a Canyon Stitched 720 but honestly the Kingdom Bikes prototype they're testing at the moment looks fantastic...titanium, 80mm rear wheel travel and can be run singlespeed with no tensioner, looks pretty ideal!

In the earlier part it look as the seat wasn’t dropped down, braver than most. The stick in situ bending, I had to something similar with rear dropout hanger on the side of a trail, wasn’t going to walk back. It's not just how insane you can handle every kind of bike, but also how easy you can pull it up like above your hip without any struggle. Is it because of the MX Drinking stuff? 😆 That's sure a dream of a video!

    I tried to order two of the Fabio Wibmer SICKnature series Canyon Torch bikes in small yesterday and sad to learn they only made 80 of them.( No Ali Clarkson sig series available yet) so now I am looking at the Santa Cruz Blur like you have among others but want them in 27.5 's for ripp'n through the tight Canadian single track trails. What size is you frame Ali? Do you find a smaller cockpit more suited for MTB trials or because you are a lanky dude the larger cockpit serves you better? I think the moss was your enemy in todays vid. As you know many mountain bikers purchase trials bikes to improve their MTB abilities, you are about to grow your base yet again is my guess. :-)

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  3 роки тому +1

      a signature bike would be so cool! I'm maybe not as lanky as you think, I'm under 6ft...I'm riding a medium 5010 and that's a great fit for trials and MTBing but if I was purely doing MTB I'd probably go up a size.

    8:22. The tyre pressure though?! So low. Great video by the way!

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  3 роки тому

      just looks softer because all the force is on just a small part of the tyre, I think I was close to 30psi

    I’d love to know what your bike setup was. What tire pressure? Fork setting? Shock locked out? Etc.?

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  3 роки тому

      Tyre pressure was roughly 26-30, no idea on the fork setting sorry, the shock is fully open but with just a little faster rebound... it’s exactly how I run it for normal riding apart from the faster shock rebound

    Hi Ali, bit of a noob question. Do you run high or low pressures when doing trials stuff and does that translate to the Santa Cruz? Are the pressures similar between a full sus endure and your trials bike? Excelent content as always! Cant beleive only 237 like? Oh well, one more from me. Great channel. Excellent work

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  3 роки тому

      I actually run pretty much the same pressures for trials as well as MTB (I did a days MTBing the other day and I didn't adjust the air pressure), I do run the rebound a bit faster in the rear for trials stuff though

  • @JordiMoll

    Every time I watch an all mountain or freeride video I think of you. You would be very good going down a mountain in a mtb without times without haste without a timer. You have the ability to stand as long as you want to jump and to go down real walls. I think you would be very good. It would be interesting to try.

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  3 роки тому

      yeah, I'd love to find somewhere to do stuff like that...I drive past mountains in Scotland that look like they have exactly the right features but when you get closer you realise the drops are bigger and slopes steeper plus the grass inbetween is either boggy or extremely lumpy :(
