Switzerland has some of the most scenic train rides in the world. Crossing forests, tunnels and bridges across the Alps, the Glacier Express is a dream for a lot of people. The magic of this train takes another dimension in winter when all the mountains are covered of fresh snow.

If you think about going on this train: don't fixate on the Glacier Express alone! If you absolutely want to go on the Glacier Express, more power to you, but don't forget that there are regular trains going these routes several times a day and they are much less crowded and you still see the same spectacular landscape!

Yeah but it’s all about the experience, a nice meal and some Swiss wine in the restaurant car. , , good 7 hour journey in a panoramic carriage ! .and the first time we did it (2004 ?) they still had smoking carriages .
Exactly. The train between Martigny and Chamonix, for example, has breathtaking views in winter, like on this video.

It’s a country you’ll hate to leave, but will always go back to....we did, and loved every minute of being there. Superb views. Wonderful food. It’s all there. Ugh, I was supposed to be on that train earlier this year as part of the Oberammergau Passion Play trip....Italy, Switzerland, Austria and then Germany. Due to the pandemic, I’ll have to wait until 2022.

Wonderful video. The arch bridges are so high! Real engineering feat. Tracks are maintained so painstakingly. I hope that some day, I can take a ride in this train. Best compliments from India.
In the UK, an inch of snow shuts down public services as does a heat wave for rail journeys. It is amazing to see Swiss, german, Austrian and other european countries carry on despite far more snow that the whole of the UK

This is awesome. I have ridden the Bermina train from Tirano Italy to St. Moritz Switzerland and people might like it more if you have a fear of heights. It also goes in the mountains. It's much shorter and the Glacier Express is much longer of a ride like maybe 8 hours or so if you go the full distance between St. Moritz and Zermatt in Switzerland. I have heard though the Glacier Express can get very warm inside the train on a sunny day with all the glass during summer. I only saw the Glacier Express train at the St. Moritz train station. The snow makes this trip even better. I was lucky once taking The Canadian train from Vancouver to Jasper in October and there was a snowstorm in the mountains since it was unuually cold that made it special with the snow. I think the French Alps and Switzerland are the prettiest places I have ever seen excpet for perhaps the Canadian Rockies. Thanks for placing this video on UA-cam. From St. Louis

I've been on this train, 1st class and just keep your expectations kind of low if you go. There's maybe a dozen 5s wow scenes over an incredibly long ride (I got on near Zurich and got off at St Moritz, which itself is nothing impressive). A great experience but I'd never spend 6.5h like that again.
Edit: to further explain, there's some mountain tops you can see in the distance, and some waterfalls, the most impressive thing being that bridge in the video but you can't really see it from within the train. The gorge beneath you is cool but it passes within seconds.
The windows are kind of distorted and not entirely clean.
2nd class is horrific, a ton of people who bring on suitcases and huge shopping bags (??) and they tend to oversell the seats (if you're lucky you'll get 1st class upgrade). In 1st class there isn't total silence like in some trains, we had a very small baby which cried its lungs out.

@@jonasgmunder7214 I never commented on peak season, during winter. In other 3 seasons it's just a nice lake with a shit ton of buildings surrounding it.

Lucky you..in some country in Asia, people ride on top of the train and some got eloctrocuted, fall from train and got molested by different or same sex gender in coach.

I had ever visited Switzerland 2 times and had change to travel with Glazier express that very good time and good memory. Hope I can come back Switzerland again and I’m planning to visit England again. England is also very classic and beautiful places such as Cotswolds Bibury London and etc.

Beautiful place to be anytime of year. But the dead of Winter is maybe the best.
Getting to the place you are going! To step into the cabin just off the main trail. The wood fire burning in the chimney, just as the Sun starts to set. Dusk has come in this fleeting moment, the Moonlight glimmering off the fresh snow fall. You step onto your porch open the door, the doggies are there to greet you as they always have. And that furball in the livingroom sitting atop the couch.Your Wife/Husband is waiting for you with a hot cup of cider, coffee or tea.
And asks "How was your day? Did you get all the gifts for the kids? As you walk in with four or five bags worth of presents. All wrapped so delicately beautifully. As you set your precious cargo down and go to stoke the fire. You walk by him/her give a gentle hug, whisper in the ear, a soft peck on the cheek, a look that says I Love You on your face. As you count the many blessings in your life. And think about the less fortunate here at home and abroad. You say a silent pray for those souls that are lost, and to the ones defending us here at home and abroad. To the ones who have made the sacrifice for their own families. In a quiet whisper " Thank You. All I ask is that you continue to watch over your children dear Father. Hold them close to your bosom, as we would hold our own children close to ours."

How often does the train cross the same bridge?
Every second of this video was pure magic for me.
There are more trains likes this in Switzerland, don't fixate on the big names. And they are priced normally. Some of them are used by local work commuters, it's always cool to see them with their noses in their newspapers or books (or asleep) while the breathtaking scenery is passing by the windows :-)
