  • Continuing to saw away at the 10 foot, 26 inch diameter Doug fir log that we obtained at an urban logging project. Loading it onto the new ramps onto the log bunk, then getting it flipped once on the sawbed, these were challenges. Especially when I, the old man, was working alone in the hot Oregon summer. Looks like we will get 50 + 2x4s plus a number of 2x6s and 4x4s. Destined for the new "expensive" chicken shed!

Have you considered putting a power feed set up on your mill?
I have the 126 and I know how it gets trying to push through bigger logs.
Mike Festiva has a really good video about it that might give you some good ideas. Anyway good luck and happy milling

Thanks for the comment. No I haven't considered a power feed. I haven't had an issue with this yet. Sure it might take a little more effort sometimes, but hasn't been a problem. I really would like a fully hydraulic mill, but that is outside the budget (unless I was going to start milling full time and for a profit). Thanks again for your comment!

I call you PawPaw because we don’t know your name. And as I am 81 everybody calls me the same.
It looks like woodland mills have a log wench that will work turning logs. When I get mine I will also get wench because I don’t have tractor. I am presently rewatching some of your videos. Keep up the great work.

Paw Paw is good! Of course I think of myself as 21 years old! I know that Wm has the winch system that goes in a log stop sleeve, but I am leery of that as it might put too much torque on the sawmill bed. But many say it works for them.

nice job. i will try to rig up a log turner like yours. the last time i looked at lowes the 2 by 4 8 feet long were $6.64 and they were not the good ones. i have not got any lumber from lowes in over a year like you i am sawing my own much better lumber. but i still have to buy screws, nails and metal roofing and that has went way up too. take care, be safe and well.

I bot some 2x6s back in November and they weren't too bad then, but went back up later. I guess that the metal roofing has really gone through the roof (was that a pun?). Well I am going to need some, so I will call for a refinance on the house!
