As a Scotch drinker I approve this message, great work. I would also recommend Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban and Talisker Storm. The former is Port finished but carries a terrific richness that bourbon folks will appreciate, and the latter is pure salted caramel over a campfire.
The Balvenie was the first scotch I ever bought. It took me a while to get used to malts as a whole, but once I did I realized how delicious that bottle is! Now sherried malts and Islays are quickly taking up real estate in my whiskey cabinet
As a bourbon drinker, it's taken me some time to get used to the fruit tastes in scotch Unfortunately a favorite Scotch of mine was a limited run by JW back in 2015: Select Cask Rye Finish. At $45 it was a steal. Runners up are Balvenie Sweet Toast of American Oak, and Glenlivet illicit still. 86 proof seems to be my floor on Irish and Scotch for them to not be underwhelming against the bourbon palette. Cheers, and thanks for the recommends
Finally a video dedicated to my whiskey of choice! I can recommend a ton of good ones, but not from the perspective of a bourbon lover. Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures into scotch!
I'd also recommend Arran Bodega or Bothy (both are higher abv), Bladnoch, and Glendronach (18 & 21 is amazing, but the 12 may be better for a bourbonite converting to scotch).
I really really enjoy monkey shoulder personally and is a great intro to scotch as well, but it's not necessarily sweet like a bourbon. To me it's just kind of an nice mellow easy scotch
Give Glen Moray a try, I had it when we were in Scotland and I brought home a bottle. My wife tried for a year to find it here where we live and could not get it, we recently found the 12 year in a store near us. It's from the Speyside region, I really like this Scotch, try it and see what you think.
Aberlour abundah! Sooo good. I like glendronach 12 over the McAllen 12... JMHO, but im usually a bourbon guy too. In hell we'll all be in good company!
Mr Row, I am with you in liking rum and bourbon. I even like to sip cognac and some Canadian whisky but, I have tried uncountable time with several brands, I do not like scotch. I think it is the high malt and pear flavors that throw me. I currently have a bottle of Chivas Royal Salute and a JW Ghost and Rare that were gifted to me and they are unopened because I cant get into scotch. But I still enjoy your videos.
Only problem i have with scotch is that they are mostly bottled at so lower proof except those cask strength version. Most of them are bottled at bare legal 80proof and only few are bottled at 86-92 proof. And we all know that lowering the proof adding more water takes the flavours away. whereas most bourbons are bottled at 86-100 proof and are findable and affordable. As we know straight bourbon are aged at least 2 years and scotch 3 years no matter the age i would still drink more bourbon than scotch bcoz i’m getting more flavour in 86-100 proof bourbon than that watered down 80 proof scotch. My recommendation : Buffalo trace 90 proof, evan william BIB white label 100 proof, wild turkey 101proof , knob creek 9 yr 100 proof, eagle rare 10 yr 90proof, elijah craig small batch 94 proof, maker mark 46, 4roses small batch, jack daniel bottled in bond, pikesville rye 100 proof, wild turkey and knob creek rye 100 proof, old grand dad bottled in bond. All these are findable affordable n delicious. Cheers🥃
tried scotch a few times, might have picked bad each time but I swear it tasted like a wheat grass smoothie,I hated it.i am older now maybe I'll try again.
Nicolas, I totally hear you… However, there is a point in collecting bourbon where it gets really expensive and a $70 14 yr scotch looks pretty intriguing instead of a 6 year bookers for $90
So. I prefer Scotch to Bourbon. I still love bourbon, but I have asked 2 other whiskeyTubers to do the reverse of this video. Come throoooough for meh!!

Absolutely agree on the Talisker, maybe think about Lagevullen though this has perhaps even a bit more "sea" taste than the Talisker.

Also Bunnahabhain 12, Glen Scotia 15 and Ardbeg Uigeadail.

As primarily a bourbon drinker…I highly recommend Aberfeldy 12yr and Glenfarcles. Amazing scotches

Can't go wrong with the Arran 10 yr, definitely close to a bourbon flavour profile
100 percent agree on the Glenfiddich 14yr bourbon barrel great intro. Also you should try Monkey shoulder too.

Love the balvenie! Glendronach 12 is also a nice scotch to try. Great list!🥃

A friend gifted me the Glenmorangie 10 year and for a bourbon guy, this is a very pleasant surprise and very drinkable.
Awesome list David!!!
I've had 3 of the 5 and they are delicious! Thanks for all you do!
Give Highland Park Cask strength a try. Fruity, floral and vanilla. As someone who loves high proof bourbons, this stands up.
Cool video. I started in Scotch and incorporated bourbon. All good bottles
For a barrel proof bourbon fan, I always recommend Benromach Cask Strength Vintage 2009 Bottled 2020. This is close to the older EC PB.
Hey there. Good to see another Dead South fan out there!

I totally understand what you're saying. I'm that way with tequila. I don't care how nice or expensive or special or palatable, I just don't like it
@@WhiskeyRow do a blind video with a rum line up. I would like to see a 12 rum blind tasting.
Bravo David! Great research and presentation. Cheers 🍻
Great review. I've tried three of the five and will now look for the other two to try. And whistling the Dead South is awesome!!
If I could use that song as my music for whiskey row I would totally do it

Yes, the lower proof can't be frustrating at times. I still really enjoy them and get really excited when I can find one at a higher proof
I really like Auchetoshan American Oak - super vanilla sweet and lovely. Bendromach 10 is another I'd suggest.
I would DEFINITELY add in the Dalmore line. Amazing bottles out there. The 12 Sherry cask and the 15 is my go too.
I've always passed on them because of their high priced compared to other lines. I'll have to snag one though
@@WhiskeyRow trust me David
The macallan 12 year double cask is very good. I got it as a gift a while back and the bottle was gone before I knew it.
Yes, I think it's a tremendous bottle of scotch!
Deanstom 12 would be a good starter
Although not Scotch, Balcones Single Malt is a good transition from bourbon to malts/Scotch.
Yes, I do think that some of the American single malts are good transition as well… That's a great video idea LOL
I'm trying to like Scotch, I really am 😆
I had a sample of The Glenlivet 12 Double Oaked last night - just not digging it yet.
Maybe try some Jim Beam double oak to ease into the scotch?
@@MooseTracker100 That's not a horrible idea 🥃
tried scotch a few times, might have picked bad each time but I swear it tasted like a wheat grass smoothie,I hated it.i am older now maybe I'll try again.
You should give Edradour 10 a try.
Woo
I already can’t afford my bourbon hobby, so I definitely can’t add a scotch hobby on top of that!! But thanks for the video anyway - always enjoyable!
Nicolas, I totally hear you… However, there is a point in collecting bourbon where it gets really expensive and a $70 14 yr scotch looks pretty intriguing instead of a 6 year bookers for $90
Try Monkey Shoulder. It's a fantastic blend of single-malt Scotches from some of the best Speyside distilleries. An absolute steal for $30 - $35.
Do I get a prize since I’m the first to call out the whistle song? In hell I’ll be in good company lol
No, but glad some people are catching it!!!
In hell caught me off balance thought I imagined it and had to do a retake. Just saw them last week in the caverns.
I so hoped someone would catch the tune. I LOVE that song!
Sorry my picture with the band did not load
You're missing the boat by not including Bunnahabhain 12
Love love the glendiddich 14 yr old
Glenfiddich!! Dang it
So. I prefer Scotch to Bourbon. I still love bourbon, but I have asked 2 other whiskeyTubers to do the reverse of this video. Come throoooough for meh!!
Awesome video per usual! Hope you got my email in regards to the raffle. Cheers!
Yes, got yours and should be responding to emails later tonight!
Just tried to pick up a Glenlivet Nadurra and someone beat me to it =(
In Hell I'll be in good company ! Great list David 🥃
Kk
Why ? There is more bourbon to try.
