I think the life hack I've learned from watching this and other whisky-tube channels is that if I want to score rare bottles, I need to start a youtube channel.
My 5 are... Mixer = Evan Williams Black Label, Daily = WT 101, Friday night pour = Bell Meade Reserve, Impress the Guest = New Riff single barrel, & Special occasion = Blanton's
I agree with the list except the EW. Not a fan but I get it. New Riff really surprised me when I tried it and I think it is an impress your guest bottle. Snagged a bottle because it was just so good.
5 bottles: Daily Drinker - Buffalo Trace; Impress Your Guests - McKenna 10; Mixer - OGD 114; Friday Night - OF 1920; Special - WLW 2020 (Cracked it open after the Natty. Go Dawgs!)
Daily- Woodford DO Mixer- WT 101 Impress your guest- Calumet 15 ( most guests only care about the look of the bottle) Friday Night- KC 9 year 120 Woodford DO 50/50 mix. Trust me lol Special occasion- EHTBP
Great Video and loved the comparison to last year. Mine are Mixer - Wild Turkey 101 Daily - Rare Breed Friday Night - EH Taylor Impress The Guest - Any Old Fitz Decanter Special Occasion - Old Carter Single Barrel #24
Great redo. I’ve changed mine as well over the past year. Daily: Four Roses single barrel/ Old Forester 1920 Mixer: Eagle Rare Friday night: 1792 Full proof Impress a friend: Remus Repeal V Special occasion: Weller 12 yr
I’m surprised you would choose Eagle Rare as a mixer with it being so hard to get ahold of, I have half a bottle and don’t really want to use it for mixing
As long as I can get my hands on Wild Turkey 101 and Old Forester 1920, I'm happy. I like trying new bourbons and whiskeys but I seem to fall back on these two more than any others.
My daily go to used to be Larceny. Still enjoy it. It is a easy sipper, but I started my collection a year ago or so....lately I am starting to enjoy the higher proof stuff...100 and higher....
I'm in a position where I've had a bunch of different brands and I don't drink daily, maybe 2-3 a week, so when I sit down with a pour I want something great. Now I'm running into the situation about not spending more money on a bottle that is not great. Sagamore Spirits is super delivering.
It would be helpful to have a list of the ones you discussed in the description and/or links. Some of these I found difficult to look up and I found myself squinting at the bottle in the video to see if I can tell from the label if I got it right.
Mixer - OGD BiB or Wheel House 101 (OF100 has become hard to find in NY), surprise guests with Maker's 46 - show them what they've been missing compared with the flagship swill (cask 46 if they can handle it). Russel's Private Barrel Select and OF 1920 for Friday night. MM FAE01 and 02 for special.
Daily: four roses single barrel Mixer: old Forester 100 Friday night: Russell Reserve 10 or Rare Breed Impress a friend: Rowan’s Creek Special occasion: Kentucky Owl
I would agree with Russell's 10yr as a daily. I love the idea of OF 100pf as a mixer.. My 'wow guests' bottle is a Maker's Private Select store pick from Justin's World of Bourbon in Louisville. My 'Friday Unwind' pour is Knob Creek Barrel Proof. For a celebration currently I would pour my JD SB BP. I know my list is not that dynamic, but I am just trying to keep my selection rolling. Also dead set on avoiding secondary market purchases
Great video to illustrate the evolution of the pallette in bourbon. And how you don't know what you don't know. There's so many great pours out there and if you haven't had one, the list could change daily, and of course, person to person. Find your list, and let it evolve and change as your bourbon world grows. As David says Find a bottle you love Or several
Everyday Pour - Eagle Rare 10 year, Impress/Show Off - Knob Creek 12 year, Good Mixer - Wild Turkey 101 (doubles as a standalone!), Uncommon/Special - Stagg Barrel Proof (Alt. Blanton's Straight From The Barrel) & Rare/Special Occasion - Eagle Rare 17 Year BTAC (Alt. Michter's Single Barrel 10 year 😉).
I like your channel. I took one of your tips and asked my liquor store about some of the brands I have been trying to get. He told me what days to swing by during lunch, So I was able to score some Weller Reserve, Russell 10 and Rare Bred by being there on the delivery days. Thanks for the tips.
Great video - I'm approaching a year in bourbon and it's interesting to look back and see how my palate is changing and evolving. I'm still loving my Remus V as my most special bourbon so far.
@@whiskeybonded It's the first Remus I've ever had and it's amazing. I live in Hendersonville NC but I have a hookup 30 minutes away and I got 3 bottles, all below MSRP ($79.99) 😊
I like the video, and the topic. I don't have enough whiskey to fill in the last two categories, but right now Lost Monarch is my daily sipper and Rare Breed would be my Friday night pour; partially because it is getting harder and harder to find.
Nice list, much more solid reasoning than last years list. I'm probably going to use WT101 or EW BiB for a mixer just because they are available in handles so the price is ridiculous. For the special occasion bottle, I got a taste of Michters 20 yr at a tasting over Christmas. OMG, probably never get a bottle, even MSRP is $1,700, but that is now my gold standard. I even got a second pour to take outside with a cigar. OMG.
Daily Sipper-Coopers' Craft Barrel Reserve Mixer -Old Forester 100 Friday Night Pour -Eagle Rare Impress Your Guests -Colonel Taylor Small Batch Special Occasion-Wild Turkey 17 Year Old BiB
Nice, I’d pop the 101 into the mixer category, it’s a good daily as well. I can easily get a 1.75 for about $31. Nice list! I still need to try Rus 10z
Great video. Food for thought: bourbon is just brown stuff in a glass bottle. Enjoy your Stagg, share it, celebrate it. We never know how long we got brother. Cheers
Just found your channel and am loving the content. I have already subscribed. For us Bourbon novices would it be possible to list the Bourbons your talking about on the video in the description? Keep up the great content.
I don't do mixed drinks, so not sure what I have that would be good for that category. Possibly Bradshaw since that is the worst sipper I have. Daily drinker-Knob Creek, impress a guest-Elijah Craig Barrel Proof C920, Friday night-Bardstown, special occasion-Bookers. I only own 7 bottles of bourbon, so it's not much of a selection to choose from.
I really need to find me most of these. Most of these I never heard of and I thought bourbon was my favorite alcohol. I need to change my habits. Lol. I’m glad I found this channel though. Time to binge watch. I would have some old forester but it’s 1:30 am at the time of writing this.
For my Favorite 5. Buffalo Trace always gets in the house. Detroit City Distillery Butchers Cut, Jim Beam Single Barrel, Whistle Pig Piggyback and Larceny.
I've yet to figure out the hype on eht small batch, I'm optimistic on most bourbons but it's just okay to me. I think it's worth 43 bucks, but not 80-90 on secondary. To each their own. 🥃🥃
@@rickramirez4894 for that price range and availability, I'd find one of the better ECBP batches in place of eht sb, also a good back up if you can't find a JDBP.
I appreciate that you revisited your list. Though I did like your first list, I must say that I like this list even more. I agree with another person's comment that WT 101 fits in the mixer category very well too, alongside OF 100, but both are great neat and mixed in my opinion. Keep the great content coming.
I totally get the fear of drinking down one of those bottles that was so hard to come by. We need to start a club where we meet on occasion with our rare bottles and share samples with each other!
I like you and your videos :) I would suggest that you get a close up of the bottles your are talking about because sometimes there are different batches and years of one brand that really look the same and I want to be sure to get the right bottle. Or leave the specific information in the description.
Love the Russell's 10 but around Northern Detroit area it's more around $55-$60 a bottle where Wild Turkey is under $25. The normal Remus is a GREAT bottle. At just under $40 it's an easy sipper
Hey Dave - I'm from MD so we're neighbors. Having been trying for months to find the Remus Repeal and can't seem to get lucky. Could go to DC and pay 3x MSRP but would like to find one more affordable. Where were you able to find them? Would love to get one if you have a spare or could stop by one of these days for a pour. Love the videos - thanks for sharing.
I've seen you mention the JTS Brown, before...but never seen that in this state. Every other pick I am totally down with (although haven't landed any WT BiB, Michter's 10 or Remus Repeal yet), ESPECIALLY the Old Forester as a mixer. I love it & my wife likes it a LOT in drinks (and said it's one of the few bourbons she can stand). I'd even go so far as to say that I'd add their Rye 100 as a mixer alternative. They are BOTH so good! Looking forward to this year's hunt...picks this year have been that OF 100 Rye, a Rebel Distiller's Collection, Mortlach 15 year & Cardhu Gold Reserve Single Malt Scotches (Game Of Thrones releases😋, because I'm a nerd, and I STILL love my European/Japanese Whiskies.)
Hey brother! Getting into bourbon recently and you've been exponentially helpful in my journey. Started with Woodford Reserve, it was excellent, moved to Bulleit, not my absolute favorite but it was good, then Larceny Small Batch it was a trial bottle maybe 2oz but it was not impressing me much. I then landed on this video and picked up good old WT for a mixer and after much searching a bottle of RR10. They are both excellent and RR10 is now my favorite. I have a quick question a while back you did a WT blind with 5 different Russell's offerings and you didn't seem to like RR10 at all and even guessed it would make 5th place. From the time between then and now what's caused the change from it being you least favorite in the blind 5 to now it being your daily?
If I could find it Eagle Rare 10 yr would be in at least 2 spots on my list. As is I love Rare Breed and Russell's Reserve single barrel 10 yr at 110 proof. Stagg jr was the bomb and would be my impress if only I could find another. Loved every drop of the one I got.
Great revisit! Wondering if you are into Cognac at all? I've noticed there's really not alot of people doing much on it. Personally I find it a really nice and different addition to my home bar. Cheers!
@@kiotsukeray Hey Ray, It's hard to say because there's so many and everyone has there own taste. I would suggest investing in three types of bottles to start seeing what you like. David, great video. Keep up the great work. I laughed tho..u pulled out the Taylor Straight Rye instead of the Small batch. Lol. Not a biggie just made me giggle.
Just found you. Like the expressions. Have you ever tried a old weller 107 proof bottled in 1972. Gold vein bottle. It was given to me open from a friends estate. Amazing smoothness.
I love JTS Brown. I used to have a dozen bottles, but the stuff is about as rare as hens teeth anymore. Now I'm nursing my last two bottles wishing I had treated it a little more special.
Nice update. Taste definitely develops over time (and so do options in your collection)! I've been putting together my own list/video for this and have found it such a great exercise in thinking about all the dimensions of whiskey.
My understanding of JTS Brown is that it was only available in Kentucky. On a recent trip to Kentucky, I visited Heaven Hill and they had plenty of bottles in their distillery shop.
I Definitely agree with having a russell's in there. But, e.h. taylor small batch has been a big miss for me. One time it was awful, two other bottles were decent, and one was good. But, definitely not great. But, if you can find it for 40 its probably worth a try.
It seems like you have a lot of open bottles. How long do you think an open bottle lasts until it “goes bad”? How long would you say a special occasion bottle last after being opened?
Thanks for sharing! I Love the Russell's 10, old Forester, and EHT. 👍 I'm so glad you didn't say Weller though. That stuff is adequate. Not a fan of makers either. It tastes like wet musty wood to me. I guess I'm not a wheated guy. I'd say Buffalo Trace and Russell's 10 are my go-to's. Anyway, thanks for your updated preferences! Take care.
Instead of Russel 10, would go with Russell’s Reserve. For mixer, that’s where I’d go with WT101, perfect proof & spice for mixer. Otherwise great choices.
J.T.S. Brown Kentuck only. Sorry, a bit out of my neighborhood. However, having said that, not surprised you can find reasonably priced "good" sippin' whiskey in Kentucky. If only I was there!
I have a bottle of Russell 10 yr and it’s not for me. Maybe I got a bad bottle but for 90 proof it taste like pure alcohol. At 116.8 the Rare Breed is so much smoother and flavorful
Hi I started out with crown royal only cause that’s what was available at our family get together Than went to devils cut, to builet Now that I work at a liquor store and I’m 32 years old What’s on my shelf now is Eagle rare (2 bottles) Wellers special reserve (2 bottles) Buffalo Trace And a Prideful Goat 6 year unfiltered Straight Rye

Nice update. Taste definitely develops over time (and so do options in your collection)! I've been putting together my own list/video for this and have found it such a great exercise in thinking about all the dimensions of whiskey.
Green label McKenna bottled in Bond..... harder to find now...but gotta be in the 5 faves.
Is it legal to resell whisky? I have a bottle of George T Stagg 2018 release. After seeing prices I hate to drink it
My understanding of JTS Brown is that it was only available in Kentucky.
Great follow up, and I too feel like you on the GTS...
Daily Drinker: Russel’s Reserve Single Barrel Picks
Mixer: Buffalo Trace
Impress Guests: Westland Cask #5700
Friday Night Pour: Wild Turkey Master’s Keep: One
Special Occasion: Russel’s Reserve 13-year-old
I see a bottle of Hill Rock on the top right! Which one is it? I have "Wanna share a cab" on my bar.
daily drinker is 1792 small batch. something special is garrison brothers single barrel.
Have you ever done any reviews of the bourbons and whiskeys of the West? Smoke Wagon and Red Empire specifically?
this guy is such a persuasive bourbon saleman, I almost condidered buying a bottle of Wild Trukey or Old Grand Day. I gave up boubon 30 yrs ago.
I wanna know where in NC you found that EH Taylor. I can never find it here anywhere. And I go to the stores enough to frequently find Buffaloe trace
It seems like you have a lot of open bottles. How long do you think an open bottle lasts until it “goes bad”?
How long would you say a special occasion bottle last after being opened?
Way to be honest with yourself and your audience 👏

Blue label Heaven Hill BiB is just fine for mixing, stands up straight also, to my taste.
Take care.
Old Forester 100 is amazing straight or mixed
I don't understand wanting muted whiskey ... don't want that cheap burn but a good spicy whiskey is what I'm after
Instead of Russel 10, would go with Russell’s Reserve. For mixer, that’s where I’d go with WT101, perfect proof & spice for mixer. Otherwise great choices.
I love the Russell single barrel, my favorite so far. Still drink the WT101, just not as often
J.T.S. Brown Kentuck only. Sorry, a bit out of my neighborhood. However, having said that, not surprised you can find reasonably priced "good" sippin' whiskey in Kentucky. If only I was there!
Odd that you have not mentioned Makers Mark for the price. A favorite.
Here in Australia EH Taylor Small Batch will set you back $250 - $300 (USD$180 -$215) if you can even find it.
I have a bottle of Russell 10 yr and it’s not for me. Maybe I got a bad bottle but for 90 proof it taste like pure alcohol. At 116.8 the Rare Breed is so much smoother and flavorful
I didn't know JTS Brown was so rare...my local store has loads and I have been using it as my go to Old Fashioned on the regular!
I wish eh Taylor was 40 here (320$) not a fan of the russells 10yr but taste buds do change I'll grab another bottle 👍👍
Hi
I started out with crown royal only cause that’s what was available at our family get together
Than went to devils cut, to builet
Now that I work at a liquor store and I’m 32 years old
What’s on my shelf now is
Eagle rare (2 bottles)
Wellers special reserve (2 bottles)
Buffalo Trace
And a Prideful Goat 6 year unfiltered Straight Rye
Gonna just call it 10 Bourbons to have 😂🥃 Cheers
JTS Brown is really good. Not good for the price, but good. I had my doubts lol. My empty bottle is in the trash, smashed.
