It would be nice if Title would say what State this is, and if it's northern, southern, eastern, or western part. That helps new morel hunters in other states an idea of when they need to look. Also, a nice tree identification close up of bark, leaves might be helpful. Other thing that may help is identifying some ground cover plants. Thanks.
I'm south of the eastern part of west half just a little north of their. When you get their look for morels. The bark is like a Labrador. Good ground cover is usually a big tarp.
The Leaf cover under sycamore trees is so thick it is almost impossible to see a small morel so the morels tend to be bigger when found under the Sycamore lesf cover
There you go Johnny! First robin of spring in the yard here yesterday. SW WI. Winter didn't bring a foot of snow total. We're in trouble. Good seein ya' gettin that gold!
I love it when you see a big bonanza of Morel Mushrooms.. when you see them faster than you can pick them.. when you see so many that you start losing track of all the shrooms you've seen.. you just can't pick them fast enough. There's no better adrenaline rush!!! 😊
Well, look at you go I was out this morning myself. Our ground is absolutely warm. And we've had plenty of rain but there's nothing there yet any day now
Man I cannot wait for the morels to come up here in Southern Ontario Canada ! Usually it's the last week of April until the end of may, but I've heard that they are up to 3 weeks early in some areas. Morel progression maps have some small ones being found not too far south of Lake Erie already!! Hopefully we have another good year- last year was amazing here! Our Hauls don't compare with the ones you get down South though!! How are things going for you so far?? Early??
Their is no bad way. For me, any good mushroom intensifies whatever meal it's prepared with. It absorbs any seasonings or sauces you create like a sponge and magically doubles the flavor. A Morel Mushroom......it's the magician that all others Wana be.
Oh man.... I went out to my grove today only to find the land owner actively bulldozing it under. The oaks are still there but he bulldozed clear up to their bases. I almost cried. I'm hoping that he didn't harm the mycelium and we will get active blooms maybe next year.
@@johnnyfish6051 The ones I started growing in august are the size of large peas to small grapes. Preferred the coco peat mix over the wood pellets. Kept at room temp, got one bag outside and a bunch of inoculated apples in the garage that I'll need to see what happened once it warms up in the next couple weeks. Still frozen up here in Alberta.
@@johnnyfish6051 we'll see what happens, might take a few years. I'm gonna take some liquid culture and put it in the bucket I use for the sprinkler fert this spring and just put some everywhere lol.
to piggyback your theory, when mycelium breaks (from younger tree growth) and then rejoins at junctions, it produces hyphal knotting and that induces pinning, hence new mushroom growth
@@johnnyfish6051oh, its just something I know from cultivating a lot of mushroom. anyone that says they know exactly why morels grow and where is sorta full of it but, in general, mycelium typically works the same in regards to how it pins. nice video btw
Do you believe there is a daytime and nighttime temperature when it's time to go look for morels? What daytime temperatures and nighttime temperatures that come together is the good time to look for morels?
Night time Temps are key. When night time temp start consistently staying in the low 50's. When soil temp is in the low 50,s for three or four days straight, just after sun rise. The number one guaranteed way to know if morels are up ...Apple tress are in bloom... GUARANTEED!!!
@johnnyfish6051 thank you for that info...this is one thing I've never done but I'm thinking bout getting into it...everyone up here around me in Missouri does it...better late than never I guess...we also have paw paws up here...I'd never heard of them until I found a tree last year with fruits I'd never seen or maybe just never noticed before and looked em up. Do they grow in your neck of the woods? They are actually delicious...like top 3 favorite fruit now
They are a self shedding tree and constantly repairing themselves. So the same thing is probably happening underground with their roots also. Like I say, this is causing chaos to the mycelium and making morels fruit. The great thing is that this happens while the tree is alive and will produce for the life of the tree. Unlike Elms and Coniferous trees that only provide Morels when their dead or dying. They might produce 3 years tops. Sycamore go for a lifetime, and yes, all that bark peel adds to the duff.
The one question you never ask a morel hunter 😂 my own momma asked me the other day where I find mine and I said momma I love you so much , but uhhhh no! I'll put my location in my will... when you told em in the sticks I was thinking that was too much info 😉
@monicasgeorgia 🤣 OK, let me refraze that. I was trying to figure out what state and what part as me and my brother are planning a trip from missouri south this week lol.
So, we don't eat mushrooms, we moved here to Missouri from North Carolina, and have noticed a large amount of people hunting for this moral muchroom why?😊 inquiring minds want to know!🎉
You can’t even answer what state? I love and appreciate your videos and information, but at least give us a region so we know what to expect as far as temps in our area vs yours.
