    I'm really curious about cottenwood morel growth, as I have one that was intentionally planted in my back yard over 20 years ago... I'm thinking that I could maybe put a large mulch bed around it, maybe outline it with black jack, and not mow it, and suppress the grass growth, & mulch it with very old sawdust... Might have to seed it with some wild found morel's to get it started... And to top it off... I have a asparagus patch about 30 feet away from the cottonwood... I'll bet the feeder roots from the cottonwood are getting close to that patch... and since I mulch the asparagus patch.... I think I'm about to strike gold.... Your thoughts?

    It's a cultural thing. Some salad eating cultures (like the f-ing vegans) eat their mushrooms raw and that's why they get sick. But we cook our food for a reason. Raw food contains parasites and toxins. Heat destroys parasites and most toxins even in pokeweed. And that's another southern favorite. You'll survive. Because the south invented deep frying in LARD. We didn't use plant based oils and polyunsaturated fats for frying. We the people survived on animal fat. Even the Native American Indians survived on pemmican and that is stuff is surrounded in rendered animal fat. It's the unsaturated "heart healthy" vegetable seed oils that become toxic in high heat and form plastics or cancer causing free radicals. People did not get heart disease until we started fluoridating/chlorinating our water. This was also about the same time the fast food industry started using cottonseed oil in their deep fryers at the suggestions of the medical establishment. Here's the deal. Even if you eat a regular morel raw, you can get sick. Just like cooking the pokeweed leaves, Kill the toxins with high heat. We fry our morels in oil at high heat till their golden brown. Then we add the butter for flavor. Don't fry your mushrooms in regular unclarified butter because the milk solids burn and you wont destroy the toxins at the temp butter burns. You can get away with Clarified butter {aka Ghee} because it can handle higher heat and you are less temped to eat the mushrooms undercooked.

    I believe if you do a bit more research you will find you have a Merc 30/20 Jet. You loose about 1/3 of your rating from prop to jet. I had a 60/45 Jet a few years ago and IME it was a bit over rated as a Jet. Should have been called a 60/40 as they are now. Now that the industry has gone to 4-strokes the power/weight ratio is worse than it was with 2-strokes and they don't even make the 20 Jet anymore. For anyone wanting to make their own from parts look for the 30HP 2-stroke or better yet a 35HP 2-stroke which will give you about a 25 Jet.

    • @johnnyfish6051
      @johnnyfish6051 Місяць тому

      25/20 , like anything else, you can swap alot of things, If you can do a little fab work. I've seen some funky homemade adapter plates.

    You can do the same with a sprayer. You said you can not grow your own but then why do this ? Collect the morels in a bucket. Then add just water to clean them off. Use that spore filled water in s sprayer. Now spray the area you want. This works. Give it year or 2. Some places the 3rd year was best. I have started telling people last few years. It is something that can help.

    If you're going to eat them, why not boil it first? It seems that these must not contain a lot of gyromitra, but boiling them apparently pulls out gyromitra so why not pull out as much as you can.

      @@johnnyfish6051 crazy hey? It can be so variable with morels. Couple years ago I barely got any, last year was quite good. This year the season started pretty early but nothing much came up for a while. First couple on April 10th and then nothing. Then I started getting some around April 20th. I'm at about 32 lb so far. My best year yet. I think I'm at about 1150 so far. Normally we get morels here until the end of may, but it looks like things are starting to wrap up already. My late spots are looking like they're not too far from being done and I still have a lot of spots yet to check. Hopefully I'll have enough time to get to them. It's been weird though. My best producing spots from last year barely produced anything or the deer ate them all, whereas last year almost none of them were eaten. Last year it was all about the apples, this year I think I've gotten more from spruce! It seems like every four or five years we get a really good flush on Spruce trees. We've had a ton of rain and I was hoping for a second flush, but it's not looking like it. Wish you all the best keep up the great content brother.

      @joet81 Mother nature is in control. Yeah, they move around ( not literally). This year, I found a few under river maple and black willow. Wich realy produce my biggest hauls when things are right. That hasn't happened since I started filming. Still have a few things nobody's seen yet. This year's content was pretty weak, so I'm holding a few vids back I was going to play this season for next year. Sounds like you had a fine season. Goodluck! And thank you!

      There are approximately 16 different species of morels. The species I have are the "common white morel, also known as Morchella americana ( no black morels where I live). Burns do not help this species or certainty doesn't stimulate them to grow. If it's a hot burn it will be three to five years before I see morels in numbers there again. Yes, some species will ONLY grow after a burn. Confusing, eh! Yes, disturbances are good for morel production. I my case it's flood scaring. Wind damage to trees, ect. But not burns.

    • @johnnyfish6051
      @johnnyfish6051 2 місяці тому

      Yes field to bag, no rinsing or bath/ soak, store them dry, no paper towel needed, Open and closed, this is the key! Open the bag when they feel moist close the bag when they feel dry. Never rinse or soak until the day you cook them.

      A couple days after they pop, I can tell if it's going to be a year to sell some or not. Once I round up 20 lbs it's time to start selling. It doesn't happen every year, as you know. This vid was recorded in 2023 in which I rounded up 170lbs. In 3 weeks. Years like that, yes, I'm selling it's a ridiculous amount of money I'm not going to pass up. Trust me, I've given away more Morels than most life-long morel hunters will ever see.

      Thanks. You wouldn't believe the time and effort it takes to make a UA-cam video like this. Let alone the years of knowledge and passion I'm passing on to all. The morel season is only so long even after a lifetime of hunting morels you can only know so much. If you really think about it, if a guy's lucky enough to hunt morels for say....40 years maybe only 30 of those years are actually productive years. Meaning some years it doesn't rain enough in your area to produce many morels. It happens! Every 4 or 5 years, I barely find enough to make one meal. So...call it thirty years. 30 years times (x) 3 Saturdays hunt morels for 6 hours 30 × 3 × 6 = 540 hours. What can you become good at or an expert at after only practicing it for 540 hours ?? Your job, a sport , spouse, mowing your grass, monopoly, picking your nose?.... No, NOTHING, 540 HOURS you can't become the master of anything. The season is short, and morels pay well. Thanks for what you do, Nate! See ya.

      I hope you understand this methods purpose is not to artificially produce mycelium?

      Look guys, I'm not trying to troll your post...just do some research on morel production, the Danish project, etc. Or look up the patent for growing morels that Domino's (yes that Domino's)..had the rights to, and produced morels in the 80's before abandoning the business for a few reasons...universities and some other really smart people have attempted and grown morels ...but just making a slurry will not grow morels

      @leighdriver9265 straight up! You're an idiot sheep! spore blocks are not a SLURRY, are not to culture mycelium, are not to suddenly going to grow morels like magic in a flower pot on your front porch. You dont know how to do anything but a couple of simple Google searches and start thinking you know something that guess what....everyone else already knows. Your old news sucker. Two kinda people in this world...doer's and sayer'za. Guess which one you are....sayer. You know what you say" baa baa baa I'm a sheep that can't think for himself." This video is about SPORE BLOCKS, spore blocks are a slow release mechanism to saturate already morel producing ground with spore. Can you wrap that around your brain?

      Well ...let me retort ...you got taken ...you are too simple to admit that you have been duped and THERE IS STILL NO WAY TO GROW MORELS WITH THIS METHOD! FOAD... Stop trolling the world with this stupid shit

      Thank you so much. You're too kind. What you've seen me do is pure luck. As you know, it's all in Mother Nature's hands. Doesn't matter what you know if she doesn't let it rain where you need it.

      @@johnnyfish6051 I think any type of hunting is putting in the hours over years to know what you are doing but how you explain things will help people a lot.. makes more sense of my honey holes and why they produce.. rock on
