The correct question would be? If you're going to illegally mine on public land without a permit or reclamation bond, maybe you shouldn't post it on social media. They are so lucky it was BLM and not Forest service Land. Learn California mining laws.
Thank you Dan! I am learning so much from you and can’t wait to explore with my son and his Christmas present, a metal detector! We will re-watch alot of your videos during this holiday break!!!
In my buddies So Cal town they won't arrest a person selling meth while prosituting their kid. They hit the easy targets like unarmed Canadians moving quarter yard buckets of dirt around.
It was really cool to see your ultra-sonic cleaner. Don't think I've seen you do that before. Thank you for sharing your time with us Dan. Merry Christmas to you and yours, and I hope 2025 is a year of big gold
slap on the wrist for minor infractions? That's one of the reasons I hate cops, they always have to find something wrong in order to maintain their status of having authority over you.

After watching some videos on building moisture capture ditches on desert lands I wonder if "reclamation" in these dry arid landscapes is actually a bad idea. Some ditches may help moisture stick around in the dry season.
These few videos ya put out are awesome 👌 can't wait for the last one! But I miss when your in b.c. I love our land its pretty😋 ...but right now currently frozen.
Yeah, same thing happened to my youngest son, when some ash hole his store had fired, called the cops out of pure spite, just at closing time. Son was like Dan and Bryan, gave them absolutely no crap and they called the manager, who came flying back like a bat out of Hades to defend my boy like a PO'd mama bear! Anyway, Bryan's music is darn near romantic in it's tone and I hope it gets air play. Good stuff there.
Rats are everywhere, guess you need to fumigate, hope you continue to post videos because us old guys really appreciate watching because we can't get out anymore, I actually get "excited" watching anyone getting a beautiful nugget or really nice gold on quartz !! It's not about me me me anymore it's about the love of watching the unfolding discovery... good luck to everyone !!😊
That little piece of "iron" you found looked a little like a meteorite...... That stuff is worth several times what gold is per ounce "IF" thats what it is.
Merry Christmas Dan Something I haven't seen a lot of prospectors do and I wonder why it would be helpful especially in your case with the pieces that you're finding Add water to your container that you're holding your nuggets in This way while walking around that water will be softening up the dirt and washing off the nuggets
Hi Dan, love your videos, thinking of music related to gold digging. Do you know 'Farewell to the Gold' on an old album called 'Penguin Eggs' by an English folk singer called Nic Jones. Great song, worth a listen.
If you want to avoid using HCL acid, oxalic acid does a great job of destroying iron staining in quartz and it won't leave your specimen smelling like HCL...
Yes soap breaks surface tension, which mostly just helps at the surface, but it also helps bubles from sticking to the pieces. the biggest thing soap does is binds with oils and waxes to help carry them into the water, rather than sticking to the piece.
As I explained in the video, someone called the cops. Probably someone who saw us on social media and was upset they were not invited. They complained that we were doing more with the excavator than we were alowed to do. BLM came up and checked on what were were doing, Gave Bryan a slap on his wrist for doing a bit more than he was alowed to do. I decided not to film the actual encounter with the warden, though it was disrespectful to force a camera in their faces while the worked through things. But that explanation was all in the video.
How come no one uses a pin pointer to find where it is in the hole versus a plastic scoop? That stuff you are finding is plenty big enough for the pin pointer to easily pick up, and would be a lot faster then the scoop.
So curious about the different prices. Dust, pickers, nuggets and proper nuggets ralative to spot price. In my country it is illegall to look for or carry "raw" gold and we have plenty of it. Im south african. It would be very interesting to me if someone could give me an idea in US dollars. Thanks again Dan for sharing all your adventures.
@Danhurd thanks for that. Any quess on your part compared to spot price would really give me a way better idea compared to my knowledge. If you can be bothered, could you go by minimum purity and just rough estimates please, I'm just trying to get a rough idea. Your channel has inspired me to dream and that alone makes my life better. That and the dreams that come with adventure too. If I was to be a petty man I would be jealous. I have settled on admiration.
Ratting is highly distasteful, most times just ignorant, wasting time, resource and energy and everyone's health.....finding a nice hobby for those, would be more useful, like minding your own business. Thanks for sharing, looks like the detector is a win ;] Merry Christmas
This one has iron discrimination as well. but you will find with all of them that it is not 100% accurate. And also you need the double D coil to make it work at all. but the mono coil has a different signal profile that help in some situations.
Hey Mr. Hurd, maybe you could answer a question for me. I used to watch some of the gold mining shows on whatever channel they're on, and I always wondered....do these gold diggers have to file a remediation plan? Or do they just tear stuff up and leave? It looks like they cause absolute destruction of any area they work, so I hope they have to remediate any damage to the environment they caused.
I cannot help noticing that when you’re dragging a handful of dirt at a time you throw away the unscanned pile that n your hand because the dirt in the trowel screams a positive. I may be OCD, but what if there are two nuggets in the hand and trowel and you throw away an ounce nugget to save 1g? Sorry. Big fan and followed For years, but I cringe every time you do it!😅
It's a shame that people can't mind their own business so much so that they need to take the time to call the authorities on a couple of guys digging in the dirt. Whoever that was can count me out as a future friend or acquaintance. In fact, if I knew that person and seen them on the bus, I'd stick my foot out.
I posted a comment about the excavator on the first video. However, I didn’t call the BLM. Just was surprised that content got posted. Not a good idea to post that type of content and not surprising that you got a response from the BLM. Surprising and lucky that no arrest was made. Maybe not so surprising because at that point an arrest would have put a stop to the reclamation effort. Think twice about it before recording or posting that type of content in the future. Get in touch if you want to know what is wrong with the paperwork for the placer claim.

Something I haven't seen a lot of prospectors do and I wonder why it would be helpful especially in your case with the pieces that you're finding

why is that place not dug up and mined already ?
If you want to avoid using HCL acid, oxalic acid does a great job of destroying iron staining in quartz and it won't leave your specimen smelling like HCL...
Yes we have used that lots before, Just I'm out of it, and it is one you can't just buy at the hardware store. We use it for cleaning quartz crystals
Iron Out might worth trying, it's got neither HCl nor oxalic acid.
Beauties! Great work.
Dan, this whole California adventure of yours has been so amazing! Did you try the 24K detector? Thoughts?
Only for a very short time. Seemed just like the gold monster.
Why do you not use the Garrett Pro pointer? I saw one on someones belt in the previous video.
Not iron but a meteorite
Even without oils, soap is still helpful. It makes the water wetter... something something surface tension. Idk I don't remember exactly

We do use one when we think it is useful. I have one in my pocket this whole video. I think I pulled it out once.
05:00 for the ladies 😂
You NEED to use that song for your intro from now on. It's perfect, if he will let you that is.
Their probably go to be mining this area soon. Once they finish the survey.
Any chance those chunks of iron you're finding are meteorites?

I think it was we pushed outside what we technically were aloud to do with the excavator. But only a little bit. I tried not to get involved.

yeah vinegar is more of an overnight option.
That is why I got it real hot, hoping to speed up the reaction. the HCl was faster.

I was wondering if the detector was set up properly, because Orx for 700 Euro has way better resolution and special signal for iron.

The one's in BC have to have a reclamation plan, and follow it. I can't speak for Alaska or the Yukon.
Why do you turn everything into a competition? Answer - easy, having them in my family, you are a redhead it’s part of your nature😂
So, you can get more money out of a nugget in the quartz just like that, than if you processed the gold out of it??
Specimens are almost always worth more than the raw mineral is worth.
Crazy that jealous babies try to get you shutdown all the time. Hopefully that won’t stop you filming videos

So do you have to pay Garrett to keep the stuff since it was their claim? Or because you we’re demonstrating their equipment it was a “sponsored gift”
It is not Garretts claim, Bryan Leases this claim.
It's public land. They have a placer/surface mining claim. Which they illegally ripped up with a tractor, without a permit or reclamation bond.
