Haha. Nice. Honestly I don't find that runback too terrible. This was my first fromsoft game and after playing demons souls and coming back to this it's not a bad run at all. Lol
Convergence Developer here. I checked the game files for the Crucible Knight + Fallen Hawk Soldier interaction. This is deliberate. There is a special effect placed on those Fallen Hawk Soldiers, and also half of the Fallen Hawk Soldiers that are a bit further back. This effect causes them to get an increased 99% absorption from in this case the Crucible Knight. I have also compared it to similar instances like the battle between Misbegotten and Soldiers at Castle Morne, and the Pumpkin Head in the Courtyard with the Misbegotten, I could not find this logic applied there. It can of course still be said that both were handled by different teams, but the damage reduction was definitely there on purpose. They simply might not have thought about the application of the Bewitching Branch.
Out of curiosity, does this same 99% absorption value get applied to the Crucible Knight that fights beastmen near the Boltdrake Talisman +2 in Farum Azula? I'm wondering if the Crucible Knight was actually supposed to have the 99% absorption value against the Fallen Hawks instead, as it would line up with the Farum Azula enemy vs. enemy scenario.
@@nightscout9979 I just cheked, and it's indeed the same effect that the Cruicible Knight has. But I can tell you with certainty that the application of this effect on the Fallen Hawk Soldier is no accident.
@@LordExelot What indicates that the Fallen Hawks having this trait wasn't an accident? Also, do any other enemies in Nokron have such damage modifiers?
There's a rat that runs toward the hole that drops onto the path leading to Mohg. It hangs out next to the hole and will aggro if you go near it after it follows its path. It doesn't go anywhere near the other holes and there's no other rats in that section, so you just really need to find the rat rather than following it like the spectral squirrel.
I noticed the rat today!! When you open the way straight from the Grace and drop in the sewers from the pipe in the room with an omen and an imp, there’s a rat down there that leads you to the correct drop and even behind the big rat.

My guess is that they hardcoded a resistance on those enemies against the Crucible Knights to prevent the player from cheesing them by using the Crucible Knights. Like aggro the knights and then taking it to there so that it can use area attacks and wipe the enemies. But in the process they forgot about the bewitching branch or maybe it was introduced further in development when these enemies were already in place and never went back to check.
You guys know already that Miyazaki really likes Berserk. The scar eye thing, the prosthetic limbs etc comes from there. Miquella and those Fallen Hawk Knights having that special interaction probably is some sort of reference to Griffith/Band of Falcons. If you want to "cheese" the Mimic Tear, you could also unequip everything before you encounter it. That's how it will mimic and stay that way through the fight. Just be quick to re-equip everything.
Given that some npc quests involve the use of items in fromsoft games, I don't think its impossible that a grace mimic could eventually be used in an npc quest, especially if the npc in question doesn't know what grace looks like and couldn't tell the difference. Not that I think that its likely to happen, but lore-wise it could.
We also know that torrent has some type of unalloyed gold horse shoes (likely given by prior master Miquella). We know this because he takes no damage from walking over poison or rot. However, he will otherwise take damage from poison and rot applied to his body. He also takes damage when walking over fire/lava so it’s only poison/rot that his hooves are resistant to.
7:00 It is for this reason that I believe “the Prisoner” class was always the intended main protagonist of the setting; since the tarnished were all to be imprisoned hundreds of years ago, it would make sense the original plan of the game was to simply have them imprisoned rather than sealed away, and everyone start in prison clothes, where the left eye is covered with a false eye, and the other exposed. My headcannon is that within the enclosed side of the face your character carries the scar seals/sore seals as their actual eye as some form of mark of punishment, albeit also amplifying your powers depending on which one you have. It also allows a lot of role play in how you approach their motivations: What crime did they commit, and why did they do it? My character, for example, was the catalyst to stealing the rune of death from Malkeith; then he was scapegoated by the demigods while their plans moved forward, thus the prisoner’s motive now is to literally kill them and return death to the Elden Ring.
they weren't imprisoned or sealed away, they just got told to leave for a while _My Lord, and thy warriors. I divest each of thee of thy grace. With thine eyes dimmed, ye will be driven from the Lands Between. Ye will wage war in a land afar, where ye will live, and die._
My theory about the left eye symbolism is that it allows them to be in the shadow realm (asleep) and the lands between at the same time. Since most of the characters with that mark are spectral it makes sense that they could maybe warp back and forth.
I use the Grace mimic to mess with ppl. Ppl won’t walk up to the grace and try to sit at it for sure but.. nearly everyone will come and investigate when they see what looks like a grace somewhere they don’t remember there being one. So the best way I found to use grace mimic for luring ppl is to put it somewhere visible from the main path that will lure them away from their plan and into a choke point, and it has to be far enough past the choke point where by the time they realize what’s going on it’s too late, there trapped. Things that will help are if u put it somewhere dark, that will help it stick out visually. You also have to understand different ppl want different things so you have to keep in mind the context of your situation. For example, using this trick when your being invaded has limited use because they can see where you are at all times so, the only time you can mess with an invader is if your co op friends are in on it you can make it seem like your sitting at a grace with the emote and mimic, but at that point you might as well do it at a real grace to realy make it look convincing. The best way to use this trick would be in an invasion. If done right, with a little slight of hand you can put a grace mimic in some tricky spots that make ppl exploring their world get curious and HAVE to go investigate. The only issue with this whole strategy, it relies on the whole community not knowing about grace mimics or seeing them very often.
The grace mimic probably changes your encounter rate for a type of enemy somewhere, most likely a special version that has a rare item drop- read the last line of the description.
I was thinking that the grace mimic would actually be useful in the new dlc since I wouldn’t know where to go initially. Maybe the direction is only random because it’s sending you to different locations like caves, catacombs, evergaols , and main bosses.
11:12 No that’s just simply a thing this enemy does. In Caelid and especially in one of the mini dungeons, this enemy explodes into flames just like the blood versions. It’s very unlikely Miquella’s soldiers.
Ive posted a video on tiktok of a clip that i have done like 1.5 years ago of 1shotting the mimic tear before it transforms with the jar cannon. It was very exciting to be able to discover that but it didnt get any attention.
Some may speculate that the real purpose of the Grace Mimic item is in its lore consequences. Similar to how Marika is "no where to be found", and how Melina was "born of her Mother in the Erdtree; [a lost purpose]", this item may be speaking about the origin of Marika, who is both the Golden Order's light of grace, but is also a Numen of the Nameless Eternal City, which might make her a mimic. She's also known for mimicry with her other item, Marika's Mischief. If Radagon is the Sun (Fire Giant, The Heliocentric Golden Order, the former King upon the Seat of the Sun, etc.), then Marika might be one of the Leaders of the Numen/Nox; one of the Nightmaidens of the Darkmoon.
I know that pirates used eyepatches so that when they were actively pillaging a ship and went below deck, they could lift their eyepatch and their eye would already be adjusted to the darkness. This gave them an advantage in battle. The characters with one eye closed could mean that they have one foot in this world, and the other in another, like the spirit world. Perhaps we'll see these characters with their right eyes closed and left eyes open in the.. dun dun dun Shadow Realm
I've seen the mimic tear one-shotted by some speedruners and Bingo Brawlers players with a magic pot and some buffs. With the discovery that it can also be done with lightning, I wonder if there are other consumables that can pull it off, and also if the Stray Mimic Tear can also be one shot in similar fashion.
The mimic would really only waste 1 sec for the host, but consider you can lure him to a certain point So you can set some neat ambush, and you can guarantee the exact point in space the host would stand in. Also, for hosts that don't know this item, and are unfamiliar with this game's grace locations, it could fool them for more than a second. They could be spending 10 seconds just manacing over it, thinking there's some sort of bug I think it's a neat little item :)
The Grace Mimic is perfect to troll your newbie friend who is in his first play through!!! I did this with all my friends who started to play Elden Ring! Works everytime! Also is nice to sit around it with friends!
I’ve been absolutely locked in at work and it really does help kill time. If you have the ability to work through these days, you’ll be playing the DLC in no time.
1. No one will ever use the scripted event rather than just rushing in with Torrent and grabbing whatever loot you want. 2. Interesting find. I love inspirations like these. 3. Seems like a bug. 4. I've seen Aurora Borealis in real life many times and it most definitely would be a fitting choice for the region. 5. The One Eye represents the all-knowing in many cultures. Maybe that's what they're going for? 6. The Grace Mimic is great for low level invasions and baiting new players into a false sense of security. 7. A bit of a stretch. I'm leaning towards reused game assets. 8. Didn't know about the Mimic Tear insta-kill, because I generally just unequip all my gear and equip The Daedicar's Woe. The fight is generally very easy, but nice find.
Other corpses blow themselves up in a fiery way in vastly unrelated places, like out open in Caelid, the Gaol Cave, and Leyndell Catacombs and whatnot - the animation is not specific to the blood ones at the Mohgwyn joint.
Grace mimics are good if you're invading level 10 or below where you've got brand new players who have no idea where The Graces are. You could take a mimic Veil and sit right near a Grace and then Ambush them when they try to activate it. I saw a guy doing this like 2 years ago when everybody was new at the game.
gonna pre order the dlc this friday, this is probably the game that made most excited for something in my entire life, i hope the dlc lives up to the hype
The left eye thing reminds me alot of Egyptian mythology with the wedjat/udjat symbol or left eye of Horus the symbol on these characters has some similar structure. Its commonly considered as a magical protective symbol. Maybe it has some significance of tying a spirit to a vessel or maintaining form maybe protecting them from transitions of death.
There's also the exploding enemies in Caelid with the same animation, but i don't feel those have any connection to Miquella though. So it feels kind of like a stretch.
3 Grace Mimic theories: 1.Maybe the Grace Mimic was used to stray the path of other would be tarnished Elden Lord candidates to further completion for the one who received them by placing it. 2. Perhaps the Grace Mimic was used to provide "grace" to those who had lost it as a way to give failures a false sense of being by tricking themselves into a false comfort. 3. If Marika's Mischief was created by the goddess herself, I feel like it makes sense for her to create similar deceptive items in order to lead unworthy tarnished to become Elden Lord and become her consort. After all, only the mightiest find themselves making it to the end.
This crucible knight cheese happens on farum azula, where there is one fighting those rats/dogs dudes from farum, they deal one damage too but took way more from the crucible
Regarding bewitching branch and crucible knights. Its a bug (99%). There are multiple places in game where mobs fight each other, and their dmg is intentionally reduced (vs each other). Some script broke for this case it seems. Regarding exploding soldiers and walking corpses there bunch of them in Cealid, Caleam ruins in and they explode with fire.
Are we certain the bewitching branch is what causes that? It might be interesting to see if AoE attacks of the Crucible Knight do almost no damage without the branch. Like maybe FromSoft gave them natural immunity to the knights so they won't clear out the mobs by accident
There are self-exploding putrid corpses in Caelid too, albeit fire ones, that have no relation to Miquella whatsoever. I don't think the blood ones are related to Miquella either
There is one other location with self exploding people running towards you. I can’t remember the name but it’s the dungeon where everything is locked until you pull the lever
The evergol to get to the haligtree has a cool feature. Using a sentry’s torch at the grace reveals a black knife assassin ghost on the steps. Hinting to use the sentry’s torch. I thought this was helpful feature. I wonder if people have seen this
You know what would be really cool? If different factions within the game got assigned individual developer teams that compete with each other in seasons to give their faction victory within the game world.

Tried using the Grace mimicks in the DLC to maybe find caves or secrets, before reminding myself "oh yeah, they're random"
Guys something I noticed was shribri voice sounds like the voice from the intro???? Is there a connection. Every the chaos thing
The mimic would really only waste 1 sec for the host, but consider you can lure him to a certain point
So you can set some neat ambush, and you can guarantee the exact point in space the host would stand in.
Also, for hosts that don't know this item, and are unfamiliar with this game's grace locations, it could fool them for more than a second. They could be spending 10 seconds just manacing over it, thinking there's some sort of bug
I think it's a neat little item :)
The Grace Mimic is perfect to troll your newbie friend who is in his first play through!!! I did this with all my friends who started to play Elden Ring! Works everytime! Also is nice to sit around it with friends!
"The final week and a half gonna be the slowest of all" bro spoke facts right off the bat
I’ve been absolutely locked in at work and it really does help kill time. If you have the ability to work through these days, you’ll be playing the DLC in no time.
Just finished an all bosses run with dlc in mind- totally forgot that area with the wormfaces in CFA existed
The point of a grace mimic is told to you in the item description. It points in a random direction when you can't decide where to go.
Loving the game so far, only level 61 and only have beaten Margit and Godrick and my god that Godric fight was so epic, he is so damn cool.
2:41 that bug is chilling
There was a squirrel in limgrave that led me to one of the early dungeons on my first playthrough.
I guess the Grace Mimic is like throwing a coin to decide where to go, not exactly "useful", but I guess you can use it to make decisions idk
Went in thinking I knew everything, got humbled by the squirrel.
Ok, the squirrel was something I knew nothing about, crazy all the small details, I love it!
The squirrel one is ridiculous lol, I would’ve never known that wow
That 1 about the squirrel is just nuts!
There are some skeletons at the windmill area in Altus Plateau that chase you and explode as well.
Other corpses blow themselves up in a fiery way in vastly unrelated places, like out open in Caelid, the Gaol Cave, and Leyndell Catacombs and whatnot - the animation is not specific to the blood ones at the Mohgwyn joint.
0:18 my field looks dope.
holy crap guys it’s StTrina official guys
Grace mimics are good if you're invading level 10 or below where you've got brand new players who have no idea where The Graces are. You could take a mimic Veil and sit right near a Grace and then Ambush them when they try to activate it. I saw a guy doing this like 2 years ago when everybody was new at the game.
gonna pre order the dlc this friday, this is probably the game that made most excited for something in my entire life, i hope the dlc lives up to the hype
Also the exploding enemies in mohgwyn are the same as the ones on fire in caelid and outside the windmill village
The left eye thing reminds me alot of Egyptian mythology with the wedjat/udjat symbol or left eye of Horus the symbol on these characters has some similar structure. Its commonly considered as a magical protective symbol. Maybe it has some significance of tying a spirit to a vessel or maintaining form maybe protecting them from transitions of death.
ah phendrana drifts OST used when on the snow mountains. how i miss playing metroid prime for the first time
There's also the exploding enemies in Caelid with the same animation, but i don't feel those have any connection to Miquella though.
"it's very clear that this poem by edward gorey had a hand in forging this story." ZIO GOT BARS
It is in limgrave. They lead you towards the first catacombs. The one were you fight the first watch spirit dog
There are self-exploding putrid corpses in Caelid too, albeit fire ones, that have no relation to Miquella whatsoever. I don't think the blood ones are related to Miquella either
11:20 I recently did it with the cannon of Haima spell lol
Maybe the left eye missing is linked with Odin sacrificing his eye so he can learn the magic runes in Norse mythology
Grace mimic has a great usecase in the Seamless Multiplayer mod.
Trolling friends is hilarious
I think the other animal in the game that shows you the way to go is the rat in the shunning ground once you drop into the pipes
I wonder if people have seen this
Well best use I can think for the mimic is to leave a marker for new players, it is visible from most angles and pretty far away so
The is a screen shot of the shadow tree with the sap coming down. Its the same shape as the mark on rannie and Melinas eye
You know what would be really cool?
If different factions within the game got assigned individual developer teams that compete with each other in seasons to give their faction victory within the game world.
I usually just take off my gear for the Mimic Tear fights, but I have never seen the lightning pot strat before
