    Given how the Godskins also have Draconic and serpentine features, and are heavily marked by the Crucible, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Gloam Eyed Queen was the previous God before Marika, with both her and her own Demigod children being killed by Marika and Maliketh before Marika became a God at the Gate of Divinity.
    Marika could be reaching for the Rune of Life or the Elden Ring itself in the story trailer, and may have achieved Divine Invocation with the Elden Beast when she stood at the Gate of Divinity.
    Not to mention how with Placidusax’s god fleeing, it would explain why the Hornsent were so obsessed with creating Saints/Vessels for Divinity, and it would explain why the Godskins have draconic features, and animal features if they were around during that early era.
    Not to mention how the only mandatory Godskin fight in the game only occurs in Farum Azula which has explicit ties to Placidusax and the ancient Dragons. And in Farum Azula there is so much iconography of the Twinbird, and we know that Ghostflame was used heavily in the Land of Shadow.
    Her being silenced and scrubbed from history falls in line with Marika’s ascension and tactics, and Marika killing her and her children would explain why Maliketh is known as ‘Death of the Demigods’ even though we never see him kill any of Marika’s children.
    Sure, there are theories about Melina being the GEQ, but with Messmer’s kindling and how both he and Malenia became vessels for forces like the Abyssal Serpent and the Scarlet Rot, I can see Melina being born as a vessel for the GEQ’s power after she died. Plus, while Rot as a force did exist prior to Marika’s ascension, Romina’s lore states that she potentially created the Scarlet Rot we know of today, which is what Malenia is the vessel for, and she was born way later in the timeline, so Melina being born as a Vessel of Death after the GEQ’s death still makes some sense.
    Plus, it’s implied that Destined Death was still a part of the Elden Ring during Marika and Godfrey’s reign, and was only removed during Radagon’s era, as the Golden Order is tied more with him than Godfrey, and plus, the Erdtree only became eternal and immutable when Destined Death was removed, cause otherwise if it was removed way earlier, it wouldn’t make sense as to why the Erdtree would sprout Golden Seeds or Minor Erdtrees, or how it was able to be burned prior to the end of the game.
    Plus, with Marika’s spoken echoes talking about using scholarship to understand the Golden Order, it explains why Radagon married Rennala, and why Golden Order Fundamentalism spells also reauire Intelligence.
    And Radagon is literally referred to as ‘Leal Hound of the Golden Order’ and Radagon ‘of the Golden Order’. Godfrey has no real connections to the Golden Order that we know of.

    • @nightscout9979
      @nightscout9979 29 днів тому +19

      The GEQ is only ever called an Empyrean, and if Marika was trying to erase her from history, it wouldn't make sense to leave any notion that the GEQ had the potential for godhood. The Godskinners don't seem to be actively wiped from history either, just defeated and reduced to being very few and far between. The Godskinners in Farum Azula might have also traveled there to kill Maliketh and retrieve their queen's rune.
      Maliketh is feared as being able to strike down the demi-gods with greater ease than most other foes, especially since he historically defeated an Empyrean, someone who could have become a god, and as a Shadow is supposed to keep Marika in line, even though she has neutralized his effectiveness. As for Romina, while she helped manifest the Scarlet Rot in the Land of Shadow, the Lake of Rot seems to suggest that the outer god of Scarlet Rot appeared much earlier than that and might have ruined the Uhl and Uld civilizations.
      It's not really implied that the Rune of Death was in the Elden Ring during Godfrey's reign. The GEQ seemingly had the rune before Maliketh defeated her, hence why the rune was only sealed as a result of her defeat per the Godskin Apostle Hood, and Marika probably assembled the Elden Ring afterward. Also, since Godfrey and Marika are considered to be the origin of the golden lineage, it would make sense for their government to already be named the Golden Order at the time.

    • @redhand8836
      @redhand8836 29 днів тому +16

      Correction on Romina:
      She didn't create, invent, or originate Scarlet Rot. She discovered a method of use. By weaving the rot gods influence with whatever else, she was able to, as a mortal, use its power. The rot Malenia has and the Rot the sealed god in the lake has are the same, The rot that Romina uses is the same as well, but "usable." It's like the difference between crude oil and gasoline. Romina didn't "create the scarlet rot we know today." but she's definitely where most of the incantations relating to rot that we can use came from.

    • @mayhemivory5730
      @mayhemivory5730 28 днів тому +3

      It‘s pretty heavily implied that Romina inherited the Scarlet Rot only after Malenia discarded it.
      The butterflies used to be the wings of her Goddess of Rot form. The Kindred became lost without a mother, and found a new one in Romina.
      That is a rather recent event.

      Regarding the first burning of the Erdtree (and the scattering of its seeds), that was likely the event that instigated the war with the Fire Giants, marking the end of the Age of Plenty. And as you may remember, that's also when the Erdtree became an "object of faith", ie a projection that only those with grace could see.

    My personal headcanon is that Melina was the Gloam Eyed Queen, sister of Messmer and daughter of Marika, that aided her in the slaughter of the Old Gods like Messmer aided in the purge of the hornsent. Then she had her killed by Messmer because of her vision of fire, maybe beliving her to be a future threat to the Order of Gold she was going to create. She was then burned alive. When Marika shatters the Elden Ring, she awakens, burned and bodyless, and goes in search of the Tarnished to fullfill her destiny, which Marika in time came to accept as well, as it now aligned with her own intrests. I know there is probably a ton of inconsistencies in my theory but it sounded cool in my head.

    For the Godslayer GS and the spiral. The spiral evokes divinity, it’s the same reason Miquella’s Haligtree crest has the helix trunk, it’s to act as a symbol of ascendancy.
    The GEQ (who I think was Melina from the get go, but don’t let that distract you from the theory) understood the significance of the spiral to an empyrean, to the process of actualizing the role of Godhood, and so fashioned her weapon after it.

    My only possible assumption/any kind of guess as the why Radahn just leaves the mortal plain when you roll up with two friends is that perhaps the game is registering that you have killed a boss (Leda and her allies) and is attempting to kick the summons out as it does at the end of every other boss, but because Leda and her allies are an unorthodox not really a boss spanning across both your world and an "invasion" world, uses NPC data from across the DLC and your allies can remain summoned after it the fight can't really do that/the code gets fucky, but as you HAVE just beaten a boss it still tries unsure of what to do until you get close enough to an eligible boss, In this case Radahn, the game maybe then pass the parcel's that code onto him, but because the game has registered a dead boss and Radahn is still alive its not unsure of what to do so just...kills him, thus forcing your two boss completed summons out of the world finally.
    Could be NPC tomfuckery too perhaps, since if you do every bit of the fight right you get two NPC's to summon, so summoning your two PLAYERS instead then dragging them through to Radahn fucks with the summon parameters or something I'm just throwing my theory out there.

    Best explanation for Grandam is that she was an advisor/mentor to Empyreans. She was an elder who guided candidates through the religious rites leading up to the ritual at the Gate, and Marika was her last or only charge. This neatly explains her seemingly personal hatred and the choice of the word Empyrean. The Hornsent clearly sent Marika to the Gate because they were convinced she would act on their behalf as their connection to divinity (the seduction), but she had fundamentally different plans (the betrayal)

      @deadshields8561 29 днів тому +6

      I got the same idea. If Shamans are used in such ways to invoke divinity it could be seen that they were already conjoined to Godhood or predisposed to it, thus why they were used as catalysts to sainthood in the jars and possibly infused into the architecture of Enir Ilim as the bodies seen in the trees, the lowest points beneath the castle and, of course, the Gate of Divinity itself.
      There's further credence to this through the Celebrants too. The Festive Grease shows us that whatever tradition it is that they follow has existed since before Marika's rule with its presence in the Land of Shadow hinting at this tradition having existed there too, thus potentially placing the Godskins alongside them.

    • @calebadamu

      Pretty sure the god skins are born from the serpent amnion, while the hornsent originate from the crucible.

    • @connorrowe8787
      @connorrowe8787 28 днів тому

      Well we know that the godskins serve under the gloam eyed queen whos all but confirmed to be melina. This would imply she herself has some deeper connection to the hornsent, which would give an interesting parallel with messmer on his endless hunt. But then why would they hunt the shamans, considering melina is at least part shaman? Maybe its similar to the omen curse, but more like a blessing considering the regality of the godskins compared to how omens are shunned and brutish in comparison. Maybe the omen curse is an intensified form of the malice the hornsent had for marika before the war, shifting from something that while othering still could offer some benefits into something more crude and seemingly painful for the inflicted. Tons of interesting questions this brings up

    My theory (which I'm sure I'm not the first) is that the gloam eyed queen is a snake (this is why the godskin apostles have snake like features). In the DLC trailer we see Marika reaching into what I think looks like an eye of an all white snake and pulling out the golden strands.
    I don't think the Gloam eyed queen was helping Marika during the hunt, I think she was murdered as part of the hunt and her rune taken and used at the divinity gate. I think this is why in thr trailer the left side of the scene at the gate is gloam but where Marika is holding up the strands it is becoming golden. It's literally Marika ushering in the golden age of the Erdtree using the crucible, the gloam eyed queen, and all those corpses as the basis.

The other weapons that have this in their moveset are the beast claws, smithscript dagger, claws of night, and perfumes, but I personally think this is something that should be expanded on more in the future. Being able to feint and cancel out of some attacks would open up a ton of complexity and skill expression in PvP.

    I’m not sure if they did or did not like each other but what if they did indeed work together, and Melina is the gloam eyed queen working with marika to get you to become Elden lord. Hence why she has a “seal” on her eye as almost to say something else is locked in her eye. My personal theory is Melina is the Gloam eye, and can’t remember due to being sealed at the erdtree to hide as a finger maiden and guide us. It would explain the crazy transformation at the end of frenzied flame ending and her losing the color of her left eye as “Melina” has died and the queen has returned. Please add on/disprove these claimed I’d really love to debate.
    Also as an alternative, marika could’ve sealed her by force, and this could also explain the gaps in memories. The memories part and the goal is what really bothers me. If anyone has better ideas about this lmk I wanna know the answers😂

    With the last bit about the Godslayer Greatsword, i think if anything it points to the gloam eyed queen having been alive and active during the period of time before the Land of Shadow was hidden away. Because of the spiral motif having been the intrinsic religious belief in the lands between before the elden beast came. I would not be surprised if she had been an ally to Marika, only to have been killed off whenever she wasnt of use to Marika.
    Theres also the fact that the gloam eyed queen is an Empyrian. Which means she would have been chosen alongside Marika as a candidate to carry the Elden Ring as a "god". This brings me to that killing her was part of Marika's end goal of becoming the god queen.
    Not to mention, the thing that marika reaches into in the trailer, to pull out that rune, looks like stitched godskin. That being said as far as we know she was only killed eventually when Marika decided to remove the concept of death and gain control of it. But maybe that happened exactly in this moment, when she officially becomes the god queen, and plants the Erdtree

The spiral on it goes outward towards the top showing an unraveling which we don't see anywhere else to my knowledge. It gives a "connection error" after the fade out back to the arena with the bodies in it. It sounds like the glitch comes from the game not processing the flags correctly and auto killing the nearest boss/next boss the moment they load in because its trying to send home your cooperators. Take this guess with a massive grain of salt cause idk much about the system they use for coop but it makes sense to me this way.
